  1. Storeroom that caught fire at People
  2. It sounds as if Porsche may be dangerously close to crafting a solid business case to build the fast and frugal 918 Spyder. After stealing the show in Geneva, it was revealed that the German automaker was seriously interested in bringing the hybrid supercar concept to market, if only it were able to find enough applicants willing to plunk down their hard-earned cash. According to Bloomberg, Porsche has recorded nearly 900 potential buyers for the 918 Spyder. Wolfgang Duerheimer, development chief for Porsche, said in an interview, "I'm confident that we will soon reach the threshold of 1,000," he said in an April 24 interview. "We need 1,000 seriously interested people to make a sound business case." Don't doubt that Porsche will put such a low-volume halo car into production, either. Nearly a decade ago, the automaker employed a similar tactic with its Carrera GT, which began life as a racing car prototype but was eventually offered for public sale after sufficient interest was generated. We've said it before and we'll say it again
  3. >> ASIAONE / NEWS / ASIAONE NEWS / SINGAPORE / STORY Karen Lim Wed, Apr 21, 2010 AsiaOne Hundreds evacuated in huge fire at People's Park Complex Fire at People's Park Complex Click on thumbnail to view Photos: Stomp A FIRE broke out at People's Park Complex along Eu Tong Sen Street at about 4pm today, an eyewitness told AsiaOne. The building remains closed tonight and it is not known if it will reopen tomorrow. According to a woman who works at one of the travel agencies in the complex, she was told that the fire started at a storeroom next to Canto Kitchen, a restaurant located on the fifth floor. She has declined to be named. She also told AsiaOne that black smoke was first detected by her colleagues at around 4pm but they did not start evacuating till about 25 minutes later, as the fire alarm did not go off. "My colleagues told me to grab my bag and leave although there was no alarm. "It only started ringing when we were already making our way to the ground floor," said the woman who is in her mid-fifties. Some cars are believed to be damaged by the fire as the carpark is also located on the fifth floor. Police have cordoned off all areas and are not allowing drivers to enter the carpark to collect their cars. A reader told citizen journalism website, Stomp, that "the fire is huge".
  4. Had a chat with someone. He mentioned that if someone can remain single into middle aged, he / she must have some character issues. Maybe they are too snobbish, standard too high, anti-social or just plain insufferable. Do you agree with this comment? Extrapolating further, does marriage indicate someone is normal and functional within the context of society?
  5. If gahment so keen to limit the number of cars on the road, why not BALLOT? For comments please.
  6. Everyone knows Civic FD is extremely overpriced, talk about value for money Avante or Frote at same category, talk about power and luxurious, same price can get Conti car but on our road Civic FDs become more and more, it's the trend to take over altis to rank the most popular car in Singapore

Sometimes I managed to get them on their extension and the party will hush hush want to end the converstaton... every reply is like ..we see...not free... will check ...these kind. have you encounter ppl like this in your company? How you all handle ?
  8. The world's new richest man, Mexican Carlos Slim, and a fresh crop of billionaires in Asia helped lead a comeback for the wealthiest few on the planet in 2010, according to Forbes magazine. The publication's annual rich list reflected a resurgence of wealth after the financial turmoil of 2009, with the top 10 wealthiest worth a combined 342 billion dollars, compared to 254 billion dollars in the previous year. "The global economy is recovering. The financial markets came back, especially emerging markets," said magazine editor-in-chief Steve Forbes. "There's a 50 percent increase in general global wealth compared to last year," Forbes said. Certainly the economy recovered for the super rich, who took a beating during last year's stock and commodity market collapses, but saw across-the-board gains this year. Forbes counted 1,011 billionaires from 55 countries, up from 793 last year, though still shy of the pre-crisis 1,125 listed in 2008. Slim, 70, took the top spot for the first time, pushing Microsoft founder Bill Gates out as he rose from third place on the success of America Movil, Latin America's biggest mobile phone operator. This was the first time since 1994 that a non-US citizen took the spot. Despite Gates, 54, slipping to second place, the United States remained by far the dominant home of the super-rich, with 403 billionaires, or 40 percent of the world's ten-figure fortunes, down from 45 percent. That includes number three Warren Buffett, who at 79 is considered one of the most reliable and successful Wall Street investors, and Oracle's Lawrence Ellison, 65, who completed a 7.4-billion-dollar buyout of Sun Microsystems in January. The list includes 97 fresh billionaires, 62 of them charging out of Asia, a region that saw booming stock markets and several large public offerings in the past year. Mainland China was for the first time the country with the most billionaires after the United States with 64, including 27 newly minted ones. Including Hong Kong, the Chinese account for 89 billionaires. Russia comes in third with 62 billionaires, many of them commodities kings who fell off the list last year, only to see their vast natural resource holdings regain value this year. Europe is still the number two super-wealthy region, with 248 billionaires. The richest European is France's Bernard Arnault, 61, whose LVMH sells Louis Vuitton, Moet & Chandon, and other luxury goods, with his net worth at 27.5 billion dollars. Just behind Arnault is Spain's Amancio Ortega, owner of the Zara clothing chain, with 25 billion dollars. Asia trails Europe by only 14 billionaires and the region's net worth of 729 billion dollars is double what it was a year ago. The region's richest man, oil-and-gas tycoon Mukesh Ambani, 52, climbed to four from seven on the list with a net worth of 29 billion dollars, up 9.5 billion. Pakistan has its first person on the list, Mian Muhammad Mansha, at number 937 with an even one billion dollars. Sorted by city, billionaires congregate first in New York, where there are 60, then Moscow at 50, and London at 32. Here's the list (Figures are in US dollars): 1. Carlos Slim Helu and family. Mexico. Telecoms. 53.5 billion dollars. 2. Bill Gates. US. Microsoft. 53 billion dollars. 3. Warren Buffett. US. Berkshire Hathaway. 47 billion dollars. 4. Mukesh Ambani. India. Oil, gas. 29 billion dollars. 5. Lakshmi Mittal. India. Steel. 28.7 billion dollars. 6. Lawrence Ellison. US. Oracle. 28 billion dollars. 7. Bernard Arnault. France. 9. Top 20: 'Accidental' humour The following collection of rather humorous accident claims in England isn't new - it came from a website and has probably been circulating about for a while now. But since the topic is automotive based, it's worth a share and hopefully, a laugh. 20. "I started to slow down but the traffic was more stationary than I thought." 19. "I pulled into a lay-by with smoke coming from under the bonnet. I realised the car was on fire so took my dog and smothered it with a blanket." 18. Q: Could either driver have done anything to avoid the accident? A: Travelled by bus? 17. A Norwich Union customer collided with a cow. The questions and answers on the claim form were: Q - What warning was given by you? A - Horn Q - What warning was given by the other party? A - Moo 16. 11. Ok, I don't see any interesting topics today, so thought of this topic to fire up your engine. Shallow as in, they don't know you well, spread stories about you to other people who don't know you, and rope these people in as well to join forces to gossip and verbally abuse you behind your back. And all along some of these same people act friendly or keep quiet, and don't dare to verbally abuse you face to face when they see you. Further to add, majority of these people are older than you. The best part, they seem to think you don't know! Personally, I think they are cowards, losers, childish, despicable and useless. And yes, I'm quite sure a few of you have experienced this kind of people before. What/how do you do/deal with people like them? What do you think of them? Let's discuss.
  12. Celebrating the mediocre http://www.divaasia.com/article/6572 hard to believe all of us have a lower chance of being mentioned on CNN than this lady....
  13. Just now was on my way to attend a class and came to the road near the KK Hospital where i came from sim lim square. I was at the extreme left lane and suddenly this sky blue car turn out from the filter lane! the car beside her didn't even move out and this aunty just came out like nobody's business and when she made her car straight, she didn't pick up fast and even let the car go slowly in front of me! i was at my normal speed ard 60km/hr n her car was 20km/hr and i got to brake hard behind her. then i drove to the next lane and she still showed her hand. then never mind, one of her stupid passengers even took out his hp to take photos. my god, it is as if im in the wrong... i'm so angry and i took down the number plate, don't know right anot cos i dont have helper in my car. i was driving smoothly on the lane and she just suddenly cut out so slowly like she owns the road. how come such people is so thick skinned enough to blame on other people??? if the aunty dont know how to drive can she just park her car at home so not to create accidents? many accidents occurs coz of this move by those drivers who are not attentive enough and inconsiderate. if dont pick up fast, then wait till coast clear then turn out la. so drivers on the road, beware of this sky blue car driven by an aunty, road hogger. her car plate no. is SxJ 195x. Bless her.

  18. Read on and enjoy yourself................ I quote.......... MEN ARE JUST HAPPIER PEOPLE NICKNAMES If Laura, Kate and Sarah go out for lunch, they will call each other Laura, Kate and Sarah. If Mike, Dave and John go out, they will affectionately refer to each other as Fat Boy, Godzilla and Four-eyes. EATING OUT When the bill arrives, Mike, Dave and John will each throw in $20, even though it's only for $32.50. None of them will have anything smaller and none will actually admit they want change back. When the girls get their bill, out come the pocket calculators. MONEY A man will pay $2 for a $1 item he needs. A woman will pay $1 for a $2 item that she doesn't need but it's on sale. BATHROOMS A man has six items in his bathroom: toothbrush and toothpaste, shaving cream, razor, a bar of soap, and a towel. The average number of items in the typical woman's bathroom is 337. A man would not be able to identify more than 20 of these items. ARGUMENTS A woman has the last word in any argument. Anything a man says after that is the beginning of a new argument. FUTURE A woman worries about the future until she gets a husband. A man never worries about the future until he gets a wife. SUCCESS A successful man is one who makes more money than his wife can spend. A successful woman is one who can find such a man. MARRIAGE A woman marries a man expecting he will change, but he doesn't. A man marries a woman expecting that she won't change, but she does. DRESSING UP A woman will dress up to go shopping, water the plants, empty the trash, answer the phone, read a book, and get the mail. A man will dress up for weddings and funerals. [and sometimes then only under duress] NATURAL Men wake up as good-looking as they went to bed. Women somehow deteriorated during the night. OFFSPRING Ah, children! A woman knows all about her children. She knows about dentist appointments and romances, best friends, favourite foods, secret fears, hopes and dreams. A man is vaguely aware of some short people living in the house. THOUGHT FOR THE DAY A married man should forget his mistakes. There's no use in two people remembering the same thing! HAVE A NICE WEEKENDS.................
  19. So much so that i cant even see the front clearly due to their high beam glaring in my eyes reflected by my mirrors. Damn irritating.
  20. Many people can't get new HDB flats. Many of my friends queued and always get >1000 queue numbers. They applied many times for those first times also can't get. The old queue system was still the best. People can plan 2-3 years to get married when flat comes. I remembered HDB had many 5 rooms vacant and we tried to ask to upgrade from 4 to the new 5 rooms, but they were not for sale???? Next, they came out with the plan BTO and made thousands of those who want to get married unable to get flats. Leaving them with no choice but to get resale flats. Now resale flats at its peak price, with owners asking >10k above valuation....... It is not the younger generations do not want get married, it is affordability to get married and have a roof above them. If all buy resale flats, the what's the difference between citizen & PR?
  21. Had lunch around Amoy road sometime this week and was sitting near 3 girls also having lunch. One of them is a quite rotund, unpleasant looking loudmouth NTU accountancy grad (probably 21-22yrs old) she was bitching very loudly about how lame her senior in the company is. That he has worked 10 yrs and is still so lowly paid. Cursing him and degrading the fella in public. In a loud bitchy haolian tone, she also declared that ACCA is no big deal and that she was a grad and only need to pass 4 papers to get it. the other 2 girls were clearly lower educated as they sort of hung their heads quietly as this bitch spoke. Felt like bursting out laughing but kept my composure so i wont waste my curry rice. Then she carried on emphasizing that she is a "fu*cking" grad and implied that she can earn lots very quickly and climb to the top etc etc... the usual crapsh*it lah as you guys know..... Is our younger generation really headed towards such a path? Maybe i'm getting old. anyway, gonna have a Bolivar Royal Corona now.
  22. Do you guys know of any grouping of autistic people or are autistic yourself? I am, and would like to get to know similar people. I've never known anyone who's autistic.
  23. Forwarded by a friend.... Every company faces the problem of people leaving the company for better pay or profile. WHY? Early this year, Mark, a senior software designer, got an offer from a prestigious international firm to work in its India operations developing specialized software. He was thrilled by the offer. He had heard a lot about the CEO. The salary was great. The company had all the right systems in place employee-friendly human resources (HR) policies, a spanking new office, and the very best technology, even a canteen that served superb food. Twice Mark was sent abroad for training. "My learning curve is the sharpest it's ever been," he said soon after he joined. Last week, less than eight months after he joined, Mark walked out of the job. Why did this talented employee leave? Mark quit for the same reason that drives many good people away. The answer lies in one of the largest studies undertaken by the Gallup Organization. The study surveyed over a million employees and 80,000 managers and was published in a book called " First Break All the Rules". It came up with this surprising finding: If you're losing good people, look to their immediate boss . Immediate boss is the reason people stay and thrive in an organization. And he's the reason why people leave. When people leave they take knowledge, experience and contacts with them, straight to the competition. "People leave managers not companies ," write the authors Marcus Buckingham and Curt Coffman. Mostly manager drives people away? HR experts say that of all the abuses, employees find humiliation the most intolerable. The first time, an employee may not leave, but a thought has been planted. The second time that thought gets strengthened. The third time, he looks for another job. When people cannot retort openly in anger, they do so by passive aggression. By digging their heels in and slowing down. By doing only what they are told to do and no more. By omitting to give the boss crucial information. Dev says: "If you work for a jerk, you basically want to get him into trouble. You don't have your heart and soul in the job." Different managers can stress out employees in different ways
