  1. I am posting about my personal experience last week when i was up in the North. My car (a conti make) travelled about 700+km to a northern state in MY without problem. But suddenly started coughing and revv needle moving up and down very unstable in city traffic. moments later, engine died. Tried starting it,... the moment i engaged to D, engine died again. I was frantically try to restart the engine as temperature outside read 39 deg C. ... a lot of cars behind me started honking, on a single lane road. Finally, i managed to get it started and moving. But the car behaved very strangely. But i managed to get to my destination. I stopped the car and let it cool down thinking it could be the heat. I started asking my relatives about the location of the AD's service centre. No one knows where it is. So, i called Singapore AD service centre to ask them to give me the address or at least the phone number of their counter part in MY. To my frustration and shock, they replied me, they dont know and hang up the phone. Finally, one of my relative managed to ask his mechanic who happens to know since he used to buy parts from them, and guide me and my relative there. When we reach there, it was 15 mins to 5pm (their official closing time). But the service desk malay woman was very helpful and got their most experience foreman to look at my car. Connecting the diagnostic tool to my car, he checked and found nothing wrong, but issues with fuel quality. Immediately the foreman asked me, did i pump Shell. I said yes. The last tank i pump was Shell. He told me there are several cars (similar make as mine) in MY having the same issues with Shell petrol. Immediately, i recalled reading something like this before in the online forum from car club of my conti make, which also had issues with Shell 95 petrol quality in spore. I was advised to go and pump something else (Caltex, Esso/Mobil or Petronas were recommended) to neutralize the poor fuel quality. Then we went for test drive together for him to test if it happens again. All seems ok. I ask how much i had to pay. He told me to check with the Malay woman earlier,... when she clarified that there was no parts replace or anything done except diagnostics and checks, she told me dont have to pay. I was like... wah, if this happened in Spore, i will sure have to pay at least for labour or minimum charge. The point i wanted to make here is, 1. I avoid Shell now (both in MY and SG). 2. Service of AD of my car in spore did not give me a single helping hand when i needed their help most in a foreign land. It will probably be the last car i buy from them. 3. On the contrary, the service rendered to me, free of charge, was outstanding in MY. They went the extra mile to the extend of working overtime to help me... but didnt charge me a single cent. I will remember them and commend their effort by writing to their boss.
  2. The shell personal card gives 3% discount on top of whatever discount is given at the station. However, as far as I know the citibank dividend platinum card gives 5% rebate, but seems to come with a catch that you need to hit 10k of spending on the card in a 2 year time frame to get the rebate. If that the case, isnt the citibank dividend card a better deal? Did I miss something?
  3. When Lydia sum passed away at 62 years she had $12million asset how much do you have? Please do not include father, mother, brother, sister, step relatives, friends, enemies or pets' asset to your own. let see how poor or how rich our group of forumers are. thanks
  4. Any Personal Shell Card holder here? I need to know whether this card is worth to get. I was totally confused by the website saying that there is 6% discount when using this card, and then there was another webpage saying that the additional 3% discount will be extended. Does these discount apply to the price board listed outside Shell stations, or the discount is already inclusive of the station discount, meaning that total will be 6% or 9% off the actual pump price? Right now I am using UOB Platinium Card to get additional 5% discount.

  6. Hey folks! I just had a bad experience in Trxx Fitnxxx today. Few days ago, I received a call that I am given 2 weeks free for the usage of its gym facilities. So, I went today and thought I will just take the free 2 weeks mebership and be gone in 10-15mins. Never did I realise that I was stuck there for more than an hour, with a few chaps taking their turn persuading me to sign up either the yoga package or the personal trainer package. My Body Fat Measurement by their machine, received a score of 79 and I was deemed very fit. Just that I fall short of a kg. Yet, they were trying to convince me to sign up. When I politely declined their offer, they attempted again and again, asking me questions why I was not interested. Towards the end, I have to firmly tell the personal trainer off that he could not hard-sell his package to me, even when I have told him that I was not interested. He left after that and the supervisor came to me. I gave him a short piece of my mind that he has wasted my one hour when I actually just came to get the 14 days free pass and walked out of their counter. I was super pissed.
  7. They are selling Crab Bee hoon! Yup, you hear me correct ... not just their famous chicken pie (BIGGEST in Singapore), they are also selling crab bee hoon and its @ $14.80/pot =) Placed my order and got myself comfortably sited inside their bigger shop and it took them about 15minutes to deliver the dish to me. HOT and fresh from the stove! Serving was huge! I am not an expert in crab but the crab they served is meaty, not those 'flower' crab where you have to break all the shell to get those miserable meat out. Soup was fantastic! Thick and rich in flavor and I do think if a little drop of wine in the soup will make it prefect!!! But not all thing are prefect, the veggy was a disappointment. Seem like they did not remove those 'old' and yellowish leave and I found quite a few in my pot, anyway ... I do really enjoy the dish and I took 1 full hour to dig out all the crab, inch by inch, converting the meaty crab to empty shell. more info from here
  8. my nissan sunny coming to 2.5 year soon and starting to itch for a new ride... but i still love manual driving thus this 2 model come to my mind straight... Honda Civic 2.0M and the Mitsubishi Lancer GT 2.0M Tested them one after another... and here my personal feeling of the both car... First in line Mitsubishi Well the car is really stunning looking to me... look great and the interior is quite ok although it seem a bit too plastic... seat is nice and overall feeling of the car is good... rear space look small but actually when u shift to a comfy sitting position in the front... its actually quite ok at the back... spec is really packed... got AFS... got HID... got this got that... for a price of about 74k ... its quite a car... but driving it really kill my mood a bit... the engine sound is noisy... when i rev it... the sound is totally noise only... very rough... pick up is average but taken into consideration it on 18"... very heavy... road noise is ok... but its the engine noise that killing it... gear change is smooth and short and sharp... i like it a lot... handling is good also and very stable let go to the civic... design wise not a stunning... but nothing a body kit will do... interior is good and a small notch up from the lancer... seat is also same comfy as lancer... let go to the driving part... its damn sweet... the manual is a joy to shift and the engine is real perky... tap and go... rev it and the engine sound refine and sweet... but dunno is it becos of the 16" that why pick up better... handling is good also... but pricy at 78k overall... lancer win price wise and its spec civic win in his engine and driving experience is civic worth that extra 4k? i think its worth it...

It turned out I did save some money and got a chance to see what I have been driving through everyday from sitting in a bus. I thought it was tough but I made it for 5 straight months I thought it would be a good idea if forumers could chip in that is pledging to not to drive one day of the month: Please do show your support and put your nickname here thanks Caring drivers 1.Meecar 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. Thanks for caring for our environment. We are all very grateful to you.
  11. Was travelling along CTE near yio chu kang exit when i notice from afar 3 cars approaching from a distance of 200m real fast. I kept to the centre lane. Within 4 seconds 2 civics past by me and their engines were really loud and sounded rather powerful. The 3rd car is a suzuki swift and was the slowest among the lot but i believe its at least 140km/h for the last while the first 2 civics were around 180km/h. The aftermath were a few kiddies who tried to catch up with them or seize the opportunity to speed. I wonder whether the police could catch up with them if they were to notice this action. Cheers!
  12. there's rampant talk about this tyre being lousy in the wet, skidding here and there, and I'm just wondering if there's anyone here who has skidded in the wet with this tyre. frankly i've never really skidded, but hydroplane a few times (straight line, no danger) and have been on many tires before, including aspec db. my worst wet weather tires seem to be continetal contact sports (model 2 i think, about 7 years back) that will skid as soon as it hits a wet cement patch in my HDB Multi storey carpark. i mean if it were really a skid hazard, it would be shelved, or someone's going to sue yokohama. so... ASPEC DB'S POOR IN THE WET - FACT ? OR FICTION ?

  15. Do you guys find that audio tuning is just a matter of personal taste? I had my car tuned by different reputatable installers. They usually come in the top 3 in I.C.E. Meet. But none to my liking. It seems that tuning vocal and pop is not a problem. But none can tune heavy metal to my taste. So, what do you guys think?
  16. In the Polyglaze website, it is called Wash and Revive, 2-in-1. OK I was using this wash when I had the Starlet. Very sudsy. In Malaysia, you can get the bottle for RM15.00 which will work out to SGD7.00 and I usually get mine from Carrefour Johor. I got back to it when I discovered the Super 99 car wash has some polymer in it. 3 modes of uses. 4 capfuls in a gallon makes strong wash. 2 capfuls in a gallon makes regular strength wash. Undiluted will serve as bug and tar remover. The bottle of the stuff if some of you have seen it is weird. It is a mix of 2 solution inside. A blue lower layer and a purple top layer. I believe the top is the organic strong stuff that removes bug and tar. The lower layer is the actual shampoo. The bottle has to be shaken to form a purple emulsion before mixing with water. OK I decided to do my sis and her hubby a favor after seeing the sorry state of their black Protoge. So I offered my services for a hot meal. Yes times are bad..........AS IF! Hmm... they live in a condo and there is this whole row of lots reserved for car washing! Just get the tap adaptor from the security and viola, unlimited supply of water. Lets see, I got along MF towels for drying and buffing, terry applicators, Soft99 green claybar and my trusty giant Kent oversized sponge. Not forgetting my 20m rolled up Claber hose which kinks like hell. Hopefully upgrade the hose to 20m yellow Hozelok version next time. OK their car is really in a sorry state. The shine isn't there. I decided to test the Power Wash in its strong wash configuration. I started out with hosing the car to break up the loose dirt. Then I proceeded to wash it and claybaring using the Power Wash mix as the lubricant. So how? The solution is so slippery it served very well as the lubricant for the claybar. Got rid of the dirt like it is household detergent. The surface was prepped so smooth, the wind will be happy and laugh over it. Did it panel by panel. Having the water on demand really helped. Do a panel claybaring along the way then hose off. They did warn that the product should not dry on the surface. I guess it must be organic component which can become very damaging. After that, dried the car down. Then came the Klasse AIO which I did panel by panel again. Then after some rest looking for areas I missed out. I did the Klasse SG panel by panel. Great cardio especially for the KSG part. I used the damp applicator and immediate buff technique. For both the KAIO and KSG part, the remnants on the applicators were used to prep all the glass surfaces save the front windshield for some water beading effects. The side mirrors were given this same treatment. Even the head and tail lights are not spared. Yes, lastly the rims are also Klassed when the applicators are at their dirtiest. Oh yes, the Protoge's bumpers are truly well finished as a complete product. They are not painted black bumpers. Their shine shows it all. Unlike the Aveo's bumpers which are actually painted bumpers which accounts for their lack of shine compared to the rest of the metallic bodywork of the car. So don't fret Aveo owners, its our car and not the workmanship. For their black plastic stock mud guards I used Polyglaze Solar Warrior. I chose this because it smells great, it actually shines and the protection is there and it can be used for internal plastic surfaces as well. Finally the tires are given the F1 Black Gold treatment. Endurance is great but too messy and cumbersome. F1BG is value for money. Unfortunately, I didn't have my cam with me to show you the great results. My sis came down and gaped at the results. Her fingers actually touched the surface and commented that it is smooth as te finest porcelein. My payment? Wife and daughter got to use the pool as I worked and I got myself a fine hot meal.
