  2. Dear all, if there are 2 right turn lane, please make full use of them, you will definitely have chance to change lane to left after turning, stop being so selfish by creating a single file. You deprive others of a chance to cross the fast changing traffic light...

  6. Chance upon this post at HWZ. Post here for more awareness. Don't know how to help, maybe buy more newspaper from her. Having 2 kids of my own, seeing the boy sleeping on the floor, very heartbreaking. STOMP - Singapore Seen - Sad to see boy sleeping on the ground as blind grandma sells newspapers STOMPer Cyberdog was sad to see a blind elderly woman having to sell newspapers with her young grandson sleeping on the ground just beside here. According to feedback from several STOMPers, the elderly woman's stall is located at Block 339 Ang Mo Kio. Said the STOMPer: "Two years ago, the poor boy's parent disappeared, leaving him with his old grandparents. "I remember seeing his grandparents carrying him as a baby and selling newspapers everyday. "A few months ago, the grandfather was not seen anymore, and nobody knew what had happened to him. "The grandma, unfortunately began turning blind yet had to continue taking care of the boy by herself. "Since then, I still see the grandma selling newspapers but unable to use eyes to count the change for her customers. "The boy sleeps sleeps next to his grandma's stall everyday. "I'm a poor guy and unable to help much, except to buy newspapers from her. "I really hope that the government will provide some help to this poor family. "It is so sad to watch the boy sleep on the floor like a beggar and the blind grandma having to sell newspapers to support the family. "God bless this family."
  7. PM Lee urges new citizens to make more effort to integrate Published on Jul 7, 2012 Shared values and goals, loyalty to country, and emotional attachment to places, are what give meaning to being a citizen, said Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong. -- ST PHOTO: LIM SIN THAI By Robin Chan Shared values and goals, loyalty to country, and emotional attachment to places, are what give meaning to being a citizen, said Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong. These aspects are much more important than just a change of legal status, he said, as he urged the new Singapore citizens to make greater effort to integrate into society. 'Much more important are the intangible factors, the heart part, that make citizenship meaningful,' Mr Lee said at a citizenship ceremony at Teck Ghee Community Centre on Saturday. He particularly urged new citizens who had recently moved to Singapore to put in more effort and adapt to Singapore. 'Do not just mix amongst yourselves, or with recent immigrants. Make friends with Singaporeans - your neighbours, colleagues, and with your children's schoolmates, and pick up Singaporean customs, lifestyles, norms and social rules,' he said to the 200 new citizens. Mr Lee noted that there are real differences in customs, habits and attitudes even among people who are ethnically similar, and that behaviour that is normal back in the home country, 'may not be considered socially acceptable in Singapore'. 'Know about them and try to bridge them,' he said. He encouraged them to adapt to Singapore norms, as part of their Singapore identity, and the best way to do so is by joining in community life such as by volunteering in school, or in self-help groups. He said: 'Becoming a citizen is a big step, but it is one step along the journey. I hope that now you have become a citizen, you will integrate more into society.'
  8. Hi all, Let's say i am buying a 2nd hand car tomorrow, can i buy the car under my name, put the insurer's name under my dad and the named driver as me? Point to note: i am currently unemployed but i will pay the car in full, my dad is working in overseas permanently and he will need to fly back to Singapore to sign the insurer form if he's allowed to. But if he can't, can i sign on his behalf using his name of course assuming i will have a photocopy of his identification documents? (which by the way, i assume an umemployed person will not be able to sign the insurer form using his/her own name) Thanks.
  9. Car Loan Car loans are one of the most misunderstood loans as they are structured differently from a housing loan. People often claim that car loans which have 1-3% interest rates are very cheap, cheaper than housing mortgage interests in some countries, or is it? Car loan interests are calculated based on the principle for the whole tenure while housing loan interests are calculated based on the principal outstanding. A simple rule of thumb is that the car loan interest rate is nearly double in housing loan term rates! So a 3% car loan interest is actually closer to 6% if you want to compare to housing loan. Now you know why you should pay up your car loan as soon as you can. For those who live in the city like Singapore, public transport is a viable alternative. If you have to own a car due to work or so on, buying a second hand car can be a huge money saver as well.

  14. Hi Guys, As i'm planning for a getaway this coming march, i have decided to book a villa located in phuket. However, this villa is not a hotel managed and it is managed by "agents"and private owner. The payment mode is rather complicated. They requires bank transfer of 25% downpayment of the total sum and another 500USD as security deposit. My question is, is it safe? I've did my own diligence checks on and i don't find anything fishy. Agent replied in good english, they provide facebook page and many reviews from online. The villa i'll be booking is this. http://patonghill.com/5-bedroom-villa/ & http://privatevillarent.com/property/dvr29...g-luxury-villa/ They are actually the same villa but i believed managed by different agent as the quoted price is the same. Is there any insurance provided like ""paypal" where bank will provide some sort of protection against such claims if it happens to be a scam? Checked with my banking friends and was told that normally bank will not protect against such claims and we have to do it at our own risk. In fact, the agent did sent me the villa's owner banking details. I checked on the bank and it was indeed a vaild thailand based bank. Anyone experience such international transfer before?
  15. I am using a Page Guard car alarm model PG8000s and my remote is not working today. The alarm sounded non stop after I used factory remote to open car door. I cut off the wire connecting to the siren but the blinking of light remains. I lost the instruction manual and I remember there is an instruction on how to deactivate the alarm by pressing the red button on the dash of the car. Could anyone help me on this?

  18. This Red Indian boy goes to his mother one day with a puzzled look. "Mom, why is my bigger brother named Thunderstorm?" She told him, "Because he was conceived during a mighty storm." Then he asked, "Why is my sister named Cornflower?" She replied, "Well, your father and I were in a cornfield when we made her." "And why is my other sister called Moonchild?" "Because we were watching the moon landing while she was conceived." Thoughtfully, Mother paused and asked her son, "Tell me, Broken Rubber, why are you so curious?"
  19. taken from blog in mcf........ If you currently own the latest Volvo S60 or XC60 and feels that heat is building up from below, it is better to pull over at the side of the road and check. This is because Volvo is recalling 2,742 2012 Volvo S60s and XC60s in the US due to a potential fuel leak that increases the risk of a fire, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). so mr powder, please change to xc90 or something bigger and mightier for your safety sake. Take care.....

  21. What is the propulsion system for these remote control (R/C) jumbo jets? Normally these model planes are propelled by propellers but from the photos they does not seem to be so leh. Only our resident car cam and R/C specialist Adrian can answer I guess From STOMP: http://singaporeseen.stomp.com.sg/stomp/sg..._concordes.html Posted on 13 Mar 2012 Not your usual model planes -- These guys build Concordes and jumbo jets These people have an extraordinary hobby. They build scale versions of Concordes and jumbo jets that are capable of flight. Said STOMPer Iwanttofly: "I have seen people at Pasir Ris building scale models of planes which are capable of flight. "But the guys in these pictures build scale models of Concordes and jumbo jets, which I have not seen before. "It's quite cool to see these models take flight."

  24. From ST Forum: http://www.straitstimes.com/STForum/Online...ory_772087.html Calling East Coast Park and vicinity 'home' Published on Mar 1, 2012 I GO for my daily early morning walks to East Coast Park, behind my condominium. Lately, I have noticed an increase in the number of people, especially foreign workers, who sleep on the benches or grass or camp at the beach, especially during weekends or public holidays. During weekends or public holidays, the beach is full of camping foreign workers, some with makeshift cooking facilities. So, I dread going for my walk on Mondays or after a public holiday because the beach is littered with rubbish and leftovers of these campers. I also discovered two people using a bench in the Siglap Park Connector next to Victoria Junior College to sleep, every day for weeks. When I informed the neighbourhood police post that they were making the bench their sleeping place, I was told that they were not doing anything illegal. Yong Lee Sen (Ms)
  25. Morning driving between SLE and CTE slip road, travelling at good speed. Am already traveling at 80km with criss cross traffic from CTE to Yio Chu Kang. This idiot honda stream tired to accelerate from back to filtering right. Unless you are driving a Porsche, I gladly let you thru quickly, else the I can't exit to CTE with your turtle speed! Notice this guy is changing 3 lanes at one go in 7:45 am traffic too.
