  1. Jacuzzi horror The Star | Tue, Feb 14 2012 A Jacuzzi's suction was so strong that it almost killed a 158-cm boy. During the school holidays, my family and I went to a resort in Kuantan. Since it was the monsoon season, my sons, aged 11 and eight, were content with just swimming in the pool. On our final day at the hotel, my sons wanted to go into the Jacuzzi, and since there were many smaller children playing in it, I followed them in. Suddenly, my younger boy called out that his brother was at the bottom of the Jacuzzi and was not getting up. Quickly, I tried to pull him up, but to no avail. I screamed for help, and many people jumped in to help. The suction was so strong that it took my husband and four other men to pull my son out. He was resuscitated and rushed to a hospital, suffering lacerations on his chest and stomach. In the intensive care unit, my son cried, saying that he could have died. We comforted him, saying he was a hero and that he had saved many children's lives. If it were not for him, a smaller child would have got stuck in the suction pump and could have drowned. My son returned home to Kuala Lumpur three days later. I thank God and all the kind people who helped us on that frightful day. With God's grace, though bearing the scars of that frightful day, he has returned to swimming, his one true love. So all of you out there who feel like taking a dip in the Jacuzzi with your children, please bear in mind that it almost killed a 158-cm boy who weighed more than 50kg. 3. From ST Forum: http://www.straitstimes.com/STForum/Story/...ory_763717.html Primary 1 registration 'By allowing parents who live farther away to volunteer, schools lower the chances of those who live nearer.' MS CECILIA TEO: 'I signed up as a parent volunteer at a popular school in my area to increase the chances of my first child's enrolment in Primary 1. I did so although we live less than 2km from the school. But I was told that children of parent volunteers are not guaranteed a place and that balloting is required. I know it is not possible to abolish the parent volunteer system because schools need volunteers. But at least restrict it to families living nearby. By allowing parents who live farther away to volunteer, schools lower the chances of those who live nearer. I hope the Ministry of Education will review the arrangement. There are many parents like me who want to enrol their children in schools nearby, because of the convenience rather than because the schools are top schools or popular choices.' [/color]
  4. Penis tattoo causes permanent erection for man Wednesday, Jan 11, 2012 AsiaOne An Iranian man who had the bright idea of immortalising his girlfriend's name as a tattoo on his penis was left with more than a sore organ - he landed himself a permanent semi-erection. The case was first presented to doctors in the form of a partially rigid penis of a 3-month duration, with a tattoo covering its shaft and a smaller tattoo on the glans, said an article published in the latest issue of the Journal of Sexual Medicine. Upon examination, the patient admitted that the semi-erect organ had occurred soon after he had a tattoo of a Persian script reading "borow be salaamat" (translated to good luck on your journey) and the first initial of his girlfriend's last name ("M") inked onto his penis. Putting aside the question of why would anyone subject his penis to thousands of needle pricks, how could a tattoo result in a permanent erection? The answer, as MSNBC's The Body Odd reported, lies in the traditional tattooing technique the man subjected himself to. The man told doctors that a traditional tattooist created the tattoo manually using a handheld needle. In handheld needling, a needle is first used to perforate the skin. After which, henna, ash and other natural pigments are applied on the perforated skin surface. There is no control of the depth of the needle in handheld needling, Iranian urologists wrote in the article. Prolonged erection can make your penis fall off The doctors went on to say what likely happened was that the tattooist punctured overly deep holes that damaged blood vessels in the penis, resulting in a pseudoaneurysm - the pooling of blood outside a vessel wall. The man told doctors that the tattooing process was followed by deep penile tissue bleeding for several days, which complicated the tattooing. Soon after, the man began noticing his nighttime erections were lasting unusually long, MNBC reported. A week later, he realised he had a 24/7 semi-erection. Doctors recommended that he see a specialist to have the excess blood pooling in his organ removed, but he chose to have a shunt surgery instead. A shunt procedure drains excess fluid from the inflamed areas of the body. The procedure proved unsuccessful in curing the problem. However, as the man is not in pain and is still able to achieve a normal erection and have sex, he has refused further treatments. For those out there thinking that the penile tattooing didn't turn out so bad after all - with the man coming out of it with his manhood just looking "bigger all the time" (as one reader put it) - here's a word of caution: MSBC noted that non-sex related erections lasting longer than four hours are often dangerous for penises, as the lack of fresh blood flow can starve the penile tissues of oxygen. When a body part gets cut off from its supply of oxygen, the destruction of tissues can result in impotence. Worst case scenario is: the prgan can drop off. As it is, men are advised to follow the last note Iranian doctors wrote in the medical report: "Based on our unique case, we discourage penile tattooing."

  6. Hi all, First and foremost, my apologies if this question is a no-brainer but i'm really at my wits end. I recently installed Pioneer's DEH 9350SD in my ride and I'm very happy with the sounds coming from this HU. However, I've been trying to set the time/date on this HU and I've followed the instruction manual to the T but somehow, I am unable to set the time and date for this HU. In short, this is what I tried doing on the HU. 1) Pressed the manual control (the big round knob on the left of the HU) and it showed me 3 different 'headers' - 1) Function 2) Audio and 3) Entertainment 2) The time/date function is under 'Entertainment'. After choosing this function, it was the default display on the HU but tried as I did, I couldn't get to change the time and date. I'd really appreciate if anyone who is familiar with the 'how to' settings for the time/date function to help me with a step-by-step instructions, please. Many thanks in advance. Dex

  8. Dear all, i would like to introduce myself as i'm a newbie in this forum, i only joined the forum before i purchased my golf gti mk5, everything seems to be ok, till recently, things starts floating out of standard equation, it's wrong.. very wrong i would say, so wrong that i will have to disclose this case that i'm going thru now, hence... i'm seeking advices here or if it's appropriate, seek address from a lawyer whom understand my situation at this moment, i shall begin then which i finally concluded the whole situation, with full black and write copies in original and photocopied form ) 4/12/2011 I met up with Mr Andrew( from vagsg.com ) with intentions to place a deposit for the purchase of his vehicle, after a test drive, i placed a deposit of $500/- with a written letter with signature from Mr Andrew himself, following up was my agent ( Mr Ken ) who came to my place to fill up a sales agreement as followed: 4/12/2011 I called up my agent ( Mr Ken ) who works for a company with his designation as a manager whom i dealt with before for my other car which i currently still own, it was 20 months back, everything went so smoothly and he was so efficient with his work, everything was settled in his office and voila, car was handed to me in 2 days, a call from UOB was received and i clearly requested for a $60,000 loan. We have a sales agreement which consist of the following: Mr Andrew Particulars My Particulars address blah blah car model: VW Golf GTI Agreed price: $78500 ( the altered UOB statement reads $90,000 ) Less Deposit: $500 ( Mr Andrew covered with letter so no problem ) Less Loan required: $60000 interest @ 1.88% suppose to be total $66576 ( But it's altered to $65,000 @ 1.88% total $72,124 ) Downpayment: $18000 ( it's altered to $25,000 ) Add Advance installment: $952 ( actual $1031, credit agency paid 1st instalment, weird huh ) Add Insurance Premium: $2100 ( he claim AXA, only got to know now, the insurance that was dealt by the car company is a paper that cost me $2380 that won't cover anything should something happen, things that matters life and death is fake, doctored by the dealer or the insurance agency agent/broker ) Add LTA Transfer fee: $1745 ( it's fake, transfer of ownership is only $1148 which was done by the credit company, the boss told me himself that it's deducted from his GIRO, how come? ) Of which i came out with a company cheque of $4796 cash cheque (silly) for the payment of the advance installment, insurance premium and LTA transfer fee with faith and all confidence in Mr Ken ( has his signature on it ). 6/12/2011 Made my cashier order with DBS bank in the morning for downpayment; delivery of vehicle was done on that day itself when Mr Ken presented the cheque from UOB Bank of $60000 at 4.30pm. vehicle was handed to me and i happily drove home. 13/12/2011 ( Document was dated 8/11/2011, i received it only 5 days later ) I received a letter from UOB bank stating i have a loan from UOB of $65,000 instead of the $60000, was home late, called the bank and they were having a maintenance hence unable to check either, and i received another Hire-purchase agreement from UOB stating i bought the car at $90,000. with $25000 as deposit and $65000 loan, i only have the pink carbon note with a really faded signature of my mother / Witness to hirer is Mr Ken/ a credit agency stamp and signature on it/ acknowledgement from UOB bank representative ) Informed Mr Andrew about what happened, he confirmed with total amount of $78,000 being deposited into his bank. (inclusive of the $500, everything was right) Informed Mr Andrew to get a bank statement print-out which clearly says $78000 being deposited into his bank ( he sent to to me on 20/12/2011 as he's on holiday and assist me by contacting his bank to get all print outs ) 16/12/2011 Called up Mr Andrew as i confirm something was wrong, very very wrong because i bought a car from a direct seller with assistance from Mr Ken, but however, there was another agreement from UOB which states a different story which goes like this: Agreement from UOB car price with accessories + coe: $90,000 cash: $25,000 total: $65,000 Interest:$7128.33 Called up Mr Ken and ask him what happen, his reply was: it's an honest mistake 21/12/2011 Made a report with the Police, however due to the poor description and tormenting 4 hours, they only manage to uncover 1/4 of the story, need advises if i am allow to make one more report for the cheating of my family in this whole thing: insurance details: Owner name: My mum gender: male ( weird huh ) NRIC: my mum NRIC marital status: married ( my dad passed away 3 months ago ) driving experience: 15 years ( my mum only got her 3a 5 years ago ) the whole thing is a mess... the car company boss and credit agency boss just ask me to pursue everything from Mr Ken and so helpful to testify against him if i need to, i checked everything thru, everything is wrong/ forged/ fake, please advise on the channels i can take to take actions, they were so into telling me a legal pursue isn't worth it, saying the sum is so small, i have to emphasize, THE CAR COMPANY DID NOT POST ME THE INSURANCE UNTIL I MET THE CAR COMPANY BOSS TODAY WHICH HE HANDED IT TO ME AND I FOUND THE PROBLEMS, EVERYTHING IS FAKE. 22/12/2011 ) 22/12/2011 i met up with the agency people and the car dealer. Everything was revealed, he work behind his own car dealership boss to make additional income by handing my case file to these car dealer and credit agency, what happen was he somehow manage to turn Mr Andrew car to this company in west coast and he in turn sold the car to me, meaning, instead of a proper deal of $78,500, arrangements between Mr Ken, The car dealer, the credit agency did something... My car purchase value was marked up to $90,000 and the credit agency did a loan of $65,000. only know the insurance was so wrong when i saw the photocopy which they did not even mail to me after 2 weeks of purchase. now the insurance is a mess too... if something had happened in the past 2 weeks, that's it for me because the insurance definitely void and the car insurance was done by this particular car company. the credit company involved said everything in black and white. Mr Ken Admitted he pass my company cash cheque of $4796 to a 3rd party ( his friend ) and Mr Ken is currently enjoying his holiday in Auckland, only to know i made a police report when his good friend, the car dealer informed him about a police case being made against him, he started to tell me he's going to die etc, he sms me with records in my phone that the car dealer will pass me the balance, why hand me any balance? that's weird, it's all in the records though, in my phone. 22/12/11 Meet up with Mr Andrew ( he was only back from a 10 days holiday yesterday even and kept following up with me on how's everything going) right after meeting the car dealer and credit agency boss; Mr Andrew wrote a letter to reconfirm that the sale of the car was $78,500 and not $90,000 as claimed in the written UOB agreement, he even put in his address in London and local address, he was suppose to leave singapore yesterday, think they thought they could pull a fast one on me. after doing some math and thinking, everything is clear now; 1) Car was considered consigned to the car dealer who fixed the $90,000 price tag with so called $25000 as deposit ( Mr Andrew wrote the letter to specify the deal is just Him and Me at $78500 ) 2) Insurance contents are fake, credit company issued car dealer amounting $4553.50 for car insurance, car on 6/12/2011, UOB bank rochor issued Mr Andrew Dearman $60,000. The UOB agreement states $65,000 loan was taken when whole actual amounting to only $64553.50, aint exactly bothered with the $446.50 that went missing but i am really keen to understand what's wrong but i'm heading to UOB HQ / ETIQA and CPIB directly later. At least i understand why they didn't want me to see a lawyer over these, it's so dirty.. To Everyone here, i hope i ain't confusing anyone of you, for the legal experts that have gone thru my long boring note and have a further interest in my current situation, please contact me at Mobile: 91050003. P.S Mr Andrew is willing to meet me up with a legal council in regards should i decide in pursuing this matter in court, because i am fully ready to stop this form of injustice. As of 1 am, Mr Ken is in auckland telling me he wants to end his life there because he's finished when his car dealer friend told me i lodged a report, his 2 best friends wish to testify against him if i decide( i will ) to go to court. Warmest Regards, Gary Tan Mobile: 91050003

  13. Bankrupts' CPF inheritance goes first to... Court of Appeals ruled that money must first be used to pay off debts. Tue, Nov 15, 2011 AsiaOne Any inheritance money from the Central Provident Fund (CPF) willed to a bankrupt, whether discharged or not, will go towards settling the bankrupt's debt, reported the Straits Times. The Court of Appeal ruled that any money left after paying off creditors will be held in trust. This means it will be managed on behalf of the bankrupt. The court also ruled that even if the information on the bequeathed sum surfaces after the bankrupt has been discharged from his or her debts, the money will still go to the Official Assignee (OA), who will hold it in trust. The court set these rulings in a judgment released last week in a case where a discharged bankrupt tried to keep $102,000 left to her by her late sister in CPF money and SingTel shares. The woman involved in the test case, 52-year-old kitchen helper Madam Lim Lye Kiang, had been a bankrupt for 11 years with debts amounting to $1.18 million to 13 creditors when her sister Lye Keow died of cancer in March 2008. When Madam Lim Lye Keow died, her bequest should have been transferred to the OA, as under the law, all assets belonging to a bankrupt are held by the OA for distribution to his creditors. However, the OA was not aware of the inheritance. The paper reported that in October 2009, the OA asked the court to discharge Madam Lim as a bankrupt, as she had been one for more than ten years with no further realisable estate. She had also paid up to $150 for her monthly contributions to her bankruptcy estate. She was then discharged in November of that year after each of her creditors received $11,664 in a final dividend declared by the OA. However, two months later, she tried to claim her inheritance from the CPF. The CPF Board instead transferred the money to the OA, who applied to the court for an order to distribute the money among Madam Lim's creditors. In October 2010, the High Court sided with the OA. Madam Lim had argued that since the CPF authorised the release of the money after she was discharged as a bankrupt, the money belonged to her. According to the paper, the court said that 'the protection extended to the money of CPF account holders did not extend to nominees like Madam Lim, and that the money could thus go to the OA to settle debts'. When she appealed, the appeal court ruled that as she was a bankrupt at the time of her sister's death, the money had to go to the OA. It rejected the argument of her lawyer, Foo Soon Yien, who said that her discharge 'had the effect of revesting the entitlement to the money in her'. The court, made up of Judges of Appeal Chao Hick Tin, Andrew Phang and V. K. Rajah, instead agreed with the OA's lawyer Lim Yew Jin, who argued that the discharge did not reinstate Madam Lim's right to the money. Bankruptcy laws that rule the administration of a bankrupt's estate may continue after his discharge were upheld by the court. The court said that while a bankruptcy discharge releases him from debts, it does not affect the debts themselves. Thus, any assets that surface after a final dividend is paid to creditors will be held in trust by the OA for the discharged bankrupt so what is the point of being discharged as a bankrupt and after 10 years still have to mari kita
  14. SINGAPORE - A Singaporean businessman, his wife and two children have paid US$1 million (S$1.28 million) to become the first Asian family to fly together on space-tourism airline Virgin Galactic, the company announced Monday. "I had lunch yesterday with a guy who got in touch with us in Singapore, and over lunch he signed his contract for not just a seat, but for a whole flight," Virgin Galactic commercial director Stephen Attenborough said. Speaking at an international media and marketing conference in Singapore, Attenborough said the customer handed over a cheque for US$1 million and asked to remain anonymous because "apparently he hasn't told his wife yet." "So he is going to become, or he and his family will become, the first family from Asia to become astronauts together," Attenborough said. The US-based firm, part of British tycoon Richard Branson's Virgin conglomerate, has sold bookings since 2005 at US$200,000 per seat even though it has not yet set a firm timetable for space flights to be launched from New Mexico. Branson announced in late 2004 that the firm would launch the world's first space tourism flights in two to three years but after delays, the target has now been moved to 2013. Source Imagine his kids checked-in to "Space" on FB during the flight. Damn cool

  18. Women are born better drivers (from AsiaOne Motoring, 21 Sep 2011) By Tan Mae Lynn Let's be honest. We're better drivers and you know it. We women are just more modest (usually) and don't have epic egos to battle with. Self-assured is what you can call us. Here are just three reasons why we are better behind the wheel: 1. Better temperament This is why insurance companies offer lower premiums to women drivers. Extensive studies have shown that women are generally more cautious drivers and, hence, statistically less prone to accidents caused by their own recklessness. Furthermore, when you have a more even temperament, logically you can perceive your surroundings clearly. Besides, how many road rage cases that you have been involved in or heard of featured a woman perpetrator? I rest my case. 2. Peripheral vs tunnel vision When you are more focused, you can strategise better. That's probably why there are more men in high-powered positions in companies. But when it comes to peripheral vision, women are better. Men suffer from tunnel vision. If your line of sight covers more elements, you become aware of potential dangers and opportunities on the road ahead and around you. Granted, men may have better depth perception. But when you're driving, if you're more aware of other motorists around you, you can make better judgment calls. 3. Sense of direction Both men and women often get lost on unfamiliar roads. But men are likely to stay lost longer for this singular reason: Their egos prevent them from asking for help. For some strange reason, they often feel embarrassed asking for directions, even from a stranger they're probably never going to meet again. That said, men have an internal compass to find their way around. Women, on the other hand, need landmarks (Google search says so). Seriously, if you're in unfamiliar territory, how do you tell where's north, south, east and west? But tell me to look out for the golden arches of a fast food joint at a certain cross junction before turning left, and I'd know how to get to my destination. And if that still doesn't get me anywhere, there's bound to be a kind local I can approach who can tell me how to get there. That said, there are, of course, exceptions. I readily concede (no, I don't need to battle my ego) that there are women who betray all odds and are plain bad drivers. But that's fodder for another column. Stay tuned.

  21. All bro/sis, need your opinion on this. Intend to upgrade stock 15 rims. Car manual recommends only up to 16. Problem is stocks for size 16 is limited while 17 has lots of it. So asked service engr will it affects the car warranty if change to 17 & the advice is to follow the manual. Did not gives clear Ok/Not OK. Next is insurance issue. Will the insurance company decline liability if rims were changed to 17 as car manual states only up to 16. (Think 1 insurance company did that). Should I change to 16 (limited choice = may not like) or proceed to 17 (lot of choice to choose) & risk warranty/insurance issues (touch wood). Gone are the days where you just change to what you like. :( Thanks in advance.
