  4. http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/sin...1177383/1/.html SINGAPORE : Finance Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam has said that not allowing banks to finance Certificate of Entitlement (COE) prices will not be effective in moderating the rise in premiums. Responding to a call by MP for Pasir Ris-Punggol GRC Gan Thiam Poh to set loan limits in order to moderate COE prices, Mr Tharman said people can turn to other borrowing avenues like car dealers and leasing companies to get around bank rules. He said other factors play a bigger role in influencing COE prices. "The more fundamental factors which impact on COE premiums include the economic outlook which shapes demand and the supply of COEs which is determined by the allowable vehicle growth. And by car owners' decisions on their own part to de-register, whether they decide to de-register their cars," said Mr Tharman. He added: "Car loans granted by financial institutions do not pose threats to financial stability. These loans form a very small proportion of total loans in the financial system, or even of total consumer loans. And the proportion of car loans that are non-performing loans is low, extremely low." - CNA/ms

  8. Venus : Jurong Point 's Durian empire. Name : Yu Huan [Floor Manager] Date : 9/10/11 Time : 4pm plus. Wifey placed an order for 2 durian rolls and a durian waffle at the cashier. Seated and waited for the foods to be serve. When the foods does arrived it turn out that my durian waffle wasn't waffle but instead durian chendol. Obviously they have made a mistake in my order. I was telling myself to make do with chendol since it has the same durian topping like waffle. The outlet was pretty bz with the afternoon crowds as well. Good intention on my part turn out to be taken for a ride. sigh. After 2, 3 scoops and minutes into the chendol, a waitress (Lady in the pic) came to our table with a plate of waffle. Politely i told her is fine she can take back the waffle i won't be able to finish it. I have tasted the chendol anyway. What pissed me off afterward was when she said that i have to top up the px different. Since chendol cost $2 plus more than waffle. Unbelievable she also accused me (customer) for not informing them that order was not correctly served. So the onus lie on the customer! I stood firm and say "NO" to topping up the px different. $2plus is a small issue but is the principle that matter. Through out the heated verbal exchange i was conversing in english while she in Mandarin. Only then it strike me that she aren't local. So i switch to my not so fluent mandarin and threaten to bring the issue up to the relevant authority. She than relented and offerined an "unwilling" apology. I told her straight in the face that this is not the practise/cultre in singapore. Yes i admit i gotten a bit carry away upon learning of her nationailty. I am certain if a local born and breed floor mgr i would have gotten an apology straight away. Is this the culture/practise in their country ?
  9. -125 as we speak. anyone get burn and what is your damage?
  10. To those who posted, i have read through everything(all 24 pages of it.) Just to say, I get your points. but my temper cant seem to hold me back at all.( I do admit i lost control just now.) 11. I'm looking for a good reliable retail Point-of-Sale system but don't know where to start. Any recommendations or suggestions?
  12. Open to public already although only 50% of the shops are open (or in various stages of opening) This is a very small shopping centre, just somewhat bigger than Siglap centre but smaller than Sun Plaza. There are 4 levels and a basement. Top level is still sealed off. This place is mainly for eating since all open levels are dominated by eateries. For example, NYDC, Pastamania, Mos Burger, Sushi Tei, Subway, Lerk Thai, Yoshinoya, some chicken rice fast food shop etc etc. There are few retail shops to look at unless you enjoy Giordano , Watsons or Eu Yan Sang . I think Giant at Parkway can hold my attention longer. Anchor tenant, for lack of any alternative option is Challenger. As this is a new building, the smell of industrial glue is still thick in some places. After 20 mins, moi felt a bit trippy so I left. I think people will come here mostly to eat and fark off. It is too small to sustain a proper shopping trip. Overtime this place will probably revert to being an unhappening HDB hangout.
  13. if lets say i need to drop someone off at woodlands checkpoint the taxi stand on saturday morning 6am which way should i take is the fastest and convenient and no jam/ roadblock at all. please advise thanks!
  14. Hi, I know that buses are required to fit 3-point seat belts as required by LTA. My 8-seater MPV does not come with the package with 3-point seat belts in the centre seats for 2nd and 3rd rows. Only 2-point. Anyone knows where I can install the 3-point seat belt with retractor from inside/behind the seat (not from ceiling)?
  15. Hi, would like to seek clarification if this is true. was told that LTA will fine $200 and deduce 6 points regardless you are right or wrong as long you are involved in an accident, it will be imposed... 1 mth back, i was involved in a taxi accident whereby i was hit by a taxi at the rear while waiting for the opposite traffic to clear before i could make a right turn to the carpark. Ambulance and TP were involved.. I yet to receive any such letter from them but was rather disgusted to hear there's actually such onerous crap around.. i don't understand, being the victim yet must being penalized..
  16. Called up Starhub and was told that for 1 point to extend to my bedroom, cost S$139.00. Is it normal price? Thought read somewhere that nowaday the cost around S$50.00? Mine is 4 room HDB and not private / landed. Consider expensive? Anyone can recommend alternative contractor? can help to advise? Thanks..
  17. I am no expert but it seems that we could be in trouble in the near future. So better surf all you and surf before it is all too late You Say Published June 24, 2010 Could the Internet be reaching breaking point? There's an urgent need to simplify things and collapse data centre architectures By ADAM JUDD THE Internet has become part of our lives faster than any technology in world history. So it's fair to ask - how's it doing? Could it be breaking? Well, it's certainly creaking! From the first Web browsers in the early 1990s to today's 1.7 billion users, the Internet has grown exponentially. One petabyte can hold about 20 million, four-door filing cabinets full of text - or 500 billion pages of printed text - and, using a conservative methodology, we estimate that the growth in petabytes per month will result in Internet traffic growing almost 30-fold by 2020. While demand growth is good and drives us forward, making new things possible, the economics of the Internet are not keeping up with this growth in demand. In fact, the underlying economic model that built the Internet is breaking. Data compiled from the service provider world - the big, global telecommunications carriers that have essentially been building the Internet since the early 1990s - shows that revenue from Internet services has been growing roughly in parallel with the investments required to keep building the Net, allowing service providers to put profits back into Internet extensions. So far, so good. But the costs to continue building the Net will continue to increase by 18-20 per cent every year from now to 2020, while revenue from Internet services will only increase by 5 per cent a year in that same timeframe. Flatter revenue means less profit to reinvest in Internet extension and innovation. This is true for any technology: so, without ongoing innovation, the Internet stagnates - meaning, access costs go up, service quality goes down, and growth dies. In fact, we estimate that this 'breaking point' in the service provider arena may occur as soon as 2014. And we think that this economic breakdown we're seeing in the service provider world is coming to the world of enterprise networks as well. If we don't continue to find new innovations in the way we network our enterprises, we face the same decline in performance, reliability, and security. So as we look at enterprise network needs and build-out costs over the next 15 to 20 years, enterprises will be facing a big problem. Should enterprises care? Yes, their future networks need ongoing innovations in performance, reliability and security just as much as anyone's - if not more so. According to analysis firm Gartner, data centre consolidation exercises will continue throughout 2010, with adoption of more server virtualisation technology and application services, and these will make the data centre more congested than ever. Enterprises will also focus on increasing employee productivity by leveraging available technology such as unified communication and video conferencing to continue to focus on ICT innovation to increase their bottom line. And don't forget that end-users are now demanding more connectivity these days, and allowing them to do so increases productivity for enterprises as well, with richer content and traffic in the enterprise network. At the same time, enterprise CIOs are still pressured to control operational costs, yet these ambitious goals mean a lot of high-performance networking - in the data centre, in the campus, and in the branch. It's clear that network-based systems are essential to their mission, particularly as network technology and connectivity continue to speed up. With more devices doing more things, there will be more congestion, which impacts performance and service in an enterprise network, while security vulnerabilities are breaking through perimeter defence firewalls between devices, applications and networks, letting malware in. In an enterprise, performance, security and reliability are non-negotiable. This all means that legacy approaches just aren't sustainable. This is true in the data centre, and it's true everywhere in an enterprise network. Enterprises face space and energy-efficiency demands from the data centre to the branch network, and gains in power efficiency mean 'doing more for less'. ICT carbon footprints are becoming common in RFPs (request for proposals), and governments are starting to regulate certain industries. While such efficiency directly benefits the bottom line of an enterprise, it imposes huge demands for reduced space and energy use in the very near term. If you add in the 'green' space and energy efficiencies required by enterprises, then we have to add sustainability to the requirements for performance, security, and reliability. So all said, enterprises have some very tough goals to reach, in a very short time. The typical network architecture found in most data centres is actually two different networks: a storage area network and an Ethernet backbone. In both cases, there are multiple tiers of autonomous devices that are attempting to cooperate to create 'a network'. So, in the end, it is a very complex and expensive environment. This matters, because data centres drive enterprise networks on the ground, and increasingly, in the cloud. This kind of complexity is the enemy of performance, security, reliability, and scalability. A simplified approach The strategic approach we have to take is to simplify things and collapse data centre architectures to enable the exponential scaling in performance, security and reliability needed to meet future networking demands and leverage possible cloud solutions. The goal here is a simple, flat data centre fabric that ultimately connects all the elements of the data centre, yet maintaining the simplicity of a single switch, with a single control plane which can scale for cloud-ready applications. This is where I see the data centre going, because there's no other way to scale to meet the network demands enterprises face - and truly leverage the cloud where they can. Given the enterprise agenda for 2010, IT and next-generation program networking will clearly be essential enablers for the achievement of enterprise goals. Without these continuing investments in innovation, and new approaches to networking that enable scaling to the levels of performance, security, reliability and sustainability that enterprises need. we see the same economic threat facing enterprise networks that is facing the Internet. 18. tonight who watching? like how the opposition trying to prepare the ground. already sda and rp want to form alliance but it failed cos kenneth jayaratnam's proposal to essentially take over sda and replace chiam was rejected by sda. rp is young and untested, only the jbj brand name to keep it going. sda is tested but declining as chiam lao liao. wp is the only one slow and steady. sdp, that one no need say no hope and i dont want to see them in parliament.
  19. I was crossing @ the pedestrian crossing @ the turn in of Causeway Point today @ around 4.45pm. A few pedestrians n me was crossing halfway when suddenly a blue car came near n horn @ us. I stared @ him and guess what, he was like scolding us as if we're illegal crossing and blocking his way. I was d*mn furious. At the point he horn us, the green man still blinks and counting down @ 2 then 1. I know it so well cos I was looking at it when I'm crossing over. Even when the green man changes to red after that, it still takes 1 sec for the green light to come on so that the cars can move. What's the problem with this guy? I felt like banging on his bonnet n get him out of the car. He got car, so what? Action pack, brainless idiot.
