  3. Anyone interested? ========================================== Christopher Tan Sat, Jul 28, 2007 The Straits Times If you want a Porsche for a day, all you need to do is sign up for a Maybank Platinum credit card and charge $12,000 to it within three months. And during the promotional period, from Aug 1 to Oct 31, you need to charge only $6,000 to drive a Cayenne or Boxster. Maybank, which says more than 15 per cent of its Platinum card members spend $6,000 in three months, expects to attract at least 10,000 new customers through this tie-up with Porsche
  4. http://www.autoblog.com/2007/07/02/porsche...g-hybrid-power/ Automakers and legislators in Europe are tightening the screws on CO2 emissions, and Porsche may turn to hybrid powertrains for the Cayenne and Panamera to meet a proposed 130 gram per kilometer limit. Bosch and Audi are reported partners in the effort to bring a gasoline/electric system to the Cayenne before 2010, with the Panamera falling in line, as well. While hybrid technology is typically used to boost fuel economy, the V8 and large vehicle size of the Porsche models are anathema to the studied aero shape of the Insight or Prius, and we doubt that Porsche has misgivings about the unbelievably strong torque delivery of an electric motor. You'll still be able to rocket around in your Wessiach thumper, but Porsche has got its eye on that 130g/kg CO2 target. If it becomes mandatory, the hybrid powertrain is a good hedge at being ready. In the meantime, Porsche is promoting a percentage reduction in CO2, rather than a blanket number for all vehicles. [source: Car]

  6. What some guy did with an old Fiat 500: From this: To this: On another note, for all who like the way the vintage (70s) Fiat 500 looks but want new technology in it... A NEW Fiat 500 is already in production: And if u ask me, I think it's a very very cute car and does its predecessor justice. Perhaps I'll dig up more specs and pictures of the new Fiat 500 and put it in a new thread. Anyway the Porsche Replica is damn cute too.

  8. The Porsche 356 is the first Porsche production automobile and it was sold from 1948 through 1965. Although many consider Porsche 64 as being the first automobile produced by the German company, the 64 was never mass-produced and it was only a drivable test-mule. The 364 was created by Ferdinand Porsche and his son, Ferry Porsche, designed by Erwin Komenda and its engine features derived from the Volkswagen Beetle, deigned by Mr. Porsche Senior. The models available were initially coupe, cabriolet (luxury convertible) and then roadster (a stripped down convertible). Before being withdrawn in 1965, it went through several changes. The most desirable versions were 356 “Carrera” (often sold for well over $150,000), “Super 90” and “Speedster”. In the late 50`s, the original selling price for a Porsche was $4,000. In 1954, Max Hoffman, the only importer of Porsches into United States needed a lower cost, racier version for the American marker. Therefore, the company created 356 “Speedster” that became a instant hit thanks to the low, raked windshield (easily removable for weekend racing), bucket seats, and minimal folding top. These days, this car is still very appreciated as it is sold for over $100,000 and it has been used in several films, including 48 Hours, its sequel – Another 48 Hours and Top Gun. In 1957, the production of Speedster peaked at 1,171 cars. In 1959 it was replaced by the Convertible D model, which featured a taller, more practical windshield, glass side windows, and more comfortable seats. Year after year, the basic shape of Porsche 356 remained the same and was easily recognized and remarked, even though changes were made, especially in the mechanical area. Coupe and cabriolet models were produced every year up to 1965, with the last 356B Roadster built in early 1963. The final model build was 356 C that featured disc brakes and the most powerful pushrod engine Porsche so far: the 95HP “SC”. In the year that Porsche launched 911, 1964, Porsche 356 production peaked at 14,151 cars. Still, the company continued to sell the 356C in North America through the end of 1965 as a lower-cost vehicle. When the customers complained the price for 911 was too high (almost twice the price of the 356), Porsche started producing the 912, using the 356 engine. The 912model was sold between 1965 and 1969. 56 years after the beginning of the production,Sports Car International named 356C number ten on the list of Top Sports cars of the 60`s. Today, the 356 is a respected car among the collectors, as it stood the test of time. Worldwide, thousands of 356 owners maintain the tradition, preserving their cars and driving them regularly. articles by http://www.racing-easy.info

  10. The Porsche World Roadshow is likely to be held in Singapore for the very first time early next year. Pending approval from the authorities, it will take place here to allow its participants to experience the Porsche brand. This long-established event is usually held at a racing circuit, such as Sepang in Malaysia or Sentul in Indonesia. But this time round, specially invited guests are expected to meet at distributor Stuttgart Auto's headquarters in Sungei Kadut. The plan is for them to drive to an area in Tuas which has been blocked off so that they can put the range of new Porsche models through their paces, as two German instructors show them the finer points of safety driving. Those on the guest list will include Porsche owners, prospective customers, and the private banking clients of a few banks. A total of 160 people are expected to take part over five days with two half-day sessions each. The privilege will not come free though. It will cost $328 if you're a Porsche owner, and $488 otherwise. The driving programme includes braking and slalom exercises, as well as a road tour around Singapore. Approval from the Land Transport Authority will also be required to bring in the special German-registered Porsche World Roadshow fleet. 'Holding it in Singapore makes it more convenient for our customers because they don't have to travel to another country,' says one source. 'It also provides better exposure for the Porsche brand here.' The German sports carmaker does not believe in traditional advertising and uses the roadshow as a form of communication. Such shows are also organised regularly in Taiwan and the Philippines.
  11. Finally more concrete pictures or artwork of the upcoming 4-door porsche, the Porsche Panamera, surfaces: Porsche's answer to the Ferrari 612, Aston Martin Rapide and the like. Looks like a beauty to me. Coming to showrooms 2009. Slowly wait ah. But be sure to see the production version in photos late 2008. So it's two years and counting.
  12. THE Porsche Cayman seems to have opened up a new market for the German sports car manufacturer, with the new model netting 15 orders here even before it arrives in the first quarter of 2006. Authorised distributor Stuttgart Auto said the majority of those who have booked a Cayman without driving it are first-time Porsche buyers. 'Most of them are new to the Porsche brand but because of the worldwide publicity about the Cayman, they are well-informed about the car's features and performance,' said Karsono Kwee, the executive chairman of Eurokars Group, which owns Stuttgart Auto. 'They don't need a test drive before buying the car.' A 10 per cent cash deposit is required for the $303,888 (with COE) Cayman, which is a two-seater coupe based on the popular Boxster roadster. It may have the same mid-engined layout and underpinnings as the Boxster, but it is considered a separate model in the Porsche line-up. The Cayman has a newly developed 3.4-litre, 295 hp flat-six engine which is more powerful than the 2.7-litre engine of the Boxster or the 3.2-litre unit of the Boxster S. And because it has a fixed roof, it does not require the additional strengthening of the roadster body, thus making the coupe lighter than the topless model and further enhancing the power-to-weight ratio. Acceleration from zero to 100 kmh takes 5.4 seconds and the recorded top speed is 275 kmh. Mr Kwee believes the excitement generated by the Cayman could be due to the lack of direct competition. 'So far, there is no direct competitor in this segment because it is a high-performance two-seater coupe that is just over $300,000,' he said. The other German offerings available include the BMW Z4 and Mercedes-Benz SLK convertibles. Mr Kwee added that the marque's popularity was boosted by a quarterly sale organised by Stuttgart Auto for its pre-owned Porsche cars. And last year, the '2 plus 2' warranty programme was introduced, extending the usual two-year new car warranty with another two years of pre-owned warranty for a total of four years of back-up by the authorised distributor. 'This provides reassurance and peace of mind to our owners and is one of the reasons for the increased popularity of Porsche,' he said. With the Cayman, Porsche now has a better model mix with a four-model line-up. The coupe slots in between the most expensive Boxster - the Boxster S, priced at $279,888 - and the entry-level 911, the 911 Carrera at $414,888. Porsche also has an SUV model, the Cayenne. In 2008, a four-seater four-door sports car called the Panamera will be unveiled. This article first appeared in BT on August 31, 2005 http://motoring.asiaone.com.sg/arti...050907_001.html

  18. On saturday night, I saw a really ugly yellow civic EG9 i think, push a GT3. The GT3 driver didnt wanna play but the civic kept pushing his backside. What a stupid civic driver. When the civic passed my slow, modest car, it was OBVIOUS that it was a turbocharged civic.(from the sound of the turbine, not the BOV).I must say the civic was VERY VERY powerful and could have given the porsche a run for its money, taking into consideration the traffic conditions of course. The bloody civic driver was weaving in n out of traffic, tailgating the PORSCHE then easing off to lag behind, thendoing this all over again. It was VERY VERY frustrating for all the drivers onthe road i believe. Whoever you are, you young punk in the ugly yellow civic, I believe that one day you will pay your dues and get into a serious serious accident. No insurance will cover you as your engine is totally illegal, and with your uncultured driving, you deserve to end in hefty debts. For anyone from the ROV reading this, its a yellow civic, EG series with altezza lamps. If you wanna race please take it to the tracks.

  21. Some guy's story on his adventure on the autobahn. This guy is crazy.... Yesterday evening I was travelling back home from Koln. A little bit hurring on autobahn doing 190 km/h. There was one interception I passed, I was in the left lane. Suddenly, I saw Porsche going out fast from interception to autobahn. He was ahead me about 60 meters and he decided to change to the right lane. His behaviour was aggressive. Speed difference was about 50 km/h. I pressed on brakes and only now he saw me coming nearer very fast to him - he changed to the right. But still I can't floore my T4 - there was a traffic ahead. It was Boxster (not S). I thought - it have to be the Race! Let's do it! He was sitting on my tail about 5 meters, too close on this speed. We were doing 140 km/h. In several seconds the way was free of traffic and I floored. May be he did't expect it from S40 but the distance in first seconds became lager. So he also floored. He tried to overtake me. The speed went upto 230 km/h. He was behind me about 15 meters. But I have to brake because of the traffic. And so on 3 times up to I turned on my junction. Also on Saturday night I had a crazy race with MB E-Class. I think it was 320. It was 3 o'clock in the night. Autobahn 3 lanes free of traffic. The speed went upto 253 km/h. I feel my T4 can do more. But there is a Revs limiter and on that speed it was 5900.
  22. Porsche celebrates the 50th anniversary of its legendary sports roadster by launching its Spyder special edition The Porsche Boxster is a worthy successor to the legendary 550 Spyder dating from 1953: common to both are the mid-engined roadster concept, low weight, excellent agility, and a high level of driving pleasure. Porsche is now celebrating the 50th birthday of the 550 Spyder by launching a powerful Boxster S special edition limited to 1953 units and bearing the name
  23. http://www.supercars.net/PicFetch?pic=2004_porsche_911_gt2-1.jpg http://www.supercars.net/PicFetch?pic=2004_porsche_911_gt2-2.jpg http://www.supercars.net/PicFetch?pic=2004_porsche_911_gt2-3.jpg Stuttgart. Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, of Stuttgart, Germany has taken a further step forward in its current model offensive. This most powerful version of the 911 now has even higher performance and is the sixth launch this year, following the 911 GT3, Carrera 4S Cabriolet, 911 Turbo Cabriolet, GT3 RS and the 40th anniversary 911 model. The 911 GT2 available when the 2004 model year starts has a power output of 483 bhp (355 kW), an increase of 21 hp (15 kW) on the previous model, making it even more athletic and faster. The GT2 will be available from Porsche Centers from October on. The increase in performance has been achieved by detailed improvements to the electronic engine management maps, yielding an increase of 20 Nm in maximum torque to 640 Nm between 3,500 rpm and 4,500 rpm. With a power-to-weight ratio of 4.06 kilograms per kilowatt, it now takes the rear-wheel drive GT2 only 4 seconds to accelerate from a standstill to 100 km/h and only 12.5 seconds from 0 to 200 km/h. Its maximum speed is 319 km/h, making the GT2 for the 2004 model year 4 km/h faster than its predecessor. Its exhaust emission values are similar to those of the 911 Turbo and it complies easily with the stringent D4 standards. These are equivalent to the EURO 4 standard test limits that will not become mandatory until January 1, 2005. As a matter of course, the GT2 also satisfies the US LEV standard. Extreme sports-car performance was a clear priority when this powerful turbocharged model was developed. This is why, in addition to the power output increase, the front and rear suspension has been optimized as well, with modified springs/shock absorbers and brake system. The car now has even more sensitive four-channel ABS for effective anti-lock braking. The boldly styled, aerodynamically advanced rear wing is available in unpainted carbon fiber upon request. It weighs 2.8 kilograms less and is standard on the Clubsport version. The door mirror housings and air output slats in the front apron panel feature a carbon look as part of this equipment package. The 2004 GT2 generation sets itself apart with the new GT3-style wheels, which are 8.5 inches wide at the front and 12 inches at the rear. They are shod with size 235/40 R 18 tires at the front and 315/30 R 18 at the rear. The new GT2 also comes with the Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake (PCCB) system as standard. The ceramic brake disks weigh 50 percent less than similarly sized metal disks, thus reducing the cars unsprung weight by some 18 kilograms. PCCB disks are available as an optional extra for the 911 Turbo, GT3 (with naturally aspirated engine) and Carrera 4S. The list price for the 911 GT2 will be 159,100 Euro (excluding VAT and country-specific requirements). The selling price to the customer will be 184,674 Euro including VAT in Germany and 191,700 US $ (plus tax) in the US. Story by Dr. Ing. h. c. F. Porsche AG
