  1. i'm a car cam newbie and i've been reading up about the car cam's electrical consumption and it's effect on the car battery. apparently, car battery is built primarily for the purpose of producing a high burst of ampere for cold cranking. it is not designed to be frequently discharged to near or zero charge like in a mobile/laptop battery. doing so will shorten it's life span. the below article from dashcamtalk was very educational for me. i didn't know that setting the car cam power cut-off device to below 12.4V is not a good thing for the car battery. the technician who installed my car cam originally left the cut-off voltage at the default 11.8V as he said it'll give the longest operational time for the car cam. after reading the article, i changed the cut-off voltage to 12.2V which is the highest that the device can do. for you guys who's been using car cam for a long while, what cut-off voltage do you guys set to? do you notice any perceptible shortening of your battery life span for guys who set it below 12V?
  2. I read in the newspaper in Malaysia yesterday that in 6-12 months, Shell stations in Malaysia will be fixed with Euro 5 compliant diesel called V-power Diesel. It means that Singapore TDI cars with Euro 5 standard can pump in Malaysia Shell stations in 1 year time. Look out
  3. Hi all, need some advices from you all out there. I'm driving a 2007 Nissan Latio Premium. Recently I felt my car lost power when accelerate. When picking up that time, the car like no power. But when it reaches 60km/h, it's back to normal. At first I thought is the throttle dirty and had went to my workshop to get it washed. And i had also done my servicing. But after driving for 4 days, the problem back again. Anyone had face this problem before? Would appreciate if someone could help me on this. Thanks.
  4. First, there were fires. Then a ceiling fell in. And on Friday, Jem shopping mall was hit by a power cut which lasted 11 hours. A media statement by Jem said some retailers on the third level and basement one of the Jurong East shopping centre were affected, and that a technical team attended to the power failure immediately. The disruption occurred from around 7am to 6pm, according to Chinese daily Lianhe Zaobao. At least 36 shops on basement one were operating in darkness, said the report. The mall's website lists 60 businesses on that level. At least three shops also put up notices to say that they were going to close earlier because of the power shortage. http://www.straitstimes.com/breaking-news/singapore/story/jem-shopping-mall-jurong-east-hit-11-hour-power-failure-friday-2014032
  5. Just want to share something i found quite amazing this morning, what one stalled lorry can do. for those who was clueless on why you were stuck around clementi for eternity this morning, this may shed some light. 1) going into AYE from clementi ave 6, side by side with a lorry. after both of us waited for a bus to clear the expressway bus lane, i turn into AYE, lorry nv move and saw it on hazard lights. the time was 715am. i thought to myself... hong kan for the traffic later liao... worst timing worst place to happen... 2) after settling my kid at childcare at bouna vista, i need to head back to tuas. i decide to take commonwealth ave west all the way and turn into PIE at clementi ave 6. the time was 820am. 3) traffic from outside singapore poly was building up. abnormal. it then took me 20min to reach only clementi ave 2. damn tulan liao... i was not in a rush, so turn into clementi ave 2 caltex pump petrol, wash car, vacumn and pump air... 4) clementi ave 2, (oppo caltex) towards commonwealth ave west was crazy... jam all the way back to near ulu-panadan, my eyes could not see the end of the jam. the time was nearing 9am. Have to avoid that side of ave 2 to go back to commonwealth ave west, so did a small detour end up at clementi mrt area. from there to entrance of PIE (near nan hua primary school) another 15min. 5) From what my eyes can see, jurong east towards nan hua pri the traffic was endless, PIE to AYE (oppo clementi camp) was endless also... All these was more than 2 hours after the lorry stalled. that, my friends, is what one stalled vehicle can do... thousands late, pollution many many...
  6. will anybody be interested to participate in an Alfa dyno day? just power run, about 20min per car. tentative date will be sometime in late Feb or Mar. cost and venue i will confirm if there is enough interest. FWD should be around $60 (based on a previous one i organised at Uber). AWD i'm not so sure.
  7. I read over at the Amazon thread and thought this should be for discussion here. This is in view of the things we are buying from US via Amazon that uses 110V Voltage. The Wattage is also the key consideration here, on how many WATT step down transformers to use. REad as a guide that one should get 3x the rated power on the device. That is, if the device is 250W, get at least 750W for buffer. I am wondering if this rule of thumb is valid. REason I ask is I just shipped a laser printer and the Wattage is 250W, thus, this is my concern. Any other related issues, please post here for the general public
  8. Bro and Sis, please help to recommend good workshop for reparing Power window of Toyota Estima? The holder that hold the glass have been broken. I have long story with Sparkcarcare with this window repair. It will be 3rd time I send in to assemble nicely for the window since I cancel the repair. The current service agent try to offer me to change the whole glass window with the holders (I need to purchase my v-kool again. Where by the prevous agent mention only change the holder). I verified with Borne Toyota and MBM that I can only change the holder. MBM informs me that there is no stock for the holders but need to wait 2 weeks for purchase. The worst is that Sparkcarcare simply assemble back the window with 3-4 mm gaps open that allow rains to go in between glass and rubber seal. I send in 2nd time in a day to re-allign the window. Today I learn that they broke few clips of side panel and power door cover is loosing that I will send in at 3rd time. They also broke my window visor and agreed to replace tomorrow. I am speechless!!! I never have such problem with them since using the ctr for almost 6 yr for regular oil change since previous accord. I use them since it is the authorised shop for PI estima. The warranty just expired at Mar 13. So bro and sis, is there a better workshop for repairing Estima? MBM is okay? I think that Sparkcarcare may not good in repairing but only servicing oil. I feel scary with Sparkcarcare and wonder if they can continue to perform the repair.
  9. Need advice. This morning when I turn on the car radio, the HU power on/off switch jam (the button sinked inside), can only turn it off by using the remote control. Will the HU still drawing power from the car battery when parked in the car park? I worry that the bettery may die up if the HU is still drawing power from it.

  15. I hope this can become sticky. Here is the procedure if anyone wants to attempt it. It is simple. Bleeding the Power Steering System [ol] If the power steering hydraulic system has been serviced, an accurate fluid level reading cannot be obtained until the air is bled from the system. Follow these steps to bleed the air from the system.[*]Turn the wheels all the way to the left and add the power steering fluid to the MIN mark on the fluid level indicator.Notice : When adding fluid or making a complete fluid change, always use DEXRON

  18. Hello everyone, Found a small reddish oil patch on the car porch tiles this morning. Dropped by workshop during lunch and was told the power steering rack is leaking, an entire replacement unit cost in excess a thousand bucks. As I'm planning to scrap vehicle in 3 months time, mechanic advised me to perform a check every morning and top-up if necessary. Is there any way to plug the leak temporally? Was told leak will get worst over time. More importantly, are there any safety issues to be worried about? Thank you.
  19. Anyone out there using this? Care to share some feedbacks? Salesman say can firm up tummy n lose weight all by standing there for 30min a day! Seems like a good deal for lazy me...
  20. As topic. This morning found out that my car battery is totally flat. Can't even unlock door using remote. My batt is more than 2 yrs but the cranking sounded normal when i last drove it. i normally leave the car camera plugged into the lighter socket, could this be a reason why the batt is totally drained? Or could it be the alternater issue?
