  1. If they want to cut into your lane, do you give way to them? For me it depends on mood. If no signal they can forget it. I rather bang than give way to them. If they signal, then if I good mood just give them some room lor. If not just bo chup. If they think they own the road just because they drive big cars, well too bad for them.... lol...... If they try to fug around with me, they will get fug deep deep in the end......

  6. I am just wondering why premium cars like BMW/Merc etc have such high maintenance cost compared to mainstream brands. Then more exotic ones like Audi S5 or Porsche etc even higher. I am just thinking if these cars are built to be durable and reliable, why is the maintenance so expensive? Even premium engine oils don't cost that much and you don't change oil even 2-3K for such cars right? Of course, one reason is due to premium charges. Eg. agents like PML may charge you $600 or more for a new batt for your BMW but if you know where to get the batt, even a Varta Silver Dynamic batt cost much less than that. Another reason is that such cars may not be actually that reliable...... I have my experience with old BMW e36 and e39 cars. I feel they are not exactly durable compared to Jap cars (of that time). Many parts like radiator, water pump, bushings etc do not have long lifetime. After a certain mileage must change already. I also read that the old Porsche 944 is not exactly reliable and has very high maintenance cost, causing many people to give up their 944s after sometime. thus, if these cars cost alot more than mainstream cars, shouldn't they be more reliable and durable and hence cost less to maintain in the long run?

    Hyundai to go premium

Hyundai Motor group has plans to enter the premium sector currently dominated by Lexus, Audi, BMW and Mercedes. The luxury arm would most likely be called Genesis and include company's current rear-wheel drive offerings such as the Genesis Sedan and Coupe as well as the soon-to-be-launched Equus. The automaker, which saw its U.S. market share increase by an impressive 50 per cent in the past two years, would further enhance the range of the Genesis brand with a compact sports saloon in the likes of the iconic BMW 3-Series, and a crossover utility vehicle to compete with the Lexus RX 350. John Krafcik, president of Hyundai Motor America, told The Wall Street Journal that the company has three branding scenarios under consideration. The first and most likely to happen would be for Hyundai to launch the Genesis as a sub-brand and sell the cars in separate parts of its own showrooms. The other is to follow in the footsteps of Lexus and launch the brand into separate dealerships The final option would be for the company to develop the aforementioned sedan and SUV models but keep the Hyundai branding for the time being. While Hyundai remains open to all options, Mr. Krafcik said that he is most concerned about launching a spin-off brand due to the costs related to the creation of a new network of dealers and that the company would need to make an additional $6,000 in revenue per each car sold by the outlets. There appears to be a lot of enthusiasm among Hyundai dealers in the US, who are almost certain about the creation of the Genesis brand. Although Hyundai
  10. Volvo is set to go mainstream as the company's CEO, Stefan Jacoby, has announced plans to drop their ambitions of becoming a premium automaker. Speaking with AutoCar, Jacoby stated "Let's ditch this talk about premium, it sounds like a pricing strategy and it's got an expensive ring to it." He continued, "We need to focus on elegant Scandinavian simplicity, our own unique identity, and not copy our competitors (Audi, BMW, and Mercedes)." While Jacoby has made previous comments to this effect, Volvo's Chinese owners have publicly stated they want the company to do the exact opposite - build a competitor to the BMW 7-Series / Mercedes S-Class. It seems that the management team at Volvo will have to iron out their differences in deciding the future direction of Volvo. Personally, I would like to see Volvo competing against Volkswagen as the automobile for the

  17. Hi guys, Need your advise. I am paying 1.2K for my car insurance with 20% NCD. Unfortunately few weeks back i had an accident, i was switching lane without seeing car A coming up, car A swayed to one side in order to avoid me, as a result the car A hit another car B. My car was not damaged, my car A was sligtly damaged on the front and car B have it side door dented. I admit i was at fault and made a report within 24 hrs. This is my first accident therefore would like to ask the below questions: 1) iF Car B claim from car A, will both cars becoming claimining from me? 2) Will my car insurance pay in full for both cars if i admit it is my fault? Will i be ask to pay part of their claim? 3) I am paying 1.2K for my car insurance with 20% NCD last year, if my NCD is removed, how much approximate do i need to pay when i am renewing my insurance? Thanks in advance....
  18. Just to check around, did anyone else noticed their premium jumped up significantly this yr? Last yr I paid 570 after deductg 5% COM & inclusive of 50% NCD protector. This yr, for the same coverage, exclude NCD protector it is 670 and 750 if I opt for protector. The only claim that I made last yr was for windscreen. Nt sure was it due to the claim I made. Haiz...if only we cld do away with insurance which is a big conspiracy to me
  19. Last year I got insurance for my 1 year old car, cost me <$500 (50% NCD). This year I ask them how much to renew, they charge me $2000 to renew (50% NCD). Same car, same NCD, no claims or accidents, 1 year older, 4X the premium. Is this happening to all the insurance companies, or isolated case only for this company? Btw, this is a Malaysian insurance company. Time to switch.....
  20. It seems Brisk plugs are becoming very strong performance contenders to Denso, NGK, Bosch, Splitfire and Champion. Essentially, the first ignition design combining E-field concentration and surface ionisation using confined electrode exposure and more effective arcing over insulated E-field plane without the usual electrode obstruction to fuel mixture. More layman terms are given www.briskusa.com/advantages.htm#unique Imagine performance improvement just with this plug is reportedly measurable by several independent auto community www.briskusa.com/test_results02_europe.htm www.briskusa.com/test_results05_universal.htm www.briskusa.com/test_results06_strickly.htm Those looking for equiv replacement might want to refer here www.briskusa.com/cross_reference01.htm And those who believe in more competitive pricing from the global sources (no offence to local retailers) can try at http://stores.ebay.co.uk/MotorPlaza http://www.eurosportacc.com/performance_sp...bosch_brisk.htm http://search.ebay.com.sg/_W0QQsassZjames-brisk Go for LGS (not the Nology wannabe conventional plug) if you want clear improvement over Denso and NGK iridium. LGS is probbaly better than its ZC/ZS/TXS/YS series and costs only about GBP7.5, USD12 or AUD20 each overseas. LGS has a lavish silver centre electrode of nology, 4 earth electrodes sharper than multi-electrode Bosch/Splitfire and a circumferential insulation almost to the silver rod tip. What's new in the design is its highest intensity surface discharge at the locality of richest mixture over the 360 deg perimeter. Exposing directly to the fuel mixture will be the long glide spark, for past decades racers tried to achieve with bigger gap and stronger ignition coil. This can never be realised fully with most conventional plug obstructed by its own earth electrode or the less effective free-space discharge of multi-electrode Bosch/Splitfire. What's detering the intense firing will only be left to a mediocre ignition coil (and wire), an alternator wanting better stabilisation or a weaken battery. If this plug really produces intense spark, can't expect longer life than iridium considering the wear sustained from the almost continuous arcing bombardment. Perhaps, the performance improvement, lesser acceleration wear, potential FC savings translated to cleaner engine and oil might put its relatively shorter life of 20k-40k from its most conductive silver electrode a non-issue.
  21. AN EXPECTED rebound in demand for premium cars as the economy recovers has not materialised. In fact, some distributors of high-end makes say that the market has softened instead. 'When the good news about the global economy began trickling in from July and August, we expected demand to strengthen and the momentum to build up,' said the boss of a small luxury dealership. 'But that didn't carry through to the end of the year.' In fact, the last three or four months of this year were unusually quiet. Together with a cut in the number of certificates of entitlement available, the overall luxury segment shrank every quarter in 2009 compared with a year earlier. This segment includes Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Audi, Porsche, Jaguar, Volvo and Mini but excludes super luxury brands such as Lamborghini, Ferrari and Bentley. New car registrations in Q3 this year numbered 2,315 - down 17.3 per cent from Q3 2008. Quarterly registrations are taken to even out any stock and delivery fluctuations. 'Sales of most luxury brands are trending down. They are definitely not as strong as in the middle of this year,' said the general manager of a mid-size luxury dealership. The overall market is expected to shrink more than a quarter as a result of the cut in the COE quota, and only a couple of premium makes will be in positive territory. One of them is Audi, whose aggressive marketing efforts and strong model line-up have reaped dividends. 'We have achieved our target and will have a 9 per cent increase year on year to about 1,420 to 1,450 cars in 2009,' said Audi Singapore managing director Reinhold Carl. 'We have had quarterly increases this year. Only January was a very poor month because that was the depth of the crisis.' Mr Carl said that demand for Audi cars remains high and delivery times for some popular models have stretched until March. 'We have nothing to complain about,' he said with a laugh. But sales of other premium brands could drop more than the market average. For some, only their cheaper entry-level models are currently doing any business. 'The low-end is okay, but the high-end has come to a stop - unless you have a new product,' said the sales manager of a popular luxury brand. 'It is the same with expensive watches. It's like someone pulled the hand-brake in November.' He blamed this largely on the absence of a year-end bonus for civil servants. 'The general public takes the cue from there. Suddenly, reality sets in,' he said. 'You may be in senior management but you realise there is not going to be any extra money to spend, so you are not in a mood to buy. You are not poor, but you are feeling poor, so you pull back.' But since the bonus announcement was relatively recent, a sportscar distributor reckons that the poor sentiment is a result of economic uncertainty. And a lack of confidence isn't conducive to the purchase of high-end products, which are often impulse buys. 'Many of my customers are businessmen who own SMEs,' said the distributor. 'If the general market is not doing well, then they are not doing well - and so they won't be buying a new car. There is a knock-on effect.' But one interesting result of the bad economy this year is that more people seem to be going away on holiday. 'Some people tell me they have given up on 2009 and just want to get it over with,' said the distributor. 'So this December, it seems that fewer are chasing targets for better year-end results - and more are taking a break.' As for when he expects the slump to end for the luxury business, he said: 'The government says the economy will grow 5 per cent next year, but unless your company announces a salary increment, it won't make you more confident. I think this segment will be affected until at least Q1 next year.' source http://motoring.asiaone.com/Motoring/News/...226-188115.html
