  1. Singapore Airlines & SilkAir are raising their fuel surcharges again - to between US$4 and US$38 for return flights. This will take effect for tickets issued on or after Tuesday. The last increase took place on Oct 24. http://www.straitstimes.com/Free/Story/STIStory_181868.html
  2. I was quoted $280/rim for Magline 16" rim and + $195/tire for Michelin MVX8 by a tyre shop. The trade in value for my 15" is $600. Is this worth it?
  3. I have been monitoring the used car price since 2013 for a particular model. Based on all same specification (OMV avg to be about 35k) In 2014 October, I saw a 2008 Aug model going for $59,800 Just when I intend to buy the car when it was April 2015 (because I wanted to drive my car till 10 years), the same model 2008 Aug model was going for $68,800. I had to settle for a older model as I felt the asking price was too high. My yearly depreciation calculated to be 11k which is consider a good deal now. Now July 2015, same model Nov 2008 registered going for $69,800. All 3 time zone based on Cat B COE of 70k to 75k. Is it because of the new CEVs regulation that make used cars to be more "valuable"? For people who in need a car, like my father, might not even able to afford to buy a basic proper car now. FYI, my father bought a used 2.0 Korean car in 2013 Nov, paid 40% deposit and monthly of $474.00 instalment for 29 months. I find that the car price in used car market is rubbish. I know, take it or leave it. No cheap cars at all in the next 3 years at least.
  4. Hi guys. Need some quick advice. Got a wedding anniversary coming up. Thinking of buying my wife something nice. Maybe a Bottega bag or something. Is it significantly cheaper at Changi airport ? Was thinking I could get it at dfs since I got a trip to hongkong later this month. If not then I just get from ion later
  5. Anyone knows what's the parking rates at Paya Lebar Square on weekdays? It still isn't listed on sgcarmart.
  6. Hi, Bros I need your recommendation for an good deal for ply wood cutting for my panel van floor board (Especially to have 2 x rectangle boxes to cover the rear wheel arches)
  7. The prices for the 3 flavours of long-waited Sony Xperia Tablet Z has just been revealed by HWZ Singapore. And it is very disappointing to say the least. Sony Singapore prices with 7% GST: LTE with 16GB - S$988.00 Wifi with 32GB - S$788.00 Wifi with 16GB - S$688.00 LTE premium over wifi=S$300 or 44% Sony Australia prices: LTE with 16GB - S$826.00 Wifi with 32GB - S$790.00 Wifi with 16GB - S$656.00 LTE premium over wifi=S$170 or 26% Sony UK prices with 20% VAT: LTE with 16GB - S$957.00 Wifi with 32GB - S$861.00 Wifi with 16GB - S$765.00 LTE premium over wifi=S$192 or 25% What does the above tell you? I do not understand why the LTE version here is charged so much more than the wifi version. The LTE chipset use here cost more to make? Or the LTE version here is so much better than the wifi version thus the bigger premium? Or Sony Singapore think we are suckers that we will willingly pay whatever amount they dictate since we are LTE-siao? I have sold off my tablets in anticipation of this tablet but now I am going to give it a miss if the prices indeed hold true. I will gladly get 2 sets of Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 for myself and wife instead. Can somebody who has link with Sony Singapore bring this up with its management that we are not carrot heads? Very disgusted.
  8. Hey guys. When making a car purchase decision, I believe in doing research online first before heading down to do the test drive. So specs on paper will determine what goes into my shortlist. I realise that sgcarmart shows the bhp for used cars. Problem is, I do not know which models to start off with. I'm looking more at semi-luxury used cars. Like Camry, C-class kinda range. Which are the models with high bhp : price ratio Please advise.
  9. ..flashy title aside...let's share reasons why you decided to buy ("get intimate") the car ("precious") you bought? Tell us what car you bought, when and price. Also give your shortlisted cars before decided on the one. (Poll) Did you get intimate by.. - fall in love at first sight (die die must get that car) - dream girl (everything also want and value for money too) - maid servant (liking not important but must do chores well like bringing barang/kids/dogs etc) - tikam tikam (don't care as long as it is 4 wheel as feed-up taking public transport) - bimbo-like (I want my neighbours to pull their hair out with envy seeing my car) - a good wife (must be cheap to operate and maintain)
  10. Hi, Hoping to get some advise from the seniors here, I am looking for SUV tyres with the following set up - 235 /55/R19 - A fair balance between reliability and cost Any recommendations? TIA
  11. http://www.sgcarmart.com/used_cars/info.php?ID=456797&DL=1027 Was looking at this car. Price was $29,000 when status was available. After status set to pending as buyer paid a deposit, price increased to $37,000??? Is this an example of overtrade?

  14. I think Chee Cheong Fun is still going strong. Quite a standard of me when going for dim sum. Last time have this whitish coconut cake.
  15. I looking into buying lv bags in malaysia as currently our currency is strong and exchange rate is better but i has not racky the pricing of lv in malaysia yet. Anyone bought this stuff in malaysia care to share the opinion compare to buying in singapore?
  16. Had a go at the cold crab a few days ago. The last visit was a couple of years back. I honestly couldn't remember the price and did not bother to check on the Internet hence I was very surprised when I was charged $80 for 2 cold crabs! It is pretty good (with the chilli) if you disregard price but I definitely will not visit again.

  18. Not v experienced on used car, so want some advice. What is a reasonable price to pay for an 08 Mazda 5, presuming car is in good condition? I see sgcarmart sells around 60k but not sure if this is fair price. Roughly how would you calculate price?
  19. http://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/singapore/hdb-resale-prices-fall-to/1251928.html Do you think will fall further or now is the best time to get resale?
  20. I was watching a particular car selling for $88,000 many months ago and still not able to sell. COE increased and his price went up to $95,000. I think this used car dealer either not hard up for business or he is doing extremely well. Whenever news interview the car association spokesman, he looked very sad and urge garment to loosen the loan regulation. When COE is low, he talked very confidently and keep urging the public to buy cars before the COE go beyond the $50,000 mark. Never did he predict garment to tighten on the loan. My family affected by the regulations but come to think of it, it is good for everyone in the long run.
  21. Hi all its that time of year when my hands itch fer that new HD or UHD Tv at the IT shows but I resisted temptation as there is nothing wrong with my 7yr old FHD TV and I also thought I share some open secrets with the bros here. You guys probably know this already but do share your thoughts. High Product Obsolence and Low Inventory Turn over are the greatest nightmare for retailers and manufacturers. They directly translate to higher Stowage Costs, Higher Depreciation Costs and Higher Financing Costs on a daily basis. Right now its especially bad because there has been a substantive milestone technology leap when we see UHDs making the entrance into the mass market. In the past, to offset the above costs, manufacturers can write-off and "scrap" old 1080p panels instead of selling them at a 50-75% mark down. The reason for doing this is that I) they do not erode the price of existing models, and ii) at least 50% of the panel can be re-used and repackaged in a new FHD TV. E.g. they simply stick in wifi and better processors etc to convert the panel to a SMRT 3D TV for relaunch. This option is fast running out for manufacturers with the entry of UHDs mainly because the TV Panel (which is the most expensive part of the TV) in a FHD TV cannot be re-used in a UHD TV. So there is now a huge build up (over 12-24 months) of old FHD TVs which are gathering dust in stowage all over asia. Analyst have valued these obsolete panels at scrap value but retailers continue to try to sell them at "current retail price". Retailers get away with this because of market imperfections and indirect collusion amongst all the major brands (Korean and Japanese alike) not to drop price. This does not make economic sense as it costs the retailers more, to stow these obsolete panels, than to release them even at a 50-75% mark down. Basically as a rough gauge any FHD panel you see out there is obsolete given the UHD's entry into the market and the "real value" is at least 50%-75% off retail. For the moment there is still a case to be made for buying a non UHD (or FHD) TV due to general lack of 4k content. But this case is diminished as we see UHD panels approaching the price of FHD panels and it is very very glaring to see both in the same price range. There are of cause exceptions to the general rule (like Oled Curved TVs). Toshiba recently launched a 58" UHD TV at below $3,888/- but it was a dismal failure as the picture quality of the panel was even more inferior than that of a good FHD TV. The moral of the story being that more pixels do not necessarily mean a better panel and better picture quality. But these cases are rare exceptions and by and large the market will continue to see good quality UHDs approaching the price of FHD TVs due to economies of scale. Any way I am sure most of the bros here already know this. For me anyway, everytime I see a FHD TV now I will discount the retail price by 50%-75% and mentally value this with the mark down. Happy shopping and pls share your comments as usual :)
  22. Thats how we lost our soul ..... yahoo news : Global Price Comparison: The Toyota Corolla Global Price Index Singapore - Earlier in March it was reported in The Economist that Singapore is the most expensive city in the world. The news didn't exactly come as a big surprise, with both property prices and car prices rising even further in 2013, the latter as a result of high Certificate of Entitlement (COE) prices and increased Additional Registration Fee (tax) on expensive cars. But just how much more costly is it to own a car in Singapore? The Economist has had its own Big Mac Index around for some time now, so we decided to scour the Internet and assemble our own automotive version. The car we used was a natural choice: The world's best-selling nameplate, with more than 40-million units shifted globally, and the closest thing to an automotive white good there is - the Toyota Corolla Altis. With the launch of the new model globally, and it's now the same model sold everywhere else, it's the perfect choice for a study like this. Earlier in the year another Yahoo story did something broadly similar, but our Toyota Corolla Global Price Index (TCGPI) compares the same good across borders with a much wider scope. Toyota Corolla Global Price Index** Country/ Variant /Trim /Local Price SGD Price Australia 1.8L 7CVT ‘Ascent 4D’ A$25,812 - $30,143.51 Brazil 1.8l 4AT ? It's enough to buy you a lovely Mercedes-Benz CLS 63 AMG 4MATIC, or half of an SLS AMG Coupe, in the cheapest market, the USA. read more, link: https://sg.news.yahoo.com/global-price-comparison-toyota-corolla-171720950.html

  24. A new range of diesel-powered, less powerful luxury cars is gaining traction with buyers amid a re-categorisation of the Certificates of Entitlement (COEs). This is due to cheaper diesel and maintenance, as well as low-emission rebates. But experts said the trend may defeat the purpose of the COE changes. Experts said the new range of diesel-powered cars provides buyers with a less powerful alternative under Category A. But they said Category A cars were meant for more affordable, mass market options. Professor Lee Der Horng from National University of Singapore’s Department of Environmental and Civil Engineering said: "If somehow we are not able to achieve this policy goal, then I would say the consumer may still face the same situation that we have already experienced in 2013, which means Cat A COE may still be vibrant and the price may still keep climbing." New rules that kicked in on Saturday saw small cars with powerful engines moved to Category B of the COE system. Previously, cars with engine capacities of 1,600cc and below were placed in Category A regardless of engine power. 25. yahoo report : Malaysia has lost right to review water price, says Singapore Minister – Bernama When Malaysia decided not to review the water price under the Water Agreement in 1987, it lost its right to review the price, says Singapore Minister for Foreign Affairs K. Shanmugam. "Singapore’s position is that Malaysia has lost its right to review the water price. The Water Agreement provided for the review after 25 years. Specifically, there was a right to review the price of water jointly in 1987. "However, Malaysia consciously chose not to review the price. It had good reasons for this," he said this in reply to a Parliamentary question today. Ellen Lee of Sembawang GRC, had asked the minister whether Malaysia had the right to review the price of raw water sold to Singapore under the bilateral water agreement at any time before its expiry in 2061. Shanmugam said Singapore had stated its position on the issue and also conveyed it officially to the Malaysian Government on several occasions. "Our position on this issue is well-known to Malaysia. We have stated this publicly, and also conveyed it to the Malaysian Government, including at the highest levels. The Malaysian Government understands the position," he said. He quoted Malaysia's Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Anifah Aman as saying on February 17, this year: “An agreement is an agreement. When there is an agreement, we will honour the agreement. "If there is any need for review, we will forward it and if their response is positive, we will start talking." Shanmugam said that had Malaysia exercised the right to review the water price in 1987, Singapore might then have made different investment decisions to develop the Johor River, for instance the Linggiu Dam project of 1990. In the event, he said Malaysia chose not to review the water price in 1987, and on that basis, Singapore then took several actions, which also benefitted Malaysia. He said this included building the Linggiu Dam at a cost of over S$300 million (RM773 million), which increased the yield of the Johor River and enabled both Johor and Singapore to draw water from it during the dry season. Indeed, neither party can unilaterally change any of the terms of the 1962 Water Agreement. Shanmugam said Malaysia benefitted greatly from the current pricing arrangement. "We enjoy good relations with Malaysia at all levels. We will continue to work to enhance our cooperation and friendship with Malaysia, in order to benefit both our peoples," he added. – Bernama, March 6, 2014. link: http://sg.news.yahoo.com/malaysia-lost-review-water-price-says-singapore-minister-161152546.html We build a S$300 million dam for MY ...
