  1. http://www.straitstimes.com/Breaking%2BNew...ory_424538.html HDB resale flat prices - already at record high levels - are likely to continue rising this year, said National Development Minister Mah Bow Tan on Wednesday. 'The flat prices would probably go up ... by 1 per cent, 2 per cent,' said Mr Mah. 'It will just keep on going up if the economy recovers as people expect, and if confidence returns but affordability will always be there.' HDB resale prices rose 1.4 per cent in the second quarter to a record high. Resale flat prices go up in tandem with a very strong market, Mr Mah told reporters at the launch of the final skybridge at The Pinnacle@Duxton on Wednesday. 'We subsidised you when you buy and we increased the value of your flat when you live in it and... facilitate you to monetise it when you grow old. This is the best form of investment and welfare for the people,' said the minister. Standing at 50 storeys, The Pinnacle@Duxton is Singapore's tallest public housing development. It sits on the site of the area's first two HDB blocks, which were built 50 years ago. It was the first project in which an international architectural competition was called to get the best design ideas.
  2. SINGAPORE: Prices at the fuel pumps have come down on Wednesday, just a day after it went up. ExxonMobil is the latest to lower prices, with all grades of petrol and diesel going down by 2 cents a litre from 5.30pm. Caltex, which led the increase on Tuesday, also reduced prices across the board at 4.30pm, in response to what it calls, "competitive local conditions". Pump prices are now down by 2 cents a litre, after going up 5 cents on Tuesday. The latest adjustment followed a move by Shell. Shell raised its prices by 2 cents a litre at 2.30pm on Wednesday after choosing to stay on the sidelines on Tuesday. 95 grade fuel now costs S$1.847 a litre, 98 grade fuel costs S$1.98 a litre, while diesel costs S$1.323. http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/sin...1000997/1/.html
  3. As above, seems to have gone up 4 or 5cts (cannot remember). I pumped yesterday. Seems they celebrate a podium finish by raising the prices on us.
  4. Any Bros know where to voice out. I know its pretty useless 2 vent grudges here. But I really tink it's ridiculous. 2 months back i tink when raise from 60 to 70 the cartel jump 3 times. When fall back to 60 per barrel took them almost 3 weeks to drop. With barrel prices going up, they take less than 3 days to hike again.
  5. Recession? what recession. Condos were sold within days, stock market hits record high in 10 months. Guess Sg economy will recover positively in this year. But i start to worry about those who needs to buy a decent HDB flat to get married, they are ridiculously high for new couples. i do see more newly wed couples to stay with their old folks for a longer period of time. News for ST today. PRICES of Housing Board flats have reached a historical record, rising 1.4 per cent in the second quarter this year, reversing a first-quarter dip of 0.8 per cent. Fresh data released from the HDB on Friday shows the resale price index rising to 140.2 - beating the previous record set in the fourth quarter of last year when it hit just over 139. The figures have come in slightly higher than flash estimates released earlier this month which showed that prices rose 1.2 per cent. Sales of HDB resale flats also surged 58 per cent, reflecting improved market sentiment, to reach 10,184 transactions in the second quarter, compared to 6,446 in the first quarter. Year on year, second quarter sales rose 31 per cent compared to the 7,763 units sold in the same period last year. Analysts attribute the healthy sales volume to the economic outlook which has grown more optimistic in the second quarter. Industry observers also noted that resale flats were popular as the cash needed upfront, or cash-over-valuation (COV), to buy a resale flat was low or approached zero. Friday's HDB data showed that the median COV continued to decline, falling to $3,000 in the second quarter, compared to $4,000 in the first quarter. The number of flats which sold above valuation also declined from 62 per cent of all transactions in the first quarter, to 57 per cent in the second quarter. The remaining 43 per cent was sold at or below valuation, said HDB. Meanwhile, rental rates for HDB flats did not register drastic movements. Median sublet rents for two-room and five-roomer flats for the second quarter stayed the same, but fell by $100 for three room, four room and executive flats. Rental transactions increased by 9.6 per cent to 3,862 cases in second quarter compared to the first quarter. But compared to the same period last year, it fell by 6.3 per cent. The total number of HDB flats approved for subletting rose to about 23,200 units as at second quarter, compared to 22,800 units in the first quarter.
  6. I am kind of curious about the new stretegy of HDB in increasing valuation and reducing supply which helped the HDB prices to stabilize in the middle of one of the WORST recession in recent memory. Is this a "good" thing??? Kind of curious how fellow singaporeans feel about this new approach of the hdb? They THINK it will make hdb owners happy but I think they have miscalculated as mass market condo people also want a part of the pie and will quickly raise there prices as well. So instead of selling your hdb for 350k, u sell it for 400k but your new condo cost like 800k instead of 700k. The WORST off is the new couples without property. The BEST off is those retired people who intends to sell their big property and downgrade. Lucky I bought a condo already 8 years back so I am not that badly hit. Although this new policy makes the idea of migrating to Australia more tempting. Personally, I think this will just make most people unhappy in the end as wages is going down, while housing cost is shooting up....

  12. June 10, 2009 Oil prices hit 2009 high SINGAPORE - OIL prices soared above US$71 (S$103) a barrel on Wednesday in Asia, reaching a 2009 high, as investors poured money into the commodity as a hedge against a weakening US dollar and inflation. Benchmark crude for July delivery was up US$1.41 at US$71.42 a barrel by late afternoon Singapore time in electronic trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange. On Tuesday, it jumped US$1.92 to close at US$70.01. Oil has jumped more than 100 per cent in three months as traders have cheered news showing the worst of a severe US recession is likely over, and have brushed off data - such as a 9.4 per cent unemployment rate in May - that suggest crude demand will remain weak. 'I wouldn't be surprised if we're testing US$80 in a week or two,' said Mr Gerard Rigby, energy analyst with Fuel First Consulting in Sydney. 'The momentum right now is too strong.' A weaker US dollar and expectations massive fiscal stimulus spending could spark inflation have also bolstered prices. The euro was steady at US$1.4073. The Energy Department's Energy Information Administration said on Tuesday that crude prices will likely average US$67 a barrel in the second half of 2009, about US$16 higher than the first six months of the year. A month ago, the EIA's price-per-barrel forecast for the second half of 2009 was US$55. The Energy Department also said global consumption of oil, which has fallen by nearly 2 million barrels per day this year, will begin to rebound in 2010 as the economy recovers. Wednesday's release of petroleum inventory data from the EIA could provide additional insight about crude demand. Analysts expect a rise of 800,000 barrels. In other Nymex trading, gasoline for July delivery rose 2.11 cents to US$1.99 a gallon and heating oil gained 2.58 cents to US$1.83. Natural gas for July delivery was up 6.3 cents at US$3.80 per 1,000 cubic feet. In London, Brent prices gained US$1.25 to US$70.87 a barrel on the ICE Futures exchange. -- AP
  13. I wanted to change batteries for my wife's car, and decided on AA. I was shocked out of my skin when I was quoted $153 for a 45mAH Amron maintenance free battery. Has prices soared? 4 yrs ago, I got it for $90. Any recommendation of "trustworthy" battery shop in the West region?

    Properties prices

the current property market is weird.... seller selling at the price they want. buyer wants to buy seller's price minus x. bank says seller's price minus x is still higher than valuation so bank only lend buyer's price minus x minus y. end up buyer not willing to buy... it goes round and round end up no one moves. how would the market turn around like that?? all die together at the end off the day! there's a long long road in the gloomy weather and no light seen at the end of the tunnel.
  15. http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/sin.../410356/1/.html SINGAPORE: Pump prices in Singapore have gone down for a second day in a row. But this time, only diesel and higher grades of petrol are affected. Shell was the first to revise prices downwards by 4 cents for its 98-grade petrol, V-Power and diesel at 3pm on Friday. Caltex, Esso and SPC followed suit shortly after. Pump prices for diesel and all grades of petrol dipped by 3 cents on Thursday. Dono what are they trying to proof now, encourage user to pump higher grade fuel now?

  17. Hi all, Just wondering if it is a good time to upgrade car now, since prices are so cheap... Thinking of buying 3 series now.. PML quoted me $108k only for 320i... with 2.8% interest loan. Seems that prices really dropped so much.. Considering my sis's 523i cost about $200k 3.5 years ago... But don't know if prices will drop further? I will lose about $10k if I sell my current car.. Either that, I may consider keeping my current car and buy another 1.. Any wise opinion? Before I go down to PML with my cheque book.. Thanks!!! Cheers

  23. just wondering out loud. with the COE plunging and the car demand definitely going south, i wonder what will the car prices be this year? will, e.g. a Honda City drop to 40K? cos from sgcarmart, with the previous month COE at about 5K (i think) BM is selling the Altis at ~56K, and that is higher than my dad's Altis 3 years back when the COE is 12K... of cos there are other factors to consider like shipping cost etc... govt had already forecast a slump of about -5% in the economy i'm looking to see how exactly the distributors can bring people back to the showroom to be even interested in their products, which will be seen as a luxury more than a necessity during these times.. cheers

  25. Hi all, lately, I went to a neighbourhood saloon to cut hair. I was told they have increased their haircut price by $3? I asked why? they told me politely that boss said recession and everything have risen in cost . Next, went over next door kopi thiam to have laksa, they have increase their price by another $0.50. I asked them recently price already increased but why again? They told me their supplies are getting expensive so have to raise price . What the heck is going on? I thought recession means price cutting to attract customers ? Can someone tell me why? Regards,
