Dear all, Pardon and please indulge me if the thread has been posted(did try searching with no result). Presently driving an Octavia Classic from Dec 2002 and below are the issues I have encountered during these period. The purpose of this thread is to try and understand the made quality of this car, so that we know and can appreciate the car better. Kindly add on the problems and issues encounter. 2. Kindly comment and stick to the topic. Thanks. My goodness, was a little upset to understand the build quality. Got this from the website. http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/index.php?url=...bycar/index.htm Recall- 2000: LXi models built May '98 to Jan '99: incorrect ABS servo fitted could lead to brakes locking up. 25/6/2001: Fuel tank may leak. Check for leaks and replace tank where necessary. 2001: On Octavia 4x4s built up to March 2000, the bottom rear hub carrier ball joint can corrode and seize, leading to the lower suspension arms snapping at the hub ends. 10/5/2002: 2,995 Octavias recalled because electrical fault in ABS ECU could cause overheating, possibly even leading to fire damage. 31/3/2003: VINS TMB***1U*32665031 to TNB***1U*32675256 and TNB***1U*38665036 to TMB***1U*38667146 rar window wiper may loosen during high speed driving causing it to break off. Replace wiper arm and blace. 26/3/2003: VINS TMB***1U*X2148718 to TMB***1U*X22227663 and TMB***1UY2285279 to TMB***1UY2294866: Due to a manufacturing fault, tension cracks may occur on the vacuum pipe to the brake servo in the area of the pipe connections. If a vacuum pipe leaks the brake servo loses its function requiring a lot more force on the brake pedal to stop. Check vacuum pipes and replace if necessary.
  3. Hi all, Anyone encounter problems with these 2 vehicle so far???? Heard Vios have lots of problem??
  4. Hi people I am kind of new to car audio and have faced several problems and felt that my money spent on my system is not up to standard... I am currently driving a 2006 Volvo s40 and the HU cannot be changed... thus I have to use a hi-low adapter tap from the original Volvo speaker cable to convert to RCA for my amp... I have installed the following components and how it is being run to my speakers. 1 Nakamichi PA-2004 four channel amp bridge to two channel for my front speaker which is Boston acoustic pro 60 component 1 Nakamichi PA-2002 two channel amp for my rear speaker which is Nakamichi sp-s6500 component 1 Nakamichi PA-2004 four channel amp bridge to two channels for my two Nakamichi 10" sp-w1000d subwoofer. Currently I am facing two problems... 1. My front imaging is lost from the original Volvo speaker... now my pro60 sound very separated and no frontal image. 2. No matter how I tune the phase for my woofer on the amp I still can hear the woofer is clearly coming from the back... again no front imaging of the bass... All component speaker is being installed in the factory location of my volvo which front and rear originally was componet... My installer tells me I need to get a pre-amp (either an active x-over or an equalizer) which I have yet gotten... I would like to hear some expert opinion before purchasing anymore equipment as I have already over spend on my equipment listed here... I was thinking if it was the hi-low adapter being used by my installer is not a good quality one and changing the adapter will improve the sound staging... Would really appreciate all you brothers at the forum's help here...
  5. Went down to paya ubi on tuesday, saw a guy fixing up bodykit for his new civic, talk to him for a while and he mentioned something to me aboput his the problems he encountered when he changed his stock rims to a set of 17" rims. He told me that when he changed his rims, the settings or offset wasn't done properly and as a result, the rims grinded the fuel pipe guard and created a hole, almost hit his fuel pipe. If u stick your hand behind the wheel, will realised that the clearance is realy very limited. He asked whether if i had any solutions, i was clueless about wat to do. Just wanted to share this info with everyone, and check if anybody has any solution to this? the owner actually suggested about custom make a aluminium guard or something and have it riveted on, anyone has any better ideas? Will adding spacers help the problem? Anyway, i think he solved the problem after he brought it back to the garage to have the settings changed. I'm not very proficient with cars yet, so pls pardon any ignorance.
  6. hi, i bought my optra 1.6 in May 05. now at 8k already. the problem now is with the rpm. in a few occasions, when the speed is around 80 km/h and i let go of the accelerator, the rpm will move up and down a few times between 2 and 1.3. i don't think that is normal. also, on a few occasion and getting more often now, the rpm will stay at 1.5 for a few minutes when i let go of the accelerator and even when the car is on neutral. sometime the accelerator pedal would feel stiff and not smooth. if i press a little harder, the accelerator will jump from 1.1 to 2 straight and hard to maintain at 1.7 which the car speed at around 40-50km/hr. anyone know what is wrong? i brought the car to the dealer and they say there is nothing wrong with the car. they detected some errors with the computer error detection system. reset the system and the car will be ok for a few days and the problem would re-surface. anyone can help. thanks also, anyone know how to make sure complain to GM? have been very disappointed with the car.
  7. Just recently, my wife drove the car and she did some adjustments to the car (not sure what), but now, I can only play CDs. The Radio does not have any output. The remote antenna still comes up, and when I do a scan, the frequencies can still be found. Did something short circuit a wire when she moved the car or hit something beneath the dash (she said that she adjusted the seat all the way back ... and that's where I have an amplifier - I'm guessing that it's possible that she snagged a wire when she did that.) Anyone has a clue to what is wrong? Could the head unit just spoil like that?
  8. ok i have minor problems on my '01 octy. 1. the cigarette box compartment doesn't latch anymore. dosn't lock to close. a bit difficult to troubleshoot as can't see the levers in the interior after removing box. is there a spring prone to falling off? 2. the knob meant to adjust front seats incline/recline. the plastic knob fell off leaving the metal gear it sits on. its plastic to metal, quite some force used to twist.. how to secure?
  9. Hi, Was wondering if anyone else having the same problems with their Aveos: 1) Door rattling sound, came around 2 weeks after I collected my car; 2) Right rear passenger door cannot close properly (Agent told me all Aveo cars are like that!) 3) My CD changer just gave up! **latest**
  10. 1. My auto jazz when engaging R gear, i can hear a loud idling sound. When checked with Kah motor, they say its happening to all jazz cars. Is it true??? 2. My key remote is not responding some time, and the distant is pretty near. I only can lock or unlock about 5m away only. So bad meh? My friend's Getz can take more than 10m !! 3. My fuel consumption is about 13KM/L. Is it normal for light footer driving about 50-50 city and highway? 4. I just broke up with my gf.. ( I know its out of scope ) All happens today...

  13. Straits Times, 3 March 2005 GENEVA - BMW chief executive Helmut Panke has admitted that quality at the German luxury carmaker is failing to meet its expectations, and has pledged to regain a position in the top three most reliable manufacturers. German carmakers, once renowned for their high quality, have seen their cars become more prone to breakdowns as the electronic systems used in cars grow increasingly complicated, with Mercedes particularly badly affected. However, BMW has also seen its reputation slide and was last year ranked 13th among 37 manufacturers for reliability and 12th for initial quality, in an influential study by JD Power. 'I admit that we're not where we want to be,' Dr Panke said in an interview. 'We need to be in the top three for both quality and reliability. Position number eight or nine is not good enough.' But he added that improving that position was not a strategic goal. BMW's 7-series was last year ranked as the worst European car for reliability by Consumer Reports in the United States. Asian carmakers dominate the reliability stakes with Lexus at the head, but mass-market models such as Hyundai rank higher than BMW or Mercedes, which fell to 28th place. Dr Panke said he expected Lexus, made by Toyota, to grow increasingly aggressive in Europe as it tried to break into the market. His comments came as BMW unveiled the latest two models as part of an ambitious programme to branch out from its traditional three products, the 3-, 5- and 7-series. He told a press conference that BMW would develop a multi-purpose vehicle, or what many see as a people carrier, as well as a surprise new model. This would combine the appeal of a coupe with the raised seating position more associated with sports utility vehicles. BMW officials admitted the announcement would come as a surprise but said it was designed to show investors that the company's model offensive had not ground to a halt after the recent launches of its 6-series coupe, 1-series hatchback and Z4 convertible. -- FINANCIAL TIMES
  14. Just got an old nissan march and having some problems. firstly, the engine has a very high rpm when idle.. rpm is very close to 1. is that normal ? secondly, the meter always stats cold.. is that my engine ? the needle shows it all the way down to C... i understand that most cars should have their needle of temperature pointing to the centre ? help please.
  15. Has anyone had the same problem before... I had this trouble with my barely 1 week old WRX during the heavy downpour. The remote refused to work and i had to use the key to open the doors. I tried the remote again after running the engine for about 2 minutes and then it worked fine again. I spoke to my SE who said that it appears to be quite common during cold weather. I dont quite buy his explanation. Anyone else has had/ is having a similar problem? P/S: I spotted a black WRX in Tampines last week. Car plate SFP 61XX. Just to let you know that both of your rear lights are not working. Not too sure if you have realised it...
  16. Hi. Is there a list of known problems for optra that we can compile so that we can check against? Will be good if the symptoms are listed too. By the way, when pumping in petrol, surprisingly, my fuel gauge did not even hit full when auto-stop. Wonder why? Coz my previous ride on auto-stop, the needle go way above full. Also, my car has the tendency to move to left and there is the need to pull to the right to keep within my lane. Any comments?
  17. Greetings to all fellow Altis owners, Just checking with you guys again. My car got 2 annoyance which I am very unhappy with. Service engineers claim that it's normal so I just want to check if it really is common in all Altises. 1. Foul Aircon Smell - This I understand is "normal"... but anyway to get rid of it permanently? 2. Loud ticking sound from undercarriage after driving - Exiting my park vehicle after driving I can hear like metalic sound ticking from the undercarriage. Something to do with the thermal contraction from the metal parts under the car as the Service Engineer claimed. Do your cars have similar issues too?

  19. My car has this problem once in a while... In first gear, move off from stationary. When engaging second gear, when the gear lever is about to slip into the 2nd gear notch, the gear teeth rattle as if they didn't mesh properly. Return to neutral, gear in to 2nd again and it was smooth. All this while the clutch pedal is fully depressed to the floorboard. The funny thing is this only happens once in a blue moon, and happens mostly when the car is negotiating a turn. Of the 1 year I've owned the car (secondhand), it happened about 6 times. And each time I was pretty sure the clutch pedal hits the floorboard so can't be that clutch wasn't properly released. Told my mechanic about this but he couldn't replicate the fault (it's once in a blue moon!!). I suggested that the synchromesh may be worn but he said no point changing synchromesh, if so might as well change the whole gearbox. He said to put up with it...shouldn't do much harm to the gearbox. Anyone can explain this??

  21. Hi guys, guess you guys are expert on this...my car tyres sort of locked when i jam brake today while trying to avoid a taxi... no accident but i think its very dangerous for me to drive around my car in this condition. the ground is wet cos' its drizzling just now. any advice?
  22. hi guys ,hope you can help with these. 1. aircon not cold after changing aircon compressor even after buddy club installation 2. aircon compressor very noisy 3. since install aircon compressor, fuel comsuption very bad
  23. Been noticing that whenever I release my brake (not the brake handle), I hear an unusual dull clunk sound at the rear of the car. The sound is similar to that of slowly accelerating while the handbrake is up. It doesn't repeat each time I step the brake and release and move, but it happens about 70% of the time. Could it be a sticky brake pad in the drum or the drum itself? After I changed my tyres, I noticed the rear left wheel to have uneven wear and tear...ie botak patches around the inner rim. Anyone experienced this kind of problem before ? Also should I go to a specialist mech or any mech will do ?
  24. Was considering getting a 2nd hand Volvo S80 2.4L 1.5 yrs old, price asked was abt $120k. I thought that was a very good deal although mileage was high, 46k. I did some "research" on car reviews on Volvo cars in general as well as S80. Seems to be 2 camps, either the one who loves Volvo a lot or the other say Volvo is crap. Among the problems frequently mentioned are transmission problem, electrical or electronic problems etc. see http://www.carreview.com . Any Volvo owners here experience these types of problems? The car I was looking at still has abt 0.5 yr of warranty on it. However there are too many reports of reliability issues in the US that made me wary...
