  1. WASHINGTON (AFP) - - Circumcision, which has been found to reduce by about one-half the transmission of HIV between heterosexuals, appears to offer far less protection for men engaging in homosexual intercourse, according to a new study. The research published in the October 8 issue of The Journal of the American Medical Association compiled 15 discrete studies of more than 50,000 male subjects in Africa. The report by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention noted that male circumcision appears to reduce by between 50 and 60 percent the likelihood of female-to-male transmission of the potentially deadly AIDS virus. But among men who report having male sexual partners, researchers found little difference in the rate of HIV infection between those who were circumcised and those who were not. Of 53,567 subjects in the study, 52 percent were circumcised, meaning that they had had all or some of the foreskin removed from the penis. The study's authors wrote that circumcision appears to provide "not statistically significant" protection from HIV in men who engage in anal sex with other men. The researchers said however that more research may be necessary to quantify the amount of protection -- or lack thereof -- provided by circumcision. That view was echoed in an editorial that accompanied the article. A team of peer reviewers from Vanderbilt University concluded that "circumcision would likely be insufficiently efficient to be universally effective in reducing HIV risk, and will have to be combined with other prevention modalities to have a substantial and sustained prevention effect." The findings did suggest however, that male circumcision may offer men engaging in heterosexual intercourse some protection against sexually-transmitted infections, such as syphilis or chlamydia. http://sg.news.yahoo.com/afp/20081008/tts-...ay-972e412.html

  5. Hi, Anybody can recommend a good paint protection for my new ride? I have used toughseal before. Want to know any better sealant out there?
  6. Finally, I will be receiving my silver ride today. Of course, after all the excitement comes the maintenance I've read about PPS, sealent, waxing, car shampoo etc etc... I'm wondering what really is effective and realistic in our SG condition? I don't fancy shining my teeth on my paint-work, just clean, basic-shine and can tahan bird sh*t until I wipe them off will do. My workplace car park is sheltered but home is open carpark. What's your advice if I just want to: - Put a good protection layer on the paint first (is it sealant?) - Shampoo wash my car once in 2-3 weeks - May be, for self-vanity, send for wax polishing (once in a few months?) Appreciate your advice!
  7. Getting a new ride 1st week of Jul I hope. Don't know whether to go for these PPS or are they just temporary fixs? heard there was this glasplexin (not sure of spelling) where they would coat a layer of 'liquid' glass on your car.... Does it work? Any suggestions? Or simply just bargain with the ah ne to wash every day and kena swirl marks after that.... Thanks in advance. Cheers!
  8. I have been an owner of many cars before, and always one lazy bum when it comes to washing, waxing, cleaning, vacuuming car. The previous car I owned I didnt even washed it once in the 2 years I owned it, anyone believe ? 2 days ago, I drove my new BMW320i out of the showroom, immediately my Wifey said 'are you gonna wash / polish this car or are u gonna be as lazy as before, which will in time make our car the dirtiest looking BMW in our estate"? Lan Lan, so on advice from a brother on this forum, I decided to try out Menzerna paint protection system treatment for the 1st time. I dont even know what I was in for as detailing is alien to me. I used to wash my car plate number with dynamo cloth washer liquid only bcos I was gonna buy 4-D Anyway, I got my wife to send it to Studio 12 at AMK autopoint in the morning and car was ready for collection by around 1 pm. Got the car back nice n clean. Since I do not drive to work, I only got home at 8pm to see the results under fluorescent lighting [ i lived in a terrace house with shleter]. In the rather subdued lighting, the paintwork initially didnt look much different from before since the car was already polished by PML. What was rather nice was that at certain angles, u could see clear reflections. My car colour is metallic silver, i could almost see the reflection image of the fluorescent light on the ceiling. i believe if it was black colour, the reflection would be nicer? Oh my sold car was black . This morning I finally had the chance to see it clearly under morning daylight before I drove to work, it looks glossy but isnt sticky to the fingers like typical waxing. Saw a few spots of dont know what, maybe tree sap, on the bonnet[wnet out dinner last night n parked in open. Put on wet tissue as saw on forum discussions, and after 30 secs wiped them off with drier tissue.....the marks are gone ! then later also found that the evaporated moisture from my damp cleaning tissue had left behind some 'water spots' when seen from certain angles. Next I used a fully dry tissue to remove them in a single swap...tada !!!! Those dirt seem to be removal easily. So looks like it was worth the $$ and trouble putting on the Menzerna on my beemer. Was told it was a 6 layer application, including acrylic application or similar. Whatever it is, i think all new car owners should have this done. Sorry I am equally lazy at taking pictures. Hopefully this short description gives everyone a good guage of the product.

  11. say goodbye to bird bombs, rocks, chips, swirls marks and acid rain! 3M Scotchguard paint protection FILM http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3M/en_U...hgard-PPF/Home/
  12. i'm going on a journey to create a step plan that will protect my car for 1 yr with minimal maintenance, maybe wash once in 2 months kind of frequency. My black coloured car is now pretty new, but with lots of bird bombs which I couldn't be bothered to wipe off for 3 weeks already. There are swirl marks made by hand washing/drying cloths at the petrol stations, and some minor scratches here and there. There is still evident shine and mirror like reflection leftover from the 3-4month old status, but I'm afraid it's going to go pretty bad soon leaving it in the open day and night. Anyone got any good advice / comments to give on the procedure that will prepare this car for protection and protection for up to a year? cheap? Is this the correct procedure below? :- 1) wash car with Mama shampoo / Rain-X (already own) sheeting action wash 2) claybar the car - any claybar will do? cheapest? 3) use 3M swirl remover to remove the bird bomb marks 4) claybar the bird bomb marks 5) use Polish to polish the paintwork? 6) use Sealant to seal the paintwork? Is Fusso 12 months a sealant? 7) Wax? Fusso Wax? I'm not so concerned about making the car shine like in the showroom but more to protect from the bird bombs and scratches. Did I get anysteps in the wrong order?

  18. Will be getting a black car soon and wanted to put some protection on the paint. Read through the articles here, it seems that mostly the recommendation would be zaino or glare. But using these would mean need to go back for waxing or polishing or would need to use back the product if DIY. Is there any form of a more permanent product whereby after application can last for a few good years with regular DIY maintenance by just using plain water or simple car shampoo/wax. Heard that some product after application cannot wash with normal shampoo. Is this true? Any experts pls advice. Thanks.
  19. Hi, I just realised that my new Aveo is not protected with Tuff Kote. Is Starsauto trying to save money?. Do we actually need to rust-proof our cars?

Launch of Special-protection version of high-end luxury saloon From September, the exclusive Maybach saloon can also be ordered with a sophisticated, factory-integrated special-protection package. The first of these specially protected Maybach Guard vehicles will be delivered to customers in mid-2004. This means that this version of the luxury saloon meets all the requirements of the European B4 "high protection" level. 22. Folks This might sound silly but does the colour of a car fade with too much exposure to the sun? I think the interior of a car does but what about the exterior? Are there any wax/liquid protection for both the interior and exterior of a car that keeps fading at bay? I know one solution for the interior is to block out the sun-rays with sun screen. Thanks. Milgram
  23. Hi, i was thinking of getting those metallic looking sheer covers for my new ride. I'm thinking it might protect the car from the glaring sunlight and bird poo and rain which also leaves water marks on the car after the rain. Any recommendations for a relatively good one and the place to buy?
  24. Hi Guys, Although the body kit for the front/rear bumper skirt is not very low, it does get scratched if the road kerb is higher than normal at the parking lot. So far, the 'damage' is only scratched paintwork and the fibreglass bodykit has not cracked or dented. I am thinking of pasting either a thick transparent tape at the bottom edge of the skirting to protect the paintwork from being scratched or stick some rubber strip (say 3-5mm thick) to provide some cushioning effect when the skirt hits the kerb. All comments or suggestions are most welcome. Many thanks in advance. Cheers
  25. Dear Forumers, We are announcing the availability of INVINCA-SHIELD, an established paint protection film product based on the unique 3M Scotchcal urethane film in Malaysia for the first time. For those who have not come across paint protection film before, this is a thin and highly transparent adhesive film with a unique ability to resist stone chips once it has been correctly installed onto the paintwork of your cherished automobile. The film has a hard urethane top coat which is identical in appearance to the clear coat finish of a modern automotive paint system, which allows the protected portion of the paintwork to blend in with the other parts, and this film is virtually
