  7. Extract from Yahoo News "Wednesday November 24, 11:29 AM Singapore's GIC buys 5 pct of Malaysia's Proton http://sg.rd.yahoo.com/SIG=12agucl28/M=318...101268169172554? KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 24 (Reuters) - The Government of Singapore Investment Corp Pte Ltd (GIC) has bought a 5.04 percent stake in Malaysia's Proton Holdings , emerging for the first time as a substantial shareholder of the carmaker, Proton said. GIC is a state investment firm which manages Singapore's foreign reserves and holds a wide range of mainly blue chip assets from Japanese and Korean real estate projects to U.S. bonsd an equities. Proton said in a statement late on Tuesday that GIC bought a total of 27.6 million shares or 5.04 percent in the company at an undisclosed price. Proton shares were up 3.3 percent at 9.30 ringgit ($2.45) by 0303 GMT. Proton said the deal was done on November 9, the day Japan's biggest trading house, Mitsubishi Corp. said it was not looking to sell its stake in Malaysian carmaker Proton in the wake of Proton's move to link up with Germany's Volkswagen AG . Mitsubishi Corp, a founding member of the Proton project to develop a Malaysian car-making industry, still owns 7.93 percent of the state-controlled carmaker. The Malaysian government owns 45 percent. Speculation about the future of Mitsubishi's stake resurfaced late last month when Proton, Malaysia's biggest carmaker with around half of the local market, struck a deal to assemble Volkswagen cars in Malaysia for sale in Southeast Asia. Volkswagen did not take an equity stake in Proton under the deal, but industry analysts say this may follow. Under the deal, the first Malaysian-assembled VW models will be launched by the end of 2005, generating sales of over 15,000 units in 2006. " So GIC is confident in MY car maker?
  8. After seeing Remy's done-up bodykitted Waja and E230's Waja .... I am very much attracted to the Waja. Was looking around for info on Waja and found this. I didnt know the Waja is called Proton Impian in UK and the Wira is known as Proton Persona. Why do car manufacturers name their cars differently for different regions ah ?? Much like Sentra and Sunny, 323 and Protege and much much more. Why ah ? Remy .. whats your FC like ?? The Australian Government
  9. Yes my fellow MCFers, it's true! Proton is releasing a 2.0 Litre Proton Waja that releases a total of 220 BHP! That's a total of 110 HP PER LITRE! How they manage to achieve this with a NA engine, no one knows! Where they get the technology, WHO KNOWS! But they're currently more efficient than ANY companies out there. It also comes with Recaro seats, Momo steering, V6 24 valve engine, possibly 18 inch rims. How much does this thing cost? 120 thousand ringgit. OMG! Such low prices will KILL competition! In fact, I foresee that the world will be importing the NEW WAJA 2.0 LITRE WITH 220 BHP as it is SO DIRT CHEAP! Here, have a lovely picture of the WAJA 2.0 (Hopefully you can read malay)

  13. The astonishingly stylish Proton Gen-2 Proton, the first Malaysian national carmaker introduced its brand new Gen-2 on Friday. Astonishing style Wherever you go, you'll always look fabulous in a Gen-2. It has a unique design unlike any other proton. It's chic, sporty and stylish. The Gen-2 is as breathtaking inside as it is outside. The Lotus Design Studio from the UK adopts a minimalist design concept with aluminium-style highlights that'll go well with your stylish wardrobe Astonishing Power With the new Gen-2, you'll never be left behind. The new CAMPRO engine promises a more sporty and aggressive drive, delivering a power and torque output that leads in its class. In fact, the 1.6 litre 16-valve CAMPRO engine with DOHC produces 110 bhp, rivalling some engines of higher capacity. However, the CAMPRO is not about power alone. It generates less vigration for added comfort and smoother driveablility wherever you go. Astonishing Handling When you're behind the wheel of a Gen-2, you're expreiencing the best ride and handling in its class. Its distinctive control comes from precise and progressive steering response. This gives you more confidence in taking difficult corners and changing lanes. If that's not enough for you, harshness and noise are also reduced, so prepare yourself for smoother journeys. Astonishing safety The Gen-2 is built with a unique 3-level safety system. The first level is ABS with EBD (Electronic Brake Force Distribution). This ensures maximum stability and braking performance whenever you're on wet roads. Second are the dual SRS airbags enhanced with pre-tensioner seat belts. And lastly, Gen-2 is clad in a superior hull with increased body rigidity. In facts, it exceeds European safety regulations. 17. New Roadster he boxy bodywork is heading for the history books - Proton has unveiled this stunning roadster, which is design-ed to match the dynamics of the legendary Lotus Elise / BMW Z3 / Honda 2000S with a great new look. The two-seater is the most powerful indication yet as to where the company's design department is heading. Inspired by the radical B11S, unveiled at this year's Geneva Motor Show, and inheriting a grille reminiscent of Alfas from more than 40 years ago, the Wijanchil Coupe is the first complete prototype to be penned under the guidance of former cartoonist Lat. A coincidence? Proton won't be drawn, but styling hints from European car makers are becoming big news at the Malaysian company, where bosses are keen to establish a strong reputation for product design. As if to drive the point home, the car to be unveiled at next year's KL Motor Show comes with an iridescent windscreen to reflect all the colours of the rainbow in sunlight.
