  2. Singaporeans nowadays are really too stressed out STOMPer henry got involved in an argument with a female driver after she insulted the cyclist for being 'poor' when he didn't help her pump air into her vehicle's tyres at a petrol kiosk in Braddell. The STOMPer wrote: "While cycling to work, I stopped at the SPC petrol kiosk at Braddell Road to pump my bicycle tyres. "When I reached the kiosk, there was a driver who also wanted to pump air into her vehicle's tyres. "So, I waited for my turn. "The driver tried pumping air into the tyres but couldn't get it in. "She then asked "is air going in?", to which I said no. "She tried it a few more times before going up to the petrol kiosk attendant to ask for help. "At that point of time, I took my turn and used the station to pump air into my bicyle tyres. "When she got back, she asked why I didn't help her, and went on to say that we Singaporeans must help each other. "I just looked at her and kept quiet but then, she started insulting me. "I couldn't take it anymore so I told her off by saying: "When was it a must for me to help you when you never asked? And then when I don't help you, you insult me. What logic is that? ""If you're a driver and don't know how to pump air into your tyres, then you might as well take a bus or taxi!" "But she replied: "I have never taken the bus in my life, not like you poor people who cannot afford a car!" "Well, the rest of the conversation was made up of cursing and swearing!"
  3. Recently switched from Esso95 to Shell95 to test its Fuelsave ability but found that I could pump Esso98 for the same price (almost). Shell 95 = $2.15 before discount - after 10% onsite discount with 5% rebate using UOB One Card = $1.827 after discount Esso 98 = $2.26 before discount - after 14% onsite discount with 4.5% rebate using Citibank Dividend MasterCard = $1.841 after discount So effectively I pay only an extra 1.4 cents per litre to pump Esso 98 over Shell 95. Any comments? Prices above not taking into consideration converting Esso Smiles and Shell rewards points for petrol, which Esso's 750 points for $30 petrol voucher is more worth than Shell's 300 points for $10 petrol voucher

  8. From ST Forum: http://www.straitstimes.com/STForum/Story/...ory_800580.html Oil prices down, but pump prices still high Published on May 19, 2012 OIL prices have dropped by an average of 10 per cent since April, but the prices of petrol and diesel, as well as liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders for home use, have not seen a similar decrease. Meanwhile, major oil companies are posting multibillion-dollar profits for their first quarter this year. I wonder why the Consumers Association of Singapore has been silent about the development. Interestingly, in July 2008 when the Brent crude price was US$147 per barrel, our pump price for Mogas 95 unleaded was $2.236 per litre before discount. On May 8 this year, the Brent crude price was down to US$111.24 per barrel, while our pump price for Mogas 95 unleaded was $2.17 per litre before discount. What's more, over the past four years, the Singapore dollar has strengthened against the US dollar, from 1.55 to 1.25. So I am baffled as to why consumers here are paying so much more for their LPG, petrol and diesel. David Goh

  13. Pump Station : Serangoon Garden Shell Date and Time : 24sept11 2250hrs Sian, encountered a really snobbish driver just now. Drove in the station for Vpower, the 1st 2 pumps had cones with 'refuelling in progress' signage. Saw a car parking BESIDE curb, few metres away from entrance to 7-11 and possibly beside the 1st pump a car body width away, so I drove pass and seeing ahead all pumps were occupied, i stopped just before the 2nd pump which is not in service also as mentioned. Then i heard the car that parked BESIDE the curb horned for no reason, i turned my head and saw the LL face driver waving at me exasperatingly, showing the hand palm face up sign while still horning. Then I realised he was ACTUALLY waiting for his turn BESIDE the curb. So i just waved back exasperatingly too for him to drive ahead of me to the pump that was just vacated lor. As this drama unfolded, there was actually no car behind, so do u think i know he was actually queuing and i wanted to jump queue? Actually wanted to let this small matter pass, but as i drove pass his car and he got down and gave me the LL look of 'u want to jump queue issit?'. I really cannot stand it but to wind down the window and told him, 'how i know you are waiting?' You know what his reply? 'den what, u think i looking at the scenery?' Ya right looking at the scenery parking BESIDE the curb waiting. With this kind of remark, few mins left for Vpower promo and on my way to work, i knew its no point arguing and waste my time on this kind of ppl. Really made my day and just wanted to vent it out. Thanks for reading.

  18. ST Forum ExxonMobil explains pump pricing WE UNDERSTAND Mr Lim Kia Cheh's concerns ('Pump prices quick to rise, slow to fall', Forum Online; Aug 13). Pump prices do not rise or fall at the same time or magnitude as crude prices because pump prices are affected by a combination of factors, of which crude prices are but one of these many factors. Commodity and product prices, while linked, also have different supply and demand dynamics. In addition to market competition, fuel prices are determined by a number of other factors, including wholesale fuel prices (which may be different to crude oil prices), taxes and other operating costs. Some Competition Commission of Singapore staff had recently carried out an in-depth, independent study into the fuel retailing market in Singapore. Part of the study included an econometric analysis on the retail petrol prices to test if the 'rocket-and-feather' (where prices rise more or faster than they fall) phenomenon exists and they found that the results do not support the existence of such a phenomenon. 19. When I got my Hankook more than half a year ago, they pump nitrogen. Now the front do look they need some pressure, and I'm lazy to drive out of the way to their workshop for the nitrogen refill. So can I pump air into it to the correct pressure?

  21. Hi everyone as above i believe many of us had heard its better to pump cold petrol early morning as petrol is more dense than when its hot....very logical right? But recently i started to pump petrol myself and i touch the metal part of the hose which connect to the nozzle and i can feel that its warm! i tried at another station and b4 i start pumping the metal part is cold and during pumping i again can feel the metal part is warm again So i suspect that petrol stations got some sort of equiment to warm the petrol and that in turn let them be more profitable by selling warm and less dense petrol to us What do u guys think? Maybe u guys can try pumping urself the next time and feel for urself?
  22. pump prices down by 3cts since yesterday fyi
