  2. Hi guys, I'm looking to buy a good quality safe box for my home. I don't mind paying more for a good brand that provide enough resistance against a burglary - something that makes it really frustrating for him to tray to break open. Other than the uber-expensive Chubb, are there any options that anyone can recommend for value? I'd prefer not to buy those from HomeFix, Giant or some stationery stores. Thanks!
  3. Under the "complaints" folder of MCF, many forumers have shared with us their personal unpleasant road encounters like: -Not signaling while changing lanes. -Reckless driving -Dangerous driving -swerving into others' lane suddenly with no regards to safety. -speeding etc. We seem to see more such cases today than years back. It sets me thinking: "Weren't the drivers taught the proper way to drive when they took their lessons?" I went to a driving center website and took a look at the requirements to qualify as a driving instructor. I was surprised that a young man who passed his test for 3 years could become a driving instructor. And they welcome fresh poly grads (~20 years old) to apply also. Does these young people have enough experience to teach?

  7. 1. I have a DVD HU and 2 DVD Players mounted behind the headrest of the front passngers' seat and driver's seat. 2. Now, the 3 are wired via AUX. Hence, if any one is playing a DVD, the other 2 can always switch to AUX mode to watch the same DVD. However, I found that the other 2 players' picture quality is always not as good as the one that is playing the DVD or should I say, less than ideal. 3. Is there a way to improve the picture quality? Is it because of the quality of the cables or what? Please advise me. Thank you very much. Regards,
  8. Hi there, due to budget and practicality, we are not planning to change car in the near future. And to keep the new car feeling, we are planning to give the car a new paint job next year. Also, car resale value will drop if color is not original, what is the percentage of the lost? And the subject question is, any recommendation for those high grade/quality workshop for re-spraying conti cars? Thank you in advance, Vincent
  9. Hi, Did a search on the Respray with Star Automotive here but couldn't really find much feedback. Am wondering if you bros and sis can provide some comments on their quality and service level if tried before. Thanks.
  10. I can get window tinting films from China at S$0.20 per sq ft. So you can do your sums at how much is the cost price of the raw material. Those low end window tinting at S$168 etc. are also useless in blocking out harmful UV. Those films are merely coated with a layer of dye to make it look dark.
  11. Hi, My ride is Aveo5 (2005). Recently I have replaced the stock HU with Sony CDX-GT550 and added disc changer. I noticed there is a significant difference in sound quality and clarity when I played music CD in the HU and in the Disc changer. Music played from HU always sounds better than from Disc changer. I am using similar CD and equalizer profile when playing from HU and from disc changer. Is my observation above normal or is there a problem with the disc changer?

  13. Hi bros, For those who love MP3s, just want to check if you all have experience and feedback on the quality of MP3s? 1. Tracks from MP3 recorded at 128kbps standard compared to Higher Quality pre-recorded at 192kbps (if this is available)? 2. Tracks from MP3 recorded at 128kbps standard converted using software like iTunes to higer 192kbps. 3. Tracks from MP3 converted from 128kbps to 192kbps and then uncompressed them to wave files. Any difference in the above 1, 2 and 3 in terms of sound quality when heard in your ICE setup?

  15. ST, 27/09/06 Firm will improve training and review resource allocation: Camry chief engineer TOYOTA Motor expanded too rapidly and, as a result, did not devote enough time to maintaining quality for some of its products, admitted the carmaker's chief engineer for the new Camry. Mr Yasuyuki Kawamoto, who unveiled the new executive sedan at the Ritz-Carlton, Millenia Singapore yesterday, said rapid expansion was the reason for the spate of recalls that Toyota had to initiate in the last few months. 'I believe we've expanded fast, and as our volume increased, our development work could not catch up,' said the 48-year-old, who is one of Toyota's youngest chief engineers. From being the world's fourth-largest vehicle maker in 1999, Toyota has overtaken Volkswagen and Ford to become No. 2. It is now on the verge of beating No. 1 General Motors (GM). To achieve this, it makes cars in various countries, primarily the United States, Europe, Thailand and China. More than half of the nine million vehicles it produces are made outside of Japan. Mr Kawamoto said that maintaining consistent quality is a top priority. 'This is the main challenge of globalisation. 'Whether we overtake GM is not that important. We must have the range of cars that people want and maintain our standard of quality.'' He added that Toyota has realised its mistake and is making 'drastic adjustments' to address the quality issue. 'If there are models we can delay, we will delay. Also, we are reviewing our allocation of resources,' he said, referring, in particular, to outsourcing. 'Some of these outside resources are not used to the Toyota way.' From within, the company will raise efforts to nurture and impart know-how to younger workers whom, he admitted, were 'a little different' from the older generation. There had been reports blaming Japan's quality lapse on the country's repudiation of lifelong employment and a seniority-based system for American-style performance-based rewards. This had apparently led to workers taking a short-term view of their careers, with little or no loyalty to the company. Meanwhile, quality lapses have prompted the Japanese government to call on Toyota and Sony - which had to recall faulty laptop batteries - to buck up. Influential motoring quality consultants JD Power has even placed South Korea's Hyundai ahead of Toyota at the top spot for the first time in a recent poll. Mr Kawamoto said, however, that the Camry is still one step ahead of the Hyundai Sonata - its direct South Korean rival. 'Before Hyundai made the new Sonata, it studied the previous Camry closely. But before we made the new Camry, we studied the new Sonata closely. On the surface, the quality of the two cars looks very similar. But deep down, the Camry has better durability,' he said. Buyers here seem to agree. Since Toyota agent Borneo Motors started taking orders for the car in June, it has collected more than 1,300 bookings - or 350 units a month. In the first eight months of the year, Hyundai sold 560 Sonatas, or about 70 a month.
  16. Friday, August 25, 2006 OYAMA, Japan (AP) - Toyota says it may delay some models as it works to improve quality control. The automaker's president denies that there's been a decision to delay models across the board, saying development of individual vehicles will be decided on a case-by-case basis. The Japanese automaker is tightening its quality control methods in a campaign to reduce a spate of recalls that risk damaging its reputation. The Wall Street Journal reports that Toyota has considered slowing development of some new models by as much as six months because of the quality problems. In addition, Japanese authorities have launched a criminal investigation into three Toyota officials suspected of failing to do anything about a faulty steering part, which may have caused a 2004 head-on accident that injured five people. Friday, Chinese authorities said Toyota will recall 20,000 Crown sedans made in China because of defective rubber strips that seal the windshields. 17. The modern day Toyotas are fitting tributes to the Chinese proverb "一分钱,一分货". Translated, it means "you get for what you pay". In the following pictures, you will be able to see the weld qualities on the following Toyota models sold in Europe: 1. Corolla (made in Europe) 2. RAV4 3. Avensis (the Camry equivalent which is made in Europe) 4. Lexus RX400h
  18. Dear all, I have mentioned to some Skoda owners about the dubious build quality that current Lexus has. Here are some photo essays to share with all. http://www.mycarforum.com/forum/A_new_defi...417222/#1417222 Be proud that we are owning a car which has a higher level of build quality and standards compared to some premium Japanese cars which cost more.

  21. I have seen many people commented a little negative on the new Sonata. Sometime been wondering how u look at quality build of a car, usually the followings are what i look out for: 1. Gaps if even or very clean shut lines 2. Interior plastic, i hate hard plastic. 3. The interior plastic texture. 4. Paint Quality (i dun fancy matt color) 5. If door close with a solid thud and yet dun give out a "bang" sound when closed. I always got a joke with my friends abt the Hyundai Getz. I always to tell them to wear seat beats if they happen to be front passengers. If the car is to met with an accident and it has no airbag, when ur head hit on the dashboard, u will die a horrible death instantly. They asked why and i ask them to touch and knock on the dash plastic how "super hard" it is and the texture on it looks real cheap plastic. ok no doubt that the interior design is nice, let down by super hard plastic
  22. Went to see a 2nd hand (1 yr old) Focus today, noticed the armrest connected with the panelling at the gear lever panel was very filmsy and rather loose. Some of the plastics of the console were also creaky. Anyone can verify if it's the case for Focus? Any comments on the build quality? Does anyone know if NTUC allows repairs at Regent? Thanks for your inputs !
  23. Straits Times, 3 March 2005 GENEVA - BMW chief executive Helmut Panke has admitted that quality at the German luxury carmaker is failing to meet its expectations, and has pledged to regain a position in the top three most reliable manufacturers. German carmakers, once renowned for their high quality, have seen their cars become more prone to breakdowns as the electronic systems used in cars grow increasingly complicated, with Mercedes particularly badly affected. However, BMW has also seen its reputation slide and was last year ranked 13th among 37 manufacturers for reliability and 12th for initial quality, in an influential study by JD Power. 'I admit that we're not where we want to be,' Dr Panke said in an interview. 'We need to be in the top three for both quality and reliability. Position number eight or nine is not good enough.' But he added that improving that position was not a strategic goal. BMW's 7-series was last year ranked as the worst European car for reliability by Consumer Reports in the United States. Asian carmakers dominate the reliability stakes with Lexus at the head, but mass-market models such as Hyundai rank higher than BMW or Mercedes, which fell to 28th place. Dr Panke said he expected Lexus, made by Toyota, to grow increasingly aggressive in Europe as it tried to break into the market. His comments came as BMW unveiled the latest two models as part of an ambitious programme to branch out from its traditional three products, the 3-, 5- and 7-series. He told a press conference that BMW would develop a multi-purpose vehicle, or what many see as a people carrier, as well as a surprise new model. This would combine the appeal of a coupe with the raised seating position more associated with sports utility vehicles. BMW officials admitted the announcement would come as a surprise but said it was designed to show investors that the company's model offensive had not ground to a halt after the recent launches of its 6-series coupe, 1-series hatchback and Z4 convertible. -- FINANCIAL TIMES
  24. Sometimes when looking at cars.... if the paint quality really attract me... it really improve the overall impression of the car. I personally think Mazda has the best quality of paint by looking at it visually....I've never own one Mazda b4 or think of owning one (maybe can't afford one, can afford only the Mazda 2)....anyone got other opinion I got impression that Mitsubishi got worst quality as my dad's previous car Lancer paint start to "Boop" up (roof) and got "spots" after about 5 yrs. No matter how u wash also still got the white spot....not "paint splash" , dun know what spots also.
