  8. Hi Bros, What's the diff between bonnet that comes with undertray and some without undertray? With undertray, does that mean that airflow will be block from the air vent but water wont slip thru into enginebay? Without undertray, does that mean that airflow won't be block from air vent but risk of water slipping thru into the enginebay is higher? How to i ensured and prevent water from slipping thru into the engine bay and also at the same time allowing air from flowing from the airvent? I understand that some CF bonnet comes with water tray too.. Can someone enlighten me? I'm actually looking at this CF bonnet. http://www.nengun.com/monster/air-outlet-carbon-hood

  11. when during emergency - if you are involved in rescue, please dont ask stupid question He said that an NParks officer called him on his mobile phone, and the officer asked him if he could "pinpoint" his position. "But I couldn't see any significant landmarks at all," said Mr Ng. "All around me were trees and more trees." if the lost hiker could pin-point his location he need not call for help isnt mobile cell phone signal can be used to locate someone by triangulating with the base station 1-hour hike turns into 8-hour ordeal By Alvin Lim, The New Paper | Wed, Nov 16 2011 He had a love for adventure, which would take him out of the heartlands and into the jungle in search of hiking trails. But hiking enthusiast Ng Lit Sin, 53, a retiree, ended up lost after he ventured alone into a forested area on the fringes of Upper Seletar Reservoir last month. He was rescued only eight hours later, after police and National Parks Board officers guided him to the edge of the reservoir and sent a boat to pick him up. In an interview with The New Paper on Friday, Mr Ng recounted his ordeal in Mandarin. After breakfast - two slices of bread and a cup of Milo - at his Clementi home, Mr Ng went into the forested area off Mandai Road at 8.30am on Oct 15. He intended to return after an hour. Said Mr Ng: "I had come here many times with my friends before, and I know the place well." He parked his car at a small slip road, and with just a 500ml bottle of water, his wallet, keys and mobile phone on him, he entered the jungle. But about 15 minutes after following a jungle footpath, he realised that he was on unfamiliar ground. He tried to retrace his steps, but ended up feeling even more disorientated. He then started on what he thought was a trail, thinking that it would lead out to the road where his car was parked. But the trail only led him deeper into the jungle, where the vegetation grew thicker and the sun's rays barely made it through. Mr Ng said: "I was climbing up and down small hills, trying to avoid fallen trees and undergrowth. "The forest was very quiet...but I kept myself moving." Exhausted By midday, Mr Ng was tired. He had finished all his water two hours earlier, and his legs were so weak that he could barely walk any more. He said: "I was so hungry and thirsty...I tried looking for fruits on the trees, but there were none. "Even tree leaves seemed like food to me...At that point, I just wished I had brought more food and water along," he added. It was then that he decided to call for help. Mr Ng said he used his handphone to call his hiking buddies, and two of them rushed down. But neither of them - both experienced hikers, he said - managed to make contact with him. He recalled: "They were shouting loudly for me, but I couldn't hear them...it was deathly quiet." Mr Ng then called his 26-year-old son, who alerted the police. He said that an NParks officer called him on his mobile phone, and the officer asked him if he could "pinpoint" his position. "But I couldn't see any significant landmarks at all," said Mr Ng. "All around me were trees and more trees." The officer then told him how he could find his way to the water's edge, making use of the position of the sun. Said Mr Ng: "The officer asked me to conserve my energy, so I walked slowly as I was very tired and my legs were hurting." He said that there was deadfall littered all the way to the shore, but he knew that he was close when he hit marshy, wet ground. When he got to the shoreline, he spotted a motorised boat in the distance. On it were two NParks officers and a boat driver, who took Mr Ng to a waiting pickup truck which then drove him to where his car was parked. Police said they received a call at 4.05pm on Oct 15, requesting assistance at Upper Seletar Reservoir Park. A police spokesman said that a man in his 50s was located with the assistance of police and NParks officers, after he got lost in the forest. Mr Ng's eight-hour ordeal took such a toll on him that his legs become weak and he found it difficult to walk immediately after the incident. He also suffered blood clots under his toenails. Mr Ng said he was grateful to his rescuers for their efforts. He said: "I heard that my rescuers were activated just to find me even though it was a Saturday...I can't thank them enough." But despite the experience, the former minimart operator said he would carry on hiking to "pass his time". Said Mr Ng: "I would usually go with three of my good friends, but it so happened that they couldn't make it that day." He said his wife was supportive of his hobby, and would even go along on some of his hiking trips. "This was a one-off incident," he added. He said that he would carry more food and water with him on future hiking trips. "If I hadn't been so hungry, maybe I could've found the way out myself," he said. Be prepared and respect boundaries: nature guide Adventure-seekers should be prepared before setting off into the jungle, said Mr Ben Lee (right), a nature guide and founder of local non-profit organisation Nature Trekker. He said: "I always encourage trekkers to bring whistles, a torchlight, a raincoat and plenty of water. "If possible, the trekker should also bring a copy of a Singapore map and a compass." Mr Lee, who has 30 years of experience leading trekking groups, added that the forested area bounded by the Upper Seletar Reservoir where retiree Ng Lit Sin, 53, lost his way was a "dangerous" location for trekkers. He said: "There are tall trees with dense foliage and bushes everywhere, and the area is huge. "It's also home to venomous snakes such as the spitting cobra." Mr Lee said the venom of the spitting cobra, which can grow up to 1.5m, can kill if a victim is not treated quickly. Mr Lee and his 30 volunteer guides organise activities like nature walks and treks every weekend. He said that the hobby has grown to be "very popular", with about 70 per cent of Nature Trekker's 3,500 members polling it as a choice activity. Said Mr Lee: "Many people have the opportunity to become more appreciative of nature through trekking." "But it's also important for the public to note the out-of-bound areas and to respect that," he added. Others lost Over the years, people have been lost in the forested areas along Singapore's reservoirs. It was reported in 2008 that a Japanese jogger, Dr Brian Takei, was lost for 18 hours after veering from his usual jogging route near MacRitchie Reservoir. The man spent the night in the forest, quenching his thirst with rainwater. He was eventually rescued by the police and National Parks Board (NParks) rangers. Lost? Here's what to do Mr Ben Lee, a nature guide and founder of Nature Trekker Singapore, offers these tips. Stay calm You will be better equipped to make rational decisions. Dial 999 Most forests in Singapore are not too far from built-up areas, so you can get reception. Head to open ground Or find a prominent landmark so rescuers can find you. Tall trees, huts, and along jungle streams are good examples. Stay put and wait for help. Find a river or stream Follow the downstream flow to the reservoir. You'll be able to walk out to a track and eventually find your way out.

  16. Hi Guys, I have a question on the usage of the cigarette socket splitter. First off, a bad experience: I once bought a 3 Normal Split socket type like the one shown below, plugged phone chargers into it and it worked but when I plugged in a heavy duty vacume cleaner, it totally burn out. Think its the voltage thing. I am a noob at such stuff. So had to buy another one. This time round I purchased another which is slightly different, comes with a Cigarette socket and 3 Normal sockets similar to the image below First question: To play safe these days, I would just unplug the spliter sockets and use the original car cigarette socket when I use my vacume cleaner, its once in a while so no big deal. But I wonder if I am just too paranoid. And given that my new splitter actuall is a 1 cigarette + 3 normal socket, I was wondering if I could plug the vacume into the 1 cigarette socket without burning it out again. Does such spliter actually split the voltage even when other sockets are not in use? Second question: Given the new one I have which is 1 Cigarette + 3 normal socket, can I plug the Griffin Power Jolt Dual for Ipad (click for details) into the Cigarette socket while having my phone charger in the normal sockets all at the same time? I thrown away the packaging of the new spliter so I have no idea how many volts is each socket getting. Please let me know if you are using a similar product in a similar manner. Would appreciate the experiences shared. Thanks

  18. I have a question regarding breaking the offer of overseas employment. A friend of mine was recently offered a position in the US. He has signed on the offer letter in Sept and is scheduled to start work sometime in Jan/Feb next year. The company is now processing the VISA and has engaged agents to make arrangements for his relocation. For family reasons, he may not be able to join the company, but he has already signed on the offer letter and arrangements for relocation is already in progress. In such a case, how much money does he need to compensate that company? Does anyone has a rough idea? Thanks.
  19. Hi do anyone knows roughly how much the insurance would be for a 50yo driver with 20+ years of driving experience with no accident? roughly and the car is a kia rios 2nd hand OPC 1.4cc? can help roughly? thanks
  20. Hi Guys, Bear with me. Another ignorance question. XXX bank just called and informed me that my car loan has been approved. However, the amount they will loan me is 29.5K from the initial loan submission request of 31.5K. I understand that for purchase of 2nd hand car, the amount loan is normally not 100% of the purchased price 41.5K? I have actually made a downpayment of 10K on the 41.5K purchased price which means my loan amount will only be 31.5K. Any possible reason why the XXX Bank didn't approve my submission request of 31.5K and only approved 29.5K despite a 10K downpayment from my end? Or could it be the 2K will go to the dealer? Does that means i have to top up another 2K to match the loan submission of 31.5K? I've 2 more application's pending and still awaiting for their reply. Sorry, very green in buying 2nd hand car... Thanks!
  21. Ok, cut the story short, friend's car got rear ended by a JB car in JB. Now boot cannot close. I'm wondering if claiming against the JB car is actually feasible in this case. It's a clear cut case but the legal and paperwork entanglement may take months or even years to settle. And by a twist of fate, somebody from a workshop in SG was around the scene and he immediately started touting his services to my friend, saying he can get the claim successfully against the JB car, if claim cannot go through no need to pay a single cent, bla bla bla, lip service and you know what la.. Another strange occurence, when my friend went to his insurer's authorised accident reporting centre to make the report, the guy there told him there are only 2 local workshops that can claim against Malaysian cars, and that this workshop tout at the accident scene is one of them. My own opinion to this matter is: 1. The accident might be staged for the workshop tout to work his magic 2. Even if the accident is not staged, it is extremely hard to get the claim through due to the laziness from our motor insurers 3. Only 2 workshops in whole of Singapore that can do claims against Malaysian cars? Sure or not?? Anyone of you got any advice or information to share with regards to the insurance claims portion of this case? Please share share. Tried searching but nothing fruitful turned up. Thanks.
