  1. Is it necessary to switch off air con and radio?
  2. hi all, when playing radio channels, the sound is very flat. Almost like a laptop speaker However, when playing CDs, the sound is better. can hear the bass and mids difference. any idea why? my amp and front components are ported from my previous car, and they sounded equally good with radio and CDs. i'm using a Sony HU that came stock with the FL Lancers, front JBL components, a single 4-ch amp powering the front and woofer, and a 10" Cadence woofer. Rear speakers are stock and powered by the HU. i installed my ICE at a shop at Mackenzie. He said "its like that one".
  3. I just heard an ad on radio today, on Class 95. I am totally irked by it. It was comparing your girlfriend to a bicycle and a car. Come on... talk about prized "possessions". I find it very demeaning to women. The ad was trying to project the person who chooses this car as someone very cool and sophisticated, but i think it had the opposite effect - very crass and snobbish....
  4. Hi Bros, i haven installed any ICE for my ride yet juz planning to start but a bit lost on where and what to check out 1st.My frens told me to look around shops 1st b4 commitment. Then i saw this Shop along commonwealth rd,towards queenstown Mrt stn.Sori didn't catch the name as i was driving past but saw a car wif its door open in the shop........any bro here hv any idea of th eshop's contact or conform its a ICE shop if not do kindly drop me some contacts of such shops.
  5. To all A5 Octavia owners, I believe the after-market 1 DIN headunit provided by CA is installed with the following procedures: - A rectangular aperture is cut in the blank plastic cover. - The mounting frame for the 1 DIN headunit is pushed into the aperture. - The headunit is installed, with the face plate protruding from the surface of the plastic panel. Here is a very neat and tidy solution to installing after-market 1DIN headunits from Skoda. If you are keen to get a set, please send me a PM not later than 23rd Januaray 2007. I will be placing a collective order for this item with a Skoda dealer in Austria. The price is SGD135 inclusive of the 20% value-added tax applicable in Austria.
  6. This is my original email to MDA: Hi, I have some questions on the car radio licence scheme in Singapore which need your clarification: 1. Why is there a need for car owners (with receivers) to pay car licence whereas owners of MP3 players, handphones, alarm clocks with radio are exempted from the same fee? How about users accessing the radio free from the internet? 2. Is Singapore following some international standards in this radio licence scheme? Could you provide some examples? 3. What is the licence fee used for? Are not the radio stations already privatised? 4. I do not listen the radio on my receiver. However, the receiver is needed for my mp3 playback. Do you have a disabling service for the radio reception on my receiver without the need to remove the entire unit? Looking for the favourable reply. Thanks. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is the formal reply. Nice attempt but of zero substance: We refer to your email of 21 December 2006 on the above subject. We would like to explain that a vehicle radio licence is required as long as a radio receiver is installed in the vehicle, regardless of the nature or frequency of use of the broadcasting device. The collection of both TV and Radio licence fees is still necessary to ensure that the public has access to public service broadcast (PSB) programmes in the four official languages. Such broadcasts include current affairs, information, culture, local sports, quality drama, children’s and minority language programmes. These are local programmes that help keep Singaporeans informed about issues of relevance to them, bond the various community groups, and help to anchor local audiences to Singapore. Unlike mass entertainment programmes, PSB programmes often do not attract sufficient advertising revenue and hence need to be supported. Besides Singapore, many countries like UK, Japan, France, Norway and Germany collect TV licence fees to fund their TV stations. Funding support for such programmes has enabled our broadcast services to offer greater balance and variety in their programming to serve the needs of our society. There have also been many developments for audiences in Singapore since 1994, including an increase in the number of free-to-air channels from 16 radio and 4 free-to-air TV channels in 1994 to 18 radio and 6 free-to-air TV channels currently, as well as developments in new technologies such as digital audio and digital TV broadcasting. All these have been achieved although the licence fees have remained unchanged since 1994. For household who have taken up TV Licences, they do not require to apply for household radio, mobile phones and MP3 players. Thank you for your attention on this matter. Yours sincerely Tan Jennie (Ms) Customer Service Officer for Director Customer & Licensing Services
  7. I need to settle this before the car radio license becomes the next item to go "UP".... I cannot understand the need for this license. Where does the money go to? Maintain the quality of radio waves??? If this is the reasoning, then everyone with mp3 players and handphones that are equipped with FM tuners should pay a similar fee right? And as far as I know, I have no knowledge of any country that collects fees for car radio. Can any one explain on this?

  19. Hi folks, 1. Does anyone know if a head unit imported directly from US works equally well in Singapore? 2. I understand that some sets are equipped with Sirius Satellite Radio Function, and hence, do we need an antenna of sorts to receive the satellite transmission? Is there a subscription service we need to pay for? 3. Say, we purchase such a set, and we are not using the Sirius Satellite Transmission, are we able to fix the head unit without the Satellite Antenna, and linked it to our stock Antenna instead? Workable? Thanks, Ed
  20. which means its running on battery... will the battery die faster? Or it's better to turn on the engine?
  21. This morning, when I started up my engine, my radio powered up as per normal. However, after a few seconds, everything went dead. I noticed that the CD player was still playing, but the HU shut down, an there was no display at all. However, I was still able to eject and insert CDs into the disc changer. Shutting down the engine didn't help at all. The disc was still playing, and the HU was still dead. As a last resort, I took out the fuse and placed it back again. It was only then that the radio came back to life. Anyone else encountered this before as well? Wonder what c**p did Starsauto put there.
