  1. 1. Impose smaller quota for < 1600cc cars. If you realise, those are the ones that causes slowdown on slopes because they crawl like turtle 2. Charge COE based on volumetric size. Why does Honda Civic 2L pay the same COE as Camry 2L where Camry is clearly the bigger car? Afterall, traffic is contributed by how much space each vehicle takes up on the road 3. Give COE rebates with family with kids. we want them to maximise the use of transportation in a car, not taking up space on the MRT with that stroller 4. Implement a car pool lane, they have that in USA. Any car with more than one passenger can use the lane.
  2. let's lim some cyber kopi here..... ..... no specific tkss topics here.... just let the 'winds carry the flow'.....
  3. read this: http://www.businessinsider.com/there-are-n...-america-2010-9 and this: http://www.businessinsider.com/the-chinese...-dramatically-1 and see the resemblance in sgp?
  4. We see bikers zooming/zig-zaging everyday.... today I saw something else: Somewhere on an expressway, about 7pm... one young man riding his sports bike, gf behind (maybe sister?) in shorts and tube... what caught my eyes was not her shapely body, but the way she was playing her game pad: sitting high up at the back seat of the bike, both hands holding it/playing with it, oblivious to her surroundings or where bf's bike is going.... she must be good in balancing herself without having to hold on to her bf or the bike.... what if he suddenly jams brakes or changes direction? maybe she's stunt show performer?
  5. Great voice, great guy..... Very inspiring, all the best to him! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=elaXeN15isM...ature=topvideos
  6. Really wonder how the lazy ones survive in this industry. Only know how to use Power Search which doesn't give details as in printed ads. End up asking all the questions that the printed ad has.
  7. http://motoring.asiaone.com/Motoring/Drive...119-259025.html No real need to drive in S'pore By Amy Yeong WHEN I graduated from junior college in 1999, my parents asked if I would like to learn how to drive. >>I guess in 1999 she was 19 years old...so in 2011 she would be 30. It is a good skill to have, they said. And we will help pay for your lessons, they added for good measure. I refused. At the age of 19, I did not see the point of learning how to drive. More importantly, I was terrified of crashing the family car. Besides, why bother when my father often gave me a lift to wherever I wanted to go? >> A-Ha its her fear of driving/crashing! Some more got father to drive her around, no need to fork out fuel or petrol.....SHIOK lah! A few years later, my mother broached the topic again. "I'll sponsor your lessons, how about that?" she offered. Again, I declined. The family car had just been upgraded to a shiny charcoal-grey Toyota Altis and I was worried about denting it. I would have less qualms about damaging my own car, but buying my own ride was out of the question. >> Again she expressed her real reason why she says driving is not a need in Singapore!! Fast-forward to the present. "Do you ever intend to get your driver's licence?" asked my mother, this time in a tone of exasperation mixed with resignation. The family car is now a seven-seater multi-purpose vehicle. I am certain I will not make it out of the carpark in one piece. Anxiety over potential damage to the family vehicle aside, I've never seen a real need to learn how to drive, and no one has successfully convinced me otherwise. >> Most likely her BF/hubby also got car to drive her around....double SHIOK lah! Driving is expensive and stressful in Singapore, and I would rather let my mind drift while taking public transport than to stay alert all the time while driving. >> I can save my money to buy LV and Gucci, let my BF/hubby spent his money on car n petrol! And anyone who argues that taking a taxi is much more expensive than owning a car has not done his sums properly - unless he travels multiple times across the island every single day. I am admittedly an anomaly among my peers, many of whom had obtained their driver's licences - or even bought their own cars - by the time they graduated from university. If you have a real need to drive and can afford to finance your own car, I say: Good for you. But to learn how to drive just because everyone else is doing so, or just because it is a useful skill (that you know you won't need in the foreseeable future), seems to me a colossal waste of time and resources. >>Waste of resources? HUR? It makes no sense to learn how to drive unless you have frequent access to a car, or are capable of financing one. Otherwise, you end up driving infrequently - or, worse still, only once every few years. >>Graduate earning how much cannot afford, then how? Your driving skills will decay to a point where you no longer dare to get behind the wheel. And even if you do, your lack of practice might make you a road menace. The only reason why I would even consider learning how to drive would be if I intend to have a family of my own - baby strollers are a nightmare tomanage on public transport. >>I think she is implying that she is Definately not going to have kids. 30 years old woman saying this type of thing on national papers...challenging the gov is it? Meanwhile, the public-transport system serves me perfectly well. And I am fortunate to have a doting father and brother who would chauffeur me around when it is convenient for them to do so. >>Come on 30 years old still staying with rich parents is it? Otherwise, I can always hail a cab. After factoring in peak-hour surcharges and Electronic Road Pricing charges, it is still cheaper to take a taxi daily than to get my own car. Indeed, it would be possible for me to take a cab to work every day for a decade before my taxi expenses approach the cost of buying my own vehicle. Given this state of affairs, it is little wonder I refuse to get my driver's licence. Fundamentally, I believe that driving is a luxury - not a necessity - for someone in my circumstances. Until the day I can comfortably afford a car, I will resist the lure of that blueish-green licence. >>If her opinion of car is expensive.....then how is she going to buy her HDB or condo??
  8. Came across this news from wan bao. Look at photos - left is Spore celebrity hairstylist Jonal Chong. Right is a Spanish movie director... Maybe answer is here? The one on the far right shows Hollywood A-list actress Nicole Kidman standing beside Spanish director Alejandro Amenabar. Click here to find out more! The other shows her in the same pose with Singapore hairstylist Jonal Chong. Both look almost identical. In both pictures, the Australian actress is wearing the same black tube dress lined with vertical silver stripes. Amenabar and Mr Chong appear to share the same get-up of a black jacket over a blue shirt. An online search reveals that two websites, namely bbc.co.uk and Hollywood.com, have the same Amenabar/Kidman shot. Further checks show that it was taken on Aug 7, 2001, outside the Directors' Guild of America's screening auditorium in Los Angeles. The auditorium was screening the premiere of Amenabar's acclaimed psychological horror film, The Others, which starred Kidman as a mother who lived in a house with two children. There are also other shots of Kidman and Amenabar at the same event posted online. my paper met Mr Chong yesterday afternoon at his salon, Jonal Chong Hair Couture, in Orchard Central. When asked about his picture with Kidman, Mr Chong, 48, said in Mandarin: "The picture was taken in 2002 at the premiere of Birth in London." Birth was a 2004 film directed by British director Jonathan Glazer and starred Kidman as a widow who was convinced that her dead husband had been reincarnated as a 10-year-old boy. Asked to explain the similarity between the two premiere photographs, he said: "I don't know... I can't explain it. I don't know why Nicole's head is facing the same direction. I don't know why the background looks similar." When pressed further to offer a possible explanation for the striking resemblance between the photographs, he said that "it's wrong to cut and paste" and repeatedly muttered: "Who would want to smear my reputation?" Asked if he has other pictures of himself and Kidman, he said: "I have many but I left them in London." He said he has a hair salon in London. He said this is the only photo of him and Kidman which he brought home from London because "it showed me attending my first movie premiere with Nicole", he explained. Mr Chong's business name card (above) also features the same Kidman photograph. It is printed with a handwritten message that says: "To Jonal Chong, Hair Couture, all the best, Nicole Kidman." The same message was also printed on a large poster of Kidman which was hanging in the salon yesterday. He added that he would have gone to Los Angeles to style her hair for the Golden Globe Awards at The Beverly Hilton hotel on Jan 16, if not for the amount of business he has to handle for the upcoming Chinese New Year. Mr Chong, who is also the managing director of his salon, was interviewed previously by my paper. In an August 2009 article, he said he had been based in London for seven years and was Kidman's hairstylist from 2000 to 2005. He also said he styled hair for American actress Katherine Heigl and British actor Hugh Grant. In the article, he also said that British actor Ewan McGregor contacted him to style his hair for Moulin Rouge's London premiere. It was there that Kidman reportedly hired him on the spot. He told my paper yesterday that he took a five-day advanced course at Vidal Sassoon School in October in 1985. He returned to Singapore in 2005 for family matters. He also added that he continued to style Kidman's hair from 2006 to 2008 on an ad-hoc basis. An online search shows that over the past decade, Mr Chong was a director in a pawn shop, Kwong Hin Pawn Shop. He is also a director in three businesses, namely Jonal Chong Hair Couture, Jonal Chong International and Savoir Fair. He was also featured prominently in a series of print advertisements for his salon last month and on Sunday. [email protected]

  10. IDodge Viper SRT 10. 100 more horsepower than the previous version. That gives it 500bhp and it is normally aspirated. See those tires? They are fat looking ones. Front is 18", rear is 19". See that nice looking hole on the side skirt? That is no side skirt. That is the exhaust pipe. Not a good car to bring girls out with. Burn one 50ct coin size burn mark on their legs and you will receive hell. No traction control, only balls. Once you floor it, nothing but raw power will bring you out of that turn or kill you. Ah yes! The typical lines you will see in an muscle American car.
  11. yo football fans.....who is going to stay up late tonite (tmr morning) to watch this match? Who will win this BIG match....or maybe a draw will be better for both teams
  12. If this is widely adopted. This mean, gahmen can open trace our where about. (AKA intrude of privacy.) Althought they are doing that secretly already. http://www.straitstimes.com/BreakingNews/S...ory_607189.html <H3 class=date_story>Nov 25, 2010 </H3><H1 class=storyheadline>Real-time traffic info on GPS </H1>By Lai Han-Wei <H4 class=piccaption>Motorists can soon get more options in receiving real-time and localised traffic information with the launch of the Traffic Message Channel Location Table. -- PHOTO: DIGILIFE</H4> MOTORISTS can soon get more options in receiving real-time and localised traffic information with the launch of the Traffic Message Channel Location Table (TMC-LT). TMC is a technology and protocol for delivering real-time traffic information to drivers. Commonly used in dynamic route navigation where traffic information allows Global Positioning Systems to route drivers around congestion, the technology is growing 'increasingly popular', said the Land Transport Authority on Thursday. However, for TMC to work, a database of location codes for a country's entire road network grid is needed. The Location Table, which stores the location code for a country's road network, is a 'key component' for the traffic messages to be received in TMC format. The development of the Singapore Location Table thus enables live traffic information to be fed directly into the map supplier's data, skipping the need to obtain and convert data. This can help fast track the development process and offer cost savings for the industry, the LTA added. With the Location Table, motorists will get continuous and localised traffic on their navigation devices specific to their route and GPS location. Dr Chin Kian Keong, Group Director, Transportation and Ticketing Technology at the LTA, said: 'The adoption of TMC and development of the Singapore Location Table provides another channel offering drivers easy access to timely and relevant traffic information wherever they are, so that they can decide on the best route to take.'
  13. I spotted a Lamborghini Murcielago Comfort taxi refueling at a petrol station. NTUC Comfort logo, like what you see on the usual Hyundai Sonata Comfort taxis, have not been painted on the doors yet. Wonder if the flag down fare would be more expensive than the Chrysler 300C's $5.00?
  14. Is it really to make money or is it because of a passion for cars? Cause making exotic cars is not as profitable as making mainstream one and some are not even making money. Most of the exotic car companies belongs to big companies that makes mainstream cars other than privately owned..... Tata -> Jarguar Lambo -> VW Bentley -> VW Ferrari -> Fiat Bugatti -> VW Think Porsche is the only one not owned by a company and has share in VW. Thus I just wonder if these cars are created for the passion or for economic reasons?
  15. ....too bad the f--ker drives like an a-----e. In side company grounds, a straight line of 20m, lots of people going around still hard to step hard on the accelerator. Faggot.

  18. .. is how they treat their loyal players... many seasons ago, they dumped their faithful captain Fernando Hierro after winning the Champions League, now they show long-term players Raul and Guti the door.. On the other hand, Barcelona rewarded Puyol another contract extension Man Utd keeps Giggs, Scholes and Neville even they are in their mid-30s Maldini retired with AC Milan Roma's captain Totti is still with the club Chelsea's Terry and Liverpool's Gerrard/Carragher will stay as long as the clubs and fans adore them... is it so hard to find another loyal one-club footballer now? guess Casillas will be dumped after his ability declines in the future..
  19. Do we Singaporeans really know the true cost of a used car when we buy it? We don't and that's sad cause then the dealers set the price and we happily cough up the dough sometimes even thinking that we've got a good deal. Lets take for example a car that's been advertised on SGCarMart... http://www.sgcarmart.com/used_cars/info.ph...882&DL=1277 This pristine unit is on sale for $52,800/- OMV @ Purchase time was $13456 and COE is at $12899 Since the OMV is $13456 we can safely say that the cost of the car itself is 13456, however, you need to add dealer profits etc which would make it closer to $16000 from showroom. So, after 1 year and 11000km, dealers usually take in cars at about 10-15k above paper value and the value of the car itself would be broken down to: $14000 for the actual car $10092 for the PARF value (75% of OMV) $11610 for the remaining COE In total a buyer should be paying $35702 for the car. throw in Used car dealer profits and touch-ups etc and you can add $5000 to that price. Thus, a buyer should be rightfully paying $40702 for the used car. However, because of our lack of information on the actual cost of these things, they can advertise the car for $52,800. A buyer would then ask for discount etc and the dealer would say knock off $2800. That would still make the car easily $10000 ABOVE what it's actual value WITH profits thrown in to be. So before you buy a used car, please, show your intelligence by doing some research first. used car dealers are always making a buck from you when you trade-in your old car for a new one. It's because we make it easy for them to do so in our desperation to own a new car. Cheers!
  20. http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/sin...1068811/1/.html oh I think I failed my maths.... paying more for 1 trip mean saving more in a week?? can someone do the maths??

  23. Imported car Look at the "backseats".... i reckon they'r for putting ur LVs, Pradas etc... super in love with it.
  24. This afternoon at around 1.30pm after coming out from Clarke Quay MRT Station, I was going to cross the traffic light crossing at New Bridge Road (near to an ERP gantry and a bak kut teh shop) heading to Funan. As usual the green man light was on and I was crossing as usual. Then there is this silver P plate car driving at around 50 to 70km/hr towards the traffic crossing without any intention to slow down. As I am also a driver, my instinct told me to stop walking and stand on Lane 1, and true enough, within seconds this car whizzed pass me and beat the red light. I was quite stunned and angry, but too bad I did not note down the car plate number as it had driven too far off. Had I not have the habit of looking for oncoming traffic while crossing the road, or if I was talking on the phone, I might have been seriously injured or even died like the Romanian diplomat's case. So the real life lesson here is, we should not assume that cars will stop at red light. We should take charge of our own safety by looking for oncoming traffic all the time while crossing the road.
  25. Finally, after recent years of Barcelona stealing spotlight, Real Madrid won the title. What an exciting last day in Liga title chase!
