  1. http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/sin...1067886/1/.html SINGAPORE : The "Waterway Terraces" at Punggol have been making waves in the property circle, with 5-room units oversubscribed by 12 times. The Build-to-Order project, which houses 1,072 units, opened for applications on June 30. As of Tuesday evening, the 5-room units saw 12 times the number of applicants. The smaller units are also favoured, with 4-room units in demand at a ratio of 9 applicants to 1 unit. With the closing deadline looming next Tuesday, analysts said applications for the bigger flats will keep streaming in. They are expecting a hundred per cent increase for the 4- and 5-room units

  6. To be honest, this is very, very weak stuff. I think you need at least 2, probably 3 sachets to have similar kick to the ones you find in kopitiam. Accidentally put about 20% too much water in my cup today when trying out this brand. Tasted like coffee flavoured water.

  11. The cost to make an iPod, Xbox, and other electronics has big bottom-line implications at Apple, Microsoft, and their peers. Some companies are willing to swallow losses on some gadgets -- for instance, gaming consoles -- in hopes that they'll make up the difference, and then some, on sales of related gear, such as video game software. Other companies, including Apple, are able to sell many products for a healthy profit from the go Market research company iSuppli takes it upon itself to tear down popular gadgets to find out the price of the component parts and the vendors supplying those ingredients. A rundown of several recent iSuppli teardowns follows -- each slide lists the product, maker, release date, retail price on the release date, and iSuppli's estimate of the cost of materials. Apple iPad Date: March 2010; April 2010 for 3G models Retail price: Starting at $499 Cost of components: $219.35 to $334.95 In the coming months, Apple plans to introduce six models of the iPad -- three with 3G, three without. Researchers at market research firm iSuppli say the mid-range 32-gigabyte 3G model will likely be the most profitable of the six, given its retail price of $729 and estimated material cost of $275.95. Components for the entry-level iPad that sells for $499 will cost $219.35. The high-end 64-gigabyte model, which sells for $829, will cost almost $335 to build. Google Nexus One Date: Jan. 5, 2010 Retail price: Starting at $179 Cost of components: $174 Manufactured by HTC, Google's phone boasts the Android operating system. T-Mobile USA sells the Nexus One for $179 with a two-year contract; Google sells a version without a service contract for $529. Verizon Wireless is expected to begin carrying the Nexus One sometime in 2010. Motorola Droid Date: Nov. 6, 2009 Retail price: Starting at $199 Cost of components: $185 Motorola and Verizon Wireless went to great lengths to promote the Droid, Verizon's first phone running the Android operating system, as the anti-iPhone in TV ads. Verizon Wireless carries the phone for $199 with a two-year contract; it can be purchased contract-free from Best Buy for $599. Apple iPhone 3GS Date: June 19, 2009 Retail price: Starting at $199 Cost of components: $179.16 Apple.com Usually the cost of components goes down from one generation of a product to the next. The iPhone 3G, released in July 2008, cost $53 less to build than the original iPhone, released in 2007. But costs rose by about $5 for the iPhone 3GS. One reason is that the price of memory hasn't declined as quickly as in the past. The newest iPhone comes in two flavors, 16 gigabytes and 32 gigabytes, while the high-end version released in 2008 had 16GB of memory. An improved 3-megapixel camera with auto-focus costs more than the camera used in the previous generation. Finally, a new Samsung applications chip, at $14.46 a pop, costs a dollar more than last year. Palm Pre Date: Expected no later than June 6, 2009 Retail price: Expected to be about $200 Projected cost of components: $137.83 Palm.com Palm (PALM) needs a winner in the Pre, and it's up against some formidable competition in a smart phone field that includes Apple and its iPhone and Research In Motion, maker of the BlackBerry. Boasting a completely new operating system called WebOS, the Pre bears little resemblance to the Treo line of smart phones that Palm has sold for years. Like the iPhone, the Pre sports a so-called multi-touch display that lets the screen react to more than one finger touch at a time. In an analysis of the probably cost of Pre components, iSuppli estimates the display alone runs $39.51, or almost one-fourth the total hardware expense. Add in $15.96 for eight gigabytes of flash memory, $15.41 for wireless components, and $12.39 for the 3-megapixel camera, and you've accounted for more than half of the Pre's estimated hardware cost. Amazon Kindle 2 Date: Feb. 9, 2009 Retail price: $359 Cost of components: $185.49 Amazon.com Amazon's second device to bear the Kindle name is thinner than its predecessor, and in some ways more sophisticated. The main cost-driver is the $60 display designed by E Ink Corp., while a wireless module from Novatel Wireless adds another $39.50 to the cost of materials. An applications chip from Freescale Semiconductor adds another $8.64 while two kinds of memory chips from Samsung add another $6.10. Add in $4.45 for the enclosure, $7.50 for the battery and you've accounted for most of the materials and manufacturing cost of the device, according to iSuppli estimates. Apple iPod Shuffle Date: Mar. 11, 2009 Retail price: $49 (4GB) Cost of components: $21.77 Apple.com The latest iPod shuffle is so small -- less than 2 inches long -- there's hardly room for parts or controls. The most costly components inside are $6 worth of flash memory for storing music. In the unit examined by iSuppli, the memory was supplied by Samsung. The tiny Apple device also includes a Samsung-made chip that handles music and control functions and costs $5.98. Add in the cost of the battery ($1.55) and the headphones with the inline volume controls ($1.20), and you've accounted for about two-thirds of a device that costs less than $22 to make, including packaging. Research In Motion BlackBerry Storm Date: Nov. 21. 2008 Retail price: $249 before rebate Cost of components: $202.89 BlackBerry.com Research In Motion's latest effort to outpace Apple in the hotly contested smart phone market, the BlackBerry Storm sports a unique touch screen design that evokes the iPhone in many ways. Reports say RIM sold more than a half a million Storms in its first month on the market. All told, the materials used to make it cost $202.89, according to an iSuppli teardown analysis. Surprisingly, its most expensive component is not the screen, but its Qualcomm-made wireless chip, which costs nearly $35. Research In Motion BlackBerry Bold Date: Oct. 2008, in the U.S. (expected release date) Retail price: Expected to be about $300 Cost of components: $169.41 RIM.com Research In Motion kicks its smart phone battle with Apple into overdrive with the release of three new devices this year, including the BlackBerry Bold. This device cost just under $170 to build and may sell for as much as $300 when it

  13. It's not easy to find good manual car wash nowadays.. I have been to several ones trying to see if any I can really feel satisfied after the wash.. still havent found any. Yeah some will tell me want it clean wash myself la.. Just 2 examples for reference.. maybe u wanna avoid these: 1. Bedok North Road SPC.. Said to be snow wash.. sprayed from rear.. and the foam didnt even reached the bonnet.. And prior to that, no spraying away the surface dirt n dust. They splashed a bucket of water. Purpose is to spray away the dust or sand particles so that wont end up scratching the car. And so they started to rubba my car aft spraying foam. No foam on the bonnet, so they pushed all the foam from rubba the roof to the windscreen and bonnet. Before I know it, the guy asked my to move forward.. huh??? my front bumper havent rubba rubba. So started spraying.. Within a min asked me to drive out for wiping dry. I drove to drying area, came out.. WOW! foam on the front bumper. The china man wiped.. like swinging the cloth on the surface. Very fast.. told me ok. I looked at him, directed his sights to the rear bumer.. knn rear bumper never wipe dry said ok.. He swung his cloth across.. and said ok.. knn.. I paid and left. 2. Tampines SPC opposite The Tropica.. Paid before they started.. This one sprayed alot of water to wash away.. Sprayed foam also till windscreen.. Probably the hose too short for all manual car wash huh.. They started rubba.. Then signalled ok.. to drive forward to spray the away the foam. Knn.. front bumper and grill also never clean.. They bascially rely on spraying away the foam in attempts to spray away the dirt. After spraying, drove out to wipe dry area. Went into the minimart to get some stuff, came back they're gone.. I saw water flowing down on windscreen. They did wipe, but probably never wringe the cloth. I got it on the wiper.. Wow.. the water swept aside by the wipers is more than what i would encounter on a drizzling day.. The search for a better manual car wash continues.. Any recommendations from anyone? Pls.. dun tell me wash myself.. I am talking abt standard of manual car wash..
  14. Hi Gurus with TC cars, I'm sure many of you have play with your TC engines and most probably one of the most popular device is to add a Electronic Boost Controller like HKS EVC and similar. My ride is relatively stock 1.5 turbo with a stock boost of 0.6bar, I avoided putting a EVC due to warranty issues. But I would want to know if putting a EVC really make a big difference. (say configuration the EVC to allow up to 0.8bar to 1bar boost) Currently, I DIYed removing a resistor pill from the solenoid allowing it to peak at 0.9bar, holding at 0.8bar boost. But maybe I'm used to the boost and didn't felt much of a difference. In fact the turbo lag seem to be slightly longer. Of perhaps removing the pill only trick the meters to boost at 0.8bar while the engine ECU is smart enough to offset the boost, hence output power is same. I know boosting up the car doesn't mean the horsepower gains will be exponential and removing the solenoid pill may not be the best solution, but I'm afraid by putting back the pill and buying the EVC to set it to boost at 0.8bar will make no difference. Since mine ride is stock setup with stock muffler/stock SMIC and stock plastic dump valve, ECU, etc. Any Gurus done both, both anyone here can share the difference and whether the EVC is really worth investing.
  15. 1stly i wanna clarify , i have nothing to do with the below stated workshop. i just find that the workshop is really going the extra miles in extending their services even on a holiday eve till late hours. on 2009 new year day's eve (thursday), i went to this workshop at BKS at northlink building and had my ride serviced , oil changed , sparkplugs , transmission oil etc. when things are done , i collected my ride and left the workshop at 6.15pm. on my way home back i start to feel my ride having weird vibrations even during normal driving so i thought maybe i would go back to the workshop to get it checked out on saturday instead when they open. after i showered and prepared to go out 8.30pm, i start my car at the carpark.car was vibrating really bad even during idling and had problem driving off.called the workshop boss's mobile phone to seek advice on what could be the problem. he immediately asked where am i and if i have the time , i can drive back to the wokshop immediately. i asked if he is still in the workshop he said no and he is home already.i was worried about my ride and i need to use my car that night so i made my way down to northlink .reached the workshop around 9pm and waited for awhile.the boss came and open the workshop and shortly after , another car came with 2 mechanics.so the 3 of them worked on my car until nearly 12am. when they finally solved the issue (too lengthy to go into details) , i asked how much is the labour fees and all that.the boss just told me its ok i dun need to fork out any money at all.and when i left they still bid goodbye and wish me happy new yr with their big smile. doesnt matter what fault or even if my ride only encountered problems after the service it or what, but still the boss is very helpful, responsible and went the extra mile to re-open the workshop at night just to help rectify my car's problem . THUMBS UP TO BKS Motor works!

  17. the cost of the jazz is so high that the amt of saving in petrol deems insignificant. lets not talk abt branding etc cost of avante/forte merely cost 40-45k for 1.6l, the price difference of 15-20k btw these cars and jazz is so much...lets take avante as an example (1.6l, savings of 20k for S model) these 20k savings can actually be used to pump petrol for 2-3 yrs i guess....whereas for jazz almost 70k for 1.5l, 60k for 1.3l....the upfront cost is already so much, if to add in the petrol cost for the next 2-3 yrs, the overall cost will be abt 80-90k...so in this sense, jazz is a very expensive car which is fuel efficient but make no money sense at all..... can someone enlighten me?

  19. As we all know it, World Cup has always been a kelong business. But this is the first time I saw such kelong blatantness....just watch the France-Ireland qualification match last night. It was such a blatant handball from Henry, that he even tell the referee about it but the ref says it's a goal. "It was a handball, but I'm not the ref. I told (the referee) but he said to me the same: 'You are not the ref.'" I feel the pain for all the Irish fans. Henry didn't cheat.....the officials did. Yesterday, although France qualified, none of their players walked into dressing room with their heads held high. The Irish players may have lost, but they can walk proud.
