  1. Kinda wary of Italian cars. Had Alfa before have lotsa problems though it was high on the passion quotient. How about Renault? Will I be walking into, the same kinda problems I had with alfas ifi get a Renault? Eyeing the Renault Megane RS...
  2. Renault has signed on as official Technical Partner of Spark Racing Technology to supply Formula E cars that will contest in the FIA Formula E Championship. Formula E is a class of auto racing governed by the Federation Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) and is intended to be the highest class of competition for one-make, single-seat, electrically-powered racing cars. The series was conceived in 2012, with the inaugural race to be held in 2014. Demonstration events have been planned for the second half of 2013. Former Formula One driver Lucas di Grassi will be the series' test driver. Forty two cars were ordered have been ordered with Formula One team - McLaren - providing the motor, transmission and electronics that will be used by all the cars while Dallara Automobili will construct the chassis. Ten host cities are planning to hold the races and will occur exclusively on street circuits including in cities like Rio de Janeiro, Rome, Bangkok, Beijing and Miami - among others. The agreement was signed by Patrice Ratti, Renault Sport Technologies Managing Director and as a Renault SAS representative, Alejandro Agag, CEO of Formula E Holdings and Frederic Vasseur, President of Spark Racing Technologies. Renault's ongoing involvement in motor racing's series provides it with a unique technological laboratory, giving it an edge not only in the world of production vehicles but also on the race track. Renault's technological excellence extends not only in F1 but also in all Z.E. range. The forty two Formula E single-seaters built for the beginning of the first season will be aptly named 'Spark-Renault'.
  3. Anybody heard of Pegasus Racing Asia ? Apparently it's a new company in Singapore, offering an event on 28th Dec where you can drive a Formula Renault Race Car.Looks like a Formula 1 Car,drives like a Formula 1 Car but has less horsepower. The event is on the F1 track in Sepang and participants can drive around 50 laps in several sessions.Great way to get the experience of how it feels to be a Formula Race Driver and how it is to drive such a car by yourself. I think a normal road driving license is enough and no race experience required. Want to book a place, but don't know where I can do this.Their website is not yet up and running.Booking for the event closes mid November and for sure there are limited seats available. Please help !!!! I don't want to loose this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity
  4. French automaker Renault and British designer Ross Lovegrove have collaborated on a new nature inspired EV concept - the Twin'Z. The 980kg weighing Twin'Z is essentially an EV, rear-wheel driven car featuring a rear mounted motor that is good for a range of 160km. The motor produces 68bhp and 260Nm of torque for a top speed of 130km/h. The concept aims to bring together two worlds in which design plays a prominent role - furniture and automobiles. The design language centres around the phases of the human life cycle represented as a six-petal flower. Inspiration comes from iconic models, such as the Renault 5 and Renault Twingo. The location of the rear-mounted motor and four lithium-ion battery packs allows an ample cabin space on top of renowned handling that makes it a delight to drive. The human life cycle inspired design fits Renault
  5. It feature a 0.9Liter straight-3 engine with output of 90 bhp and 135 nm of torque Just that maybe the COE now may cost this car over 100k+ , if not this car is worth it , as it has only a 0.9liter engine = low tax 90bhp and 135nm of torque = enough to drive around Singapore road and i bet it's more fuel saving then a Honda Fit but not a prius.
  6. Anybody care to comments? Pros and cons? Am helping a friend looking for 07 1.6 sedan with 6.2k depreciation. Currently market doesn't allow him to look at Toyota (VIOS) or Nissan (Latio) as the depreciation is ridiculously high at 8k-9k plus. Only 4 door sedan please. strictly no hatchback. Would interested to know more on Megane in terms of maintenance, fc and parts cost compared to GLX and Avante. So far, Megane has the highest OMV of 19-20K with low depreciation of 5k+ annually and 10k scrap return.
  7. Renault plans to cut 7,500 jobs in France by 2016 as a result of declining sales in Europe. This represents 17 percent of its current workforce in the country. The company would achieve its target mainly by not replacing retiring workers and by offering early retirement. The French carmaker's sales in Europe sank 19% between January to November 2012, which is the steepest among major car manufacturers in the region. The plan would save Renault 400 million euros a year in annual fixed cost, which is required to lower its break-even point. Despite the reduction in workforce, CEO Carlos Ghosn announced that no plants in France will be closed. Year 2012 is tough but 2013 is not expected to be smooth riding either. Carlos said at the Detroit Motor Show that he expects the European market to be "difficult" in 2013, predicting that car sales would fall about 3%, after contracting 8 % in 2012. Renault's action adds further woes to France's ailing industrial sector.
  8. Pizza's here usually gets delivered with Class 2b motorcycles though I have heard a well to-do individual uses his Mercedes. Order a hot pizza from Domino's in the town of Swindon, U.K. and you will be greeted by a delivery man in a Renault Twizy. Besides the standard Domino
  9. If you think that the global economy is on its way to recovery, think again. Cumulative car sales in the European Union (EU) from January to November 2012 have fallen to a 19-year low. It dropped 7.2 percent to 11.7 million units, the lowest figure since 1993. The decline was propelled by a 10 percent plunge in November. The European Automobile Manufacturers' Association expects a full-year market contraction to about 12 million cars, the fewest cars sold in Europe since 1995. Below are the November statistics of some of the affected car makers: Brand Renault: -27.4 percent PSA Peugeot Citroen: -16 percent GM (Opel, Vauxhall, Chevrolet): -13 percent Ford: -10.2 percent VW: -2.5 percent However, BMW and Mercedes managed to buck the market trend and recorded sales growth of 0.4 percent and 1.5 percent for November respectively. Perhaps, workers in Fiat and Peugeot should start looking for job opportunities with the two German car makers as their companies have announced plans to cut 1,500 jobs each.
  10. Nowadays, when we mention the term pocket rocket (with regards to automobiles) the first car or cars that comes to our minds are models such as the Volkswagen Golf GTI, Peugeot 207 GTI and the Mini Cooper JCWs. The Japanese have their hot hatches too, for example the Suzuki Swift Sport. These are the examples of today
  11. The rumour mill has been churning out news of Renault preparing a new Clio Williams. Ever since Renault signed a new contract with the Williams Formula One team to supply them with engines, many hoped that the French automaker would release a new version of the ever popular hot hatch. The original Renault Clio Williams was released in 1993 and it was said that the car was launched to celebrate Nigel Mansell
  12. Hi dear all, What is your opinion on the car above?Fuel consumption, wear and tear, and most importantly, servicing intervals and cost because I am all fine about installaments, insurance blah blah blah but they say Renault items are very expensive and their servicing (Wearnes) price cut throat! Haha! :o
  13. Move over, Polo GTI, here comes the 2013 Renault Clio RS 200. As the name suggest, this is the performance version of the French mini hatchback. Unlike its naturally-aspirated predecessor, the new model is powered by a turbocharged 1.6-litre engine mated to a six-speed dual clutch transmission. Despite losing 400cc, the new RS produces the same power at 197bhp. What is more impressive is that turbocharged lump generates 26Nm more torque and achieves its peak torque at a much lower 1750rpm (vs 5400rpm in the old model). The pocket rocket allows the driver to select between normal and sport mode via an 'RS' button. In addition, a 'Race mode' for the transmission can be chosen and gear change would only take a mere 150 milliseconds. The car will also be offered with an optional Launch Control system. Although the century sprint timing of the new RS is not released, it is speculated to be below 6.5 seconds in 'Race mode'. The exterior styling details warn the rest of the road users not to mess with this little mean machine. The blackened side mirrors, LED DRLs, redesigned bumpers, red brake calipers, 17" black alloys differentiate the RS variant from its lesser brethren. On the inside, the RS gets red trimmings all over and sports bucket seats to keep your butt in place during hard cornering. Other standard features include touchscreen navigation, Bluetooth and USB connectivity as well as Renault
  14. Perhaps a sign of worsening economic conditions in Spain, Renault is giving away a free Twizy electric car for every Laguna, Latitude or Espace model purchased. The offer from Renault is a drastic attempt to move vehicles out of the dealer lots, after new vehicle sales in Spain fell to a 19-year low in the first half of 2012. Both the Laguna and the Espace are unpopular models for the French automaker and this could be the reason why they have been removed from the UK dealership in February. Priced from 6990 euros, the Spanish-built Twizy could be a slow-selling model as well and hence the bundled deal. The Twizy measures 2,320mm long, 1,191mm wide and 1,461mm tall. It is powered by a 20bhp electric motor generating 57Nm of torque and weighs 450kg including the battery pack. It has a maximum driving range of 100km and takes three hours to charge using a 220V 10A outlet. The car has a maximum speed of 45km/h and can thus be driven in most European countries by drivers from 16 years old without a driving license. If the car is driven at maximum speed, it means that the car has to stop and get charged up after 2.2 hours. Given that a full charge takes three hours, I guess it does not sound very inviting to own one.

Despite all the gloom and doom in Europe, French automaker, Renault, posted a respectable first-half performance that beats the forecast by analysts. Earnings before interest, taxes and one-time items dropped 23 percent to 482 million euros from 630 million euros a year ago. This figure beats the average 363 million euros estimated by seven analysts surveyed by Bloomberg. The better-than-expected performance is supported by the increased sales in Latin America and Russia. Renault sales in Latin America rose 20 percent to 215,149 vehicles, while deliveries in Russia and other former Soviet states jumped 29 percent to 103,926. "Management has a very good focus on all the important issues," said Kristina Church, a Barclays analyst in London who awarded an 'overweight rating' on Renault
  16. The Renault Zoe was recently showcased at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show and even before the official launch, later this year, the Zoe has set a new world record for distance traveled in an electric car in 24 hours. It really looks like Renault wants to prove that an electric car can travel sensible distances in a sensible period of time. Renault ran a pair of production-spec Zoes at the Aubevoye speed ring in Normandy, France. The Renault Zoe is powered by a 22kWh lithium ion battery pack which drives a 87bhp synchronous electric motor. The car has a maximum torque of 220Nm and a top speed of 135km/h. The car's NEDC Cycle range is 210km and it's Cameleon charger allows the Zoe to charge at any power level, taking around 30 minutes to nine hours. In the record attempt, the car covered 1,617km or 363 laps of the Aubevoye, in 24 hours and it took 15 drivers to take turns at the steering wheel. The feat averaged to an average speed of just 67km/h but it also included the stoppage time for the car to recharge its batteries. Since the Cameleon charger could take power of any level, the car relied on a fast 43kW charge during the record attempt and this allows to batteries to restore an eighty percent charge in less than 30 minutes. The car had to be charged nine times during the attempt. Renault is hailing this record as proof that the Renault Zoe is just as practical as a normal car. A Renault spokesperson in charge of their electric vehicles mentioned that this feat is a superb technical and human adventure and the victory is a joint commitment to showcase the quality of Renault electric vehicles. The previous record for the above mentioned feat was held by Citroen with their AX CEA which covered 1,279km and the Nissan Leaf could only manage to cover 1,250km in 24 hours. 17. After several rendered leaks on the internet, Renault has finally revealed the much awaited Alpine A110-50 concept car. The car will make its debut during the 2012 Monaco Grand Prix. The Alpine A110-50 is a tribute to the 50th anniversary of the legendary Alpine Renault A110 Berlinetta rumours are that the car will mark the return of the Alpine brand. The Alpine A110-50 concept adopts much of its styling from another Renault concept car which is the Renault DeZir that was showcased during the 2010 Paris Motor Show. The reason why Renault borrowed much of the DeZir's styling instead of creating something similar to the A110 Berlinetta is due to the fact that they do not want to create a retro-styled show car. The engine used in the Alpine A110-50 is a 3.5-litre 24-valve V6 engine that generates around 400bhp at 7200 rpm and 412Nm of torque at 6200rpm. Additional performance figures were not released by Renault but the automaker has indicated that power is sent to the rear wheels through an F1-styled sequential gearbox with six forward gears. The driver can change gears with the shift paddles, mounted behind the steering wheels. A limited slip differential is installed into the car but it does not have modern driving aids such as ABS and ESP. Braking is assured by six piston callipers at the front and four piston callipers at the rear. The A110-50
  18. Recently, the French automaker released a teaser image of their upcoming car named the Talisman, which will make its world premiere at the Beijing Motor Show come 23 April 2012. According to the Webster online dictionary: "A talisman is an object held to act as a charm to avert evil and bring good fortune. It is something producing apparently magical or miraculous effects". This is certainly the effect that Renault hopes to achieve with its soon-to-be introduced Talisman sedan in China. Actually, the Renault Talisman is not 'all new' so to say. It is actually a rebadged version of the Samsung SM7 sedan, which was launched in South Korean back in Aug 2011. For those unaware, Renault bought a 70 percent stake in Samsung back in September 2000. In South Korean, the SM7 is offered with a choice of two Nissan V6 engines, namely a 2.5-litre generating 190hp with 243Nm of torque and a 3.5-litre producing 258hp and 330Nm. In today's age and technology, such outputs can be derived from a 2.0-litre turbocharged lump. The Talisman is expected to get similar power plants. This not the first time Renault is selling a rebadged Samsung outside South Korean. The Renault Latitude that we are getting in Singapore is actually a rebadged Samsung SM5. Renault SM7
  19. Hi Bros & Sisters, I am thinking of buying a secondhand 4 years old Kangoo. Need comments and help from bros and sisters who owned or previously owned such a model. How much is the servicing ? How much is the insurance ? More expensive then car insurance ? How much road tax ? Reliable or not ? Any weakness ? And everything good or bad about the car that you know of ? Thanks and have a nice day.
  20. [extract] When Renault took over Dacia in the late 1990s, the Romanian automaker car models look rather drab. Most of their cars had boxy shaped shells, as though the cars were from the 1970s or 1980s. Some would contribute this to the Communists influence in Romania (could

My friend's one going to piang very soon and searching for a good workshop to do it. Appreciate if anybody could share the cost and experience of overhauling the vehicle. Thanks!
