  3. If COE for 1.6L or below cross $30k or even $40k, will our taxi company raise their rental fee? Then in order to maintain the income of taxi folks, taxi fare will be adjusted up? Or, old taxi got deregistered. But new COE too expensive for new taxi. So, the taxi population will decrease? Tourists complain cannot get taxi? Hmmm... Not easy to work in LTA.
  4. Hi bros, Situation here is as such. My friend rented a hyundai verna for 2 days. yesterday while driving along a 2 lane 1 way traffic at pasir ris, a taxi in front of him ebrake to pick up passanger. his right lane was clear so he signal n swerve to the right lane. but behind him there was also a lorry from the left lane who saw the taxi in front n swerve to the right too. ended up both vehicles swerve to the right at the same time but the lorry was travelling too fast and banged my friend's car. Anyway does not matter how accident occurred impt thing is my friend is confident in winning the case. Now he goes back n tells the car rental company about the situation n my friend himslef suggest to private settle. but the bloddy idiot company wants to claim from him $5000 which is impossible cause his damage was like $150. $5000 because he claims 4 days loss of use is worth $5000. So nvm lan lan got to fight insurance. Now car rental company say better not to claim insurance. But my friend say he bo bian cant fork out 5k plus repair for his rental car amounting to about 6k plus loss of use about 7k. Now the insurance company say ok can claim but there are 2 types of insurance. 1st party n 3rd party. If my friend claim 1st party, win or lose the case still must pay the access of $4000 to company as signed in contract(this is a norm for car rental) and this is all he needs to pay. If my friend claims 3rd party if he win no need pay a cent. but if lose rental company say he got to bear all lawyer fee, repair damage, loss of use, loss of income etc. which may about to 5 digits. What are his alternatives here may i ask? Thanks so much for lau jiaos help in advance.

  12. Hi all, A friend of mine range me up just now and asked me to check in the forum for quick advice. His son (less than 21 years, less than 1 year driving license) rented a car without his notice and got into an accident. The car run into the car park railing and damaged the bumper. Now the Car rental company wanted the son to pay $1k for damages. According to the Son story, the steering wheel suddenly locked up when he was parking and then he knocked the railing. My friend is of the thought that how could a rental company rent a car to a minor (less than 21 with less than 1 year license) in the 1st place? Is this legal? This is the question that I can't answer him. I thought youngsters can learn driving so car rental company should be able to rent to them right? I actually advised him to go outside workshop to fix the problem and return back to the car rental company. This could be cheaper. I know there are many experts here, kindly advise me on this. Thank you very much. Regards,

  14. As phone apps for booking a taxi or a limo get more popular, drivers with rental cars are also jumping in to grab these calls, according to car rental industry sources. These drivers are breaking the law; and this has prompted the Land Transport Authority (LTA) to act. LTA officials met car rental companies and taxi operators last week to remind them of the rules, the second time it has done so in less than a year. Other than taxis, only company-owned vehicles insured as limousines and driven by its employees are allowed under the law to ferry passengers for a fee. This rule is to ensure passengers are covered by insurance should something go wrong during the journey. Those caught flouting the law can be fined up to $3,000 or jailed for up to six months or both. The cars involved may also be impounded. As it is difficult for commuters to distinguish legal limos from illegal ones, industry players are suggesting safeguards. Mr. Peter Cheong, President of the Vehicle Rental Association, advises people hiring a limo via mobile apps to ask for a written assurance from the rental or leasing company that the vehicle used is legal. The association has also advised its members not to rent their cars to those who intend to use them for ferrying commuters. 16. Hi everyone, I'm looking to rent a car on a monthly basis with my budget of $900. I will be using the car primarily on local roads and to Johor Bahru maybe once a week to makan and do some grocery shopping as well as to pump petrol and shower your car. I am 27 this year and happily married with a daughter who is turning 1 this month. I have been driving since I was 19, cleared my theory and practical tests in one attempt and have never accumulated any demerit points nor met with any accidents. I am currently working as a Department Manager with a MNC Electrical, Electronics and Furniture retailer. My household income is about $7k/month. The reason as to why I decide to rent a car instead of buying one is because I would like to see if my family can cope with the financial burden of having a car. Thus, the length of rental can be anything from 3 months to 1 year. Should you rent me your car, you have my word that I will take care of your car like my own and I will never conduct any illegal activities in your car. I do not smoke and I will ensure nobody smokes in your car, I will also not ferry durians or stinky people in your car. Promise! I am a car lover, you can trust me with your car. Really. (: Thank you for reading, and if you can't rent me your car but happens to know of someone who can, please help to link me up! Thank you. Benson Wong

  18. Sorry Loki, hijack ur thread a while, as I dunno and maybe cant create a new topic. I need some advise from fellow bros & sis. I recently have been negotiating a shop rental contract with NTUC, the whole process took about 2 months. Since the 1st submission of my proposal/ concept & floor plan from the designer, I have been asked to re submit more than 10 times regarding the store layout & design. Though the process is frustrating and tiring, I sucked it up.(Cause they are a BIG ORG) The bombshell came few days ago, they rejected my application and proposal, reason being my trade in not in their consideration list. WTF..... After almost 2 months of emailing to n fro, countless drawing from my designer($150 per piece),all I get is a short and simple answer.(We regret to inform you that your propose trade is not suitable for us) In the 1st place, why waste my time on this whole shit. I would like to know which channel can I go to, to demand a better explanation. I really would like to tie all of them to a bowling pin & row over with a 18 pounder....shit.... Any input of ideas and advise will be deeply appreciated. Thanks in advance. Sorry again to OT this thread.

  24. Need some help from the helpful bros here I'm going to US in April for a month and I am sourcing for car rental over the net.. Can't really decide on which company to rent from as their rents and add on defers quite a bit .. Hertz - most exp. good review. Avis - price quite ex also as compared to others.. Rentalcars.com - cheapest among all. A bit scary to have it so cheap. Others quote 1.4k for full insurance for a ford escape for 2 weeks. This company quote me sgd 600!!! Alamo - good pricing but not as good as rentalcars. Not sure how reliable they are. On top of that, I got to know that I can actually get promo code via UCLA and I registered as a gold member. The rate I got as a gold member of hertz and using their promo is actually more exp than I get from a guest login booking. For bros who been there and rented cars before, pls give me your advice. Thanks!!
