I will be going on a Business + Leisure trip to UK next week. The stay would be more than a month and need to hire a car for visiting places such as the Scottish highlands as well as some English National parks. The car is to carry only two passengers, me and wify. My budget would be good for an Audi A3 1.4TFSI or Ford Mondeo tdi. Having to choose between the two is kind of tough for me now. My wife prefers the Mondeo as she likes big and steady car for long distance but I would love to handle the Audi Hatch on the country winding roads which I have never done before. Which of the two would you choose?

Several families lose cash in 'rental car scam' They placed deposits for vehicles that never arrived By Jalelah Abu Baker Several families hoping to rent a car to visit their loved ones during Hari Raya Aidilfitri have lost their deposits in a suspected scam. At least 40 police reports have been made against Easi Car Services by angry customers who put down between $200 and $500 - only to never see the vehicles. Not only have they been left out of pocket, their festive spirit has been dampened by the lack of a car to use to visit their families. BACKGROUND STORY THE HOOK Classified ads in Berita Harian offered cheap 'Hari Raya' packages to rent a car for a week. The shop in Golden Mile Tower looked convincing, with posters of cars, a list of makes available and namecards, although the vehicles were not there. THE VICTIMS After placing deposits of between $200 and $500, customers were told by the dealers to collect the vehicles at 9pm on Sunday from a carpark in Golden Mile Tower. Several families turned up, some with young children and elderly parents in tow, but there were no vehicles. The apparent victims were attracted by a cheap 'Hari Raya' rental package offered in a nondescript classified advertisement in Berita Harian. http://www.straitstimes.com/BreakingNews/S...ory_707460.html

Hi dear bros and sis, Does anyone here have lobang for daily car rental? Just 1 day? I'm looking for a car to drive in to msia just for 1 day as i'm going karting with 3 friends. Sorry if this sounds stupid but I can't bear to drive my own car in. Spend a lot of time cleaning the car and I don't want to attract unnecesary attention with my car. Last time I went in a lot of EG/EKs surround me and try to be funny So this time I just wanna drive in a simple basic car. I went there just 2 weeks ago with a few friends and I thought it was fun so I'm bringing a few other friends this time ( Can't go with the previous group cause their karting skill too good for me ) so I bring along newbies that I can handle hahaha. Also could someone help me by telling me the location of the karting place ( got to travel through some gravel road leading to the track ) so I can key into my GPS? If don't know nevermind I can ask my friends. Thanks a million for your help

ST Forum Jul 13, 2011 Rental hoax or exceptional demand? I AM a 27-year-old professional from India working in Singapore, and have been looking to rent a three-bedroom Housing Board unit with two friends in the centre of town. In the past two weeks, I have scanned the classifieds online and in the newspapers but to no avail. Most of the advertisements on property websites are fake and many of the units listed online do not exist for rent. When I call an agent about a property, he is more interested in getting my profile than talking about the listing. When I ask for a specific listing, I am inevitably told the unit has been taken. Such units are either non-existent or were rented out on the day they were listed, which is unlikely for every unit. If they had been taken up, isn't it the responsibility of the agents to remove the listings from the website? And if the units are fake, then it is an unethical way of doing business and fishing for clients. Rishu Choudhary

This fella shud just write direct to CEA and complain against the agt. Write to forum for wat? wif reference to his last sentence, shows he not aware of this dual representation rule. ST Forum Mar 16, 2011 Tackle agents seeking dual rental commissions THE article by Ms Jessica Cheam last Saturday was timely ("When your agent does not act in your interest"). Although the Council for Estate Agencies (CEA) has banned dual representation, where the same agent cannot represent both buyer and seller, in a sales and purchase agreement, it has said nothing about a rental agreement. Recently, I purchased a property with tenancy. There was no formal rental agreement between the previous owner and the tenants. When I asked the agent representing the previous owner if he could draft a rental agreement for me and the existing tenants, he boldly asked the tenants for a commission. The tenants were upset because he was asking for a lot of money. I was upset because he put off my tenants and put a strain on our relationship. I was in fact ready to pay him a commission for doing the paperwork. However, that does not warrant a commission equivalent to one month's rental because he did no actual work and put up no advertisement in locating the tenants. I hope CEA would ban agents from collecting commissions from both the landlord and the tenants as there would surely be a conflict of interest. Sim Ghee Choon

Hi, Just wondering if anyone is aware of reasonably priced rental options (e.g. monthly rates?)? Most of the sites like Hertz and Avis seem to offer pretty expensive weekly rates only. This is for a Singaporean with a local driving license, and for driving within Singapore only. Looking to rent a Camry 2.0 or similar. Regards,

I just received a call from my car rental company that the car that I am renting for the weekend, got into an acident and they do not have a replacement vehicle for me (same make and model). Ask me to downgrade to another saloon (much smaller cc , with -20 buck diff, and I dun like the model that she recommended) I have already paid $100 deposit last week and will want a bigger car for the trip...unwilling to downgrade....and I dun want to pay extras. Can the bro here advise me? How now? I only have 1 day left.... If she does not give me a reasonable replacement car, I will post the company name here to warn other.

I was thinking how to profit from the new rule. Discussion with my friends and colleagues. Fact: It seems that gov is restricting people from owning two or more properties from Monday onwards. Also limiting HDB from being rented out easily (HDB must stay 5 years, cannot rent out etc etc). So there will be generally be a reduced rental units on the market come 2011 as people are not easily allowed to buy extra units. Fact: The problem is that RENTAL from FT/PR/new citizens are supporting the rental market for the past 5-7 years. If there were no rental support from this group, I cannot believe how the hell speculators are able to rent out their extra units to earn rental incomes for the past years. So how can this rental demand going to disappear from now onwards? I mean there WILL still be incoming FT/PR/new citizens yearly right? If these group of people are NOT able to find available HDB/Condo rooms to rent, where will they go to? So if suddenly the 'poor' are prevented from owning 2 or more extra properties, then I forsee there will be a lack of spare HDB/CONDOs for rental come 2011 onwards.....HOW? I think rental rates will shoot up the roof when available rental units are cut due to lesser people owning 2 or more properties. It will be a vivcious cycle, as it will then become worthwhile to once again for speculator to risk to buy additional properties to earn the higher rental income. So looking at the impending reducation of HDB/CONDO units for rental purpose. So I have come to the conclusion that I will ask my father mother myself to divorce and separetely each buy additonal HDB. And rent it out to FT/PR in 2011. HUAT AH.
