  1. To all you out there, I posted my car for sale 2 months ago due to overseas work assignment and was approached by a person, called himself Leon (Stanley under another company) who offered to take over my monthly installments and will rent the car out under his company name. Of cos, my 1st worry was that if accident, my insurance will not cover. He said not to worry, while the car is under his charge, insurance will be under his company's name. So I agreed to his proposal. Nearly 2 months down the road, I have not seen my 1st payment yet. I contacted him many times, always met with excuses, said dun worry, check with his HR and Accounts Dept, got problem with his Accounts Dept, got problem with my POSB account blah blah blah... And I'm stuck overseas, helpless to do anything. My boss was in the same situation, he has since returned to Singapore for 3 weeks already but have yet to get the car back from this guy. We have already lodged police report against him, but seems like the police are not able to do anything, they said it's just a Breach of Contract, not a crime. And there were already several reports made against him by previous victims. Not sure how long this guy has been in operation. Anyway, just like to warn all you guys out there of this scam going on. Take note if someone of the name Leon or Stanley, using the resources of Sgcarmart to contact unknowing owners, wants to take over your car for rental. Aside, any one knows of any action we can take against him? Some has proposed getting repo company to tow the car back. Appreciate all feedback and less reprimand (I realised I was gullible). But in a high car ownership cost country, who wouldn't jump at the opportunity to lessen their financial burden? For those of you who are interested, you can take a look at the details; Name: Leon Chan Company: Elites Car Rental Number: 84000766 Another name: Stanley Number: 82531321 Drives a black Mazda RX-8 (not sure if it
  2. Guys, I am trying to rent a car in August south island in winter. I am not familiar in driving in iicy road so I am looking to rent a car that is the safest. The choices I see now is 1) intermediate 4WD drive like toyota RAV4 ($980) 2) premium 4WD like toyota Prado ($1450) 3) AWD wagon like Ford territory ($1000) which is is the safest in ice? the RAV4 is a little bit small so may be an issue in packing everything in. (4 people + luggage) I am looking at hertz and avis. Is there any very good local car rental companies in NZ which upkeep their cars (tires) very well? Anyone here has used chains before? I don't really expect to drive in snow but maybe ice. Do I need to put chains? I should not need chains if all I am encountering is the occasional slippery ice in the shade, etc. Just need to be careful right? thanks for any help.
  3. Hi all, I'm now faced with a dilemma. I'll be going to Melbourne. Went to several online car rental sites hoping to book my car in advance. Pick it up from the airport. FYI, this is going to be a Great Ocean Road trip. I will be going all the way to Warrnambool, up to Halls Gap, then to Ballarat before returning the car back at th airport. I am shown cars from a lot of companies. All rental are for 7 days. At Europecar, I can rent a Skoda Octavia. With excess reduction to AUD350, costs me AUD637. Hertz, Avis, Budget and gave me all gave me a lot of other cars. Excess reduction to AUD350 all cost a whopping 550+ onwards. Then I came to this company. Offered me a powerful V6 Magna wagon (TF) which is used for AUD437 including excess reduction to AUD350, 2 booster seats plus GPS! Wife tell me she like new car. I told her this is a powerful older car. Other cars from richer tourists will have their balls shrinking if I bear down on them with a Magna! Is it worth it to rent a Magna? I assume it is well maintained since it is a rental vehicle. Don't care if it is scuffed or whatever. I'm only going to use it for 7 days.
  4. Hi all, I am claiming third party. The workshop I am using ask me to select an equivalent CC car for replacement car rental and submit the bill for them to claim. I like to get some opinion from brothers here, especially those experience in claims one on: 1) my car under repair is Saab 9-3. do you think there is a limit on the absolute amount of car rental or brands I can rent? hee, hoping to try interesting models 2) in the past workshop settle car rental for me, but this time round, this workshop seems to be less experienced and ask me to source my own car rental. but if i pay the car rental, they claim under their name and it becomes their income then how? or as long as car rental invoice shows my name, insurer will have to pay to me? 3) any car rental company with more interesting brands of cars (not those that offers standard range like toyota camry etc) to recommend?
