  1. The above video is a detailed review of the 2013 Ford Fusion EcoBoost. The Fusion is a mid-sized sedan for the American market. Why bother with a car not destined for Singapore, you may ask. Unlike the previous generation Fusion, the latest model is actually a twin sibling of the all-new Ford Mondeo. When the new Mondeo arrives in Singapore, the 1.6-litre EcoBoost will likely be the best selling variant due to the local consumers' "Big body, small engine" mentality. The video starts with a walkaround over the car's exterior followed by the interior, paying close attention to details such as the styling cues and plastic quality. The review ends with a test drive in a local town. You can hear the sporty note of the force-fed lump in the cabin of the vehicle. The main difference between the Mondeo and the Fusion is that the US model is equipped with a torque-convertor automatic transmission whereas the Mondeo is fitted with the more advanced six-speed dual-clutch Powershift.

  3. Just switched to the new AD08 after clocking up 40k on my RE-11. The tyres are slightly narrower as compared to Bridgestone tyres for the same tyre size. The scrub in mileage is approximately 400-500km before I can feel the ultimate bite coming in. For my tyre size, the tyre is about 3 pounds lighter per tyre and it was quite apparently as the pick up is required responsive and the rear tyres feel less heavy during cornering. In terms of grip, I can't really tell the difference between AD08 and RE-11 but certainly the difference in weight does make the car feel more nimble especially the turn in response.
  4. Any bro feel strongly that he kena chop carrot head by his contractor? From ST Forum: http://www.straitstimes.com/premium/forum-...extras-20121101 Review contractors' charges for HDB flat extras Published on Nov 01, 2012 I AM glad a Straits Times' check has revealed that the HDB's main contractors are charging two to three times more for some fittings than what other contractors charge ("New package deal for BTO flat buyers"; last Saturday). I am puzzled by how the Housing Board allowed such a situation to pass. I would have thought that it would have been able to negotiate better prices because of the volume of its orders. It may be understandable if the contractors had ramped up the cost by 10 per cent to 20 per cent owing to the superior quality of their fittings. But by twice or thrice the comparative figure? That is hard to swallow. The contractors offer differing views. The non-HDB-contracted builders say the doors they supply are of similar quality to the ones offered by the HDB's main contractors, but the latter claim that the doors they provide are superior. Even if quality was the difference, does it warrant a price that is two to three times higher? Moreover, where is the proof of their claims? The article also mentioned that some flat buyers have no choice but to use the HDB's contractors, because they cannot afford the down payment required by external contractors. This is a classic example of the vicious circle the less well-off are caught in. In retrospect, there may be another group of earlier buyers who have been similarly overcharged. In January, I raised the matter of the high price of HDB studio flats ("Studio flats"; Jan 31), to which the HDB explained that these flats incorporated fittings ("Studio flats: HDB clears the air"; Feb 9). So is it possible that these studio flats cost more than they should because the HDB's contractors charged marked-up prices for the fittings as well? In fact, buyers of these studio flats have no recourse to using non-HDB contractors because the fittings were bundled into the price of the flat. Joan Chng (Ms)
  5. The all-new 2013 Kia Forte has just been introduced in its domestic market. The above Korean video shows a test drive review of the latest Kia sedan. Measuring 4,560mm long, 1,780mm wide and 1,435mm tall, the Forte is powered by a 138bhp 1.6-litre GDI engine in Korea. It is mated to a six-speed automatic gearbox. The test drive demonstrates the use of Kia
  6. Any tried using their services for conversion of their standard ICE HU and screens? Intending to do an upgrade for my car and they are not exactly cheap... so will like to hear some frank reviews on:- 1. Skill of dismantling and putting things back.... any scratches? rough etc? I am very particular about this as I hate car panels to be scratched...so far only 2 hifi shops do perfect jobs. 2. The new functions in the HU and screen...good? I heard from grapevine that the features are super solid....but best is to hear from horses mouth. Thanks!
  7. The Pagani Huayra is one of the highly anticipated cars this year. The successor to the highly successful Zonda, the Huayra has large shoes to fill, and it didn't disappoint. Honestly I am not sold on the styling. Though the car looks absolutely fabulous in red and I highly think it should have been the launch colour instead of the metallic silverish colour, the front facia doesn't attract me like the Zonda did. Things that I like are the active aerodynamics flaps that reminds me of airplanes, the side mirrors that were inspired by the eye of a female and the rear with the iconic 4 central exhausts. I like the the gullwing doors which is refreshing compared to the usual Lamborghini scissor doors or the McLaren butterfly doors. The interior looks avant-garde yet flashy and loud and reminds me alot of Dutch supercar Spyker. The one thing I can't comment is the performance, well because neither have I nor my colleagues at SGcarmart have driven one, though given the opportunity we would love to. I have been spending some time on the web reading and watching reviews of the Huayra and though of sharing 2 videos that caught my interest. One is from the self confessed Petrol Head Jay Leno and its has Horacio Pagani himself in the video to explain the car. The second reviews comes from a guy named Chris Harris from the Drive network who shares his honest experience with the Huayra, more of a video blog style, including his initial frustrations at the Italian airport. 16. I'm not sure how many have heard of, or are aware of the group 'Consumer Reports' (CR), but for those who aren't, it is basically similar to the character played by Reese Witherspoon in the movie 'This Means War'. Essentially, they are product testers and reviewers and compare consumer products based on results from its in-house testing laboratory. The annual Consumer Reports new car issue, is the magazine's best-seller and influences millions of automobile purchases. It would be interesting to note then, the said publication has negative comments on the 2012 Toyota Prius C in their video review that even urges car shoppers to get a used regular Prius over the new baby model. "It's a much better car overall," says reviewer Mike Quincy in the review. CR claims the Prius C appears cheaper, lackluster, hard plastic, cheap materials, dead steering and slow. This is a total contrast to what the original Prius has received, even becoming the poster boy for Gaia saving enthusiasts. Interestingly in the US Toyota sold 4,782 Prius C models, during the first month alone, outpacing the other Prius variants. The YouTube link for the review is provided below while sgCarMart's take on the car can be read here. What do you guys think are the consumer product testing group too harsh or is sgCarMart too nice? Do you own a car and would like to defend/accept the comments? Shoot out your comments below.

  18. The National Environment Agency (NEA) will be reviewing the penalty regime against vehicles which emit excessive smoke, according to Minister for the Environment and Water Resources Vivian Balakrishnan. The NEA will also harness new technology such as remote sensing technology to enhance enforcement against such vehicles, he added in a written reply yesterday to Nee Soon GRC Member of Parliament Lee Bee Wah, who had asked about the ministry's efforts to control vehicles from across the Causeway which emit excessive smoke. Smoky vehicles entering Singapore will be stopped for a smoke emission test, explained Dr Balakrishnan. A composition fine ranging from S$70 to S$500 will be issued to the driver of a vehicle that fails the test. Diesel vehicles that emit smoke exceeding 70 Hartridge Smoke Units, a measurement of smoke opacity, will be turned back. The NEA also conducts regular enforcement on Singapore roads, and drivers of buses that fail the smoke emission test for the first time will be issued with a composition fine of S$150. In the last two years, a total of 7,950 foreign-registered vehicles, including 2,339 motorcycles, were booked for excessive smoke emission. 21. SINGAPORE: Electronic Road Pricing (ERP) rates at three gantries will be revised and will take effect from February 6. At the CTE gantry north of Braddell Road, the revised ERP rate for the period of 7.00 am to 7.30 am will be S$1.00, down by S$1.00. 22. It's the Review Committee that doesn't get it Print Email Friday, 13 January 2012 Singapore Democrats The Committee for Ministerial Salary Review has issued a statement saying that Singaporeans have misunderstood its recommendations. In trying to clear up these "misunderstandings", it posted on its blog several explanations on why it made the proposals that it did. Unfortunately, it seems that it is the Committee that doesn't quite get what Singaporeans are so angry about when it comes to paying the Ministers the kind of salaries they get - even after the proposed cuts. For example, in Question 1, the Committee asks: 1. Why link salaries to top earners? This reflects the level of talent we hope to attract and the need to pay competitive salaries to minimise the opportunity cost for these people to come forward to serve. See paras 1 to 3, and paras 32 to 35. SDP: What the people are unhappy about is that the despite the extraordinary amounts that our current ministers are paid, their performances have hardly been extraordinary. In fact, they have been quite dismal: Continued flooding, frequent train service disruptions, a sliding economy, over-dependence on foreign workers, depressed wages, increased cost of living, low productivity of workforce and so on. If the high salaries have not been able to attract talent that have resolved such problems, what makes the Committee think that the continued payment of high salaries will? 2. Why have
