  1. Isn't it common sense that when on merging lane, cars will alternate to merge? Why some motorist insist don't want to give way? Incident happen to me just now on Keppel Way/Road. While joining in the queue to enter ECP... Got this silver Stream or Wish that's following a blue Freed Taxi on the right lane. My car ,traveling on the left lane, was in front of silver MPV but behind taxi. The silver MPV die die stick to the Taxi in front like a leech. I was force to travel up the slope on the road shoulder and the silver car still don't want to give way. In the end, I've to roll down my window and raise my hand before the silver MPV finally gave way. Thinking abt the incident I suspect that the MPV driver thought I was queue jumping? The merging lane there is something rather recent, so the driver may not realise it... Anyway, I'll be interested to hear the other side of the story. If anyone happen to see complain on other forum or thread or somehow know the MPV driver. Please let him know abt this thread or post his reply. Time : Abt 3-4 plus Location : Keppel Way/Road from Vivo/West Coast Merging lane towards ECP Vechicles involve : My car - Blue Renault Megane Silver MPV (either Stream or new Wish)

  3. Geez... sianz... my vios rear has been rear-ended, in my absence.. The right side of the bumper has dented in, quite a nasty one. A quick visual check with the metal chassis does not reveal any structural damage. The plastic cover for the right signal is broken though. However, the signals and even the reverse sensor are in good working condition. Apart from the bumper (right rear end), there is no visible damage at all. Can any kind soul advise me on the damage I should be looking at? I am not intending to replace the bumper. Is it possible to heat the bumper and push it back? :( Sorrie, I do not have the pixs at the moment. I will be uploading them tomorrow. Really appreciate the kind help and advice. I am looking at sending my car for repair on Monday...
  4. What is your consideration when choosing the type of paint protection for your vehicle? Sealant? Wax? and of course why?
  5. The following post prompted me to create this poll. Should humans be allowed to play the role of God? Legalizing euthanasia would do just that! The power to play with people's lives should not be handed out under a legal and/or medical disguise. Thus euthanasia should not be legalized. The term 'Euthanasia' comes from the Greek word for 'easy death'. It is the one of the most public policy issues being debated about today. Also called 'mercy killing', euthanasia is the act of purposely making or helping someone die, instead of allowing nature to take its course. Basically euthanasia means killing in the name of compassion. On the contrary, it promotes abuse, gives doctors the right to murder and in addition, is contradictory to religious beliefs. "The respect that we owe the elderly compels me once again to raise my voice against all those practices of shortening life known as euthanasia.... Euthanasia is an attack on life that no human authority can justify, because the life of an innocent person is an indispensable good", the Holy Father said on Saturday, 31 October, to those attending an international conference on the elderly sponsored by the Pontifical Council for Pastoral Assistance to Health-Care Workers. The Pope spoke of respect for the elderly and encouraged families to benefit from the wealth of experience that their older members have to offer. Here is a translation of his address, which was given in Italian. Your Eminences, Remember when your parent held you in their arms? there are no economical input... you cry alot. but they held on to you lovingly. It brings tears to my heart to see someone even suggesting killing their own parents cause they are old.
  6. the ministar has spoken. its ok for sngaporeans to pay more. below is an excerpt: HYPOTHETICALLY, the Government could tell a service provider hoping to offer Barclays Premier League (BPL) programming how much it could charge subscribers - then let the provider work out how much it could afford to bid for the broadcast rights. But a move like this, even if intended to keep prices low for viewers, may backfire and deprive them of programming altogether, said Rear-Admiral (NS) Lui Tuck Yew, Acting Minister for Information, Communications and the Arts, in Parliament yesterday. "Bear in mind...the content owner (such as the Football Association Premier League) might very well say that 'I will not sell to Singapore' (because of low bids), and we would be at a greater loss, particularly for the consumers who feel that they are prepared to pay the price for the package," he added.

  8. Hi guys, Observed one scene. An ambulance switched on siren and approaching a zebra crossing. A pedestrian was also wanting to cross the zebra lines at the same time. The ambulance supposedly horned at the pedestrian, warning him to give way. This pedestrian obviously felt offended and shouted at the ambulance for not giving way to him at the middle of the crossing. Although it was a moment of tussles, the ambulance finally gave in and waited for the pedestrian to take his own sweet time to cross. Who is right and who is wrong? Regards,
  9. 5 reasons why STTA did not nominate Liu Are the five reasons valid? Here is some comments from people like SNOC vice-president Dr Tan Eng Liang and plastic surgeon Dr Woffles Wu Thu, May 07, 2009 AsiaOne Below is a sampling of comments from ex-national table tennis coach Mr Liu Guodong, Singapore National Olympic Council vice-president Dr Tan Eng Liang, well-known plastic surgeon Dr Woffles Wu, the sports community and the Singapore Table Tennis Association (STTA). FAVOURED THE WOMEN? Liu Guodong: I achieved my mission. I got Singapore a medal and saw Singapore's flag raised on the competition arena. Dr Tan Eng Liang: It is obvious that this was a strategy. By getting a medal, Liu Guodong had achieved his mission and due credit should be given to him. Dr Woffles Wu: The viewers aren't fools. They can tell that the men's team is weaker even from the TV screen. Sports community: In the masterplan to win Olympic medals, it was clear that the chances of the men's team winning were slimmer than those of the women's team. As a result, more funds were allocated to the women's team than to the men's. Liu Guodong had to work with these restrictions, so he didn't do anything wrong. STTA: As the head coach of the national team, he once told the media that he would rather see the women's team finish second and the men's team in the top 16 than see both teams finish in fourth place. It is clear he did not give equal consideration to both teams. NOT RESPECTED? Liu Guodong: Do my players not respect me? To be a coach means to make demands of the players. Dr Tan Eng Liang: Liu Guodong's training was serious and he forbade his players from fooling around. Everyone followed his training instructions. In my time working together with the table tennis team, I never felt the players did not respect him. Dr Woffes Wu: A coach is not hired to be liked by people. Sports community: Some players did not want to train and had disciplinary problems, so as the coach he had to step in. Friction among the players is not a new problem and has little to do with Liu. On the other hand, something would be wrong if all players liked their coach. STTA: Association president MS Lee Bee Wah, in an earlier reply to the media, said: "If you ask the six players (who competed at the Beijing Games) if he is deserving of the Coach of the Year, less than half will agree." CHARACTER PROBLEMS? Liu Guodong: What is wrong with my character? I would like to challenge those who say this. Dr Tan Eng Liang: We worked closely with the table tennis team in the 10 months before the Olympics. We not only saw Liu's ability, but also his commitment and sense of responsibility. A member of the sports community: When the STTA wanted to extend Liu Guodong's contract, there were no questions raised about his character, and it was Liu who decided not to extend his contract. Why is it that problems appeared in his character when the call for nominations for Coach of the Year were called one to two months later? It would appear that even if there was a problem, it could not have been a serious one. Another member of the sports community: If there was a problem with Liu, shouldn't it be revealed to the public for the sake of accountability? The STTA's current claim seems too far fetched and could scare off coaches from working for us. This has a great impact on Singapore. STTA: A Coach of the Year should not just achieve good results, but also have good character. LACKED PROFESSIONALISM? Liu Guodong: I have no ulterior motives in leading the team and I will not do anything to let Singapore down. Dr Tan Eng Liang: If the STTA uses the "Gao Ning incident" to say that Liu Guodong is irresponsible, then it is unfair. After our investigations, we have found out that this was an unfortunate incident. Also, the issue has been laid to rest. Sports community: It was after our women's table tennis team had clinched the silver medal that Liu Guodong told the media: "We had no way of beating China." This is an honest account of the situation. He also said that our women's team is the strongest team outside of China and had done its best in the final. In what way is it wrong of the coach to say this? STTA: In nominating for the Coach of the Year award, results are just one consideration. Professionalism and other criteria must also be considered. LACKED LEADERSHIP ABILITY? Liu Guodong: It is out of the coach's control when players do not get along. As the coach, I've done all I can to mediate. Dr Tan Eng Liang: During the preparations for competition, there were many cases of players not getting along. They were all resolved in a firm manner by Liu Guodong. Also, if the women's team won the Senior Team of the Year award, why is it that the coach behind them does not deserve the Coach of the Year award? Sports community: If the coach did not have leadership ability, would the women's team have gotten the silver medal? Liu Guodong was nominated for the Coach of the Year award in 2007 but he unfortunately did not get it. In 2008, besides leading the women's team to the silver medal, Liu also achieved breakthroughs in other areas. Do his achievements in 2008 not match up to those of 2007, such that Liu is not deserving of a nomination? It is hard to understand this. STTA: A good coach should be able to unite the team.
  10. Some people would risk their life to have one day of freedom could this be the case Singapore minister warns against twins' surgery: report [Top: Singaporean neurosurgeon, Keith Goh (right) greets five year old conjoined twins Vani and Veena while Indian surgeon A. Narendra Kumar stands nearby in Hyderabad in late March.] SINGAPORE, April 20, 2009 (AFP) - Singapore's health minister has cautioned against a planned surgery in the city-state to separate Indian twin sisters joined at the head, citing the risks involved, a report said Monday. The operation is more likely to harm the patients than improve their situation, Health Minister Khaw Boon Wan said in remarks carried by the Straits Times. A Singaporean neurosurgeon, Keith Goh, has said he had been asked by the state government of Andhra Pradesh in India to surgically separate five-year-old Indian twin sisters Vani and Veena, possibly later this year. But Khaw said that in certain situations, it may be better not to operate on conjoined twins. "To change the course of nature may do more harm than good," he was quoted as saying. In some cases, surgeons also have to pick one twin to die in order to save the other, the health minister said. "Even those who survive would often be left with brain damage. So, to what extent is this quality of life?" he asked. In 2001, Goh was involved in a 97-hour operation that separated 11-month-old Nepalese twins Ganga and Jamuna Shrestha who were born with fused skulls. The surgery left Ganga with brain damage and Jamuna unable to walk. It also left a hole in Jamuna's skull covered only by a layer of skin. Last year, Ganga died from respiratory problems at a hospital in Kathmandu, where she was being treated for pneumonia and meningitis. Goh was also involved in the tragic operation of 29-year-old Iranian twins - Ladan and Laleh Bijani - in July 2003. Both women, joined at the head, died from severe blood loss following a 52-hour operation.
  11. Been wanting to watch it after all the hype on Rotten Tomatoes with a 99%+ rating. http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/lat_den_ratte_komma_in/ But I didn't catch it when it was on the old Picturehouse now called Film Garde. So I bought the book first......HOLY! Pedophilia, rape, bullying, murder, blood feasting, homosexual love and of course vampirism. Wow! You sure this makes for a good cinema viewing? Cramming all that angst and unrequited pedophillic love, murder, loneliness and mayhem into a movie?! Never fear, the R3 DVD was released recently. So I bought it and watched. Worth every damn hype on Rotten Tomatoes. It is different from the book. More of a focus on how two kids aged 12 fell in love and in need with each other. Both outcasts. Both with a need. The stark snow and the lack of conversation echoes throughout the movie. Definitely up there and in fact better than An Interview with a Vampire. In fact Lina Leandersson can fight with Kirsten Dunst as the supreme child vampire. This is not your wham bam suck your blood ma'am kind of vampire movie (Underworld). It is slow and builds up well. I would not say the movie is scary. Actually it is downright creepy. How the hell do you relate to a vampire whose sole desire is to drain all the hemoglobin out of you? Actually you can. When you drive, you are honked, blatantly tail-gated and have this inner desire to fight back or better.....KILL and SUCK THE LIVING BLOOD OUT OF THE MOFO. That is the vampire in us. Eli (the 12 yo girl vampire) is the embodiment of such desire. She does it out of a need. That scream in you cursing and swearing at the MOFO for cuttng into your lane could potentially be Eli. Buy it or rent it (highly unlikely). Certainly is a damn good vampire movie. Way better than the teen fluff called Twilight. Trailer here. Now also in BluRay so if you all like, head to Amazon but be warned the subtitles are altered to suit a more conservative viewer. I also suggest buying the book. Damn dark. In fact a lot more violent in the book. The movie is also suggestive of Eli's androgyny. A very brief "if you miss it that's it" scene. An issue that is addressed in the book.
  12. Time for TP to ammend new traffic ruling! As per subject
  13. damn creative.... STOMPer Kilroy was amused when he noticed some similarities between the couple sharing an MRT train seat and the priority seat sign just above them. In an email to STOMP today (Mar 1), the STOMPer says: "Here's a great one. "I really love these priority seats. "Seems like couples do have priority seats in the train after all. Thanks SMRT/SBS for being so thoughtful!"
  14. I remember earlier we have this lady that "chop" lot for her partner...I think this pass down from our MP...it always happen but last week take the cake...there was this CNY dinner that is happening last evening...one of the MP for my GRC was the VIP..however, the aunties already came and "Chop" 3 lots...use white tape and the "Reserved" sign...on Sat morning! And they are taking away those season parking lots...Like that also can   ....waste manpower (the aunties have to do guard duty whole day) and hoarding lots for the residents! I think it's about time for me to shoot a letter to the ministry!
  15. i stay in e East side n is not hard to c cyclists tat cycle on the road, n i meant those in colorful tight outfits tat looks like they r going for suba diving. While i got no issue wif them, problem is they like to take up the whole L lane n cycle side by side depending on their nos. Esp so for those ang mo who thinks they r in France'scountry side doing their tour de France. Is there any guide lines on wat cyclist shld excercise when OTR?
  16. I wonder what is the status of these cyclists. Happened to me several times already. When the group of pedestrians clear the traffic light, suddenly a cyclist zooms in from no where and I almost hit him. Logically speaking, they do not have the right to use these crossings. Who's rights is protected when a cyclist is knocked down at a pedestrian crossing? Does anyone know?
  17. http://www.asiaone.com/Motoring/Drivers/St...1107-98945.html Don't let road bullies force you to speed By Cheryl Lim I HAVE come to a conclusion regarding Singaporean drivers: Few hold any regard for traffic laws. This is what I have realised since I started driving a year ago and began coming into contact with other motorists. You might think I'm being presumptuous, but statistics back this up. According to the Singapore Police Force website (www.spf.gov.sg), there was a jump in the number of speeding- related accidents, from 1,656 cases in 2006 to 1,766 last year. Speeding-related fatal accidents also rose from 66 in 2006 to 74 last year. What this means is that more lives were needlessly lost because some motorists chose not to adhere to the speed limit. I have always been very respectful of our fine country's numerous traffic laws. I keep to the speed limit, signal before changing lanes and give way when I am supposed to. But despite that, I've been a victim of speeding. For instance, I try to empathise when a motorist overtakes my car abruptly without signalling - an action open to the charge of careless driving, which could lead to the awarding of 6 demerit points and a possible jail term. I tell myself that he might be in a big rush and is aware of my Jedi-like reflexes to get out of his way. The last straw for me, though, is that it is simply not enough that I obey traffic laws and quietly put up with people breaking them. I'm now so harassed on the road that I have to break them myself. Take, for example, a common experience I have on expressways. I have been tailgated, "high-beamed" and even honked at when I was travelling at the stipulated speed limit on the extreme right lane of expressways. In short, I'm basically harassed and taunted for obeying the law. Actually, the only reason why I even travel on the extreme right lane is that I am forced there by road hogs on the centre lane. These include lorries packed to the gills and huge gravel-transporting trucks travelling at a mind-numbing 60kmh on a highway with a 90kmh limit. These vehicles are supposed to be travelling only on the left lane. Readers should try going on the slip-road linking the BKE to the KJE towards Tuas at 50kmh, which is the speed limit on the slip-road. Once, I was hounded by a six-wheeler towing a huge concrete slab, whose driver was tailgating me impatiently. I managed to escape his wrath not by exceeding the speed limit, but by escaping to the left lane. I can't think of any realistic solution to this, besides suggesting that the police be more rigorous in enforcing the speed limit. High-beaming and tailgating are motorists' rude and direct way of telling me that by making the choice not to speed, I'm moving too slowly to share the highway with them. But I protest: Motorists shouldn't be pressured and harassed by other law-breaking motorists into doing the same. [email protected]
  18. Hi bros Need urgent advice on where to do paint repair work for my right rear wheel arch metal area. Paint along the wheel arch got scrapped off against carpark pillar due to tight and dark condition last evening. Need a reasonable and quality workshop where they have the color code for Cool Amber ("Khaki brown") for the current Stream model. Would want to drive to do repairs by this evening as i fly off on Sunday. Thanks a lot!
  19. I'm not sure if this was discussed but I think to have the $2 COE without the public's knowledge shows that the open bidding is, once again, flawed. The open bidding was mooted because the govt didn't want a 'windfall' type result which resulted in the $50 COE years ago. It was supposed to be transparent and let bidders see what the premium was before submitting the bids. However, our car purchases are structured such that self bidding of COEs are not only discouraged by the car dealerships, you are penalised if you walk in with a COE to buy a car. So the buyers end up letting the dealership do all the bidding. The resulting $2 will not end up with all the savings to the buyer's pocket. In fact, the dealership will earn a portion of it. Usually, if the previous prevailing COE is, say, $14,000, the COE rebate will only start if the COE is, say, below $12,000. So if the COE is $11,000, the buyer gets back only $1k instead of $3k. Logically, that $14k COE is priced into the sale of the car. Anyway, that's my analysis. I've done my own bidding once (years ago) and only one dealership would honour the price of their car (less the agreed COE price). All others refused to entertain me. Granted my information may be outdated but I think that their modus operandi hasn't changed. We need to bid for our own COE to make sure the price is LOW.
  20. My left front brake rotor is much more worn than the right. There's no other symtomps like pulling to one side. Dealer checked and say no caliper binding, and can't say where's the problem. Any idea where the fault could be?
  21. Hi MCF brudders, I had an encounter at my carpark earlier today. I was driving (red arrow), checked my front and right for traffic, started to turn right slowly when it was clear. As usual, when you least expect it, a car came charging towards me (blue arrow) out from nowhere. Darn! I did check my right before I turn. We both almost kissed each other if not for the fact that we jammed brake. I got high beamed by the uncle driver and he was glaring at me. I raised my hand apologetically and we both inched our way forward gingerly, going off on our way. Although inexperienced ( 1 year+ of driving), I sincerely think I had the right of way and would appreciate if MCF brudders can comment. Thank you. [inline Carpark.JPG]
  22. came across this Traffic Rules FAQ at one local website: "Junctions When turning right on a large junction, you will cross the lanes of traffic travelling in the opposite direction. You will have to give way. Wait in the designated boxes on the junction for the traffic coming from the oppostite direction to clear, or wait for the green arrow on the traffic lights to light up, in which case traffic from the opposite site will stop and you can proceed. A flashing arrow means you must stop, unless you are too close to stop safely (same as amber on a normal traffic light) When turning left on a junction, you might come across a slipway leading you past the traffic lights. If this is the case, you do not have to stop for the traffic lights, but you must give way to traffic on the road you are about to merge into." I thought this FAQ is just fine but my friend views otherwise. His view is that at the junction with traffic light regulating right turning and when it's red arrow, you cannot turn right until the green arrow is lighted up, even there is designated right turn box and the oncoming traffic from opposite direction is clear. I am getting confused and your view is appreciated.
  23. I didnt notice there were 2 stoplines, and by the time i did, if i jam brake, i sure block up the junction. So the lights turned red when I was very close to the second stopline.. Didnt see any flash, just wondering, will tio a not ar? Driving is super stress, i didnt touch the car for 6mths btw.. Still p plate. Anyway, its right after the ERP gantry that exit. Btw its here..
  24. Hi All, Recently into car detailing with my wife... Our new car got a base coat from dealer and i find the work almost perfect. Zero swirl mark and nice to touch... after 3 days of rain and car is still smooth... The questions i got here are... I am using 3M shampoo and 3M quick wax now... 1)Normally i will splash the car wet... then use 3M micro fibre cloth with 3M shampoo to wash the car.... rinse off.... while drying i spray the 3M quick wax (as on instruction) on the wet surface and wet dry... I find the end result ok but car is still new so do not know if it is really that good. I hope by doing these i can protect the base coating. 2)If i were to use the quick wax once a week... will it be ok? I have heard of ppl say be4 that quick wax will eats into the paint after prolong use... is it true? 3)So if i use the quick wax on a weekly basis.... do i still need a clay bar??? as the surface is always smooth...therfore road tar are easy to be remove and wipe off... so do i still need a clay bar??? 4)I am planning to wash and quick wax weekly and send my car for grooming every 3 months (wax, sealant and polish) Is it good enough to protect my paint work? 5)Or another alternative is... Paint Protection.... Do it once for $300 plus... and just wash with water for 18months... (is it really that good???) Advise needed.... Is it ok to wash and quick wax weekly myself(Do i need to do more?) then send for grooming every 3 months? Thanks in advance.
