  1. Was otw from Clementi to Yio Chu Kang and surprised that the roads, holland road/ farrer road/ Lornie road etc were very clear. Even CTE also. Time was about 7am? What happen? Feels like public holiday..
  2. do all SUV handle floods the same? what about sedans and sports cars? is it true that flood means disaster for such cars? with the freq rains in s'pore, does anyone have any views?
  3. This lazy afternoon nothing much to do, just upload some videos i captured on the road. Mit lancer nearly hit the yellow cab and the black car in front due to someone road hog on lane 1 in KPE. So the Mit, Audi and I decided to find the culprit and voola, another yellow cab not only rd hog but also keep tapping brake for no reason. Please feel free to share your videos too.
  4. Always see lorry driver which look like foreign workers, wondering can they be legally be working as a driver ferrying the worker to and fro work? I tried to google this information but don't seem to be able to find them in MOM or LTA or even SPF. Anyone know?
  5. Dear Bros/Sis, I have sent LTA a list of 'bumpy roads' few years ago asking them to do something. They responded and some improvements were made to the bumpy roads, not 100%, but still better than nothing. Its time to send another list now. Hope you guys can help list the bumpy roads you have encountered (locations/maps) and I will compile them and write officially to LTA. Many thanks. 1. Telok Blangah Rd towards city, just after the junction of Sentosa Gateway, about 10m pass the front of Citiport Centre (below the viaduct). Recent patched-up surface is bumpy, not even safe for bikes. 2. 3. 4. etc
  6. Are our Roads becoming dangerous because of young brats? Recently I was driving as usual on a 60kmph road in the middle lane. All of a sudden a black Hyundai Matrix with a P-Plate swerve and filter from the right into my path barely 2 meters from my front bumper. I had to brake to prevent hitting the Matrix. There were no signs of apology and the Matrix drove in a brazen way. Hence I decided to take a look and filtered right and paced the car. It was a teenage girl apparently unaware of her deed continuing to chat with a male passenger happily. As she was not too attractive I didn't take a longer look and decided to filter in front of her. I gave her about half car length with signal lights, I think she felt belittled as my car was incidentally more than double her car both in price and performance, she quickly filtered left. So i follow suite and since we were both were at about 80kmph, i decided to quickly follow the speed limit and kept at 55kmph.. for some distance toward a traffic light. While doing so, i looked at the rear view mirror. The teenage girl made some signs and hand gestures which I do not understand. She show a hand sign as if filtering, followed by a "so what" gesture. I didn't respond but kept looking. At that point we were stationary at the red lights. I kept looking... I think they couldn't take it anymore and got annoyed. The male passenger show his middle finger. I saw a immediate reaction from the teenage girl as if trying to push away his hand... then they started to smile and laugh. As I am a Methodist, I have a cross at my rear windshield. The male passenger and the female started to make sort of a "Praying" hand gesture and jeering at the same time. I kept my calm. So when the lights turned green, I drove on and as they passed me on the left I showed them a $50 note and make a gesture that says "you do not have money". Through some means I have identified the duo and their residence. If you were in my shoes what would you have done?
  7. was raining and dark this morning. sent my nephew to school and there is a zebra crosiing right outside the school gates. i was the second car, i saw 2 students crossing the zebra crossing with their hands out, "stop" hand sign. i presume the first car did not see them and had no intention to slow down, from my point of view the funny thing is, i can tell the students were aware of it and they bo chay and keeping crossing. at the last min, the first car hard braked to avoid knocking down the students! i am just wondering, since the students already saw the non stopping car, y are they still crossing?! Do they think, since they are on the zebra crossing, they are the king? Yes, we should give way to pedestrian at zebra crossing but there are times when u will find kuku drivers who are no alert enough to spot them... i just wonder how do schools teach their students to cross the street... or is it the students sai lan???
  8. http://www.businesstimes.com.sg/mnt/media/...0/semodel20.jpg Look at the sales for premium cars vs bread and butter cars....... Within the top 10, only b&b cars are Altis and Forte (camry is more luxury). but these 3 add up is even less than BMW 5 series....lol...... So I am wonder who are actually jamming up the roads now.......
  9. Read it here Ever wondered which roads in Singapore are the most hazardous? Or which have the most accidents? We've compiled a list of the top 10 accident-prone roads (not in any particular order) here. Best to avoid these roads when your lucky stars aren't shining. Top 10 accident-prone roads 1.Bukit Timah Road 2.Lentor Avenue 3. Upper Serangoon Road 4. Thomson Road 5. Upp Thomson Road 6. Orchard Road 7. Scotts Road 8. Braddell Road 9. Clementi Road 10. Yio Chu Kang Road Also interesting to note, is that 25 percent of accidents happen on expressways, of which the Pan Island Expressway (PIE) claims the most victims (33 percent). Of these accidents on the PIE, 57 percent of them happen when motorists are travelling towards the direction of Changi Airport. Perhaps this is a good reminder to always plan your time well before a flight to avoid rushing on the road. Statistics are provided by Aviva Singapore, and are based on reported accidents and claims submissions to Aviva's car insurance. Drive safely brudders!
  10. Always interesting to know if we, or rather most if us, in MCF online are all civil towards each other & having healthy discussions, exchange of ideas, debates, seeking advices or simply TCSS when on the roads maybe at the throats of each other, the same folks in the forum. The guy you high-beamed,"gestured wildy with your middle digit" or even coming into blows with after he cut into your lane suddenly without signalling could be the same guy whom you are so thankful that you want to marry your precious daughter to for solving a nagging car problem that has been troubling you for the longest time... That is really interesting
  11. IF YOU are driving in Malaysia, avoid driving over newspaper strewn on the roads as they may be traps set up by carjackers. The latest ploy of carjackers? They set up newspapers traps on the roads, filled with nails and force you to stop your car by puncturing your tyres. According to a STOMP report, the carjacking technique orginated from Indonesia by is no widely adopted by the robbers in Malaysia. A reader, Concern, wrote in an email to the citizen journalism website with stories of carjacking traps to share. He said: "Avoid driving over newspapers strewn on the road. "Some people have lost their lives over this. They drive into certain lonely roads in Jakarta to find pieces of wood with nails in them on the road. This causes their tyres to go flat. "If they get out of their cars, they are set upon by robbers who will take everything they can: car, wallet, anything valuable and sometimes their lives." According to the reader, similar incidents have happened in Kuala Lumpur. He wrote: "This person was driving alone at night when he saw newspapers lying around in the middle of the road. "Without giving it much thought, he drove over them. No one would expect to find heaps of rocks and stones beneath the paper. "He stopped to check the damage. The moment he got out of his car, he was robbed by a group of guys and lost his properties/belongings. Just imagine what would have happen if the driver was a woman. The reader urged drivers to be careful, and "do not stop when you're driving alone at night, no matter what happens." "Avoid driving over newspaper on the road, this could be a new trick for desperate people out there."

  13. Dear Mcfers, I would like to wish everyone a Happy CNY and have a safe drive over this period. Yesterday, I had received 2 calls from 2 friends asking for advice for their cars. One suffered a minor hit & run while the other wrap his 2 weeks old rims. The one that wrap his rims hit a litter on the road. He had gone back to the shop asking for replacement however they do not have the stock for a single rim or 4 of other design as it was a clearance sale when we purchased it 2 weeks ago. Now he can only find his new rims after CNY.... What I remember that almost every CNY, the junction at Yishun Ave 1 towards Mandai junction of Sembawang Road always have serious or fatal accident during the CNY period. Do you know of other junctions that alway have such cases during CNY?
  14. These 3-lane roads are busy with heavy traffic flow..... Besides tailgating, reckless driving, horning, flashing highbeam, middle fingers, there's this interesting thing going on. And the TP is blind to it:- How drivers choose which lane to drive on? The left-most lane ie lane3 is usually THE bus lane, eventhough most of the time just a few buses use it, it's still out of bound to other cars.... so more than half the time lane 3 = ghost lane.... empty even though other lanes are choked.... So we are left with two lanes.... lane 1 and 2. We can find trucks, vans, sometimes also buses (mainly private ones) clogging the lane 2..... no choice, even these are slow vehicles, they cant use the bus lane, so they clog lane 2 What about lane 1? This is the multi-purpose lane: any tom-dick-harry also uses this lane... even on expressways.... so lane 1 is almost as choked up as lane 2. On expressways, there's no bus lane, so you think slow vehicles (trucks etc) will use lane 3?..... wrong, for whatever reasons, lane 3 is almost empty.... trucks like lane 2, not lane 3 .... so we are back to square one:- lane 2 is choked with slow traffic...and these slow vehicles quite often spill over to lane 1 This makes a 3-lane road in practice work as a 2-lane... Nowadays, we see more and more trucks/vans hogging two lanes side by side.... leaving no space for other faster cars ........... For example this morning, I was in lane 2, blocked by a slow truck in front going at 40kmh. Lane 3 (left most one) is empty but this truck driver just refused to use it and let me move pass without going to lane 1 which was quite clogged up with traffic going at 90kmh. I decided to do something about it.... found a gap in lane 1 and quickly overtook the truck and go back to lane 2, dropped my speed to 20kmh, blocking him (give him a taste of his own medicine) until he buay tahan, kept flashing his light behind me... i maintained 20omh..... he LL finally moved to lane 3 where he belonged......... i sped up to normal speed and moved on
  15. i'm one of the drivers who stay and work at the ends of the island, daily i have to drive along PIE to get to work. of late, i see that PIE is "sinking" at certain parts of the PIe- namly after Xilin Ave towards Jurong, there are ridges and sections of the road are apparently raised after it had sunk in...another area is at kallang junction after the downwards slope where you can see a dip on the expressway. is the standard where we built our expressways dropped?
  16. I think PIE near Eunos exit is one of them. The road is wide and straight and yet accidents happen there fairly regularly.
  17. today almost kanna blinded by the high-beam light of one van on the road today. Singapore road is brightly lighted up by street light i wonder y pple still turn on their high-beam when driving
  18. Taking account of the speed limit and often congested road conditions.
  19. Caterham Super 7 CSR200 for sale. Who wants this 200bhp go-kart? http://www.sgcarmart.com/used_cars/info.ph...404&DL=1008
  20. Hi all, just came across this video and many others alike, but decided to share this particular one. Apparently the video recording within the car while the public race was being carried out was salvaged from the wreck and shown. Whether or not editing has been done, regardless, just a gentle reminder, drive safe than be sorry. Your family needs you. Cheers. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PhIsgxMs4iQ...feature=related
  21. it happened at KPE towards the city direction and i was driving at lane 1 heading towards PIE(Tuas). when it was about to reach the exit,i signalled to switched into lane 2 and i saw a car quite far away(about 4 cars length) so thinking nothing of it,i filter in as usual.but to my surprise, the driver actually high beem at me and i continue my drive and filter into lane 3 to exit.but the "evil side" of me wanted to "test" the driver's reaction. this time,i filter into lane 2 again(he/she was about 4-5 cars distant).omg,he/she blasted his horn that the whole tunnel could hear it and it was a few time horning. then i repeated again before going to exit and he/she blasted even more furiously.i was laughing deep in my heart that he/she looks like a fool. upon approaching the exit,i ease my pedal and i knew he/she wanted to catch up and take a glimpse. you know what he/she did? he/she keep pressing the horn a few times just to attract my attention(we were 2 lanes away now) but i did not even bother to take a glance. and i felt sibei song that he/she must be very angry and act like a fool. what a rare driver? i can't understand what the driver is trying to prove/show?
  22. Dear guys and girls, I'm facing a cross road. My current job is taking up alot of my time and I have 2 very young children. I have been working for the past 9 years. When I was single / dating, time was not a factor to consider. I can work till cows come home. This job pays well but no time to enjoy with my family, friends and self. As usual, I got HDB loans and car loan to cover. No other liabilities. Salary is able to cover all loans, credit card expenses. I work about 16 hours a day. Play with my children only 1 hour. Talk with my wife for half hr. Some times, don't even talk cuz she will be watching tv while I work at home. By the time, I finished, she's asleep. I am thinking of changing another job but the pay is not gg to be as good as what I'm drawing. I have got job offers currently but hesitant for fear that the salary will not be able to afford my lifestyle. New salary should be able to cover present loans. Just that because of lower salary, got to tighten belt a little. But of course, lower paying job means lesser expectations and time spent on work too. What would you do? Time VS Money. I need your serious advice on this. Please poll.

    Beautiful Roads of SG

When Singapore roads are mentioned, the image conjured is often of well paved roads with HDB blocks rising in all directions and the next traffic light a few meters away. Hop over to our neighbouring country and the view changes dramatically. Especially when going up to places like Ipoh where dramatic views are a sight to behold along the way. Over in the European countries roads such as the Le Viaduc de Millau just demands you to slow down and take in the amazing sight. Le Viaduc de Millau So what if you just want to take a chill out drive on a lazy weekend afternoon? Well, thankfully, there are still places in Singapore where is more than just concrete and traffic lights. Take Mandai road for example, located at the peripherals of the Upper Seletar Reservoir. This gorgeous, although rather short road mimics the feel of driving along in a countryside with a beautiful lake to the left. Travel pass it in the evening on a clear day, the water ripples and dazzles with the setting sun. A picture postcard moment. A countryside feel It's a pity I can't stop to take a better picture, it is hard to drive and snap at the same time. If you fancy just a straight long drive without feeling like you are driving in town, there is the all famous Changi Coast Road that runs for a good 8km or so along side the Changi Airport Runway. When I am feeling stressed or depress, driving down this road almost always gurantee a quick relieve. Best of all, do it driving top down. Ah, driving nirvana. Changi Coast Road Cruising with one of these top down on a coastal road is a bliss
