  1. Which roads in S'pore have the most accidents? Which roads are accidents waiting to happen?
  2. Have started this petition for the authorities to do something abt dangerous cyclists on SGP roads. http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/cyclistinsingapore/ Long and short of it. Last week, I was going for dinner and parked my car in a left side parking lot on a one way street. After shutting the car down, looked out, saw nothing, and opened my door. This ang moh cyclist rode past at quite a fast speed and siam my door. He fell. I quickly came out of my car and asked how he was. He was shouting but I couldnt hear what he was saying. After assisting him to the side of the road, then I could make out what he was shouting. He was shouting " you f*cking bas**d, chinese ass**le etc etc". I remained calm and asked him again how he was. He shouted I wanted to kill him etc. I told him calmly, first, you have no headlights or anything bright, other than the 2 cheap and weak batteried blinking LED which beyond 2 meters, u cant see. 2ndly, u were going quite quickly. He repeated his insults again with the racial statement. This time, I lost it. I told him loudly, I am not absolving myself from this else I would not have even bothered seeing how u r. And you dont need to repeat those f*cking racial statements. He went on rambling. I took a look at his knee and there was a 2mm cut. By then a crowd has gathered. He insisted I call the police, which I did. I was put to a TP police officer who told me this is a small case, make a report within 24 hours and let your insurance handle if he claims. However, the cyclist was like a mad dog, yelling away in the background. So in the end, the TP officer promised to send someone down but will take some time. While waiting, the fellow repeated his shitty statements which I duly ignored and told him, that probably he is living in the past; thinking he is a white supremist. After 20 mins still no sign of TP. Guess what!!? The fellow shouted at me and demanded my mobile phone!!! I asked him why the hell do u need my mobile phone? He said, so I want to prove you called the cops instead of leading me on. This is really KNN. I told him flat in his face..u r not getting to see my mobile phone even if u r white. I am sorry but I have every rights not to give u my mobile phone. To prevent further escalation, I called the NPP which is close by. They sent 2 officers down who took down our particulars. I was not particularly happy with one of the officers.... who told the ang moh.. u need to report sick and get your doc to give u 3 days or more MC. Then u can claim... else cannot claim. WTF....thats instigating. Pissed. Anyway, after exchanging particulars, the mad man decided to ride off. 20 mins later, the TP came down. I related to him what happened and he examined my car to ensure there is no contact or damages. He took down my particulars and rode off. Following day, I filed a formal report at the NPP, indicating a NO CONTACT "accident" plus the racial insults hurled at me. I shall leave it at that first until I get further updates from TP.
  3. Not sure if this is covered before. I have thought of a couple but I believe there are more things you can come up with. 1) Dedicated cycling lane, eg. 1m width, on the most left lane of the road so that cyclists do not take up the whole left lane cycling side by side and chit chat. 2) Countdown timer on traffic lights. People will argue that this way people will try and dash across the light when its near to red. However is dashing across green light better than dashing across amber or even red? It can save a few red light beaters with the timer.
  4. Nope, this question is not meant for me to find out where to make out although I am as tiko as can be.... I got a car for my wife and since she has laid off driving for 10 years, I gonna give her a refreshing course. Hence I am looking for roads with little traffic and secluded so that we do not expose ourselves to any danger. Can anyone propose any places?
  5. merry christmas to all n happy new.. when u drink ....better dunt drive as rd blocks will b ard the corner w/o us knowing cheers
  6. My friend spotted a tow truck with a vandalised mini ray yesterday with the sticker "mini ray special edition. makes everyone envious..." and it says go www.mini.com.sg to find out why.... quite interesting, he said a lot of pedestrians were looking at it and smiling He managed to take a photo and uploaded it... http://img25.imageshack.us/i/minizp.jpg/
  7. Someone has reported in another car forum:- "From the ECP exit towards TPE, there is a particular section of the road just next to where there is a left exit to Changi Business Park. This part of the road always have standing water during heavy rain and is not obvious to drivers till u hit the puddle, so watch out. Even if u drive slowly, if the car next to u hit the puddle hard, u'll get a large splash of water on your windscreen. " Do you know of any other hazardous roads?? Cheers n thanks
  8. F1 Roads are packed with cars
  9. I am a car owner who uses Lornie Road/Farrer Road to commute to work. My timing is around 7.30am to 8am. Last week I encountered several traffic jams because of broken down vehicles. In the morning, I remembered there were a stalled vehicle along Lornie Road on Wed/Thur last week and a stalled vehicle on the bridge along Farrer Road on Thur/Fri. On both occasions, the cars were COE vehicles and the result was a massive traffic jam which made me late for work. My point to you guys is, can we slap these COE car owners with fines so that they will take the trouble to maintain their vehicles? IMHO, we all know that Lornie Road/Farrer Road or all other roads leading to the city for that matter are very packed in the morning already, hence we cannot afford any stalled vehicles to take up one whole lane while waiting for a tow truck to remove them. This is seriously not fair to the other road commuters who properly maintain my vehicle periodically. What's your opinion guys? Cheers!
  10. i know this has been discussed before but since the 7th month is coming, can anyone give a recap of some of the roads that we should take note of? 1)Lim Chu Kang Road (along the cementary)
  11. How many times in a year, does one read about a tree causing damages to cars, pedestrians, motorists, and passengers as well as causing accidents and traffice snarls? If you drive along any road or expressways, there are many locations where trees branches overhangs the road or expressway which can potentially break and cause unimaginable grief. I take the tree branches overhanging the expressway flyover near Bt Timah Plaza heading towards Tuas for example; - there is one particular thick and old looking branch overhanging almost 90 degree angle across the bend of the expressway flyover in the direction of Tuas. I always keep an eye on that whenever I have to drive pass that stretch. The branch is THICK and obviously very heavy. Should that break and come crashing down, I dare not imagine the kind of grief THAT will bring depending on time of day and traffic conditions. I think that the authorities concerned are NOT doing enough, fast enough to address this Tree Hazards on our roads. I believe this problem would not have become, if the trees along our roads, byways, and expressways, had been maintained well in advance to prevent just such issues that are now escalating. I agree that trees provides greenery shade and promotes better atmosphere, but left overgrown and not monitored for safety (especially those along roads and expressways) it will lead to a lot of claim against the relevant autorities as well as loss of lives & earnings to road users and the general public. Recently, a case wherein a mini-bus diver whose mini-bus was crushed by a falling tree during a thunderstorm, had his claim for compensation redirected to the Horticultural Contractor the government engaged to plant the trees. Do you think this is ethical and fair to both victim and contractor/s?? What are your opinions on this issue, and any suggestions? ================================ Tree falls on cab in Woodlands, driver sent to NUH Posted: 07 June 2009 2213 hrs SINGAPORE: Strong winds and heavy rain caused some disruption in Woodlands on Sunday afternoon. A tree fell on the road at Woodlands Avenue 2, near Causeway Point, at about 12.30pm. It hit a cab and the driver was sent to the National University Hospital (NUH) after he complained of chest pains. Another tree at a nearby road also fell due to bad weather. - CNA/so
  12. Any ideas on the most practical means for self defense when confront by thugs at NSH R&R or when kanna carjacked? Since it is illegal in Singapore to import taser/stun guns/pepper sprays, etc. How about E2 Defender torchlight?
  13. This 'monster truck' not only towers above other vehicles on the road, it also has metal bars installed as bumpers. A vehicle such as this would likely make a mess of any vehicle it got into an accident with, says a STOMPer. Here's what the concerned STOMPer had to say: "This 'monster truck' was spotted in a carpark near Sin Ming Avenue. "As you can see clearly from the photo, the body of the 'monster truck' is well above the normal height and metal bars were installed as bumpers. "I can only imagine the damage that could be inflicted to another party's vehicle should this 'monster truck' get involved in an accident. "Could the LTA comment if this kind of dangerous vehicle is allowed on our roads?"

  17. Hi guys.. Wonder if you guys encountered such stupid drivers.. I was along Fort road and is preparing to enter ECP towards changi, thus was driving along the slip road that joins with ECP. In front of me there is first a van, then an altis, then me. Usually when you are about the join the main expressway traffic, there is a chevron, then pass the chevron you will start to filter to the lanes on the right. The van is slow, so driver decides to stays on left most lane. The altis is following closely behind the van, without any indication that he is gg to filter right. As the speed is slow, i signaled, checked blind spot and start to accel and filter to right.. Then at this moment, the stupid altis starts to edge out without any warning as my car nose is already at his rear wheels level. I honked and he just carried on his manouvre. To avoid an accident, i have no choice by to jz take avoidance measure and go right again.. then to my horror there is fast approaching white grandis, which has to slowed down as he witness what was happening infront and he was prepared... To the Grandis, my sincere apologies.. to the altis uncle, please wake up your farking idea.
  18. its cheaper than jazz/fit FC that is only slightly poorer than jazz/fit (i believe) sirion sports version looks good (to me) but over last week the ratio i saw was like 50 jazzes/fits to ONE pathetic sirion (& 1 passo!) why ah?
  19. With increasing FTs and locals switching to cycling as a means of transportation, there seems to have been a rise in incidences on the road involving cyclists. One such incident involves a cyclist and a taxi. http://singaporeseen.stomp.com.sg/singapor...nt.jsp?id=31637 "Cabby acts like hooligan when told to stop after accident" - STOMP Discussion thread initiated by cyclist here - http://talkback.stomp.com.sg/forums/showthread.php?t=42881 As a driver, I've witnessed some very reckless cyclists on the roads. Some may swerve from the left most lane across into the pedestrian crossing when the traffic light turns amber; effectively switching from a road-cyclist to a "pedestrian"-cyclist in a split second (same trick for zebra crossings). Quite a few can't seem to cycle straight and would occasionally cut/swerve into the paths of cars behind them. A few rare ones seem to think they have the acceleration equivalent to a 1001-hp Bugatti Veyron and chiong a right-turn at a cross junction causing cars behind to brake abruptly. While these are a few bad apples, I understand there are many better cyclists with better road manners and experience who do keep themselves and others safe on the roads. The thing is, as the population of cyclists increase, so would the number of bad apples. And many times when accidents happen, the driver of the car would usually take a rap. Sure, drivers can be safe and keep a distance etc. but when more bad-cyclists (or king-of-the-road-types) appear, i can bet traffic congestion will get worse, not to mention the accident rates. There are also many times that cyclists escape an accident themselves, but only to cause another involving the cars behind them. So who's gonna pay? Traffic congestion - ERP - motorists. Accidents - insurance - motorists. Accident involving cyclist - blame - motorist.
