  1. Planning to leave Singapore sometime next year.. No need to use car anymore. So planning to get rid of it. Car is bought 2.8yrs ago, 1.6L. COE was about 25-28k kind of range. I am on 7-yr loan, and if I scrap now, I need to top up about 16K. Monthly installment is $900+. (yeah, low downpay.. silly of me.. :) ...) No accident, regular agent servicing. Only minor scratches and a few dents around the door trim. So is it better to sell to 2nd hand dealer ? Roughly how much more I can get back ? Looking at minimizing loss. No one in my family will be using the car after I leave. So no point continuing the payment and leave it there. Also thinking of whether saving money on the servicing, even if it is a few hundred bucks for the next few months, up to 1 year. Hope that will not affect my resale value.. Any expert bro here can help ?
  2. still confuse , kindly enlighten me my understanding as: Trade in = OMV + rest COE value + Body value Scrap = OMV + rest COE value if wrong, please correct me if Trade in can get additional body value, why still got people choose scrap instaed of Trade in

  6. Dear All Was at the Mackenzie Used Car centre on Sat to see a Red 1991 starlet with a remaining COE till 08/06.It is on a 5 year COE and cannot be renewed. Asking price is $1.7k and transfer fee of $142 would be paid by the buyer. COE rebate if scrap this month end would be $800+ Car interior looks ok, traces of oil at the front end of the grill where the oil filter sits, the back windscreen bears a different number to the car plate number. The engine sound looks quiet enough and aircon is cold enough. The interesting thing the car dealer told me the car body is worth $600 if going to scrap. Any one could advise if this is a good buy. Thanks
  7. hi guys, just want to find out more about scrapping of cars. 1. is the scrap value = parf paper value + COE rebate + car body value ? Is the car body value brand/size dependent, and normally what's the rate like ? 2. when scrapping the car, is there any rebate for Roadtax and Insurance? 3. How long is the process, and can layman like me do the job, or need to go through some agency? If latter, what's the % commission? 4. I presume the $$ value out from 1 will be in the form of cash $$ and parf paper value. Can the parf paper $$ be used to knock off used car purchase, or only new car? thanks!

  13. Visited Mazda showroom today. M2 at $70,888 and M3 btw $78,888 to $85,888 (depending on the model). What puzzled me is that the SE said the scrap value is the same fr all the makes. How is this possible? Car delivery is in May 04 if it helps.
  14. Read in the other forum (Toyota sg forum) that a SE bought a scrap cert to discount/offset the purchase of a new car even though the guy is buying his first car, i.e., no old car for trade in. Is this a normal practice by SE's?
  15. After reading so many posts about PARF, ARF, etc. I have updated my car calculator to calculate car scrap values. All you need is the OMV and COE values. Values should be accurate but use at your own risk! In addition, Gahmen rules are subject to change at any time! carcal.xls
