  1. From Channel News Asia: All 27 constituencies will be contested, meaning the ruling party will not be returning to power on nomination day? We will have to wait & see.... http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/sin...1114574/1/.html Singapore GE: Opposition parties to contest all seats By S Ramesh/Evelyn Choo | Posted: 05 March 2011 1847 hrs SINGAPORE: Singapore's major opposition parties have come to an agreement to contest all 27 constituencies in the next General Election (GE), which is due before February 2012. At Saturday's meeting, they also agreed to avoid three-cornered fights in Group Representation Constituencies (GRCs), meaning most of the GRCs are likely to see a straight fight. However, in the case of the 12 Single-Member Constituencies (SMCs), the party leaders said discussions are ongoing. If the opposition parties keep to their declaration, the next GE is likely to see a situation where the PAP will not be returned to power on Nomination Day. Going into the details of where they stand to contest, Workers' Party (WP) chairman Sylvia Lim said her party will be in the Aljunied and East Coast GRCs. She said the WP is also interested in the newly-carved out Moulmein-Kallang GRC as well as Nee Soon GRC. As for the SMCs, she said her party is keen on five. These are Hougang, Joo Chiat, Punggol East, Sengkang West and Whampoa. When asked if the WP will contest the Ang Mo Kio GRC, Ms Lim said the party will not be doing so as it has to balance its resources according to its strategy. But Channel NewsAsia understands that other parties may decide to take on Ang Mo Kio GRC. The Reform Party's Mr Kenneth Jeyaretnam said his party will be contesting in the West Coast and Chua Chu Kang GRCs and also the single seats of Radin Mas, Pioneer and Hong Kah North. Meanwhile the Democratic Progressive Party's Seow Khee Leng said it will take on the Tanjong Pagar and Marine Parade GRCs. The National Solidarity Party intends to contest Tampines and Jurong GRCs. As for the Singapore Democratic Alliance (SDA), it plans to contest the Pasir Ris-Punggol GRC and also the single-MP seats of Punggol East and Radin Mas. Sengkang West is also under consideration, it said. Potong Pasir's MP, Mr Chiam See Tong, said he wants to contest Bishan-Toa Payoh GRC and his Singapore People's Party (SPP) also wants to run in Potong Pasir and Hong Kah North single-member constituencies. The Singapore Democratic Party (SDP) meanwhile said it would go for Holland-Bukit Timah GRC and the Bukit Panjang single-member ward. Saturday's meeting was the opposition parties' second in a week and the last to decide on the seat allocation for the coming General Election. However some of the individual parties will continue to meet on a one-on-one basis to come to a bilateral agreement, especially for the single-member constituencies, to avoid three-cornered fights. Independent candidate Andrew Kuan, who is eyeing the Joo Chiat seat, was also at Saturday's meeting. But he left the venue when organisers told him the discussion was not for independent candidates but opposition parties. - CNA/ir
  2. Not sure where this topic should go, so here it is. I have a pair of stock seats from car A and I intend to install the seats in car B. This pair of stock seats come with double locking rails and brackets originally for car A. The problem is, car A and B are not the same model, so what should be done to make the seats fit into car B? And where is a good workshop to get this done? Please give some recommendations as I am quite clueless in this area of modification. Thanks.

  5. Hi all. I have a on the way in jan. i've been looking around at all the baby stuff i need, and i find myself a little confused by child seats. Most models i see seem too large to fit a newborn; they look like their size is meant to accommodate above a year old where the child can at least be propped upright. their seat straps also look like will be way too loose. Or am i wrong about this? Do these seats really one size fits all including newborns? Anyone with experience to share much appreciated. Also interested in secondhand child seats with reasonable price if anybody willing to let go, particularly a clean example that the owner confirms can fit a newborn. Thanks in advance.

  22. TRAVELLERS can look forward to more low fares when the Singapore-Kuala Lumpur market is throw open to competition in December. In the lead-up to total liberalisaton, Tiger Airways announced on Thursday that it has received the all-clear to operate five daily flights between the two cities. To celebrate, the low-cost carrier which now has just one daily flight, is offering 50,000 free seats. Travellers will still have to pay taxes and other surcharges that come to about $120 for a round trip. Bookings start on Monday. Jetstar Asia which also operates a daily Singapore-KL flight and Malaysia's AirAsia which has two flights a day are also expected to announce capacity increases soon. The opening of the market follows years of domination by Singapore Airlines and Malaysia Airlines on the route. In February, governments on both sides decided to allow low-cost carriers to operate the route but with restrictions on capacity. The deal then, was that the market would be fully liberalised in December. Tiger's managing director in Singapore Rosalynn Tay said of the full market opening: 'This is a huge milestone in Asian low fare aviation. 'I would like to congratulate the forward thinking of the Singapore and Malaysian governments and aviation authorities in their progression of a liberalisation agenda that benefits both economies.....The customer is the big winner here.' The opening of the Singapore-KL market is part of a bigger plan for liberalisation of Asean skies. Also from December, carriers from the 10 Asean member countries will be free to operate as many flights as they wish from their capital cities to any other capital city within the grouping. The long-term agenda is for a Single Aviation Market by 2015 which will allow carriers to criss-cross the region without any restrictions on where they can land and take-off, and how many people they can carry. Ladies & Gentlemen, get yr fingers ready on 29/9/08.
