  5. My car came to a halt at a pedestrian crossing. A man was crossing, he was halfway to the other side of the road. A bike came from nowhere, the rider didn't slow down or stop, but zoomed past the man, a few cm away. If the man had walked a second faster, he would have been knocked down. I couldn't see the no. plate, the motorcycle was too fast, and my in-car camera couldn't capture clearly. can't seem to embed the video...

  11. 3 years only compared to 10 years for the swimming coach? --- Home > Breaking News > Singapore > Story Apr 11, 2011 Second man in SLA scam jailed three years By Elena Chong Anthony Xavier Foo Doon Tong, 43, then a partner of Ribbons and Rolls Marketing Services (R&R), is the second person to be convicted and sentenced. -- ST PHOTO: GEORGE GASCON A MAN who conspired with two employees of Singapore Land Authority (SLA) to cheat the statutory board of about $297,000 was jailed for three years on Monday. Anthony Xavier Foo Doon Tong, 43, then a partner of Ribbons and Rolls Marketing Services (R&R), is the second person to be convicted and sentenced. In January this year, former swim coach Ho Yen Teck, 31, who benefited about $200,000 for his role in the conspiracy, was jailed for 10 years. He had admitted to 21 of 195 charges. Foo pleaded guilty to 10 of 45 charges of abetting with SLA deputy director of technology and infrastructure department Koh Seah Wee, 40, and SLA manager Lim Chai Meng, 37, to deceive SLA into paying between $2,032 and $63,847 under contracts for which work was not done in 2007 and 2009. Of the $297,000 involved, his share was about $94,500. The cases against Koh and Lim have been moved to the High Court while the cases of six other contractors are still in pre-trial stages in the lower court. CASE BACKGROUND: The court heard that Foo was roped in in October 2007 by Lim into the conspiracy as a 'vendor''. Once transactions were awarded and paid to R&R, Foo would be given a cut of the payment made by the SLA. Other than preparing invoices according to Lim's instructions, Foo knew that the firm would not need to do any work for the SLA to get payment. Foo agreed to the arrangement and concurrently entered into both legitimate and fictitious small value purchase transactions with the SLA. He could have been jailed for up to seven years and fined for each offence committed before February 2008, and up to 10 years and fined on each of two other charges after 2008. Tweet

  13. Yahoo News report : 'Second wife' turns out to be a transvestite Kuala Lumpur (The Star/ANN) - A 35-year-old Malaysian woman spoke about her heartache when she found out that her husband's "second wife" was a transvestite. Known only as Sara, she told Malaysian newspaper Metro Ahad in Kuala Lumpur that her husband had initially told her that he had remarried in Thailand about 18 months ago. Sara, who has two children after five years of marriage, said she was devastated about her husband's new "wife" but decided to accept the situation. However, she was stunned when she received a telephone call from a religious officer one day that her husband had been caught for khalwat. "On the night that I got the call, he was supposed to be at the home of the 'second wife'. So, I thought he was keeping yet another woman," Sara said. However, the enforcement officers told her that her husband had been detained with a transvestite. Sara's husband eventually admitted that he never had a second wife. "He had merely made up a story about remarrying so that I wouldn't question his whereabouts. "He even told me that the transvestite had treated him better than I did," she said.
  14. While stressing that the time is not important, India's Narain Karthikeyan, wearing a brand new Hispania Racing suit, upped his pace to clock a best of one minute, 17.769 seconds on the second day of the pre-season Formula One testing in Valencia on Wednesday. The 34-year old Karthikeyan covered 80 laps (320.4 km) and expressed satisfaction on the progress being made at the Ricardo Tomo circuit. "We have been working through the programme. We did 80 laps, which is good. Obviously the times are not so important. We were not going for times today, just building up to it nicely. "Besides, I have tried several Pirelli compounds, and therefore I feel really satisfied. Hopefully, we will do some more work tomorrow (Thursday) in the same direction," said Karthikeyan. Karthikeyan's time on the second day, that was sixth quickest among the 15 ran timed laps, was a definite improvement as compared to his best of 1:18.0029 (45 laps) that he did Tuesday. Karthikeyan looked to be in an excellent mental and physical shape, as he went through the familiarising process with his new team. "Narain has done once again a very good job in this second day of testing. Times are not now important as we pay attention to the data we are collecting," said team principal Colin Kolles. "He has completed 80 laps, which is almost the double of what he did yesterday. I am very happy with his progress and I am sure he will keep on improving." Force India's Paul di Resta continued the team's winter testing programme, completing more than 111 laps and clocking a best of 1:13.844 that was the third fastest, behind double World champion Fernando Alonso of Ferrari (1:13.307) and the 2010 winner Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull-Renault (1:13.614). "Another good day of testing for the team, gathering lots of information for the guys to work on as we prepare for the debut of the VJM04 next week," said di Resta. "At this stage, we are not going for times, just trying to get representative data to work on. I am feeling good and well integrated into the team and my new role." 20. Hi all, Due to change in work arrangement, will need to get another car for myself. I am planning to purchase a used car for transport from home to work only. Considered long term rental but monthly payment seems too high about 1000pm. I am thinking between either the Optra or Lancer. http://www.sgcarmart.com/used_cars/info.ph...767&DL=1009 http://www.sgcarmart.com/used_cars/info.ph...833&DL=1000 Appreciate if any current owners out there can give their FR on the two rides above. Basically the car will be used only on week days and parked in the office. I prefer something which has low maintenance(like reasonably riced spareparts) and in the long run provides little or no inconvenience. Thanks. **Note that these are the two models I'm currently thinking with budget below 31K,
