  2. Hihi, What is the difference if you renew your motor insurance thru a broker OR ask for quote direct from insurance company OR thru a bank? Which the latter usually got freebies (eg. petrol voucher, car grooming....etc) So far now only DBS offers $80 petrol voucher for Driveshield and underwrite by MSIG. Any feedback on this ins. comp? I remember last year when I renew my old car insurance, got $80 petrol voucher and a car grooming session, and one month later sold my old car, got pro-rated refund from MSIG, they didn't ask me to pay back the freebies

  13. Woman motorcyclist lodged under trailer By Sumathi V Selvaretnam The motorcyclist, a Chinese woman in her early 30s sustained leg injuries and was semi-conscious when taken to Tan Tock Seng Hospital. -- PHOTO: COURTESY TO MR R. S. NATHAN SBS bus driver Mr R.S. Nathan was shocked to see this motorcycle partially lodged beneath a trailer along Mountbatten Road at about 9am on Tuesday. He snapped a picture of it with his mobile phone and sent it to Stomp. The woman appeared unconscious but was still sitting on her motorcycle with her head slumped over the handlebars. The front tyre of the motorcyle was caught under the back of the trailer. 'She looked like she was sleeping. She didn't fall down but was balancing on her toes,' said Mr Nathan, 60. Police said that they received a call at 9am about the accident. The motorcyclist, a Chinese woman in her early 30s sustained leg injuries and was semi-conscious when taken to Tan Tock Seng Hospital. Police are investigating the incident. http://www.straitstimes.com/Latest%2BNews/...99.html?vgnmr=1 For a moment I tot the President moonlighting as a Transport Leader... oops Bus Captain... oops Bus driver.
  14. Started this partly as I am looking for a vacuum cleaner for the car as well as trying out the polling system. Thanks for your participation and help.
  15. Hi, As a new driver with less than a year's experience, I've never bothered to check my car's conditions. I've only opened the bonnet once, and only checked the tyre pressure once in a year. To my horror, all tyres were underflated (155 - 170 KPA rather than the vendor recommended 205 KPA). Every time I just sent the car to C&C for service, and for the past two trips, each cost me around $400. Some bros here commented it was too exp. So my question is: to what extent can I do the maintenance myself? Change of engine oil, brake fluid, send car to tyre shopt for balancing and rotation? Also, is there any short course (like 2-3 hours in total) that teaches you basic car maintenance? Thanks.
  16. This inspired from the thread on how much the car sellers make from us Loberts. So will you self import to beat the game? One way is to buy direct from a large importer a vechicle & do all the paper work to register the vehicle in Sg. Will be less complicated that importing direct from Jap/Germany but still save a huge chunk of money! Anyway the details for self import is here if your intrested. http://www.onemotoring.com.sg/publish/onem...portation_.html
  17. Hello forummers, Planning to go to Hokkaido in July this year. Wondering if it is gonna to be bloody expensive to do self-drive there? That's what the agency promotes "Best way to enjoy Hokkaido is through self-drive". Anyone got recommendations?
  18. Security guards claim cameras in Great World City carpark are dummies LAST week, my husband went to Great World City for dinner. Being a careful person, he deliberately chose a parking lot near a security camera. When he went to fetch his car after dinner, he found that someone had knocked his car and that the culprit had already driven off. My husband immediately headed to the guard room, hoping to trace the culprit from the security camera. To his surprise, the guard said that all the security cameras in the carpark are dummies. Only the camera at the exit/entrance is real. And it is the same for the cameras in the shopping mall too. The guard also told him that this issue had been brought up to management a long time ago but that nothing had been done. Blemheim (26-Dec) - not a popular town, maybe will reroute Kaikoura (27-Dec) Christchurch (28-Dec) Christchurch -> Singapore (29-Dec) Car rental: It seems like thrifty is the cheapest car rental I can find in NZ. Are they reliable ? http://www.thrifty.co.nz (1.8L - 2.0L), NZ$59 per day (excl insurance) http://www.budget.co.nz (1.8L - 2.0L), NZ$68 per day (excl insurance) I'm taking 1.8L-2.0L because it is only $5 more expensive than 1.6L Accomodations: Most likely I will book individual motel over the Internet instead of using the Golden Chain (limited choice). Any recomendations of motel based on above itenery ? Any tips and comments are welcomed and greatly appreciated. Thanks guys !
  22. Hi, I'm planning to visit Europe in Dec 07. Germany (Berlin) -> Chez (Prague) -> Austria (Vienna) -> Hungary (Budaphest) -> Italy (Rome) -> Swiz (Lucern) -> Germany I'm contemplating whether to buy global eurorail pass (quite ex) or buy budget airline from city-to-city (cheaper but not as convenience as rail, beside the duration is not shorter by a lot) Anyone got a Europe itinerary to share for reference Thanks

  24. At this time of year, you've got to watch out for April Fool's Day stories - but we can assure you that this isn't one of them. Scientists really have invented paint which heals itself after it's been scratched. All it takes is a few rays of sunshine for the paint to close over the scar, just like skin over a wound. Cars get their glossy shine from a special transparent layer on top of the coloured paint. But this ultra-thin coating is scratched by thousands of tiny impacts from road grit and from rubbing when the car is washed. Now, boffins at German firm Bayer have worked out how to make this vital top layer heal itself. The magic formula is called 2K-PUR Clear Coat, and a spokesman told us: "It heals right before your eyes in a few minutes." In laboratory tests, a panel painted with the new coating was scratched until it had lost 30 per cent of its shine. But after being gently warmed, it recovered virtually all its former sparkle. "Now, we're working on making the scratches disappear in cold weather," explained the spokesman. The coating won't make production until long-term tests are completed. But preliminary trials show it can withstand being washed with sand and even doused in acid. Max Glaskin
