  12. On Wednesday April 20, 2011, 7:29 am EDT By Kelvin Soh HONG KONG (Reuters) - Apple's next-generation iPhone will have a faster processor and will begin shipping in September, three people with direct knowledge of the company's supply chain said. The production of the new iPhone will start in July/August and the smartphone will look largely similar to the iPhone 4, one of the people said on Wednesday. The iPhone -- introduced in 2007 with the touchscreen, on-demand application template now adopted by its rivals -- remains the gold standard in the booming smartphone market. Reports on the timeline of the new iPhone launch vary, though it is largely expected that Apple will likely refresh its iPhone 4 later this year. The sources declined to be identified because the plans for the new iPhone were not yet public. An Apple spokeswoman in Hong Kong was not available for comment. The iPhone is one of Apple's most successful products, with more than 16 million sold in the last quarter of 2010 and the product accounted for more than a third of the company's sales in the quarter. The current iPhone 4 was launched by Apple Chief Executive Steve Jobs in June last year and began shipping the same month in 2010. Apple sources many of its components from Taiwan-based suppliers, many of whom are expected to benefit from an uptick in sales as some of them rely on the U.S. company for about 20-40 percent of their business, said Vincent Chen, an analyst at Yuanta Securities. "For some suppliers, Apple is their cash cow, or their bread and butter," Chen said. "With all these versions being launched so frequently, it will be the so-called low-margin suppliers, such as those that assemble the phones, who will benefit the most." Suppliers to the new iPhone include camera module maker Largan Precision Co Ltd, touchscreen panel maker Wintek Corp and case maker Foxconn Technology Co Ltd, two of the people said. The companies would begin production either in July or August before shipping components to Hon Hai Precision Industry Co Ltd, flagship of Foxconn Technology Group, for assembly, they said. Officials at Largan, Wintek and Foxconn declined to comment. On Wednesday, Largan's Taipei-listed shares ended up 3.7 percent, Hon Hai rose 4.3 percent and Foxconn rose 6.6 percent, outpacing the benchmark TAIEX share index's 2 percent advance. Apple, a big purchaser of touchscreen displays and flash memory, is also dependent on Japan for some of its key components, sparking concern that the disruption due to the crisis there may hurt its gross margins. Apple is expected to report another spectacular quarter on Wednesday, tempered by growing caution over how supply constraints will squeeze margins and restrain iPhone and iPad sales. 13. I just get out of my carpark...on the small road turning onto the main road...A lady driving a BMW 320 probably at 90km or more on a 50km road honked at me because I chong out and she need to slow now...yes she is still very far when I turn out...she is speeding real excessively...well...I remember I should not be a hogger regardless of speed...so I pick up to 80..and seriously that is that faster I would go on a two lane neighbourhood road when required....and well...I am on the left lane...so please don't ask me to give way....I can't...she overtook me on by right (give me the what the h-e-l-l hand signal)and turn right at the next junction...I am 80...she is ?? is there a need for such rush hour ??? I was on the expressway...traffic was kind of heavy so the right lane probably is going at less than 60km...a RAV4 actually stop and give way to a 44 seater bus to get onto the right most lane... So I saw the ""too gracious"" side of singaporean and the XXXX side this morning within the short 30 mins drive from home to office... How are you getting along on the road today?????

  20. Government will undertake a review of the Preferential Additional Registration Fee (PARF) and Certificate of Entitlement (COE) rebates , with a view to make it easier for car owners to give up their cars and switch to public transport. In order to make it easier for car owners to give up their cars and switch to public transport, the Land Transport Authority will now allow cash exchanges of un-used and valid PARF/COE rebates. This is an additional option available to owners. Owners who want to use their rebates to offset the upfront taxes payable for a new vehicle according to the practice today can continue to do so. The LTA will continue to issue rebates to vehicle owners upon de-registration of their vehicles. The rebates will continue to be transferable and be valid for 12 months. This serves to provide flexibility to vehicle owners. PARF/COE rebate owners may submit their applications for encashment online through the ONE.MOTORING portal from 1 September 2008. Alternatively, they can mail the completed application form (Form FR02) for encashment (downloadable from www.onemotoring.com.sg) to the LTA from 1 September 2008. Once the application is successfully processed by the LTA, the registered owners of the PARF/COE rebates will receive a refund equivalent to the rebate amount via cheque at their registered address or through GIRO credit into their designated refund bank account registered with the LTA. The LTA will provide more details on the procedures for application for encashment nearer the implementation date of 1 September 2008. Extension of Validity Period for PARF/COE Rebates Expiring between 1 July 2008 and 29 September 2008 To facilitate the implementation of this change for the benefit of rebate owners, PARF/COE rebates that are still valid and un-used with expiry dates between 1 July 2008 and 29 September 2008 (both dates inclusive) will be extended to 30 September 2008. Affected owners will receive a notification from the LTA on the revised expiry date of their PARF/COE rebates within the next 2 weeks.
  21. Abstract from CNA, http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/sin.../357513/1/.html SINGAPORE: Car owners will now have the option to exchange their Preferential Additional Registration Fee (PARF) and the Certificate of Entitlement (COE) rebates for cash. The change follows a government review of the rebates to make it easier for motorists to give up their cars and switch to public transport. From September 1, registered owners of unused and valid PARF/COE rebates can apply to the Land Transport Authority for encashment. Once their applications are processed, they will receive a refund equivalent to the rebate amount. To facilitate the implementation of this change, PARF/COE rebates with expiry dates between July 1 and September 29 will be extended to the end of September. Those affected will be informed of the revised expiry dates within the next two weeks. Motorists who wish to use their PARF/COE rebates to offset the upfront taxes for a new vehicle can continue to do so. The LTA says it will continue to issue rebates to car owners upon de-registration of their vehicles. The rebates will remain transferable and valid for 12 months to provide flexibility to vehicle owners. Transport Minister Raymond Lim had announced in March this year that the government would be reviewing the PARF and COE rebates. This was to tie in with the overall effort to make public transport a choice mode for all commuters, including car owners.
