  4. Hi,i just bought a short shifter and will be DIYing it myself. we know that short shifter helps reduce the throw of the gear distance between each gear. my new shifter is actually about 2 cm longer than my stock one but the throw distance is about 20% shorter. but then,i have the urge to cut it shorter by about 3-3.5cm which is shorter than my stock ones. therefore before i make my final decision,i would like to hear your views. thanks for reading.

  8. SINGAPORE (AFP) - - Despite its impressive economic development, Singapore fails to meet international standards for political and human rights and there are concerns about the independence of its judiciary, an association of lawyers said. The International Bar Association's Human Rights Institute identified a number of areas in which Singapore fell far short of international norms, said the association's executive director Mark Ellis. "In particular, democratic debate and media comment are extremely restricted and government officials have initiated numerous successful defamation suits against both political and media critics," he said in a statement released late Tuesday in London. The rights institute also issued 18 recommendations, which it said Singapore's government should implement urgently. The group has published a 72-page report on the issue, several months after the IBA held its annual convention in Singapore. The association represents 30,000 lawyers globally. "Singapore cannot continue to claim that civil and political rights must take a back seat to economic rights, as its economic development is now of the highest order," the report said, calling human rights universal and indivisible. The IBA's rights institute "strongly encourages Singapore to engage with the international community in a more constructive manner, and to take steps to implement international standards of human rights throughout Singapore." It called for Singapore to take its place as a regional leader on human rights, democracy and rule of law, as well as in business and economic development. Singapore holds the rotating chair of the 10-member Association of Southeast Asian Nations, whose new charter calls for establishment of a regional human rights body. The IBA report said the cases of opposition politicians J.B. Jeyaretnam and Chee Soon Juan illustrate concerns over the use of defamation laws to stifle political opposition and expression. J.B. Jeyaretnam, 82, a lawyer, was disbarred when declared bankrupt in 2001 after failing to pay libel damages to members of the ruling People's Action Party (PAP), including a former prime minister. Bankrupts are not allowed to run for political office, but last year he cleared his bankruptcy, and has since announced his involvement with a new political party. Chee, secretary general of the Singapore Democratic Party, was declared bankrupt after failing to pay libel damages to Singapore's founding father Lee Kuan Yew and another former prime minister over remarks made in 2001. Chee and his party are awaiting a judge's decision on damages against them in a separate defamation case, filed by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and his father, Lee Kuan Yew. "It certainly appears that Dr Chee has been made a target by the Singapore government, and that their criticism of him has gone far beyond a reasonable standard," the IBA wrote. It said the Singapore judiciary had a good international reputation when adjudicating commercial cases that did not involve the interests of PAP members or their associates. "However, in cases involving PAP litigants or PAP interests, there are concerns about an actual or apparent lack of impartiality and/or independence," it said. The report expressed concern about "limitations on free assembly" in the city-state, and said the Law Society was not fulfilling its mandate to speak out on law reform issues. Law Society president Michael Hwang told AFP his group could not yet comment because it had only just received the IBA report. Government spokesmen were also not immediately able to react. At the IBA convention last October, Lee Kuan Yew responded to allegations that his country ranked low in matters of press freedom, saying Singaporeans were free to read whatever they wanted. He also said Singapore was built on the rule of law and did not tolerate corruption. This meant defamation action may be taken against those who impute dishonesty to government officials, in order to clear any doubts, he said.
  9. http://www.sgcarmart.com/news/review.php?AID=44&PN=1 TTS' latest project is a re-chipped Bravo T-Jet to 185hp and 272Nm - it's quite nice, but I hope they do something to the hopelessly light steering and pedals :S Gave the Golf GT quite a scare...hehe Ignore the car info listed in the article below. It is not quite ready/correct yet. The car costs $2000 more than the standard T-Jet and comes with bigger rims/original body kit. Any feedback appreciated!
  10. As above, juz for common knowledge.. Like this ad - http://www.sgcarmart.com/main/info-2IRC0Y6m-1317.html. I noob in this notion, why buy and sell in such a short term? Cos I was thinkin if they take quite a few years in loan, won't they have to fork out and sell the car? The only reason I can think are: - 1. They suddenly gng to migrate 2. They can't pay 3. And??

  12. Hi bro/sis, Got an Ariston built-in oven that's not been used for 4 years.. Recently, I use it to toast some nuts and set temp at 100 degrees. It was ok for 30 minutes and suddenly short-circuit the house.. From then on, it will short-circuit everytime I turn it on. (1) Any idea what could have caused it? (2) Any recommendation for a table-top Grill-oven (for simple use, hardly bake)? Thanks!

  17. this is an issue that's brewing in one of the forums, and I wanted to get the opinions of the elders and experienced here... say if the agent markets a car with a particular feature - lets call it "anti-theft system" - but finally delivers the car without it ? this is one of fifty-one "equipment" features highlighted in the brochure and marketed as "standard" (with a tick). now that you've noticed it, the agent (not PI): 1. emails to confirm that it is "not a standard issue" 2. rationalizes that it is not needed because the car has a built-in immobilizer (but the antitheft system includes blinking lights and movement sensors) 3. blacks out this feature on all remaining marketing brochures. What would YOU do ?

  23. Well, if you had a choice to reach your destination via expressway but requires almost twice the distance covered versus a shorter distance but potentially might be jammed and has quite a few traffic junctions. Time taken is about the same. What would you choose?

  25. Hi all, decided to post this for benefit of the community. Was given this sample to try out and I diluted it 10x according to instructions and poured the mixture into a spray bottle. The procedure was simple. 1. Wipe with damp cloth 2. Spray some diluted 121 onto my MF towel and wipe all the vinyl, plastic and leather parts of the car. I pretty much got rid of every stain I could find on the car, even some white scuff marks caused by shoes were removed somehow. Dried bubble tea on my rear door speaker mesh was also removed. The smell was very refreshing, a bit like Dettol but not that strong until like 'hospital smell'. I liked the smell so it #121 was the LSP for leather seats. For plastics and vinyl, I added an additional coat of Armourall protectant. Due to my poor photography skills, most of the pics of the car interior are blurred or over exposed Here are a few anyway. Door [inline door1.JPG] Console [inline interior1.JPG] So I tested it on the sofa in my living room. Before & after (Left is before, right after) [inline sofa.JPG] Summary: Cleaning power is strong, leaves a nice smell and the dilution factor makes this product value for $. Some words of caution. 1. You can overdilute but don't underdilute, the cleaning power is strong. 2. From my own experience, don't spray product onto vinyl/plastic/leather. Might cause uneven spots. 3. Wring your towel often, unbelievable amount of crap I took off my sofa. You can't see the dirt till you wring it out. 4. Unless your sofa needs a huge makeover, not adviseable to use this product. Takes a lot of elbow grease Cheers
