  1. Anwar demands sodomy proof By Teo Cheng Wee, Regional Correspondent KUALA LUMPUR: Opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim yesterday demanded proof of the sodomy charges against him, in a bid to stem the fallout from reports of leaked US cables. The diplomatic cables, published by two Australian dailies on Sunday, detailed senior Singaporean diplomats allegedly making critical remarks about Malaysia and other countries. Although the remarks on Malaysia touched on a wide range of topics, the local media has given more prominence to the parts that involve Datuk Seri Anwar's ongoing trial. Umno-owned Malay daily Utusan Malaysia, for instance, carried the story prominently on its front page. Its headline read: 'Singapore intelligence agency confirms sodomy act.' In response, Mr Anwar, through his personal account on micro-blogging site Twitter, demanded proof. 'I challenge them to produce evidence,' he wrote. He did not elaborate on who he meant by 'them'. The leaked cables have caused a stir in Malaysia's media, with many newspapers running the story on their front pages. The cables, released by WikiLeaks, cited Singapore's Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew allegedly telling Australian officials that Mr Anwar 'did indeed commit the acts for which he is currently indicted'. Both Australian intelligence and its Singapore counterpart also agreed it was a 'set-up job and he (Anwar) probably knew that, but walked into it anyway'. But in a statement yesterday, Mr Anwar's lawyers claimed that in their own checks, no such references were made by WikiLeaks, which released the cables exclusively to Australia's Fairfax Media group. Mr Sankara Nair said he had also contacted the Singapore High Commission to ascertain if Mr Lee and Singapore officials had indeed made the statements. Mr Nair hit out at the media reports here, saying they were 'clearly sub-judice and may constitute contempt of court'. 'It impinges on the integrity of the trial... It is most regrettable that the local media chose to rely on reports and publish matters that are unsubstantiated, based on hearsay and conjectures,' he said in a statement. Mr Anwar is fighting the charge that he sodomised former aide Saiful Bukhari Azlan in a condominium in 2008, in a lengthy court case that has played out in public for close to a year. He could be jailed for up to 20 years if found guilty. A commentary in the New Straits Times suggested that his lawyers could ask Mr Lee to testify and to show evidence to back up what he or the Singapore officials have observed. Malaysia's top leaders have refrained from commenting on the leaked cables so far. Former premier Mahathir Mohamad weighed in on the controversy yesterday, telling reporters he believed Mr Lee knew about Mr Anwar's activities. 'Yes, indeed. I think he (Mr Lee) knows, but the political parties are pretending they do not know about it,' he was quoted as saying by Bernama. But Parti Keadilan Rakyat deputy president Azmin Ali claimed Mr Lee's remarks suggested he cannot accept Mr Anwar's leadership. 'Reform policies, which are the basis of Anwar's leadership and Pakatan administration, will enable Malaysia to compete with Singapore and make Singapore irrelevant in the region economic- and democracy-wise,' Mr Azmin wrote on his blog. Hardline pro-Malay group Perkasa's president Ibrahim Ali said it was Singapore's agenda to 'demoralise' Malaysia. 'I am convinced they (Singaporeans) are really jealous of Malaysia and are not happy with Malaysia on many things,' he was reported as saying.
  2. Yeap, as the topic says. This all happened last evening 9pm. Luckily he was not showing it to me(was to another car), else I ll make sure I tail hm all the way until he pull over and ask him why he has such a bad unbringing and which school he went to. Coming back from Orchard road and after crossing dunearn road and before exiting left into PIE >> Tuas. Saw this new Subaru WRX trying to squeeze his way from lane 1 to 3 in heavy traffic, on several occasions overtaking the car immediately in front of him n immediately cutting back into same lane at close range. Obviously several other cars got pissed off n horned at him, n our friend stick out his hand n show middle finger. In the dark I couldnt see his car number properly, but I think the car is either blue or black and stupidly loud n slanted dual exos that is out of proportion. Well I hate to say, but yet another wreckless WRX. No wonder my neighbour sold his car , because his insurance premium spike up so much(he is buying a mazda 6).

  9. Some one posted this in STOMP so like to share with you guys. I strongly believe this is a staged video because everything seemed so "perfect"-like the exact camera angle, the way the women driver stopped barely a metre after driving away so that the whole scene was still within the camera range & all that. You be the judge. Still I think it is still a potential car theft scenario so decided to put it up here: http://singaporeseen.stomp.com.sg/stomp/sg..._be_stolen.html Beware! This is how your car may be stolen from right under your nose This video footage of a car theft committed right under the driver's nose will shock you, says STOMPer Alex, who received the clip in an email. The recording shows a man stealing a car right in front of its owner, without using any weapons or tools. He simply ties a heavy object to the back of the car while she is away. When she proceeds to drive off, she realises that there is something stuck to the back of her car and gets off to check. It is during this time that the thief sneaks into the car and drives off as she watches on in horror. What makes matters worse is that that the victim is unable to identify the thief because he was able to get away without ever being seen. Although the incident did not happen in Singapore, it could easily happen here as well. STOMPer Alex's email reads: "Both men and women beware. This is important information. "Some of us have seen this before but it is good to be reminded. "This could happen to anyone of us. "Watch this. He took her car, purse and house keys all without touching her. "She will not even be able to give a description of the person. "Just thankful there wasn't a child in the car. "I think I will turn the car's engine off and take the keys should this happen to me!".
  10. Source The man who played Top Gear driver The Stig has joined rival show Fifth Gear. Ben Collins, 35, will debut on the Five programme when the new series launches next week. He will appear unmasked because The Stig is a BBC trademark. 'I'm delighted to be joining the Fifth Gear team,' he says. 'And I'm looking forward to a new set of exciting challenges...apparently with and without the helmet. Former Formula Three star Ben was identified as The Stig last month after the BBC lost a High Court bid to block the publication of his forthcoming autobiography, in which he outs himself. He is the second driver to take on the role - he slipped into the hot seat vacated by Formula 1's Perry McCarthy, 49, in 2003. Top Gear bosses are expected to hire a new Stig now. ================================================================================ =================

  16. Hyundai has been very busy lately as it progresses through round two of its 24/7 product renewal program. Just days after unveiling the new Accent/Verna in Beijing, Hyundai has revealed its next generation Elantra/Avante at the Busan Motor Show in South Korea. Like the smaller Accent, the Elantra has picked up the "fluidic sculpture" styling cues of its big brother the Sonata. By virtue of its larger size, the Elantra retains more of the sleeker profile of the Sonata and doesn't look as stubby as the Accent. Like the Sonata, the new Elantra gets a direct injected inline-four, in this case a 1.6-liter based on the Gamma engine family. For the Elantra the GDI 1.6 generates 138 horsepower and 123 pound-feet of torque. In combination with a new six-speed automatic transmission, the Elantra should get about 10 percent better fuel economy. The Avante will go on sale in South Korea in the second half of this year and we'd expect to see it state-side with Elantra badges early in 2011. No word yet on whether we will get a hybrid version of the new Elantra.

  18. Do you think we can see it in Singapore tonite? ................................................................................ .......................... Meteor In the pre-dawn hours of April 22 (1:00 - 3:00 am), be sure to look up. If you do, you'll likely be treated to a spectacular celestial show in the form of the Lyrids meteor shower. Why bother to wake up at an ungodly hour to gaze at the sky? Several reasons. First, the Lyrids shower was, according to Meteor Showers Online, first observed at least 2,600 years ago, making it the oldest of any meteor shower. Secondly, viewers have a small chance "to get a glimpse of some dazzling fireball meteors from a completely different meteor swarm." Here's a brief breakdown on the shower's history, tips on where to watch, and how in the heck the meteors earned their name... How to see them It's slightly more complicated that just craning your neck skyward, but not by much. For maximum viewing, you'll want to find a dark place, away from city lights, and with an open horizon. Lie back and give your eyes several minutes to adjust to the darkness. Then, wait for the show. How to know if what you just saw was part of the shower or just some jerk with a laser pointer? SPACE.com explains that identifying a Lyrid meteor can be done by following its trail. A Lyrids meteor should have a trail that "points back to near the dazzling blue-white star Vega." You can check out a helpful sky chart here. Old, but reliable In China, there are ancient records from 687 B.C. and 15 B.C. of meteors that are "believed to be Lyrids." SPACE.com explains that the Lyrids caused a small panic in Richmond, Virginia, back in 1803. "Numerous townspeople... were roused from their beds by a fire alarm and were able to observe a very rich display between 1 and 3 o'clock." This time, we know they're coming. How'd they get their name? National Geographic has a nice write up on the meteors and their history. Vega's constellation, where the meteors appear to emanate from, is known as "Lyra." Hence, the "shooting stars" became known as "Lyrids." Simple enough, right? What can you expect to see? Whenever the Lyrids come around, they put on a slightly different show. As Anthony Cook, an astronomer for the Griffith Observatory in Los Angeles, told National Geographic, "The only way to know what the Lyrids have in store for you, is to go outside and observe them." As for the fireballs, Space.com calls their appearance a "wildcard," but it's definitely in the realm of possibility. Follow Buzz Log on Twitter.

  20. Documents that were submitted by Toyota to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in March and obtained by Automotive News reportedly show that Toyota knew of dangerous safety defects on its vehicles as early as February, 2006. The first documented issue was of a 2005 Toyota Prius that experienced floor mat interference with the accelerator. The company-supplied timeline reportedly shows that it received its first evidence of sticky gas pedals five months later, but Toyota claims that the defect was unrepeatable and couldn't be duplicated, and the automaker reportedly opted to "monitor the situation in the field." Since automakers are required to issue recalls within five days of finding a safety defect, the timeline documentation seems to validate NHTSA's recent $16.4 million fine levied against the Japanese automaker. Other documentation obtained by NHTSA and published in the Detroit Free Press includes an email from former Toyota executive Irv Miller to his superiors that shows that Toyota may have known about recall issues far earlier than the recalls were ordered. Toyota has two weeks to decide whether to fight the fine or pay up. NHTSA has been investigating the timeliness with which Toyota recalled the 8 million vehicles for floor mat and pedal sticking issues for several months.
  21. Thu, Apr 01, 2010 The Straits Times WELSH singing icon Tom Jones has cancelled his show at Resorts World Sentosa (RWS) - again. The 69-year-old singer's doctor has advised him against carrying on with the show on Thursday night as he 'could risk serious permanent damage to his vocals'. Jones stopped his show after two songs there last Friday and has been diagnosed with acute laryngitis. He has been recuperating in Singapore since then. Thursday's performance was supposed to be his make-up show.
  22. "What's the meaning of i-d-i-o-s-y-n-c-r-a-s-y? I think the person who coined this word is crazy..." came the unprompted reply before she drifted further into a rambling speech. And that, everyone, was Ris Low's maiden voyage hitting the airwaves as a newly-minted 987FM radio DJ on The Shan, Rozz [& Ris] Show. Fortunately, the bewilderment was nipped in the bud by a swift response from co-host, Shan Wee who stepped in with the denotative meaning [of idiosyncrasy] before turning to his new radio partner to ask if she has any strange habits to tell. "Yes I do. I shave my armpits every morning, otherwise it will overgrow," Ris offered matter-of-factly over an interview with xinmsn during her radio show. This, is a beauty queen fallen from grace, besieged by controversies and her bad 'ingrish-speaking' fashion yet she remains oblivious to the stream of stinging criticism; and instead of scrambling for a shovel and digging a hole to bury herself, it seems she is quietly determining her next move - like, ink a radio DJ contract on a primetime show. It certainly looks like all the bad publicity has done its part to muddy up her resume. News of the ex-beauty queen's co-hosting gig on 987FM broke last week and the station's shocking decision has since drawn flak from several netizens and radio listeners, who feel it is a publicity stunt that, if not managed well, could go terribly wrong. Posted on MediaCorp's message board, forum user 'jeat17141' wrote: "Gawd no no no no no no no. Poor Shan and Rozz; not going to tune in to them as often now. Thank you for ruining one of my favourite radio shows by turning it into a complete joke." When asked to comment on the rationale behind its decision, 987FM Senior Creative Director, Georgina Chang said: "Ris has proven that whatever she does, she gets people talking so she really draws a lot of attention and curiosity and [having her], it is just to spice up the evening drive [show]." Georgina also revealed that the team was appalled at her decision to sign on the controversial ex-beauty queen and despite a slew of negative feedback from the public, she thinks otherwise: "She's not hired for her radio talent but she has a certain reputation and she brings something else to the show. She's not hired for her diction and people are always curious about the things she says so I think it'll be highly entertaining." When asked about how she would help "to spice up the evening show", Ris replied: "I'm funny, witty and I'm real. I think people want to hear real stuff." Echoing Ris's stance is Shan, who was extremely sweet toward his rookie partner, and even provided Ris an on-the-spot diction coaching peppered with encouragement. He said: "Rozz and I have been doing a radio co-host show for about three years now [and] that's quite a long time so I'm quite happy to have a change and it's just fun." "Personally, I think that personality is the most important thing when it comes to the different factors that make up a DJ so Ris's personality is her main asset." In contrast to the easygoing nature of her regular partner, Rozz appeared a little awkward, at times, certain moments during the show when Ris candidly declared: "I'm settling down pretty well but Rozz seems to be unhappy with me". Admittedly, Rozz shared her initial hesitation about her new co-host but assured us that she is "ok now". She said: "Ris is very new. Of course she brings a different dimension to radio and obviously we are banking on her popularity but chemistry-wise, I think we'll need a little more time [because] Shan and I actually took a year and a half to get to a comfortable stage where we are now. So yes, I'm a bit apprehensive, to be honest." To which, the excited rookie partner quipped: "We'll make this work Rozz, don't worry." If Ris was feeling stress or nervous, she hid it well for she was a picture of calmness despite hosting a 'live' radio show for the first time with zilch experience. When we asked Ris on her thoughts and emotions on her first day on the job, she replied coolly: "It's good for me and it's feels like home." Well, don't write her off just yet. Take it with a bag of salt, if you must but we hope Ris knocks the socks off her listeners and you may discover yet more reasons or even more of her idiosyncrasies, to love - or hate - the controversial media darling. She was, after all, named CNNGo's 25 most influential people in Asia (2009) and that, to us, is totally boomz, you know.
  23. With the COE boomz , wonder if the show room is crowded or not this weekend? Anyone went car shopping this weekend care to share?
  24. Sat, Mar 27, 2010 Reuters LOS ANGELES - The Fox TV network on Friday stopped the clock on its action adventure series "24," ending one of its most successful dramas as ratings began to slip in its current, eighth season. The final, two-hour program will air on May 24, and in the countdown to that last show, the network will air 11 hours of uninterrupted episodes on Monday nights. "This has been the role of a lifetime, and I will never be able to fully express my appreciation to everyone who made it possible," the show's star, Kiefer Sutherland, said in a statement. "Looking ahead to the future, (executive producer) Howard Gordon and I are excited about the opportunity to create the feature film version of '24'," Sutherland added. Since the show began in 2001, Sutherland has portrayed tough-minded federal agent Jack Bauer, who has fended off assassins and terrorists and saved mankind from devastation. The fast-paced program often employed a split screen to show events happening in two places at one time, and a clock ticked off the time remaining for Bauer to complete his mission. Each one-hour episode represented one hour in Bauer's life, and every season had 24 episodes to simulate a full day. In its heyday, "24" was one of TV's most popular dramas. It earned a total 68 Emmy Awards, TV's highest honor, including best drama series in 2006. Sutherland was nominated for best actor in a drama seven times, winning once. But viewership had begun to decline. The most recent episode drew just under 9 million viewers in the United States, down from last season's average of slightly more than 13 million. Sutherland and the show's creators now hope to take the character to movie theaters in a film version.
