  9. CNA - Toyota recalling 566,000 vehicles 30 May 2006 2323 hrs (SST) http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/afp.../211156/1/.html TOKYO : Japanese auto giant Toyota Motor Corp said on Tuesday it was recalling 565,756 vehicles to replace their intermediate shafts and sliding yokes. The vehicles to be recalled were manufactured under the brands of Wish, Isis, Prius, Corolla, Corolla Runx, Corolla Fielder, Corolla Spacio, Allex and Ractis made between September 2002 and November 2005. The recall followed 31 complaints filed with Toyota between March 2004 and April this year but there has been no accident reported and attributed to the defective parts, the company said in a statement. The intermediate shaft and the sliding yoke connect the steering wheel to the gear box. The steering wheel could become uncontrollable if the connecting section is broken or dislocated under a strong force due to an unusual steering movement, Toyota said in a report. - AFP/de

  13. Which tyres best for Singapore's Tropical weather ? Performance tyres or summer tyres Performance tyres are designed for faster cars or for people who prefer to drive harder than the average consumer. They typically put performance and grip ahead of longevity by using a softer rubber compound. Tread block design is normally biased towards outright grip rather than the ability to pump water out of the way on a wet road. The extreme example of performance tyres are "slicks" used in motor racing, so-called because they have no tread at all. All-round or all-season tyres These tyres are what you'll typically find on every production car that comes out of a factory. They're designed to be a compromise between grip, performance, longevity, noise and wet-weather safety. For increased tyre life, they are made with a harder rubber compound, which sacrifices outright grip and cornering performance. For 90% of the world's drivers, this isn't an issue. The tread block design is normally a compromise between quiet running and water dispersion - the tyre should not be too noisy in normal use but should work fairly well in downpours and on wet roads. All-season tyres are neither excellent dry-weather, nor excellent wet-weather tyres. taken from http://www.chris-longhurst.com/carbi...yre_bible.html

  15. From the Newpaper today ( 23-10-02 ) Do you want to check if you have any outstanding traffic fines in Malaysia ? If so, just step up to any AXS electronic terminal - right here in Singapore. And if you do have any fines, you can pay them on the spot. So, wherre are these AXS stations ? There are 140 of them around Singapore, in petrol kiosks, shopping centres and community clubs, report the Berita Harian. The AXS stations are part of an electronic payment network that was launched last year, which allows users to pay a variety of bills. The new service is supplied by Dataline Services Pte Ltd. A Dataline spokesman said the Malaysian traffic fine payment service was introduced on Monday. He said "We see this is an opportunity as there are a lot of unpaid fines. Among the reasons people give for not settling their fines are that it is time consuming, and they do not know how to go about it. To use the service, you just have to enter the services menu at an AXS station and opt for the service MY-Fines. Payments can be made in cash or via ATM cards. Every fine payment transaction has a $ 15 service charge. And you can pay several fines in one transaction. Fines are paid in Singapore dollars based on the exchange rate stated at the AXS station.
