  1. Firstly hv to all RX300 driver, this is not against the car but merely against the attitude of the driver. I drive a small car (1k cc) but please don't say I sensitive...read on and u know what i mean. Was driving to work with my wife this morning along MaryMount road towards the city. Nowadays, traffic quite bad so cars are moving slowly bumper to bumper. I was in the second lane and stopped abt 2 feet (maybe a bit more but definitely not too close or to far, just nice). There was this black RX300 parallel beside me in the outer most lane and almost kissing the car in front of him. All cars are dead stopped now due to traffic light. Suddenly this guy switched on his left turn signal and turned his whole car at a 45degrees towards me and try to nudge into the gap between my car and the car in front of me. Initially I was pissed (who wouldn't). It's the feeling of someone trying to force you off the road. Anyway, I was just going to swallow my ego and let him go. Wife then asked me if he waved or did anything to say 'let me in please'. I looked very very hard and reply my wife 'NO...' This guy then continue to 'nudging' forward at least 4-5 times. The type of action where you move and then hard brake...move a bit then hard brake. Bear in mine at this time, all cars are stationary and only this guy doing his breakdance. At this point, my wife whom normally scold me whenever i complaint abt xSSHxxLE drivers also got pissed said don let him come in. So I moved forward very very close to him and the bumper of the car in front. I turned over to looked at the driver and got an arrogant "WHAT???" look from a 50+ man , long sleeve and gold rim glasses. I just shook my head and looked away. Fortunately for me, small car are very maneuverable and managed to stopped him from coming in when the light turned green. As due to his nudging he was almost 3/4 into my lane like a knife cutting into a loaf of bread, the MPV behind me had no choice but to let the old man come in but I noticed the MPV's displeasure as he flashed the guy many times after that. My own moral of the story is be courteous when on the road and everyone happy. Act like a hooligan and you will still not get your way and end have to swallow ego. I understand that most big car drivers have bigger ego, understandable but ego and courtesy driving are 2 different thing. OK ranting done! And sorry for the long grandfather story.. I seldom post , so when I post, I like just released from prison like that!!!
  2. Taken from Yahoo News: SINGAPORE, Jan 23 - Singapore closed its commercial airspace for almost an hour on Tuesday as fighter jets scrambled to intercept a small plane headed towards the city-state without permission, the Civil Aviation Authority said on Wednesday. The Defence Ministry said two Republic of Singapore Air Force planes took off around 6:45 p.m. local time to intercept a single-engine turboprop Cessna 208 and escort it to land at the Changi Airport. Police have started an investigation, local media reported. The closure of commercial airspace for about 50 minutes affected 23 aircraft, disrupting flights in and out of Changi Airport, a Civil Aviation Authority spokeswoman told Reuters. She said 16 incoming flights and six departing aircraft were delayed for between 15 and 40 minutes each. Another inbound aircraft was diverted to Senai Airport in neighbouring Malaysia, she said. Anybody witness this account?
  3. Hi guys, 1. I'm still trying to convince myself to invest in a Big Brake Kit aka BBK. While I don't deny the superiority of a BBK in enhancing stopping distance but the question is just how much it helps in a street car? Don't want to install something that improve slightly, add weight or cause maintenance issue later. Afterall, brake could be a live and death issue, unlike your simple and straight forward air-intake system. 2. Would BBK really make a difference in a small compact car like the Civic SI? Wouldn't the manufacturer had factored it all the necessary variance and equip its stock braking based on the defined specifications i.e 155bhp and top speed of around 210km/h? Is BBK overkill for a car that barely have 160 horses with a 1.32ton body? 3. Please advise me and if you have recommendation on any suitable upgrade please let me know too. Thank you very much. Regards,
  4. Hi all, After trying out and sat in quite a number of cars for the past few years, I came about some findings on the above topic. Would like to share with you guys what I feel and also maybe you guys can chip in your views too. The below is comments are purely on cabin spaciousness (front and rear passengers) and price, ignoring performance as well as looks. 1. Toyota Corolla Altis - Good front/rear legroom and headroom. Indeed one of the top few in the 1.4/1.5/1.6 category. A safe choice for those who are practical and prefers to stick to a proven brand. 2. Nissan Latio - Surprisingly good rear legroom. One of the best I would say. Airy cabin design makes the whole interior feel even bigger. With price lower than Altis, I think this is one of the best value one can get for the 50+k segment. 3. Mazda 3 - Looks big on the exterior but disappoint on interior space. Front passenger feels cramp due to the protruding dash. Rear legroom is also very limited. Only very marginally better than the Sunny. Thou price has come down alot, I find still not worth it if you're the family man who wants good cabin space. 4. Nissan Sunny - Decently-sized exterior, but rear legroom is the worst among the 1.6L I tried. Front passenger space is still decent thou. Cheapest among all 1.5/1.6 around but from the spaceiousness perspective, the Lancer GLX is a much better choice if you top up just a little. 5. Honda Civic FD - Smart interior design allows excellent rear passenger space. Very roomy rear legroom, thou rear headroom is a tad low. Pricey beauty and highly recommended only if you can afford the extra cash. 6. Honda City - Overall spaciousness is good with rear flat floor. Rear legroom I would say slightly loses to Altis. This is always being labelled as the Vios version in Honda's line-up, but I find it is more in the same class as Latio/Altis. However, the price tag is too high even for the basic version. 7. Toyota Vios (old) - Front passenger is still ok, but rear legroom is pretty cramp. Very comparable to Sunny. Rear headroom is the worst of the lot. Good for the couple or single. For family guy with young children, I would not recommend it. 8. Honda Airwave - Initially thought it is basically a Honda City with upward-extended boot. Front space is very similar to City, but rear legroom seems slightly better. Headroom is decent and ample. Lots of room on the rear and boot space but rather pricey also. Pity it is not a 7-seater. 9. Toyota Corolla (G9) - Feels similar to the Altis in terms of space, but somehow the rear headroom and legroom seems marginally better. Good old trusty model. 10. Mit Lancer GLX - Front and rear legroom is very good, infact I find slightly better than Altis. Headroom however is shorter but still very ample. This is definitely the best value currently, combining good roominess and price tag. 11. Toyota Yaris - Front feels like old Vios. Rear is probably slightly better than the old Vios, thou headroom is much better. Overpriced I find. The new Vios would be a more worthy buy. 12. Hyundai Verna - I own this car and honestly the rear headroom and legroom is much better than Sunny and old Vios surprisingly, esp headroom. Of coz its nowhere near the likes of Latio/Altis. Still, it is a great value if you do not mind that its a kimchi 13. Kia Rio - Very similar to the Verna in all espects, but somehow the rear headroom seems slightly lower. Quite a bit cheaper than Verna now. Highly recommended I would say, esp for value hunters looking for a sedan in the mid 40k region. 14. Hyundai Matrix - Very spacious interior. Legroom is very ample. High headroom + large window panels makes the interior impressively airy. Price has tumbled a bit also but then it is no longer popular. 15. Honda Jazz - Initially thought it is just like a City hatch. Front passenger space seems slightly tighter. Rear legroom is also not as good as City, thou quite decent. Extremely popular nowadays thou i still find its a little overpriced. 16. Mazda 2 (old) - Surprisingly the interior is more spacious than Sunny and even slightly better than Mazda 3! Maybe in terms of shoulder room its not as wide. The new version should be better I guess. A pity I did not manage to try out some other cars like Avante, Cerato. Maybe someone can help add on? :)

  7. Hi, all, I might need to get a car urgently for work. It's 5-day week job. Am hoping not to get caught in a situation where if I have to sell/scrap the car after a short period, in which case the sale price will be much lower, making my depreciation very steep. I've been thinking of getting an old car with abt a year to go before their COE expires, or just get one of those small china (cheap) new car. technology-wise, i think even the korean or chinese small new cars are much better than those very old cars with a year or two of COE left (some 8-9 yr, some 18-19 yr). I like auto gear too... and am not looking at taking loan (that's why want cheap car...) any one has any advice pls?
  8. Please vote. And comment if any. Thank you.
  9. 1. I've been seeing small puny car putting big brake kit like 4 pots or 6 pots. 2. Are these small cars really that fast that need such a big brake that you only see them in performance car? Not even some of those >2L luxury cars have it. 3. So is this a matter of overkill or an ego problem? Regards,

  21. My wife hit a Mazda 3 last Thur on AYE. The Mazda got a small dent next to the license plate. See pic. The owner wants to change the whole bumper at Mazda Motors and claim from my insurance. In the end, we settle for a private settlement at CAS to change the bumper. In addition, I agreed to compensate $50 for his taxi fare. The repair cost me $600. Do you think the owner is resonable? If claim my insurance, will my insurance allow him to change the bumper? What would you do if you encounter such driver? [inline IMAGE_028.jpg]
  22. My Chinese friends asked me why Singapore car always Small engine to carry a big body? I said: Fuel efficiency , but I know it is not true Altis: Singapore 1.6L vs China 1.8L Sunny: Singapore 1.6L vs China 2.0L Latio: Singapore 1.5L vs China 1.6L Mazda 3 Singapore 1.6L vs China 2.0L ...... etc In China it is rarely to see 1.8L below small car, but in Singapore 1.6L and below about 70% of car on the road?
  23. Suzuki Motor to recall 120,000 small cars Posted: 05 December 2006 2138 hrs Photos 1 of 1 TOKYO : Japan's Suzuki Motor Corp. has said it would recall nearly 120,000 cars across five models because of faulty airbag systems. The leading Japanese mini-vehicle maker reported the plan to recall 119,718 units of Swift, Wagon R, Solio, Cruise and MW models produced between March 2003 and September this year, to the ministry of land, infrastructure and transport.
