  1. hi, went for cars viewing today, currently driving an opc. would like to seek some valuable advises on the following: car no: SJT XXXX, normal plate Registration date: march 07 OMV: $11 798 Transfer count: 1 Actual ARF paid: $12 978 PARF rebate amount: $9733 PARF eligibility date: mar 2017 QP paid: $5200 COE rebate amount: $3417 Total rebate amount: $13 150. lets say the car is selling at $30k. am i correct to say when i delist it, i be getting the $13 150? plus the body etc.. is there any hidden cost i should factor inside this $30k? i know the transfer fee and road tax. was wonder for a 3.5 yr old car, the car plate is SJT? i'm driving a 4.5 yr old car, my current plate is SGE.. and lets say if i opt this car to be an opc instead. am i getting the 17k rebate onto the $30k? i doubt so right.. even have is the pro rated of 17k over the balance of 6.5 yrs of available usage. or the opc conversation works like this: $17k - $5.2k (QP) / 6.5yrs of usage = $1815 rebate yearly. sorry, really clueless over such figures and stuff. yet don't wish to ask those salesman and been ripped apart thanks for your valuable input
  2. I just walked around Leng Kee last week and was looking at (yes, my current fav) the renaultsport Megane. Also saw the brand new citroen DS3. Based on what the sales people told me: DS3 OMV = 22K. Since basic cost = OMV + Custom (OMV X 0.2) + GST of 7% of (OMV+Custom) + ARF (same as OMV) + $140 registration + COE... the math is like this: DS3 22K+4.4K+1.848+22K+140+32K = 82,388 <--- Basic Cost. Pre Launch Pricing was 89,999 So the AD only earns like $7,611??? Renault RS250 OMV = 29K 29K+5.8K+2,436+29K+140+42,810 = 109,186 <--- Basic Cost. Pre Launch Pricing is 145,888 So the AD earns like $36,702??? $7,611 vs $36,702 is ridiculous. Left a bad taste in my mouth... Love the car, but the pricing is really stupid. No wonder Renaults sell so "well" in Singapore. It will depreciate like a gold bar dropping into the ocean. Really a shame. But the weird thing is, their margin is only 11K on the outgoing renault sedan. So that's quite good value. If the renault megane RS were $120K and they earn 11K... I'd have a new car on the driveway before Christmas.

  7. Hi Guys, Need some advise on this, my ride is a 3 yrs old proton savvy which i just got it for nearly a month. Everything about this ride is good but the FC is just not up to its standard. Currently running 12.5k/L, compared to reviews by others, it said this car could reach 15K/L at urban least. I managed to improve my right leg power, initially was only 11K/L Apart from this, at low speed, this car do get some jerkiness at times. Overall, it's still a good ride and best, cheap and fall within my budget. I'm thinking of going JB this sat if anyone is keen. Heard from my friend, there's a shop call extra that sells a lot of car accessories and doing car mod at just fiction of the price. Said to patronize by a lot of Singaporeans, as I'm new to road, wonder if anyone is going there. I can tag along. Back to my car, i wonder if i should do anything to improve the ride better. Like having an air filter, change of spark plug. Which said to improve pick up, performance and better FC. Pls give me some valuable views, last by not least, I'm not those speedster.. I just want a better FC and pick up. And most important, a safety ride.

  10. The headline is just to grab your attention. Don't get excited yet. As a driver, I always try my best not to buang another car, let alone a cyclist or pedestrain. Even without traffic laws, I don't want to harm anybody. Having said that, some cyclists really treat their own lives cheaply. This morning I came across one such cyclist. I was driving down a straight 2 lane road with a concrete divider down the middle when I noted a cyclist cutting horizontally across the opposite lane (he was approaching my car at 90 degrees). When he got to the concrete divider, the guy hopped his bicycle over to my lane and made a 90 degree turn to go the same direction as me. While I applaud his cycling skills, he was lucky it was a quiet morning and I was cruising slowly, otherwise he would have to be rinsed off the road. Before anyone shouts FT, the guy looks like a teenaged local. While motorists have to take highway code, test eyesight, colour blindness and go for practical, anyone can ride a bicycle. Nowadays, the distinction between bicycle and motorbike is getting blurred as well. So what are the ways of teaching cyclists not to be so reckless? I think we should have a travelling exhibition visting schools to show gory accident pics of cyclists.
  11. I drive this Toyota Vios 2006. Recently, again, when i am doing some sudden steering, I can feel the car takes 0.5 second to respond to the direction of my steering wheel direction that I turn to. Last time, that's January 2010, diagnose that my struts are "dead" so I replaced with whole brand new struts. Now, i don't know what's happening. My tyres are relatively new with 70% ++ of thread wear leftover. I using Toyo DRB 195/50/15 and it is slightly lighter than most tyre in the market. This is a directional tyre. My rim is lightweight rims.

  13. It's a crowded HDB carpark with many vehicles waiting for a parking lot. Some uncle enters his French sports car then slowly preens the inside... touch here touch there .... adjust here adjust there .... and ignores the other cars eyeing his lot. Eventually after more than 5 minutes, he slowly drives off. Or how about at a public attraction, there are only 2 toilet cubicles. One is hogged by an auntie who takes her time to slowly wash her hands even though she can see a long queue waiting. Then there are people at foodcourts who have finished eating long ago but continue to chit chat at their tables while others are waiting for a seat. How to deal with this type of people? Must we fight rudeness with rudeness?
  14. Hi all, Everytime when there is a gathering of old buddies or other soical gatherings, you bounce to run into some individuals that don't like they are mid or late 40s or even 50s. They simply age much much slower than the peer. Got a shock when I met with a guy who is at his late 40s but look like late 20s or early 30s. Make me wondering whether they are vampire . While some people struggling hard to look young with those plastic surgery, they still show some tell tale signs of their age, particularly woman. Some people just have all the luck . Do you look your age? Regards,
  15. Incident happened on the 17 March around midnight when I parked my car along some shop houses along Joo Chiat area for supper. Upon returning to my car I noticed that my license plate was bend and I knew something was wrong, a car reversed into my car and drove off. If I remembered correctly it was a hyundai matrix, I purposely left so much space for that bugger to reverse and he still could hit my car. I presume that bugger is drunk since that area is well known for pubs. And this incident have to happen 3 days before my BIRTHDAY, REALLY #!%!%! lucky my bumper is original otherwise I would even be more sian. . . . To the drive who hit my car, please go and retake your TP if you can't even gauge properly when reversing. . . . . Now must repaint my bumper and knock out the dents, super heart pain because my paint job is 2 months old!@$#!@#!
  16. Well folks, just to narrate an incident involving an ugly motorist and his group of friends. (or cousins perhaps)... I was at Autobacs yesterday to change my horn. It was afternoon and pouring cats and dogs... Was smoking as this ugly incident happened. There was an old lady cleaner cleaning the racks at the carpark, near the entrance. This Colt Ralliart Turbo pulled in, splashing the puddle of water at the old lady drenching her completely. The driver didn't give 2 hoots and continued to park his car (revving it purposely, although it doesn't sound impressive honestly).. He alighted once his "supercar" is parked, giving the poor lady a sheepish and "I'm superior.. you should have gotten out of my way" look.. The worse part, his passengers (2 of them, one fat F*** and the other, a 4 eyed toad) eluded the same arrogance as they passed the old lady, murmuring something in their language which I didn't understand... They were also mimicking the old lady's weak attempts as she tried drying herself, while breaking into loud laughter amongst themselves.. I couldn't stand it so I went to the vending machine and bought a warm cup of coffee for the old lady (I mean, she's old, frail and pitiful.. my blood boiled as I thought... she could have been my mom... ). So I went about, looking for my horn.... When I finally decided on which to purchase, the sales assistance directed me to the cashier... the irritating trio was just queueing behind me... I ignored them.. As my turn approached, I paid for my buy and asked the cashier a few question (eg how long was the installation, whether they will have to remove my bumper, etc etc... ) The cashier didn't know and had to ask the mechanics. The trio became impatient and made loud remarks (again in their language) while gesturing rudely at me... Well to be honest, I didn't know what they were talking about, but it looked as if they were irritated as I was taking up their time, by asking about my own purchase...... Come on, I have every right to enquire about my purchase as I'm paying for it with my own money... Some ppl just think they're a cut above the rest - - - With no obvious reason to support this because 1) They don't look intelligent 2) They don't behave civilised 3) They don't look rich 4) They don't even look like professionals (PS: They're not foreigners by the way, when I mentioned I couldn't understand their language, its because I'm not their race... sorry, no pun intended...) Lastly and most importantly, they don;t even have a heart and basic respect for elderly folks.... Yes, I know you probably think your Colt turbo is a F1 car... but in reality, its not.... so pls don't have the ego of an F1 driver... and pls have a heart....
  17. Volvo is warning its customers of the possibility of sudden acceleration in eight different models using the five-cylinder diesel engine. Vehicles involved in the warning include the 2006-2010 S40 and V50, 2007-2009 S80, 2007-2010 C30 and C70, 2008-2009 V70 and XC70, and the 2009 XC60. A recall has not yet been issued for those vehicles. Volvo will be sending a letter warning owners of the 158,000 units sold across Europe. In an interview with CNN, Volvo Cars spokesman Per-Ake Froberg said that the issue is engine oil leaking into the combustion chamber. This works in the same way as fuel and causes an acceration burst. "This has caused the engine to maintain or even increase its speed, even though the driver has removed his foot from the gas pedal," he said. Froberg says that biodiesel mixed with conventional diesel is the primary cause, as it does not evaporate in the same manner as normal diesel fuel. This leads to extra fuel injected through the particle filter, which does not combust, and instead winds up combined with the engine oil. The oil level subsequently rises, and overflows into the combustion chamber. Thus far, Volvo claims 55 incidents of sudden acceleration have been reported to the automaker. "We have not had any accidents reported as a result of this, though. In the instances when this has occurred, the drivers have put the gear in neutral and stopped on the side of the road," Froberg said. Volvo does not yet have a solution to the problem. 19. Exploring the craters at the moon's north and south poles may be even more challenging than previously thought for future astronauts. New NASA calculations now show that solar wind streaming over the rough lunar surface may electrically charge polar craters on the moon. The moon's polar craters are of particular interest to researchers because resources, including water ice, exist at these lunar structures. The moon's orientation to the sun keeps the bottoms of polar craters in permanent shadow, allowing temperatures there to plunge below minus 400 degrees Fahrenheit (minus 240 degrees Celsius), cold enough to store volatile material like water for billions of years. "However, our research suggests that, in addition to the wicked cold, explorers and robots at the bottoms of polar lunar craters may have to contend with a complex electrical environment as well, which can affect surface chemistry, static discharge, and dust cling," said William Farrell of NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Md., the lead author of the study. These new observations contribute to our evolving understanding of the moon, said Gregory Schmidt, deputy director of the NASA Lunar Science Institute at NASA's Ames Research Center in Moffett Field, Calif. "This important work by Dr. Farrell and his team is further evidence that our view on the moon has changed dramatically in recent years," Schmidt said. "It has a dynamic and fascinating environment that we are only beginning to understand." Solar wind hits the moon Solar wind is a thin stream of electrified components of atoms
  20. SINGAPORE : Some car buyers who had ordered their vehicles just before recent jump in COE prices have ended up paying more. They had chosen the "Non-guaranteed COE", and would now have to pay an additional S$10,000. Car dealers said most buyers opted for "non-guaranteed COE" when COE prices were on a downward trend. This reversed when COE prices started climbing, with more going for "guaranteed COE", even if they had to pay S$3,000 to S$5,000 more. COE prices for small cars have nearly doubled since January. Now, COE prices for small cars stood at S$34,000, up from about S$18,000 three months ago. Some car dealers said industry players are struggling to cope with the increase. The Singapore Vehicle Traders Association (SVTA) said it is important to pick the right COE package at the time of purchase. It also warned that verbal agreements with car dealers are not enough, adding that it is best to have everything spelt out in black and white in the form of a contract. SVTA Honorary Secretary Raymond Tang said: "Some dealers say their company has never failed in bidding for a COE before, but this doesn't mean they won't fail to do so in the future." Car dealers said buyers can also ask for a refund of their deposit, but most of them have chosen to top up instead. - CNA/al source http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/sin...1051200/1/.html

  22. The fast and the modest? By Hedy Khoo HE used to stand elbow-to-elbow with other commuters on a congested bus, but now rubs shoulders with high-networth individuals who share a common passion for fast cars. Formerly a policeman who pounded the streets, Mr Derrick Tan, 38, is now a private banker who owns a host of luxury cars, including an orange Lamborghini Spyder. He belongs to the Lamborghini Club Singapore. Membership in the 180-strong club is complimentary for those who purchase a new vehicle from the dealer. So what is it like to navigate around other car owners whose fancy hot wheels cost as much as a semi-detached house? Not very much different from being in any other car club, says Mr Tan. "It's an opportunity to meet people who share the same passion and love for a particular brand of car," said Mr Tan. "It's not about getting together to show off or see who has the latest model or the most number of cars." The conversation doesn't always revolve around sleek machines and high-powered engines. "We also talk about food, lifestyles and travel," said Mr Tan,who is married with a 3-year-old daughter. Mr Tan also owns a Porsche Carrera S and a BMW M5. He bought all three cars last year. But he wasn't born rich. "I grew up in a three-room HDB flat in Whampoa Drive and used to take public transport to work," he said. As a child, he was a fan of the popular the Famous Five and Hardy Boys book series. He said the stories influenced his decision to become a policeman after he completed his diploma in engineering. New interest His experience in investigating cases in the commercial crime division sparked an interest in finance and he decided to pursue studies in banking when he was 25. On graduation, he got a job as a personal banker at a private bank. His basic salary then was $1,500. But he worked hard and was able to earn commissions of up to $9,000 a month. In his first year as a banker, he had an annual income of about $100,000. Things have obviously got even better since then. And Mr Tan remains clear on his priorities in life. "You don't have to be born rich to be successful although it does help. But I feel the focus and priority should not be these supercars as family and friends do come first," he said. And he does not think lowly of Japanese or Korean cars either. His first car was a 1-litre Toyota Starlet. "I drive a Lamborghini simply because I love and enjoy the car," said Mr Tan. A founding member of the Aston Martin Club, Mr Mike Amour, 48, also believes that supercar clubs are not for owners to show off or compare their wheels. The former CEO of an advertising multinational company is currently taking a year off to spend time with his children. "Most supercar owners don't talk about their cars in social situations. "They are quite down-to-earth," said Mr Amour, who is from Scotland, but has spent the last 20 years working and living in the US and Paris. He came to Singapore to work five years ago and is now a permanent resident here. "At events organised by the car clubs, members get to know one another better, discuss and exchange information about the engines and the performance." He bought his Aston MartinDB9in 2007 and used to hold informal gatherings with several other owners before they decided to register themselves as a club last year. Activities popular with members include drives to Malaysia and courses on advanced driving techniques. Currently, the club has 40 members. There is a one-time registration fee of $238 and an annual fee of $188. Those who think that supercar clubs are about snob appeal might be surprised by this club's attitude. While the membership is by invitation, Mr Amour said it is not limited to Aston Martin car owners. But what about those who do not own a supercar or even a car? "This club is not about being status-conscious. I don't think we will turn away someone who really likes Aston Martin cars and wants to meet like-minded people," said Mr Amour. The Ferrari Club Singapore, however, remains exclusive to owners only, with exceptions for Maserati owners who can join as associate members. Committee member Mr Nicklaus D'Cruz, 42, the chief executive of a golfing business, said it is only logical for a car club, especially those initiated by the dealership, to limit membership to owners. "It is not about snobbery. But for events and drives, clubs may need their respective dealers to provide technical support or sponsorship. "It would make more sense to promote their own brand," he explained. He also pointed out that the car manufacturers may have their own policies and conditions when it comes to allowing clubs to bear their brand name and logo. This is the case for the Ferrari Club Singapore, which has 60 membersand a yearly fee of $1,000. But exclusivity does not mean it is out of reach. Ferrari Club member Dr Grace Kong, who drives a red F430 Spyder, believes it is not an impossible dream to own a Ferrari. Her first car was a 1-litre Daihatsu Charade. "I worked hard to buy myself a Ferrari because it has always been my dream. Owning one gives me a sense of achievement," said Dr Kong, a financial services director. "Everybody should dare to dream of what they want to achieve. But dreaming is not enough. It is the execution and taking action to fulfil your dream that is important."

  24. Hi all bros and sis. I am actually trying to find out why some companies will resort to such acts. The scenario is given below: Auntie A has not been working for quite some years. Her relative asked her to pass her her NRIC card to apply for some "incentives" government is giving to senior citizen. Auntie A started to receive $5+ from company X in CPF monthly contributions and get the checks from CPF for the Workfare something scheme. Auntie A never worked for company X. What benefits does company X have to make Auntie A a bogus employee? - Evade tax? i can't really find this online. please assist.
