  2. From CNA : Poly student pleads guilty to punching SCDF paramedic Posted: 18 October 2012 1800 hrs SINGAPORE : A polytechnic student on probation for theft punched a Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) paramedic who tried to help him after he found him drunk and injured at a void deck. Abdul Rahman Bamadhaj Abas, 19, pleaded guilty on Thursday to disorderly behaviour and hurting a public servant. The court heard that he punched Mohd Chan Herman, an SCDF paramedic, at about 6.30pm on August 25 this year. Mr Mohd Chan, who was sent to attend to a case in Hindoo Road, found Abdul Rahman lying at a void deck in Veerasamy Road. Abdul Rahman's arm was bleeding and he smelled of alcohol. Mr Mohd Chan dressed Abdul Rahman's wounds and with the help of a police officer, buckled him onto a stretcher. But Abdul Rahman freed himself and punched Mr Mohd Chan in the eye. The police officer restrained Abdul Rahman's wrists with a cable tie, and helped him into an ambulance. But Abdul Rahman broke free and dashed out of the ambulance, shouting repeatedly. The court heard that Abdul Rahman was on a 15-month probation for theft committed in June at the time of his offences. In mitigation, Abdul Rahman said he was sorry and that he was too drunk to remember what he had done. "I drank to relieve stress, and didn't expect to hurt anyone. I just wanted to have fun and then go home," he said. Abdul Rahman also admitted he was addicted to alcohol and added he had sought help after his latest offences. District Judge Ng Peng Hong told Abdul Rahman that he was testing the court's limits by committing offences while on probation. "Because of your alcoholism, you caused hurt to a public servant who wanted to help you but got punched," he said. The judge, who said it was the court's responsibility to ensure such cases do not happen to other public servants, placed Abdul Rahman on remand. Abdul Rahman will be sentenced on November 9. He faces up to four years' jail and a fine for hurting a public servant. For behaving in a disorderly manner in public, he can be fined up to S$1,000. - CNA/ms Committing offence while on probation and just want to have fun ... 3. This morning when I came to work, the whole carpark was littered with 7th Month offerings that had blown from the incinerator. This I don't understand. I'm just an ignorant furriner but it seems to me that there's a couple of takes on this 1. The offerings are burnt to send them to the "otherworld". If you are supposed to burn them, but don't - isn't that like throwing away stuff? Wouldn't be equivalent to drawing money for your parents, and then flushing it down the toilet? 2. If I did something like that, my grandparents would haunt me mercilessly 3. If you don't really believe, and are just doing this for the sake of tradition - don't you care that you are making one hell of a mess all other the place? It just perplexes me. I don't get it.

  5. SINGAPORE: Howard Shaw pleaded guilty to having paid sex with an underage girl. The former Singapore Environment Council executive director was among 48 men who were earlier charged with paid sex with the 17-year-old. Shaw's lawyers had sought and obtained a hearing on Wednesday to address issues with the court regarding Shaw's charge. His lawyer Mr Harpreet Singh argued that Shaw had made an "honest and reasonable mistake." He said that there was "no pre-meditation nor intention" as the offence was committed "unwittingly". Mr Singh called for a non-custodial sentence as Shaw's case "falls at or very near, the lowest end of the culpability spectrum". Dressed in a suit, Shaw showed no emotion throughout the 45-minute hearing. He will be back in court on 30 July. - CNA/ck WTF is a honest and reasonable mistake??? u mean screwing a gal not your wife is honest and reasonable? How is it a mistake??? sory hor, i very innocent wan
  6. Why I was growing up, the only thing I remember about South Korea is they have lots of student riots Nowadays, they have well known electronic companies like Samsung and LG, their cars are on the up and also making an impact on the entertainment scene with their K-Pop and tv series. How did this come about? Was there a guiding hand behind all these or did it just come about? Taiwan is another one. Their politics seem farcical, their entertainment rather crass (imo) but they have companies like Acer, Asus and HTC.
  7. Kena rear ended yesterday, kena rear ended today...... Wish to know will mod parts such as bigger rims affect my claim against the other party?
  8. After the itchy thread, was considering getting a Jag. Tested the XJ and XF the day after and left it at that. somehow, the XF overall had an appeal to my liking. With it being a RWD now, I wanted to take the plunge... THEN....... -On the way home, driving out of the MSCP at Lucky Plaza. REalised this JAG was parked vertically across 3 cars. Wondered why(funny algne). Descending further, I realised the TOW TRUCK had come to tow the bugger away!!! SJ* place summore......I thot, ok lah.... - En route from PIE to home, at shoulder, another recovery truck was seein in the distance. I was in Lane 1. Good boy wan... ..passed it and saw an XF with hazards on, about to be towed away!!! this got me thinking.....and yes, no to JAg for now! Prayers answered!!! Call it coincidence or wat, but that was a clear enough sign for me to keep my current car, or get another, but SAME make!

  10. ...rushes to take your parking lot, would you give? Well, I didn't. Was at Vivo, and walking to my car, saw a car legitimately parked at the side waiting for my lot. Then as I was abt to enter my car, tis stream went against the traffic direction and parked himself so that he can get the lot. I locked my car, and walked up to the first car and asked him if he wanted my lot, he said yes. I then waited until the 'illegal entry' car drove off, and not without showing me the monkey face I then waited for the first car to come closer in case another cb does the same stunt and then i drove off. Sigh....driving really stressful in sg.
  11. ... "Lean-burn mode indicates the engine is running at a super lean air/fuel ratio of around 20:1 !! Normal engines would probably have detonated itself to pieces way before getting anywhere near this ratio..." Why would a lean mix lead to engine uplorry? If the engine can tahan consistently the 20:1 ratio means the engine block is very solid is it? Appreciate gurus here to explain.
  12. Do you guys remember that "someone" special whenever you listen to a particular song? Its like there's a song for each special person in my life. Right now its "Way back into love". 15. I just wonder what should we do if someone dash across the expressway and we are going at ~100KM/H? Do we try to avoid him at all cost (this means banging other cars or yourself crashing into barriers)? If not, do we brake and slow down and hope for the best (so as to minimise risk to other drivers)? I am asking this because quite sometime back, I recall seeing a worker running across the expressway to the construction site. I was like WTF..... I was quite far so I could see and slow down. I just wonder what if he dash out just like that and I am unable to react in time?

  18. As per topic, what would you do if a passenger(not driver) points middle finger at you? Yesterday morning fetching my gf to work and on my way to work, I was driving along tamp ave 5 pass the mosque towards PIE. It was a 2 lane street and I was on the left lane. Happen that a old camery was crusing alongside me at almost the same speed. I took a quick glance at the car and saw a mum fetching her son (probably aged 18-20) to who knows where. 1st glance at them I noticed the boy staring at me. I looked away and continued driving. Hahaha but i was so curious then I look towards the car again. Realised the boy still staring at me. This time he smiled at me then pretend to adjust his hair and showed the middle finger sign. WHOA knnbccb made me damn hot. I did not want to jump to conclusions so I looked away then look back again. He showed me the middle finger for the 2nd time. Anger took over me and I blasted my horn at them and wind down my window ask him what is his problem. The mum realised what had happened and sped up. I maintained my speed with their car followed them till the traffic light and cut in front of them and stopped with hazard light. Could not make them stop and they overtook me. Less then 10 sec the car reached a stand still cause of traffic. I stopped my car at the road side and on hazard lights. I opened my car door and can you believe it or not, the young punk from inside the car still can act guai lan and gave me the expression (u dare you come la) Before I could come out traffic lights turned green and the camery sped off. I gave chase cause i was kan pua dulan and hot ( all this while my gf ask me not to do anything rash if I were to confront them I will be the 1 with road rage). I went back to my car and followed them. I think the mum was kinda scared and made a sharp right turn into a car park. lost them there... I know I caused some disruptions to traffic last morning. But let me know, if it were you, what would u have done.
  19. His car eating into the next lot. Will you still park in that lot and risk anything? For me, I am those kwai lan type. If I see such people, I purpose park in that lot and refuse to park to one side to give the car enough gap to open door. Die die park right in the middle and make he go in from the passenger side....lol...... I am not afraid of dents because my metal is damm thick but do get scratches on the pain. Btw, yesterday just kana one at my place. No season label one somemore. idiot park till his front wheel is across the next lot, rear wheels on the line. I purpose park next to him in the middle of my lot. then I don't know how he open his door. I did notice a small scratch mark on my paint...lol...
  20. Dec 9, 2010 Frequent unsightly finds in the pool I HAVE been troubled by the frequent sighting of faeces in Ang Mo Kio swimming pool. I am an avid swimmer and have been patronising the pool at least twice a week. Public pools are meant for everyone. It is just plain wrong for anyone, young or old, to defecate in the pool. There is simply no excuse when the toilets are situated just next to the pool. Worse, the faeces are not found in the children's pool but the lap pool meant for adults. Such bad behaviour is intolerable. Together with other regular swimmers, I have highlighted these incidents to the lifeguards. I feel sorry for the lifeguards who have to dredge up such stuff. 23. Attacker grabbed my GF after turning off lights at Parklane toilet STOMPer Robin's girlfriend was attacked in a toilet near a cyber cafe at Parklane Shopping Mall at about 1.35am on Nov 29. The attacker reportedly turned off the toilet lights and tried to grab his girlfriend's legs after forcing open the cubicle door. The person ran off after the STOMPer's girlfriend screamed and kicked the attacker. The cyber cafe was the same one where a fight broke out between teenage gamers last month. Robin relates the incident: "I wish to share this story with the rest so that it acts as a deterrence or preventive measure for future incidents. "On Sunday night (Nov 28), I was with my girlfriend and some other friends at a LAN shop called Aquarius, the same LAN shop where some gamers were involved in a fight after a gaming session. "We were playing DOTA from 9pm onwards till about 1.35am, when the incident happened in the ladies toilet on the same floor. "At about 1.35am, my girlfriend told me she was going to the toilet, and she has been going to the toilet alone most of the time before this incident happened. "About 3 minutes later, my girlfriend called my handphone and was crying over the phone. "Sensing that something terrible must have happened, I rushed over to the toilet and saw her crying at the entrance of the female toilet, where the lights were off. "She quickly told me that someone had switched off the toilet lights and tried to grab her legs after kicking open her toilet cubicle door. "She told me she started kicking and screaming and tried her best to shut the door back by kicking furiously at the attacker. "The attacker tried to further assault her by lunging forward to grab her by her hips but was kicked away and the door was shut. The attacker then ran away. "The response was to get hold of security and to ask for video recordings of the webcam that was planted near the entrance of the toilet. "The security personnel resisted and said they would only release the footage after a police report had been made. "About 20 minutes later, the police arrived to take our statements and carried out their 'usual' investigation procedures. "After the whole process of taking down statements etc, we were advised to contact an officer who was in charge of the the investigation. "Two days later, I called up this in officer-in-charge, only to find out that he was on medical leave, and I was asked to contact him the next following day. "My best guess of the next progression of the case is that they couldn't get good footage of the culprit, and the case will therefore drag and nothing will come to light. "Some of my concerns: is Singapore really safe enough?"
  24. Think again!!! A TEACHER with the Singapore American School (SAS), who was just half a year from retirement, died in an accident along Woodlands Avenue 2 while on the way to work early yesterday. The car driven by Mr Edd Brown, 65, hit the rear of a bus, which was understood to have been on the move. He died at the scene from head and leg injuries. A police spokesman confirmed that the police received a call at 6.30am about the crash. The driver of the bus has been arrested and is assisting with police investigations. Mr Brown, a father of two grown-up sons and already a grandfather, was an information technology (IT) teacher in the primary section of the SAS. He taught children in grades 1 and 2 and also kindergarten children, besides working with teachers on incorporating IT into their teaching. One of the school's longest-serving teachers, he joined SAS in 1995. That was the year he and his wife Pat came here from Saudi Arabia, where they had been working.
