  10. I am not sure if it had been brought to your attention. My pardon if someone else has mentioned it. Reading through the Budget 2009 details, I come across this part: ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (A5) Transport Rebates and Concessions The Government will grant the following rebates and concessions on transport-related taxes and fees: * A 30% road tax rebate for goods vehicles, buses and taxis for one year. This rebate will take effect on 1 July 2009. * A 20% concession in port dues to be granted to all harbour craft (except pleasure craft for personal use) which will help local companies engaged in commercial activities within Singapore

  12. Drivers refuse to slow down at crossing for special ed kids http://singaporeseen.stomp.com.sg/singapor...nt.jsp?id=32476 From the video it seems some of the cars appear to be travelling quite fast. Maybe they should just construct strips before the crossing and a higher hump.
  13. For CNG owners and those comtemplating CNG:- I had came up with this topic for discussion and get a feeling how much we will need to pay (extra) for the Special Tax for CNG. The below is the Special Tax that Diesel Car is paying NOW. For Diesel-driven cars Special tax is payable in addition to the road tax. For a non-Euro IV diesel car, the special tax is 6 times the road tax of an equivalent petrol-driven car. For a Euro IV diesel car, the special tax is - 4 times the road tax of an equivalent petrol-driven car (licensing period up to 30 June 2008). - From 1 July 2008, the special tax is computed based on $0.625 per cc for 6-month, subjected to a minimum payment of $625 per 6-month. Engine Capacity / New 6-monthly Special Tax 1,600cc / $1,000 2,000cc / $1,250 2,500cc / $1,563 Example: If the road tax for a 1,600cc petrol-driven car is $372 for 6 months, the 6-monthly special tax for a 1,600cc Euro IV diesel car (up to 30 June 2008) is: = $372 x 4 = $1,488 The 6-monthly special tax for a 1,600cc Euro IV diesel car (from 1 July 2008) is: = 1,600cc x $0.625 = $1,000 Therefore, how much will we be paying after 31 Dec 2009? Nobody knows... it is also not publish on the lta website... We may be enjoying the benefits now... but we may have to fork out more later... WORST CASE: to remove the CNG, you need to pay back the 40% rebate and the uninstallation cost... which is close to $12000... dependent on your car... What's your view on this? Thank you. Dave
  14. First of all I must say whoever complains CNG price discount from petrol is only 10.5% obviously cannot see beyond pump prices. This is figure is based on Mandai's CNG price of $1.79/kg and RON95 at $2.00/L. CNG is measured in kg. CNG has higher MJ or BTU. Petrol is measured in L. It has lower MJ or BTU. You are buying fuel. Fuel is energy, you are buying energy. Energy is measured in MJ or BTU. You are buying MJ or BTU not L or kg. So with this in mind, the conversion factor is this: L of petrol x 0.669 = kg of CNG. So if CNG is as expensive as petrol it will be SGD2.00/0.669kg = SGD2.98/kg! If you work the other way, the conversion factor is this: kg of CNG x 1.469 = L of petrol So the real price of CNG in petrol terms is (using Mandai) SGD1.79/1.469L = SGD1.21/L. If you use Jln Buroh, it is SGD1.02/L This is a 50% discount if you get from Jln Buroh. A 40.5% discount from petrol prices if you get it from Mandai. If you take JB CNG if you mad enough and I'm including this to show you the great discount JB has on CNG. CNG in JB costs MYR0.68/kg. In petrol terms it will be MYR0.46/L convert to SGD, it is SGD0.19/L of petrol! Of course this is nothing if you don't count the fuel economy of your car. All the SGI kits installed will give slightly better economy than in petrol but not all. Here in this calculation, we assume a no win, no lose situation. Assume the car brings 12km/L. So that will be 8.3L/100km. With CNG, this is 5.51kg/100km. So with local RON95, economy is SGD16.6/100km With Mandai CNG, economy is SGD10.04/100km With Jln Buroh CNG, economy is SGD8.46/100km With JB CNG, economy is SGD1.57/100km Special Tax? This one cannot be determined by simple arithmetics. This one I leave to you to decide whether the risk is worth it. Next, don't anyhow become hero and champion CNG prices and all that on our local newspaper forums. You are effectively buying it at SGD1.21/L in petrol terms if you choose to get from Mandai. They will fark you in the face. Just that they have not fire back and humiliate you yet. Addendum: Actual conversion factor is 1.469 instead of 1.496.

  17. Just now at 6.40pm, I am smoking outside while warming up my car. Then comes a mata chia driving up the multi storey and park beside a car. One of them came out and start the engine of his car and drove off with his colleague 'excorting him'. As he drove off, I noticed his was a OPC. I don't believe that he tear a OPC coupon for that. As I drove off the carpark, I noticed that he had parked his car outside the NPP next to the multi-storey carpark.
  18. ST 29/5/2008 French woman charged with killer-litter A FRENCH national was charged in a magistrate's court on Thursday with a killer-litter offence. Sandrine Bionda Courbet, 39, a bank executive, is said to have thrown three knives and a wooden knife holder from the kitchen window of her 15th-floor flat at Ridgwood Close on Jan 27. She initially wanted to plead guilty but when told by the judge that the offence normally carried a jail term, she changed her mind. The judge had asked if she wanted to engage a lawyer. She asked for an adjournment to make representations. She is released on bail of $5,000. Her passport was impounded. She will be back in court on June 26. If convicted of the rash act, she faces a jail term of up to three months or a fine of $250 or both.
  19. April 9, 2008 Dementia patients to get ID cards Special card with contact details could help lost patients return to their families By Theresa Tan DEMENTIA patients will soon be issued with special identity cards so members of the public will be able to contact their families if these individuals are found lost or wandering. The card, to be issued through the Alzheimer's Disease Association here, will debut in the second half of the year. It will carry the patient's name, language spoken and his or her family's contact numbers. Other critical information, such as drug allergies, will also be included. Dementia is a degenerative brain condition marked by memory lapses. As the disease worsens, patients lose the ability to care for themselves. They may require help even in daily routines such as eating and going to the toilet. Alzheimer's disease is the most common form of dementia. About 20,000 people are afflicted with dementia here; by 2020, the number is expected to rise to 50,000. National Council of Social Service chief executive Ang Bee Lian said it is common for dementia patients to wander from their homes and become lost. Asked how useful the card will be if dementia patients left home without it, she said idea is not foolproof but can be useful if patients are made to pin or hang the card on a lanyard around their neck before outings. Sales executive Eleen Ng, 40, is familiar with the anxiety of having a loved one go missing. Her 70-year-old mother, who has dementia, has lost her way 'numerous times' and even ended up at a police station after she was found wandering the streets. 'I used to tear my hair out and panic each time mum went missing. She doesn't even know how to answer her mobile phone when it rings,' said MadamNg, adding that her mother is no longer allowed to go out on her own. The identity card is not the only such document here. More than 7,000 similar ones have been issued to the disabled, such as the intellectually disabled, by various charities here, MsAng noted. http://www.straitstimes.com/Free/Story/STIStory_225262.html We do not tag criminals like rapists or even pervert stealing undies for the safety of the public some1 obviously felt it is good we tag dementia patient. IMO this is a violation of human rights, because it will not end there once it started. How would you feel if some1 you know is tagged a HIV patient like a dog tag? Are we gg but back to medieval days?
  20. I dont know if I heard it wrongly or not... This morning on the radio, there is a radio advertisement talking about Ferrari and Shell's working partner for 60 years and winning Bahrain's F1. This weekend, Shell's V-power is going to be priced at 98's price.... anyone can confirm ?
  21. I was completely blown away by this one. This is Sesame Street's parody of L&O: Special Victims Unit. Brilliant! Absolutely Brilliant! I heard Dick Wolf likes it a lot and encourages Sesame Street to go through with all the letters of the alphabet. The muppets look just like the actual series actors. They use the actors real names. Meloni and Mariska.
  22. http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20080207/od_nm/israel_pilots_dc Thu Feb 7, 2:04 PM ET JERUSALEM (Reuters) - A drug used to treat impotence could help Israeli fighter pilots operate at high altitude, the Israeli military's official magazine reported in its latest issue. It said a retired general plans to present to the air force the results of a study he conducted on Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania where he found that tadalafil, the active ingredient in Cialis tablets, improved breathing in a thin atmosphere. "The study's findings justify the continuation of tests with drugs of this type in low oxygen environments," an unnamed air force officer told Bamahaneh, the military's weekly magazine. An army spokeswoman said that there were no plans to use any such drug and a statement said the phenomenon of chronic oxygen starvation experienced by mountaineers and the immediate oxygen starvation which pilots suffer at high altitude are different. "(Because of the different circumstances) there is no significance for medical treatment of any drug for pilots in the Israel Air Force ... and it has no intention of using any form of drug," the statement read. ------
