  1. My colleague just told me he got a $20 fine for driving at 65km/h at a 60km/h road. so it debunked the hearsay that cars speeding within 10km/h of the max road speed wont get fine........ no demerit points deducted...
  2. Was in a cab just now and noticed the driver braked whenever he saw spherical/circular cameras mounted on overhead lampposts. Is this a type of speed camera? I know I sped past some a couple of days ago. Is this a type of speed camera? According to the cab driver, he says it is.

  5. Hi guys, I only realised ths 2-3 days that my steering gives off some squeaking sound, maybe like rubber rubbing against rubber or something like that, when I move slowly in a car park. Most obvious will be when making turns because I'll be turning it more. Anyone knows what is the problem? Thanks in advance.
  6. Cordon >> ASIAONE / MOTORING / NEWS / STORY Thursday, Nov 03, 2011 AsiaOne Leave no speeding car unbooked If you want to speed, there is an unspoken rule of thumb: go as fast as the quickest car in front of you. The reason? Most photo radar systems can only track one violator at a time and as such, anecdotally, odds are that the radar will only pick up the violator in front of you. That will change if the latest radar sensor, Cordon, from Peak Gain Systems, a traffic enforcement solutions company, is brought into Singapore. Cordon's can simultaneously track the speed of vehicles in up to four lanes using a single sensor. According to Engadget, which first reported on this device, it can follow up to 32 vehicles. In the video below, vehicles that are tagged in red blocks are identified as way past the speed limit while those in yellow are within an acceptable range above the limit. Those in green are safe from tickets, according to an Engadget report. The Cordon system can create a pair of high-resolution images for each violation, ensuring that you won't get away. There will be a wide-angle image of multiple targets with the violator clearly identified and a close-up of each violator, with a clearly visible licence plate, the company's website says. The bad news doesn't end there for traffic offenders. The Cordon system can also automatically detect bus lane violations with 'advanced licence plate recognition system'. The speed sensor is small and light enough to be mounted at a height of five to eight metres on any fixed roadside object, making it inconspicuous. It can also immediately transmit captured data of traffic violations back to the office for processing. Integrated infra-red spotlights means the sensor can also work at night, when roads are emptier and speeding more likely. What do you think? Will this speedcam cut down on the number of speeding violations in Singapore? [email protected]
  7. Thought of finding out what are the highest speed one had actually driven for information purposes and comparision. Rather than depending on the specs, think it is more real/interesting to hear from members what top speed they have done so far. Skoda Fabia (car) 178 km/hr (Speed) N-S highway (where) 7-10-03 (when) --------------------------
  8. My brake pads / rotors are in working condition and are not worn but at very low speed braking (below 10 kmh turning into side road, for example) sometimes it makes mild screeching sounds. Incidentally, cold morning also same sounds when i move the car out from the carpark. Any bro experience this? Workshop has checked it and said nothing wrong with the brakes.
  9. What do you think? We install chaff in our cars to prevent speed cams from capturing.....

  11. taxis are getting more powerful nowadays. the old toyota crowns and nissan cedric are slowing being replaced by the Sonata. seen too many of these sonatas driving like nobody business and without a care for other road users. would it be a good idea to install speed limiters in taxis? maybe their top speed can be capped at 100km/h?

    DSG 6 Speed

Hi All I am considering to get Skoda Superb 2.0T - 6 Speed DSG and i wonder if this car's tranny is reliable. Have heard from the some forumers that the 7 Speed DSG is very problematic... So far, has anyone had problems with 6 Speed DSG ? Thanks...
  14. What your view on this? Cause for myself, I realise that when I am traveling on KPE, I will be very focused on my speedometer to ensure I do not exceed 70KM/H. Due to this, I spend less time looking at the road. Then I also experience several times where the vehicle in front of me brake very hard when approaching speed camera (ed speed 90 but vehicle brake till 80). I assume its to prevent himself from overshooting the 90 limit. Due to this, I just wonder whats the real purpose of speed cameras? Do they actually make the road safer or create accidents instead?
  15. Dear bro & sis, Juz wondering the speed camera along ECP after Rochor exit towards Changi izzit working?? I still see people speeding down the slope like nothing eh??
  16. For the past several months my Picinc (w/Michelin PP2 215/55/16) experienced side slip whenever the car went thru an uneven road patch at low speed. My front tyres worn pretty fast with wear on the outside and was advised to change (done only about 45k, did regular tyre rotation, alignemt seem OK & light footed). Passenger on the driver side complained increased in perceived giddyness and car seem to bounce more thru humps. Went to Autobacs and they recommend changing the front suspension for about S$1000 w/OEM toyota parts. Went to a regular service centre in AMK P2 and he too recommend a suspension change. Today went down to Toyota Ubi for a non-booking check and the inhouse service manager was kind enough to ask his car tester to drive me around for a road evaulation. He played with the Steering Hard and we can hear funny noise and observed loose play on the steering. He quite confident that the Steering Axles joint had worn and recommend a complete replacement. The front suspension got to be changed as well and the 4 tyres as well follow with a 4-wheels alignment. So today I went to replace my 4 tyres at Beng Seng. I wanted my PP2 but it had changed to PP3 @ S$260/pc (Made in Thailand). I checked the GR90 and the lady boss highly recommended it and I changed to the GR90 for S$215/pc (made on Japan, price will increase again) I'm supposed to bring down my car to Toyota for the rest of the replacement tomorrow and will cost me around S$5k (w/some discount) Any comment on the pricing ? Thanks.
  17. Chanced upon this clip. A classic...especially the last part "...can't even see the rear headlamps!" LOL
  18. Hi guys, urgent question. Driving 2005 STi which I bought last dec. So far no mechanical issues until tonight. Mostly stock handling with what seems like stock suspension and only upgraded front discs to slotted. When I was exiting PIE (Tuas) to Toh guan rd, the 90 degree left handed sweeper, midway through the corner, I felt the steering wheel very hard to turn. Definitely abnormal. I applied more force and managed to negotiate the turn safely. Lucky I had both hands on the wheel. In the dry I have taken the bend at 20km/h more than what I did just now, with no issues besides some tire chirping. Definitely seems like something is wrong and not that I cornered too fast. The only other time i felt something wrong was earlier today when I did a slower speed corner and felt a tugging feeling on the wheel but it was just a split second so i thought maybe it was the tire. The feeling can be described almost like someone grabbing my wheel and pulling it to the opposite direction. Would be spooky if there were no such things as mechanical issues. Low speed turning of steering wheel is fine, normal effort and not too stiff. No issues or funny noises when parking. Anyone faced similar issues? or can share with me possible diagnosis and cost to rectify? Thanks in advance...
  19. Just been to sentosa and saw quite a few speed cams around. When did they install? Speed limit either is 40/50.
  20. Think twice before you speed By S Ramesh | Posted: 07 June 2011 0956 hrs SINGAPORE: The Police have started trials of a new mobile automated vehicle screening system. The system is used to capture vehicle registration plates using special digital cameras for identifying vehicles of interest. These include vehicles reported stolen or involved in criminal activities. The cameras are mounted on top of police vehicles and is able to read vehicle registration plates while the police vehicle is stationary during road blocks or on the move during patrols. Police say the new system cuts down manual recording processes and improves productivity. The new system was exhibited at the Police workplan seminar on Tuesday. - CNA/ck http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/sin...1133665/1/.html
  21. Hi all.., anyone know for sure what status for kpe speed limit? real? random? just warning? or ... just my opinion: 1. if real 70km. lta/ gov for sure need more then 2 bank account(to collect fine from the speeding) like i never miss see car use flog lamp on, i never miss been overtake in kpe even my odometer already 70km. and i'm sure not only 5-6 car overtake me in 70km, at least 10-15 car. imagine, how many car everyday use kpe? 2. if random. hm... is the random set by time? maybe: 7-10am on the speed camera 10-12am off 12-2pm on etc... or how... 3. just warning ticket? got few friend get ticket of speeding on kpe, but just warning. if it is warning, it is really make sense, why i never miss been overtake in kpe. any other opinion :)
  22. How many speed cam does KPE have? Where're is/are they located? I entered frm Punggol exit Nicoll. I only noticed the speed cam signs before the Nicoll exit. But quite a bit before that I thought I might have gotten a forced contribution to the millinaire politicians' bonus. Saw a quick flash. It's not like red-light cam that I saw with duble flashing though. What are the chances that I'm safe? I glanced at my speedo and saw 90 after the flash and might be +-2kmh from there bah. Was maintaining distance with car in front (about 5-7 car lenghts?) Sibeh sian.
  23. I DIY a ram air intake by remove my fog lamp and place an air duct there. Then build a box to house and open pod filter and and channel the air to the throttle body using a flexible 3" tube. It does help in improving my top speed by around 7KM/H (not bad if you consider my car is just 1.6L and just 110HP). Its not a big difference but its still noticeable and my throttle response has also improve. I guess the stock intake (despite have a K&N filter) is still too restrictive and too many bends which affects air flow speed. I don't know if the FC will change but I will monitor it.
  24. I drive there everyday. did not notice where are the speed cameras located. anyone knows?
