  2. The king of compact luxury sedan is set to be reborn in about 2 years' time. Expect exceptional aerodynamics with a Cd figure of around 0.24. Turbocharged units will be in full circulation at BMW by the time the new 3 Series hits the streets. We may see a 1.5L three-cylinder petrol turbo engine delivering about 150hp (112kW) while their diesel counterparts are likely to offer around 300Nm of torque. The 8-speed automatic gearbox that makes its debut in the 7 Series will find its way into the upcoming 3 series. My personal opinion is that BMW is making a wise move to downsize the engine capacity and employing turbocharging technology to compensate for lower capacity. This is going to be an industrial trend. Just look at the success story of VW's 1.4 TSI units that have won numerous awards over the past couple of years. Ford has just introduced their 1.6L Ecoboost turbo powerplants and Hyundai group is set to release their 1.6L Turbo engines in 2010 too. Such a move by automakers benefit a market like Singapore whereby road tax are tied to engine size. In addition, a lower capacity engine usually implies better fuel efficiency. From the video, the outline of the new 3 series appeared rather conservative. I hope that it will not end up looking like a baby 5 series and has it's unique styling clues. This is vital in order to take on it's good looking competitors such as the Alfa 159, Audi A4 and Lexus IS250.
  3. Spies in Maranello, Italy, captured a few shots of a Ferrari 599 GTO prototype while undergoing testing. The street legal version of the 599XX was spotted with a new front bumper, grille, and wheels. Also noticeable is the new roof, potentially made from carbon fiber, and a large new rear diffuser flanked on each side by two exhaust pipes. New seating was also spotted. Reports suggest that the 599 GTO comes with a 700 PS (515 kW / 690 bhp) 6.0-liter V12 engine with a 9,000 rpm redline. At 3.2 seconds, speculation suggests the car will spring to 100 km/h a half-second quicker than the 599 GTB. Top speed could be around 350 km/h (217 mph). Pricing of the Ferrari 599 GTO is expected to be around

  6. High-Performance Mitsubishi Lancer Spied Ralliart ? The 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer is already on sale in three different models (DE, ES, and GTS), all powered by a 2.0 liter inline 4-cylinder engine. Now these latest photos taken in Death Valley capture a high-performance prototype being tested in hot weather conditions. One look at the huge dual exhaust pipes makes it clear that this is not the standard 2-liter engine. A look at the front also shows an intercooler mounted just behind the lower grille opening. Without question, this thing is turbocharged. But what is it, exactly? Mitsubishi is famous for its high-performance Lancer Evo, but the Evo always has a huge rear spoiler and bulging fender flares. 10. BMW was set to reveal to the world its 1 Series at the Geneva Motor Show in early March, but we hear that debut has been pushed back to the Paris show in October. Regardless of its official unveiling, we have the first-ever on-road look at the little Bimmer, courtesy of our intrepid spy shooter who spotted this 1 Series undergoing winter tests in Sweden. The car is slated for launch late this year with the five-door, shown here, first out of the blocks. A three-door will follow six months after that. An interesting feature seen in these pictures is the small rear hatch, making it look sportier than the Volkswagen Golf, one of its main competitors. Power in Europe includes a variety of gas and diesel engines; there are no announcements yet on U.S. specs. Expect prices to be about 20 percent less than a 3 Series, putting it in the $25,000 neighborhood. Can a 2 Series be far behind?

  12. URL - http://www.motioncars.com/autobuzz/article...w_5-series.html Spied! BMW's Fifth Generation 5-series By Ulysses Ang After boasting about the advantages of a normally aspirated, high-revving engine, BMW seems to be giving into what its competitors have been doing: relying on forced air. The fifth-generation 5-series is expected to make a debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March with a 380 bhp twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-6. Other engines that will complete the 5-series' line-up include a new 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4. Of course, the usual normally aspirated inline-6s in 2.2-liter, 2.5-liter and 3.0-liter displacements will still be made available. A few months into sales, the 7-series' 3.6-liter and 4.5-liter V8s will be made available. Underneath, the 5-series will use a lightweight hybrid construction found in the Z8 and the Rolls-Royce Phantom. The new suspension system will use an aluminum spaceframe with extensive use of aluminum bits to keep the weight below the 2002 model. The new 5-series is not expected to carry the entire safety and comfort features of the current 7-series, however, it is rumored to carry a steering system that corrects for high-speed cross winds and heavy braking; an automatic damping suspension system; dynamic stability controls and a less complex iDrive system. From these photos, the new BMW 5-series looks like a shrunken 7-series. Though the looks maybe questionable, the performance certainly isn't with new turbocharged engines available for the first time.
  13. Due in the States next summer as a 2004 model, the fifth-generation 5 Series will likely bow at the Geneva motor show in March with a new 380-hp, twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder. Other engines slated for the 5 include a turbo 2.0-liter inline four and naturally aspirated versions of BMW
