  2. No excuse for the Nando behaviour but I wonder if some unmentioned drama also took place to agitate the staff. Actress walks out on restaurant, wait staff applauds AsiaOne Wed, Jun 01, 2011 AN ACTRESS and her boyfriend walked out on a casual dining restaurant in a huff, appalled at its poor service and a relatively sky-high charge for hot water. To make matters worse, her actions generated claps and cheers from the restaurant's service staff, causing the actress to post her aggrieved account on microblogging site Twitter. The incident, which started over a glass of hot water, occurred on Monday night when actress Joanne Peh and her American boyfriend, Bobby Tonelli visited Nando's at Tanglin Mall for dinner. According to Peh, when she asked for a glass of hot water, the waiter replied that the restaurant does not serve it. However later on, the restaurant's manager said they can serve her the hot water but she will be charged $3.90 for it. A bewildered Peh said on Twitter, "They charge hot water at the price of tea ($3.90) when bottled water costs $1.80? This is not right." She even pointed out the difference to the manager, she said. Peh and her boyfriend then placed their orders but when it was still not "processed" 10 minutes later, the couple decided to walk out. Peh said on Twitter, "They clapped when we walked out. In all honesty we'd have dropped it as another unfortunate experience if not for the fact that they applauded on our way out." "The worst thing is the manager clapped too," she added. For Peh, this was the first time she walked out of a restaurant fuming. "There really is a first for everything," she tweeted. "Nando's Tanglin Mall really knows how to ruin customer service. There is no way I'm going back there again." The restaurant later replied to Peh via Twitter, "We do appreciate and value all our guests' feedback. Your tweets highlighted some issues which we are currently looking into." But Peh retorted, "Clearly you're not looking into it promptly enough because your manager claimed that many customers have made the same complaints." America actor Tonelli also chipped in, "I think some training is needed at the Tanglin location. When customers are going to spend $50++ and get refused hot water, that's bad." A Nando's spokesman told Chinese evening daily Wanbao that the restaurant has already apologised to Peh for the incident and that they are currently looking into it. Where necessary, action would also be taken. Nando's Singapore manager Cai Huifen told the daily that the restaurant does not serve water but customers can buy bottled water at $1.80 each or a cup of hot tea at $3.90. The manager said the staff failed to present this point clearly to Peh. This therefore caused Peh to have the impression that their restaurant charges $3.90 for hot water, which was not the case, Ms Cai said. As for the the applause, Ms Cai told Wanbao that they would never allow service staff to present this kind of service attitude towards customers. The manager said that where necessary, staff will face disciplinary action. Ms Cai added that Nando's appreciates and values their guests' feedback and would improve on their food quality and service level

  6. SLA staff member charged with fraud of $11.8m Posted: 28 September 2010 1223 hrs Photos 1 of 1 SINGAPORE: A senior staff member of the Singapore Land Authority (SLA) is facing 249 charges of cheating the Authority $11.8 million. 40-year-old Koh Seah Wee was charged on June 25 and is alleged to have conspired with two others, Lim Chai Meng and Ho Yen Teck to cheat the Authority. He did so by awarding network maintenance contracts to various companies. Koh was a deputy director with SLA's Technology and Infrastructure Department. His level of approval allowed payments to be made to these shell companies and no work was done to fulfil the contracts. According to some charge sheets, payments were made in amounts ranging from $25,000 to $60,000. Koh also faced several charges of using the ill-gotten gains of his cheating scheme to buy cars and properties. The charges spelt out that Koh had used the money to pay for a Lamborghini, Mercedes Benz cars, acquire property at Axis@Siglap along East Coast Terrace, and purchase various unit trusts. Koh is being defended by Lawyer Ravinderpal Singh and his case will be mentioned again on October 19. Koh has been remanded and his bail stands at $1.5 million.
  7. A*STAR staff condemns dead rider in ECP accident for delay READERS are outraged by a man who condemned a rider killed in an ECP accident for causing a 45-minute delay and incurring $3 ERP charge. The man claims to be an A*STAR employee in his Facebook profile. One reader, Timothy wrote: "This guy, an A*STAR employee as stated in his Facebook profile, made light of the death of a motorcyclist along East Coast Parkway (ECP) by posting insensitive comments on his Facebook wall. "He claims that the death of the rider caused him to be delayed by 45 minutes and incurred $3 in ERP charges. "With this as a justification, he condemns the rider to hell -- 'he's probably going to hell because of that,' wrote the user in his Facebook status bar." Timothy added that the guy did not even have a sense of remorse after being chided by his friends. "In response to chiding from his friends, the A-Star employee remained self-righteous. 'I can phrase it even more terribly...speeding is the pathway to hell. They need to learn'" he writes. "The Facebook user goes on to joke about the rider's death by saying, 'the deceased has been granted a long permanent break,' in response to comment asking him to 'give (the deceased) a break.' "The local riding community at Singapore Bikes Forums is incensed, with a flurry of enraged responses to the Facebook user's statements, which have been uploaded to the site since 11.46pm yesterday. In another e-mail, reader Ronald wrote: "This guy made such an uncalled comment on a rider who had an accident and passed away just because of $3 and 45 minutes of his insignificant life. "It is insulting to the deceased."

  9. Would like to share a crazy incident that happened to me today. I parked my car behind Singapore Casket along Tyrwhitt Road to settle some details of a loved one that passed away recently. When I was back, I found to my shock that my car was shifted(apparently towed) to the other side of the road, with the side mirror broken off! I noticed there were a few car workshops along the road and went to ask who shifted my car and damaged it. No one admitted so I call mata come. When the mata came, one guy from the nearby shop suddenly ran towards me, shouting and accusing me of parking and blocking his customer vehicle so he towed my car and broke my side mirror, all these in front of the mata. He even admitted that he did it on purpose! Worst still he kept scolding my sis and her bf who were questioning why he needed to break the side mirror. In the end we didnt want to argue with him and just left with his particulars. Will be making a police report tomorrow. Based on a first cut assessment, the side mirror needs to be replaced, glass window scratched, door some scratches. Not sure if there is damage to my undercarriage/gearbox/brakes when it was towed with brakes on. Bros, what would you guys do? Would you pursue a court case against him? My car is less than 2 mths old.

  12. Think this was posted a while back, but is still worth a laugh. A man in a hot air balloon realized he was lost. He reduced altitude and spotted a woman below. He descended a bit more and shouted, 'Excuse me, can you help me? I promised a friend I would meet him an hour ago, but I don't know where I am.' The woman below replied, 'You're in a hot air balloon hovering approximately 30 feet above the ground. You're between 40 and 41 degrees north latitude and between 59 and 60 degrees west longitude.' 'You must be in Information Technology,' said the balloonist. 'I am,' replied the woman, 'How did you know?' 'Well,' answered the balloonist, everything you told me is technically correct, but I've no idea what to make of your information and the fact is I'm still lost. Frankly, you've not been much help at all. If anything, you've delayed my trip.' The woman below responded, 'You must be in Management.' 'I am,' replied the balloonist, 'but how did you know?' 'Well,' said the woman, 'you don't know where you are or where you're going. You have risen to where you are, due to a large quantity of hot air. You made a promise, which you've no idea how to keep, and you expect people beneath you to solve your problems. The fact is you are in exactly the same position you were in before we met, but now, somehow, it's my fault.'

  15. BEIJING (AFP) - - Staff at a bank in China's quake zone used relief funds to buy themselves US brand runners, the country's audit office said Friday after probing for instances of aid money going astray. A branch of ICBC, the biggest bank in China, in quake-hit Mianyang city bought 56 pairs of Nike runners for its workers, the audit office said in a statement posted on its website. The branch used 28,500 yuan (4,100 dollars) to buy the shoes at the end of May, and faked the receipts to say it had bought raincoats, rubber boots and umbrellas, the report said. "After the audit investigation revealed this problem, the bank returned the 'special earthquake funds' that were inappropriately used," the report said. Another investigation by the audit office revealed that in some areas, text messages about the quake were sent en masse, and were suspected of cheating mobile phone users into donating money into bank accounts, the report said. "According to our investigation, there are some people who already put earthquake donations into the fundraising accounts," the report said. Those accounts had been frozen, according to the audit office, which did not reveal how much money was involved. Misappropriation of funds allocated to help in the wake of the 8.0-magnitude earthquake -- which has killed nearly 70,000 and left another 17,500 missing -- is of huge concern in a country where graft is endemic. Corruption is rampant both in government ranks and throughout society, as the country ploughs through its development boom without a free press or an independent judiciary. President Hu Jintao has repeatedly warned that corruption is one of the biggest threats to the legitimacy of the ruling Communist Party. More than six billion dollars in aid from home and abroad has been donated for quake relief and the government has insisted it is doing all it can to ensure the money is spent in the correct manner. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- New slogan for runner "U can't resist owning it". Back to topics, kudos for reporting and ensuring corruptions are minimised.
  16. Jan 23, 2008 Unbecoming behaviour of NTUC Income staff at Sengkang MRT station NTUC Income has set up a permanent booth at the Sengkang MRT station. What started initially as polite soliciting by the NTUC Income agents is now creating a nuisance. The behaviour of the agents is abhorrent. Their antics are amusing. The loud talk, laughter and joking all show a lack of seriousness in their job. They don't walk, they just jump and hop and place themselves in front of you. They block your way by extending their hands in both directions. When you try to bow down to wriggle out, they lower their hand. Even when the person says 'no', the agents keep walking along with him/her for quite a long distance. Thereafter they laugh out loud and signal back to their 'base station'. This kind of ridiculing the public is quite reprehensible. When a single office-going woman is spotted, the agents get excited and harass her no end. I have seen many people expressing disappointment after being accosted by these agents. To avoid the unwanted nuisance, commuters now take a roundabout route to the MRT. I would appreciate it if the NTUC Income management can look into this and restore the prestige of the profession. N. Nageswaran http://www.straitstimes.com/ST%2BForum/Onl...ory_198970.html chey....
