  1. Dear bros, Have any of you experienced the situation whereby your engine compartment is overly hot and your engine cannot start smoothly? (i.e. engine starts and revs to 1k before dropping below 1k, hanging there for a second or two, before going back to 1k again?) Temperature gauge shows that temperature is at the halfway mark, so most probably not overheating.. Please advise, thank you!
  2. Good day to all. With regards to the other thread that I started, I would like to make it easier for the mods to hold charity events. I think if we start pledging donations in cash or kind, it will be easier for the mods here to gauge the feasibility. Please put your names down on whatever you can contribute. It doensn't matter if you cannot spare the time, just contribute some money will be equally good. But please follow up with your pledge unless there is really valid reason. My condition for the money is to be dispersed is very simple: -must be new initiative by mods or people sanctioned by mods in mcf There is no menaing to contribute to other causes as I believe all of us have been doing this OK, let us put our energy to some action to get some results. 3. Hi all, I'm thinking of getting a 2 way car-alarm for my car because i tend to be forgetful whether i lock my car or not and also for an added assurance. Remote start would be a nice add-on for it. Currently, I'm looking at: 1) Pageguard PG-8000s 2) Steelmate 898G 3) Carscop CCFM9-RSV1 4) SPY LT118 (F8S) I've been reading reviews on forums but getting many mixed opinions within these 4 alarms. And now I am confused which one to get. My requirements are: A) Remote battery should be long lasting B) Range should be reasonable (not sure what range is reasonable to ask for though) C) Remote reflect the state of lock in car (display lock/unlock) D) Remote start I'm sure some of you have installed one of these in your cars . Do you mind giving me a quick unbiased opinion of which one should I select? Would like to install it this weekend. Thanks all in advance!!

  5. What a way to start the CNY... From STOMP: http://singaporeseen.stomp.com.sg/stomp/sg...db_carpark.html Posted on 22 Jan 2012 Vehicle crashes into parked car at HDB carpark A vehicle crashed into a parked car at Kim Tian place today (Jan 22). The impact was so great that 2 other cars were also affected. STOMPer Chee Kin wrote: "A car crashed into a parked car at Block 120b Kim Tian Place at about 2pm today. 6. I'm getting this quite regularly now. After the engine is started, at 1500RPM -- no vibration. After warming up, at 1100rpm, -- can feel engine vibrates. After engaging D gear, -- no vibration. What is the most likely cause? Notes: 1 - Car is 4 years old @ 84K mileage. 2 - Last major servicing about 1.5 years ago including decarbonization, fuel injector cleaning with regular 6 months oil change interval.
  7. 2nd bidding start for jan 2012 soon...how u think?

  10. ST Forum Couple raring to start family face housing woes LIKE Mr Lim Chong Wee, I too cannot realise my dreams of owning an HDB flat ("Stuck in housing limbo despite higher ceiling"; last Wednesday). I bought a small private studio apartment about five years ago when I was single and below 35 years old. The flat is under my name. However, I got married last year and am seeking to move to a bigger place for my wife and myself. We are both Singaporeans and we wanted to apply for a bigger matrimonial flat jointly to start a family. I have been trying to sell my current apartment at valuation so as to be eligible for an executive condominium (EC). However, HDB rules state that you have to wait 30 months after selling your property. Why is there a need for this 30-month clause? Where does the HDB expect us to live in the interim? Do they expect us to join the already heated-up rental market and rent a flat while waiting out the 30 months? The EC itself takes a few years to complete and that would further extend our waiting time. B. Elamaaran
  11. am thinking about doing some slight upgrades to the sound system in my dc5, but have no idea what to start with. I suppose the first thing to do is to buy a better HU (maybe the 9887, but where to get it from now?) than the cheap pioneer I have now, but what after that? I'm really not looking at installing any woofers and if possible, amps as well, not in the short term at least. Is something like this doable? Or should I just stick with my stock setup and forget about doing any upgrades?
  12. Dear Forummers, I am driving a Mazda 3, 2006 model with a mileage of 50k. Lately during morning start, occassionally there will be a weird sound; as if the engine is choked, unlike the standard engine noise. After turning it off and restart, it'll be normal again. Can anyone enlighten me as to what the problem might be? I've went to Mazda but couldnt locate the fault as it only occurs when the engine is cold. All views is appreciated. thanks
  13. Hi all, I am driving a Sylphy 1.5, 13 months old. Yesterday I realise the sports rim silver start to peel off and inside is black in colour. It is not due to scratches as all my rims are perfect without scratches. I wonder anyone who is driving the same model (2010) has got this problem. I compliant to Tan Chong and is going down and ask for replacement. If posible change all to other model as I am afraid the other 3 will peel off soon also.
  14. Anyone has such problem?
  15. After cold start, my AUTO car's RPM drop and after a few seconds it started to vibrate, rpm went low and died. What could possibly be the reason?
  16. property tax has been revised upwards. letter received last week for my co's residential ppty..AV was up 15% from 24k to 27.6k so can be quite sure it is more than the $110 TVL. not sure abt HDB yet but be prepared. collect money quite fast ma..

  18. Was told by my friends that for your car to last longer, you need to start the car often, when you are not driving it. Please clear my doubts! Thanks in advance.
  19. Just recently an Indian FT joined my company as a dept manager. He is a graduate and in the middle 30s. As such, many of us are talking about FTs, talking about the pros and cons, talking about not welcoming them blah blah...the usual stuff. Basically there is so much conversation ever since he joined us. But the thing is...over the past 3 years, we have many FTs joining my company. The difference is they are from UK, Australia, US and France, joining the company on expat package as assistant managers and managers and assistant directors....But no one ever talked about them being FT or about FT systems when they joined.. I wonder why the different attitudes and sentiments...
  20. Say you leave your car for 1 week, and try to start it after that. Will the battery go dead ? What was the longest time you left your car without starting it and the battery was still ok ?
  21. Anyone can advise?
  22. guys, i need advise, for the past 3 days, whenever i cold start my vios, RPM will be erratic. normally, it will rev till approx 1.8k to warm the engine oil and will slowly reduce RPM once it is sufficiently warmed approx 2 mins. now, it is NOT reving when i start it and it will be slowly reving upwards approx 100rpm at a time, and all of sudden shoot to 2k and come down abruptly. meaning to say that the engine is reving it heart out and idling almost at the same time. any one know what is wrong with it. thanks in advance
  23. Hi all, Its interesting to keep reading on as you guys share info. I am picking up on the go as I read on. So a big thanks in advance and especially to Ken4555, Furrynadz, Yuan and Trex101 for helping me out when I first posted in this forum. One of the questions I have now (believe me, I have more in my mind then this haha) is that being said that I am collecting my new vehicle - Honda Jazz 1.3(A)LX soon, it means that I have to do run-ins like everyone else. I read that it is recommended that for the first 500 to 1000km, short trips of less than 15minutes is best. But in my daily travel, I estimate that I will be: Starting at Sengkang, go down all the way to Novena to drop my partner off, then proceed to Clementi. So this entire trip will be way beyond 15 minutes. So should I take such daily trips right from the start? Or make my partner wait while I run-in short trips till after 500km or after 1000km before I start sending her down in long trips? Cause I am really worried that if the 15minute short trip is really crucial, running such long distance trip from the start will not do well for my run-in thus resulting in less lifespan for the vehicle. Please enlighten me with what you think? Pretty troubled here Another question is, for tyre pressure, what do you guys use to check it? How is it done, pardon me as I am still in the midst of reading up articles in car bible and other websites, so will be some time before I know even the basics. But am trying my best =)
  24. Hi all, I believe we have all heard that the thinner the engine oil, the easier it is to flow to various parts of the engine thereby giving better protection during start up? But, I realised that lube oil pumps are basically gear pump, they are positive displacement pumps, where capacity is directly proportional to the rotation speed. The capacity of gear pumps should not be affected by the viscosity of engine oil under our local climate, whether 0w20 or 20w50 the flow rate from a positive displacement pump should be almost the same, right? Maybe cold countries where temperature are freezing and the pour point of oil are affected, then perhaps the engine oil viscosity would affect the capacity of gear pumps. The oil if get too thick due to cold weather then the relieve valve of the pump will blow (by-pass back to suction?) due to higher pumping pressure, so discharge volume will reduce. If that is the case, then for our local environment whether using thinner or thicker oil the protection should be same at start-up? Perhaps the advantage of thinner oil is only for better fuel efficiency only? What do you think?
