  1. every morning when i go to work, i start my engine, my engine will roar to life like it going to burst. then my rpm will dance from 800 to 1500 then to 1200 then back to 800, for like 10 sec. anything wrong?

  3. Just curious, from my undestanding in MCF, most car batteries last for 2 yrs. But i have came across many others uses their battery for more than 4 yrs. Just wondering what is the average lifespan of the car battery and if you can share the brand of the battery, that will be beneficial for all of us here.. For me, the battery which last me longest was Amaron, it was the green colour batter with 60amp/hr rating. use it in my elantra for 2yrs + and swap with my bro in law since his battery was bloated and i was scrapping my ride. He manage to use it for another few yrs. Total lifespan of the battery was more than 5 years. Other brand such as yokohama, varta, yuasa, panasonic & etc only last around 1.5yrs to 2 yrs +
  4. My car's engine shudders when start up in the morning. The shuddering can be felt through the steering wheel and it is not a continuous shudder but an irregular beat every 2 to 3 seconds. This symptom was already felt when the car was new but as the car ages, the effect is just more pronounced. After the engine's water temp is at operating range, the symptom disappeared. Changed the spark plugs and the problem was still there. Need to gather ideas on what could be the other components e.g. sensors, idle up valve etc contributing to this problem before I bring it into the workshop. Thanks everyone.
  5. hi all, my frenz gave me these 2 items . Ani1 noes where can fix these..cheap n gd..hee tks

  7. Looking at one of the advertiser selling a Korean smart entry system, where the car door will auto unlock once it detect a transpondent(keyfob) nearby. It will also auto lock the car door once the transpondent is away from car. As I just bought a new car, would like to have this smart key entry system for my car. The keyfob will remai in my pant pocket all the time while the car door unlock and lock depending I am near to the car or leaving the car. This keyless system plus a push button engine start/ stop would make my car like nissan or high end Bmw/lexus/mercs. I would like to gather some feedbacks from car owners who have installed and using this keyless cum push button system. Any comments and recommendation? Reliable? Or any weird and unsatisfactory operation experiences to share? Thanks.
  8. Hello! Just some doubts that you guys can help: When you start your car EVERYTIME, is it better to switch off aircon and radio first? Or just aircon enough? Or it is perfectly alright just leave them on when switiching off and starting up your car? Read somewhere that it affects the car battery or alternator or something like that.. Cheers
  9. Hi forumers, i have encountered this problems, can anyone tell me if this is really battery problem? 1) For the past 1.5 months, i failed to start engine after 1st crank. Only manage to start it during the 2nd time. This happens 1 month ago and today 2) It takes longer time for me to crank the engine. i need to turn key and hold it longer before i start the engine. Even a lorry can crank and start engine faster than me. I need to hold and hear *eeh eeh eeh eeh eeh eeh eeh eeh eeh eeh voom" Normal cranking is "eeh eeh eeh voom" 3) Occasionally i hear weak cranking when starting engine What i have done : - Bring to workshop twice already. They tested battery and alternator. All result shows normal. - I told the workshop mechanic that my long cranking is extremely un-normal. I am not driving a lorry. My ride is 2.5mth old only Shall i bring the car to the workshop the 3rd time? So tired of it already. The battery is still under warranty but seems that its so difficult for them to change a new one for me. I thought of just paying $ for a new one but i am afraid that if its not battery fault, then what is the fault? Can anyone advise me or have encountered this problem for new car?
  10. The other day I was discussing with my colleague on what happen if battery dead, and need to push-start a car. My colleague from electrical training told me that modern car using ECU need electricity to function. In case battery dead, there will be no electricity to start a manual transmission car even if we attempt push start, because ECU does not function. Older generation car can be push-start because not so depended on electrical power. For those whom had the unlucky experience of successfully push-start a modern car, please share your experience on which model car you did it on. Thanks.
  11. I tried to start my car (Mitsubitshi Lancer EX with keyless entry) today but the knob wouldn't turn as the car didn't seem to be detecting the key which was in my pocket. After moving the key around the car to check if it was a bad spot, I got fed up and decided to use the spare car instead as I was running late. At this point, it seems like the sensor to detect the key was spoilt; I was sure that it wasn't the key that was spoilt because I managed to enter the car using the keyless function without any problem. When I came back, I tried using the manual key but the engine wouldn't start. Instead of starting, there was a weird electrical buzzing noice but it seemed nothing like what you'd heard if the battery were flat. After looking through the manual for 2-3 minutes, I tried starting the car again and somehow, it started PERFECTLY without any problems. I tried it a few more times and it worked like nothing was wrong in the first place. While I'm thankful that it is working now, I'm still concerned that something was wrong and I don't know what it is. As I'm always running around between appointments, I can't afford for the car to die on me suddenly. Any suggestions?

    A new start for Ford

The Ford Start Concept is the first concept car created by Ford in more than three years and will make its debut at the Beijing International Auto Show. It also marks the first time Ford has unveiled an all new concept vehicle at a China show. The Start Concept is more than simply a design study. It previews a fuel efficient 1L three-cylinder EcoBoost engine with the power of a larger Inline 4 engine. The Ford Start Concept was inspired in part by a growing global trend toward mass urbanization. Today, more than 50 percent of the world
  13. Ford has jumped into the burgeoning urban car segment with both feet at the Beijing Motor Show with the Start concept. The design study was developed to look at ways of building a smaller, more affordable car using fewer raw materials. The structure is a combination of aluminum and high strength steels to keep weight down without sacrificing safety, while the body panels are made from recyclable composites that already have the color molded in, eliminating the need to paint. The Start's styling is clean and simple, but not as interesting as the "Kinetic" design of cars like the all-new 2011 Focus. The simpler shape is surely less expensive to manufacture than Ford's current crop of vehicles and that simplification strategy extends to the interior where the Start introduces MyFord Mobile. This MyFord iteration relies on smartphones to provide much of the functionality provided by MyFord Touch without having to install all the extra hardware. Ford emphasizes that, with one exception, the Start is purely a design study with no production plans for the time being. However, the Start's powertrain
  14. The Hyundai-Kia train and its full head of steam don't look likely to give out any time soon. To wit, the company has been adding style to its price and fuel frugality, and technology isn't being left out. The Sonata Hybrid is on its way for next year and will boast better mileage than the 35-mpg Elantra Blue, and now the company has announced it will be engineering stop/start ability into much of the H-K model line in America over the next two years. We won't see those cars until "the next product cycle" in 2012, but when we do, the projections are that it will yield three percent better fuel economy. True, that might only take the Sonata Hybrid up to 38/40 mpg, but who knows how much a gallon of gas will cost by then
  15. remember F1 ? recalled who's Micheal Schumacher? who is driving for what team? what are the changes in the rules and regulations? Yes, the season had begun once again for 2010 ! and this year we start the races in Bahrain. it is all so exciting to be honest... because i do not think anyone can predict what is going to happen for the 1st race or the season! as Jenson Button said it 'this season will be electric' we had to believe the 2009 champion, don't we?!? i am really looking forward to this 1st race and can't wait what unfolds schedule from formula1.com: Practice 1 FRI 15:00 Practice 2 FRI 19:00 Practice 3 SAT 16:00 Qualifying SAT 19:00 Race SUN 20:00 and the pic/ table from wiki

  19. Hi bro, I just curious about what are the usual path people take to go to local university (NUS,NTU and SMU). Currently, I am a year 1 student @ SMU and I am basically struggling with everything. Prior to that, I was from NYP and I did quite well with an overall GPA of 3.5. Most of my peers from polytechnic are also struggling to make a mark for ourselves in SMU. I did not know about other universities that why I am trying to find some opinions from you guys here. I came from a neighbourhood pri and sec school, My O level results aren't that fantastic. 23 pointer... English only C6. But my Hokkien sure A1. hahaha... Does 2 years in JC helps you adopting life in University better or 3 years in polytechnic? What is your choice? Anyway, my personal view, I think that JC students have strong command in english languages, be it verbally or written. They are very good at expressing themselves and are very vocal when it comes to class participation in SMU. Polytechnic students like us does not have such a strong command in english. When I submit my individual projects, my prof actually pin point all my grammers! It damn saddening to say that us polytechnic students has such lousy english standard or is it just me? The only advantages we have is prior experience to technology stuff which means that we are more tech-savvy, that's all. And I really admired those JC student who can speak professional english. How I wish I could be like them. Oh yah, not forgetting our foreign students. SMU has a lot of foreign students from Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia and China. Some of the more weird one are people from South Africa, South Korea and Japan studying here full time. I really have to say that other than their command of english, they are way smarter than all of us Singaporeans. Many came here thru scholarship and we singaporean have to take loan from CPF or Bank to study. How sad can it be isn't it? Hope to see more response to this tread!
  20. I'm experiencing weak start up today. What could be the reason? Am Driving Latio Sedan. I have encounter this situation: Recently, my car battery went flat for no good reason. On Monday, I reached my office, attempted to lock the car using the knob on the door, beeping was heard. I took out my remote key and tried locking it, but it does not work. So, I tried with manual way. Until when i get back to my car after work. My car cannot start up at all. I tried with the key but it still does not work. Thought my remote battery went flat, I went to buy CR2025 batt and replace it. From far, I tried locking n unlocking the car, I saw weak faint light on my car. I called for jump start company to help me . Paid $30. Went to workshop and ask the mech to check e battery for me. Mech checked e car batt and assured that it is still working fine. Even the legend shown that green is OK. (I checked for myself that my Car Batt is in green stage). Car batt is 1.5yr old. maintenance free. GP brand. I never leave my light on at all. Assuming that the car batt went flat after i off e engine? Now im experiencing weak starting of car. Anyone know e reason? Thanks Since I'm very near to Autopoint, anyone care to tell which workshop over there is trustworthy. Thanks again.

  23. Retirement age of SAF officers to be raised from 45 to 50 By Jeremy Koh/Satish Cheney, Channel NewsAsia | Posted: 14 May 2009 1712 hrs Photos 1 of 1 Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) SINGAPORE : The Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) has announced several new and enhanced career schemes for its personnel. These include raising the retirement age of SAF officers and a new military domain expert scheme (MDES). The retirement age for SAF officers will be raised from 45 to 50. Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Teo Chee Hean said this will ensure their leadership abilities and experience are retained. He announced the changes during a visit to Sembawang Airbase on Thursday. For regulars, there will be the MDES, with a retirement age of 60. The aim is to nurture a group of personnel who have deep professional expertise in key military domains, such as engineering and intelligence. The military domain experts will have a new eight-rank structure from ME1 to ME8. Mr Teo said: "Military domain experts will work with cutting-edge systems, receive more academic and professional upgrading opportunities, as well as attractive market based remuneration. Military domain experts with diplomas will have opportunities to upgrade their skills and qualifications through degree level." Mr Teo also announced that warrant officers will have expanded job scope and responsibilities. For instance, they will assume roles previously undertaken by junior officers. To allow for a faster progression through the ranks, a new 3rd Warrant Officer rank will be introduced. With this new rank, high-performing specialists can attain their warrant officership as early as the end of their sixth year in service. There will also be more opportunities for them to upgrade themselves professionally and academically. The Ministry of Defence will implement these enhanced and new schemes by the first quarter of 2010. - CNA/ms
