I eat at the Pasir Panjang hawker centre often, and the petrol stations across the road are my go to places to fill up, so it gave me an interesting opportunity to see the process of the rebuilding of the SPC station along the main road. When they declared renovations and closure, with the distribution of vouchers, I figured it might just be a promotional thing to share vouchers, but I noted that the down time was almost three months, so something might be afoot and be of interest to MCF members.. This station has been here for a while, and retains the old colors and branding, so I guess the company decided to refresh the look. I was also keen to see if this station will be converted to a EV charging station too.. so stay tuned.. Hey guys... this is not a thread to offend people who go to petrol stations to wash their cars... As usual... had sat dinner with my family... both sisters came home to eat.. then my second bro in law... he is a doctor so no time to go wash car.. his maid also no time.. take care of children.. then he was like.. shall i try out petrol station car wash? I was like go ahead.. But his car also coated with amazing glaZE.. so. i was abit worried.. but he said. dun want u to wash cause very hazy... i just drive out to wash it. So we drove it to shell car wash. serangoon gardens. Went in, they sprayed the car with high pressure jet( cool! ) then they started to spray the foam.. that was nice.. but the sponge they use like never rinse or wash away previous cars dirt leh.. they just PIAK and start scrubbing away then when everything finish. they spray the car again . Now come the drying part. I was at the back seat and saw the guys taking cloths ( those normal cloths) and started drying on the car.. very effecient 3 men to the car. BUT. the cloth was black.. and when they finished drying the car, they used the same cloth to dry thye rims and tyres.. I WAS LIKE... OMFG! then i stared at my bro in law.. he was like.. yeah yeah. thats how they do it.. But overall... the job was not so good not so bad... okay okay only... For me, as a person who washes my parents car myself, i still considered the car dirty. So when we drove home, i inspected the car... some bird sxxt still stuck on the paint work.. then the rims... were oily.. i dont know why. And there was stil dirt. But no time to wash the whole car again. so i just re-washed the rims.. and they turned out shing shing sparkling clean again... So i am not against petrol station car wash. Just find that they dont do a very through job. But for $6, i think a job about 70% done.. okay lah.. nth much to say.. Yupp Just my six cents worth..

The Station Wagon Had a Pretty Good Year in 2018 In the absolutely superb 1949 war film Twelve O’Clock High, a doctor stationed at a U.S. Army Air Force base in WW2 England uses an interesting comparison when describing a character’s mental breakdown. “Have you ever seen a light bulb burn out? How bright the filament gets right before it breaks?” A similar phenomenon could be at work in a certain vehicle niche, one which gets more press than actual sales warrant. The lowly, reviled, and suddenly revered station wagon, now referred to in terms meant to dispel the stodgy family hauler image of decades past. Never mind that BMW just announced its 3 Series wagon won’t make a return trip from Europe. There’s wagons aplenty these days, and it’s this writer’s firm belief that you’ll never have a better change to bring home a competent non-light truck cargo hauler. It’s now or never. While wagon variants allow automakers to rack up additional sales of a given nameplate, the wagon community remains a small one. Loyal and passionate, but small. And what room there is for growth depends on your level of optimism. As Bloomberg notes, 2018 was a great year for wagon sales, simply because consumers suddenly found themselves with choice. Buick has the new Regal TourX, Jaguar has the new XF Sportbrake, Volvo has the tony V90 and V60, Mercedes-Benz has the dignified E 450 4Matic wagon and disgruntled AMG E63 S wagon, Audi has the A4 Allroad, and Volkswagen will still gladly sell you a modest Golf SportWagen. All of this choice resulted in a bigger niche than years past. Some 212,000 wagons left U.S. dealer lots in 2018, representing a 29 percent sales increase compared to five years earlier. Still, wagons amounted to less than 2 percent of the new vehicle market last year. That’s plug-in car territory. This group of buyers, described by Buick marketing director Sam Russell as “almost violently opposed to being mainstream,” doesn’t want to be seen driving an anonymous crossover. And let’s face it, it’s easier to sculpt a sexy wagon than a high-riding, bulbous crossover. Thing is, though, wagons sales are a slim wedge of the overall volume of a particular nameplate. As sedan sales falter, wagons, despite their snob appeal, won’t pick up enough of the slack. All a wagon can do is delay a model’s discontinuation, if we’re to assume today’s market shift continues uninterrupted. If sedans disappear from our streets, so too will wagons, despite wagons being a happy middle ground between sedans and crossovers. A sad situation, if the worst-case scenario comes to pass. While Bloomberg reports Buick’s TourX sales “increased steadily” over the past 12 months, Volvo’s gorgeous V90 is now available by custom order only, and Jaguar’s XF Sportbrake, while sultry, has to contend with the fact that no one’s interested in buying Jaguar cars these days. Even the brand’s crossovers can’t keep sales in the black. Despite the recent uptick in wagon interest and availability, it’s hard not to see this phenomenon as a tired light bulb valiantly burning its way towards destruction.- 134 replies

Welcome to PW2 Teck Lee LRT station, the station that remained shut for more than 12 years since the Punggol LRT system opened in 2005. Situated on the west loop of the Punggol LRT, trains supposedly pass by this station without stopping, as seen in the video below. The station seems to be somewhat rundown — covered with dirt, looking fairly weathered. Even the map in the station is the really old version. Hotel at Bugis to make way for new Downtown Line MRT station (Artist's impression) The new Bugis station will be sited under Rochor Road and partly within the adjacent land to the west. THE Government will acquire the New Seventh Storey Hotel at Bugis to make way for a Downtown Line (DTL) MRT station. The Land Transport Authority said on Thursday that the hotel will have to be vacated by year end to enable comprehensive redevelopment of the area. The new Bugis station is one of six that make up the 4.3 km DTL Stage 1 (DTL1) that will run from Bugis Station on the East-West Line (EWL) to Chinatown Station on the North East Line (NEL). The other five stations are Promenade, Bayfront, Landmark, Cross Street and Chinatown. The new line is scheduled to open in 2013. The new Bugis station will be sited under Rochor Road and partly within the adjacent land to the west. LTA said due to engineering constraints which cannot be avoided, the land currently occupied by the New Seventh Storey Hotel and part of the adjacent state land fronting Rochor Road, is needed for the construction of the station box and station structures, such as the station's entrance and lift facility. 'The hotel will have to be demolished to allow for the construction of the station,' said LTA. The hotel site will be amalgamated with the adjacent state land parcel at North Bridge Road, Tan Quee Lan Street, Beach Road and Rochor Road for future comprehensive redevelopment. LTA said the amalgamation of the hotel site with the adjacent land parcel will allow for better integration of the station with future development in the area, and allow the planned pedestrian network and urban design plans for the area to be carried out. The owner and occupants of the New Seven Storey Hotel, who will have to move out of the building by end December, will receive compensation pegged at market value. LTA said commuters will have more transport choices in the city as the DTL 1 will serve existing and upcoming developments in the Marina Bay area, including One Raffles Quay, The Sail @ Marina Bay, Marina Bay Sands Integrated Resorts and the Marina Bay Financial Centre. The contract for the construction of the new DTL Bugis station and tunnels from Beach Road to Queen Street will be up for tender in early July and awarded in November. Alway see taxi and cars stopping to alight or pick up passengers. Was wondering if there is any proper alighting point for them instead of kana summon and demerit pts. Town council should built one for the citizen living in the estate using our $$$.Of cos, the bottom line is to not to obstruct traffic like an alighting bay.

"At around 11.10am today, there was an accident involving two SMRT maintenance staff along the track at a servicing point near Pasir Ris station," said Mr Patrick Nathan, Vice-President, Corporate Information and Communications, SMRT Corp. "SCDF was immediately activated and they have confirmed that the two SMRT staff have passed away. We convey our deepest condolences to their families and will be providing support to them at this very difficult time," added Mr Nathan. "We are working with the Police to conduct a detailed investigation into this accident." The brother of a signals officer who witnessed the accident told Channel NewsAsia that the signals officer was "traumatised". Pasir Ris resident Francis Dorairaj, who was at the scene, expressed shock and disbelief. "Why were maintenance people on the track when the train was operating?" he questioned. TRAIN SERVICES DISRUPTED Train services along the East-West Line were also disrupted. SMRT announced at 11.20am on Twitter that there would be no train services between Tanah Merah and Pasir Ris in both directions until about 12.15pm. This disruption was later extended till 12.45pm, but by 1.35pm, service had not yet resumed. Doctor's captions on YouTube videos of spat spark harassment case http://www.straitstimes.com/news/singapore/courts-crime/story/doctors-captions-youtube-videos-spat-spark-harassment-case-2015011 What began as a petrol station spat between two men has escalated into an anti-harassment case involving YouTube videos. A district court yesterday ordered Dr K. Paramesvaran, who is better known as Dr Param, to remove the captions he had put into two videos that he uploaded detailing his run-in with Frenchman Yannick Pierre Yves Le Borgne at a Caltex station last April. The order is an interim one until the case is settled in court. This is believed to be the first time thaoot a court has issued an expedited protection order (EPO) under the Protection from Harassment Act, landmark legislation passed last year which, among other things, seeks to curb online harassment. Unlike a protection order, an EPO is issued on a temporary basis to prevent further alleged harassment until a case is settled. The court has also ordered that the captions cannot be printed by any other parties. The videos seem to have been taken from closed-circuit television footage at a petrol station in the Holland Road area. In one 6.5-minute video, Dr Param, managing director of Medical Imaging, which runs a chain of radiological clinics, is seen paying at the petrol kiosk's counter. A Caucasian man then approaches the doctor from behind, and starts talking to him. He points his finger several times, and is also seen patting Dr Param on the shoulder. In another three-minute video, the 36-year-old Frenchman is seen stopping his car alongside that of Dr Param's as he is pumping air into his tyres. He steps out of the car and again gesticulates towards Dr Param and engages him in some kind of argument. It is unclear what started the spat but the entire episode seems to have left Dr Param aggrieved. He lodged a Magistrate's Complaint shortly after the incident and the case was probed by the police as a case of intentional harassment. But last November, police informed him that after considering the facts and circumstances of the case and with advice from the Attorney-General's Chambers, no further action would be taken against Mr Yannick. Last month, the doctor, who is in his 60s, posted the two videos to air his grievances. Mr Yannick, who is represented by lawyer Choo Zheng Xi, claimed the text and commentary accompanying the videos, which could have gone viral, was a continuing source of harassment to him. He applied to have the text removed. The judge ruled that the videos have to be renamed "Incident at Caltex on 20 April 2014". But Dr Param, who was defended by lawyer Foo Soon Yien, is free to state on the videos that the previous comments had been removed pending a trial. According to the ruling, failure to obey the court's order could result in a contempt of court action or a Protection of Harassment Act offence which carries a fine of up to $5,000 and/or a jail term of up to six months. Responding to queries, a State Courts spokesman said yesterday that since the new Act came into force last Nov 15 till Jan 7 this year, there have been 79 Magistrate's Complaints for harassment. There were also 13 applications for Protection Orders under Originating Summons. Magistrate's Complaints relate to criminal cases while Originating Summons are civil remedies. Three Protection Orders have been issued by the State Courts, and the remainder of the cases are ongoing, she added.

An additional station will be built between Yishun and Sembawang on the North-South Line, and it will be known as Canberra station, said Transport Minister Lui Tuck Yew on Friday (June 27). He said the feasibility study has been completed, and the Land Transport Authority will provide more details on it later. Mr Lui was speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony for the Thomson Line, which will be opened in three phases in 2019, 2020 and 2021. When fully opened, the line will bring an additional 60 per cent capacity to the North-South corridor, he said. When fully completed in 2021, the Thomson Line will have 22 stations, including six interchanges. The line will see a projected daily ridership of about 400,000 commuters, and will serve several housing estates in the north and central areas – including Woodlands, Sin Ming, Thomson and Kim Seng – and connect them to the city and the rest of the MRT network. The 30km-long line will also be eventually linked to Johor Bahru in Malaysia, he said. Apart from the new line, Mr Lui also spoke about the planned expansions to the existing rail network – the West Loop of the Punggol LRT, which will open on Sunday (June 29); the North-South Line Extension, which will open later this year; the Tuas West Extension, which will open in 2016; and the Downtown Line, which will be fully opened in 2017. A train stalled at Redhill MRT station on Friday night, forcing hundreds of passengers to disembark. The train was travelling in the direction of Joo Koon on the East-West Line. The incident occurred at about 11.10pm, according to affected commuters. "The train door opened and closed for like 10 times. Then there was an announcement asking passengers to leave the train," said student Sarah Au-Yong, 21, who boarded the train at Outram for Queenstown. "But many of us were still confused. It was only when they turned off the lights in the train that people realised it had broken down." Many commuters made a beeline for taxi stands, but some chose to wait for service to resume at the station, she said. The train was still at Redhill MRT station at 11.30pm.
