  1. A leak was discovered in one of the fuel tanks within the Shell retail petrol station in Sembawang. The leak appeared to be an isolated case which has now been contained. No one was injured during the incident. The station will be closed indefinitely until the area is cleaned up and the cause of the leak investigated. A Shell spokesperson said: "We apologise for any inconvenience caused. Safety remains a key priority in our operations." Source: http://www.straitstimes.com/breaking-news/...bawang-20130528
  2. Stomp Tuesday, May 21, 2013 SINGAPORE - Stomp reported that a fire was seen at the Traffic Police station in Paya Lebar Road at about 1.15pm. A Stomp contributor, Diana, had said the SCDF soon arrived to put out the blaze. Diana said: "We were enjoying our lunch in the office when suddenly one of our colleagues ran in and urged us to go out. "We were all surprised to see that a fire had broken out at the Traffic Police station, and a lot of loud sounds were heard. "Within five minutes, two fire engine cars arrived and put the fire down."
  3. Parang-wielding group assaults man at Johor police station 1 0 0 By Mohd Farhaan Shah The Star/Asia News Network Sunday, May 19, 2013 JOHOR BARU - A group of parang-wielding men stormed a police station in Labis, about 150km from here, and attacked a man who had earlier rescued a constable. Policemen rushed to help the victim and arrested the five intruders in the 11am incident yesterday. They also seized four machetes. Earlier, it is learnt, one of the suspects had stopped a car carrying the constable, his wife and two friends along the Labis-Segamat trunk road. When the policeman got out of the car, one of them slashed him in the back. One of the policeman's friends quickly pulled him back into the car and they sped towards the Labis police station, several kilometres away. The five suspects followed in another car and entered the police station where they started to attack the constable's friend. Johor CID chief Senior Asst Comm Datuk Dr Hashim Haron said the victims, in their 40s, had been admitted to the Segamat Hospital to treat their slash wounds. "The five suspects are aged between 30 and 40," he said. SAC Dr Hashim said the incident might have been due to an old grudge or personal problems between the constable and one of the suspects.
  4. http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/sin...1253887/1/.html SINGAPORE: A fire has broken out at Newton MRT station on Wednesday morning. The Singapore Civil Defence Force says officers are now at the scene. Train services on the North South Line have been affected. There are no train services between Newton and Toa Payoh towards Jurong East. SMRT says free public and shuttle buses are now available at affected stations between Toa Payoh and Newton.
  5. Anyone knows which MSCP has vaccum cleaner station at the washing bay in the west area.?? Tot i saw it at a MSCP at sengkang area (Rivervale crescent or soemwhere ard there)... just drove past and never use it.
  6. a controversy/talking point recently actually no big deal lah... maybe they really want to cater for the 1m PRC here? haha anyway if they want to make things easier for our old folks who may have difficulties understanding English, they may want to announce the stations in the old names eg Lavender is "mang gar ka" instead of "lao ming da" or Kovan is "ou gang lark kok jio" instead of "gao wen" i'm think many of our old folks won't know where "lao ming da" and "gao wen" refers to, so no point...
  7. I see it all the time: people queuing up at the counter while their car is being filled up. When it's their turn to pay and the car is not ready, the cashier will signal for the second chap to move up. When their car is ready, they will be first in the queue. When you have a few people doing it, it sometimes causes congestion and confusion; and everyone is delayed due to the crowd. I only queue up after my car is ready. Am I being stupid or what?
  8. The National Heritage Board together with the Singapore & Malaysian Vintage Car Register held their 2012 Motoring Heritage Day at the Tanjong Pagar Railway Station over the weekend. It was a fitting location as the two day event not only showcased the cars from days gone by, but at the same time, the now unused train station was opened up for visitors to roam another relic of transportation. I popped by for a short visit on the second day, took in the sights and at the same time, took some photos. Honestly, i'm not much of a vintage man, the cars which interest me extend back to the most, the 1970s or late 1960s. There are some exceptions of course, muscle cars and rat rods are granted exemption from that rule too. Cars like this Alfa fit just nicely at the ends of that age group. It might be getting on in years but this is one of the most lovely cars in my book. It's nice to know Alfa hasn't (totally) lost their flair for producing some good looking cars. "Some" because there were some turds along the way. There were a couple of Karmann Ghia convertibles sitting around looking pretty. The Karmann Ghia might have started production in the mid 50s but continued to be made up to the mid-late 70s, so it still falls within range of cars which pique my interest. Another car with a similarly long production lifespan was this Fiat 500. Or if you are familiar with the movie, Cars, Luigi! Cars like this Frogeye Sprite get special exemption. Just look at those lights! See the link with our modern day MX5 grins? Pagoda SL. Audrey Hepburn. Imagine filling this up at the petrol station. Simply elegant back then.
  9. Hi brothers, What fm radio stations can be received clearly when travelling along NS highway from skudai to malacca?
  10. No compaigns, door-to-door visits, rallies, battle cries nor slogans And certainly no drama at all. Just some fanciful brochures sent prior telling you what will or will not happen after you voted and a 歌台 at a void deck blasting loud music with a skimpily-dressed singer belting out Hokkien songs just outside the polling station. Yes a fully functioning 歌台 though small but with all the works [shocked] Wow. Oh did I mention a free umbrella given as an incentive for those take the trouble to come & vote? Eye-opener for a sua ku like me in a LUP polling. And it will cost me a cool $S1,245 from my CPF either in full or via installments in 5 or 10 years, interest of 7.5% to pay for the new lifts if more than 75% of the folks are in favour of the upgrading. Definitely not be as exciting as another more anticipated polling event come 26 May 2012 somewhere nearby [laugh] How about your LUP polling?
  11. An accident involving five vehicles took place in front of Braddell MRT Station at 2.20pm on Saturday. The vehicles involved were a taxi, a grey Toyota Camry, a green Toyota Allion, a black Suzuki and a black BMW. It is understood that the Camry drove out from under Block 107, hit the taxi, before reversing and hitting the Suzuki. It then reversed again, colliding into the metal railing outside the MRT exit. 12. Many people know what a station wagon is. Basically, it is a sedan car with its roof extended towards the rear and the rear boot is usually replaced with a lifting tail door. The station wagon comes in two distinct design; a four door (the most common design that we get to see) and a two door which is also known as a shooting brake. Many automakers give unique names for their station wagon versions. For example, Volkswagen names their station wagons as Variants. Other than that, we have heard of other version names for station wagons such as estate, carryall, touring, sportwagon and etc. But the most common names used are the station wagon, estate and shooting brake. If you are wondering how these 3 names come about, then read on. Back in the early era of the automotive industry, the first station wagons people got to see were the wooden-bodied Ford Model Ts and at that time there were known as
  13. Just wanted to discuss an experience I just had at the Dunearn Rd Shell Station (the one the near Turf City junction). This Shell has been freely giving out those "$3 off every $40 petrol" vouchers like water. I have 3 whole sheets of these vouchers. They allow you to use more than one voucher per fill, e.g. $120 petrol (before discount) = $9 off. I was also pleasantly surprised recently when I "won" an $8 voucher during my last fill - this is that promotion where they match the serial no. of the receipt or something. It's like a lucky draw. Anyway, this is not something that's freely given out. So today I filled a full tank of V-power, as I usually do. The bill was just over $128 dollars. Naively, I assumed that I could use my $8 voucher plus three of those $3 vouchers to get a total discount of $17. Nope, think again. The counter staff (PRC girl) told me this was not possible because "both of them were vouchers" and I couldn't use 2 sorts of vouchers together. Or something like that. This struck me as unfair and stupid. For one thing, even after discounting the $8 voucher, I would still legitimately be able to use 3 of the "free" $3 coupons. It's not like I was trying to pull a fast one by getting a discount to which I was not entitled. Furthermore, the expiration date for the $8 voucher was close to the expiration date for all the free stamps (of which I had tons, more than I would be able to finish before the expiration date). So that essentially meant my "special" $8 voucher was fairly useless to me because I would never be able to use it in conjunction with the other stamps. If there had been someone waiting in line behind me, I would just have sucked it up and moved on. But since I wasn't inconveniencing any other customers, I decided to play hardball. I insisted on speaking to the manager. The PRC girl at first insisted she was the manageress there, and her decision was final. I said, OK I will write an email registering my displeasure to Shell. At this point, she relented and agreed to make a phone call to her manager (so there *was* someone higher she could readily contact after all ). After that call, she came out all apologetic and said they would accept all the vouchers together. $17 off. Finally. So I got what I wanted, but only after a good bit of table-banging. It's not even about the money, it's about being fair to the customer and the principle of the thing. Just wanted to vent a little, and share my experience so the bros here know what to expect.
  14. Source: http://news.omy.sg/News/Local%2BNews/Story...517-287227.html involves 1 mini lorry, 1 taxi and 3 sedans!
  15. Pump Station : Serangoon Garden Shell Date and Time : 24sept11 2250hrs Sian, encountered a really snobbish driver just now. Drove in the station for Vpower, the 1st 2 pumps had cones with 'refuelling in progress' signage. Saw a car parking BESIDE curb, few metres away from entrance to 7-11 and possibly beside the 1st pump a car body width away, so I drove pass and seeing ahead all pumps were occupied, i stopped just before the 2nd pump which is not in service also as mentioned. Then i heard the car that parked BESIDE the curb horned for no reason, i turned my head and saw the LL face driver waving at me exasperatingly, showing the hand palm face up sign while still horning. Then I realised he was ACTUALLY waiting for his turn BESIDE the curb. So i just waved back exasperatingly too for him to drive ahead of me to the pump that was just vacated lor. As this drama unfolded, there was actually no car behind, so do u think i know he was actually queuing and i wanted to jump queue? Actually wanted to let this small matter pass, but as i drove pass his car and he got down and gave me the LL look of 'u want to jump queue issit?'. I really cannot stand it but to wind down the window and told him, 'how i know you are waiting?' You know what his reply? 'den what, u think i looking at the scenery?' Ya right looking at the scenery parking BESIDE the curb waiting. With this kind of remark, few mins left for Vpower promo and on my way to work, i knew its no point arguing and waste my time on this kind of ppl. Really made my day and just wanted to vent it out. Thanks for reading.
  16. Very happy to see the toa payoh wheat baumkuchen is now sold at petrol station. Bought a packet to have my first try. Of this local brand. KNN nothing special...just like Kuay Lapis. Can't taste the healthier wheat properties. That small piece cost $2.50. Wow so expensive. Will not buy it anymore. Not worth it. Try it only because the office girls was raving about going to toa payoh each time to buy, and it taste supreme. One pregnant colleague even bragged her hubby everyweek buy one loaf for satisfying her pregnancy urge! I can get cheaper and more tasty Japanese baumkuchen ones at NTUC finest. Or might as well eat fresher bangawan kuey lapis, cheaper and nicer.
  17. Hi Brothers, Can anyone share when driving on N-S highway, exit skudai heading to woodlands checkpoint, is there any ESSO station that is along the way and near Checkpoint. Prefreably along the way and not having to detour and near checkpoint. If got GPS coordinates better.
  18. Today went pump some petrol at Shell station Seng Kang, after I stopped beside the nozzle, spotted 2 chio bu in race queen attire (white short tights with high boots) urging me to pump V-power. Telling me V-power very good, clean my engine, burn fast, yadda yadda, got free sunshade... I just say... "No Thanks."
  19. When i was in perth few months ago, rented a car and on the day back to airport, i need to return with the car cleaned, if not they can charge a high fee for the service. On the way to the airport, we saw a car wash station and i drove in. There were 4 washing bay, 3 manual and 1 auto, i forgot the charges think was about $7 for manual and $12 for auto (all using coin operated and the lots are separate by side wall and they are big). The auto was the same as what we had in the petrol station in the past, the manual was fun, it comes with the jetspray, soap, anything you need to wash a car. After that you can proceed to the vacuum, charge $3 and the vacuum is quite powerful and time is long enough to complete the whole car. The station is usually OMO mainly to change coin. I wonder why there is no such thing in Singapore. (i know FT is cheaper to do the job and it is HAND WASH)
  20. Hoping to reach people who might have experienced my problem yesterday. I pumped petrol yesterday morning 30 May, topping up with octane 98 fuel at a certain petrol station in Northeastern part of S'pore. Car engine has been working perfectly with no issue whatsover before and was serviced 2 weeks before. Car engine vibrated violently and stalled after leaving petrol station less than 1 km. Car is stranded in the middle of the road and could not move. Had the car towed to agent's workshop as my car is just over 1 1/2 yrs old. By afternoon, it was discovered that my petrol tank contained 'a lot of water' with the petrol in the tank. Reported to petroleum company yesterday evening. They conducted an investigation by taking samples from the storage tank of said petrol station but reported to me and the workshop this afternoon that intitial study done and said 'nothing wrong with the petrol'. I insisted that they send somebody down to my workshop and look at the car's damage and evidence. And I should think there should be more victims out there because that is a popular petrol station in a middle class housing estate, which has undergone massive renovation works for weeks and just reopened for business yesterday 30 May. If any driver reading this thread, has similar experience with engine stalling soon after pumping petrol yesterday, please PM me to verify whether we had top-ups at the same petrol station. No jokes or unsavoury comments please. Thank you.
  21. Article from STOMP...So many bottles in the boot as seen from the pic...can't imagine if she jam brake and another car behind hits her..."BOOM"!!! http://singaporeseen.stomp.com.sg/stomp/sg...s_and_says.html
  22. Ok, going off in a matter of 5 minutes. What I wish to see tonight is CST and LTK winning the 2 GRCs. CST truly deserve to be in and LTK has fielded a credible team. If VW wins over VB it would even be better! I am very disappointed with and lost faith in VB in recent times. I wonder if it would be possible for the incumbent to get lower than 65%?
  23. What is the polling station "business hours" on 7 May?? Couldn't find the infor on http://www.elections.gov.sg/ website?
  24. Hi, Does anyone know the exact GPS coordinates of the shell station just after coming out from the new JB custom? There are a few found in the google earth, but one thing for sure that the google earth is not updated with the complicated new roads in the new JB custom. Very much appreciated. Regards!
  25. Drove passed Sengkang Shell station this morning about 7:45am. Saw a long queue of cars going to the Shell. Did I miss out anything? Pump price drop?
