  2. Luca di Montezemolo has indicated that Felipe Massa is on the road to having his Ferrari deal extended beyond December. The 29-year-old Brazilian has driven for the famous team since 2006, alongside highly rated teammates including Michael Schumacher and Kimi Raikkonen. But so far in 2010, Massa has struggled with the F10 car, while team president Montezemolo told La Gazzetta dello Sport that he is "very happy" with new long-term recruit Fernando Alonso. Amid rumours Ferrari is considering replacing Massa with Robert Kubica or Mark Webber, Gazzetta correspondent Pino Allievi asked Montezemolo what Massa needs to do in order to keep his seat. He answered: "Continue as before, with the same spirit, thinking of his interests but also those of the team." Source: GMM
  3. i got npnt but take my word today i was at alps when i walked past a class 4 lorry. what i saw next was astonishing the front tires were so bald that there were no grooves left whatsover, and the driver still drives the thing !, apart from his employer's cost saving measures dont he value his own life ? lta should really step in, conduct random spot checks and fine the companies. never in my life have i seen smooth tyres, and i mean smooth like baby backside.

  5. Hi all, Have not stayed in these 2 places before, though I've made a day trip to Kukup years ago. For Kukup, I would not have the comofrt of seeing the car within sight, though my GSM anti-theft system would alert me for intrusion. I once left my car at the jetty for 2 days when I visited the Pulau Jerejak Resort in Penang. Ok, now seafood wise, which is better? Regards,
  6. Which area in Singapore is the best to stay in? You can state your own reasons like air quality, amenities, proximity to city, "class" and so on. Preferably, we should talk about places within reach of ordinary citizens.

  8. I bought a new steering wheel and called my mechanic to book a time to install, he told me that because my existing steering wheel has an airbag and the new one doesn't, the airbag light will stay on if I fix on the new one. Anyone knows how to get around this issue? I'm hoping to do something so that the airbag light will not come on.
  9. Luca Badoer and Marc Gene will remain test drivers at Ferrari in 2010, it emerged on the day of the launch of the Italian team's 2010 car. The Italian and the Spaniard were both present as the wraps came off the F10 at Maranello, despite Giancarlo Fisichella being presented as the full time reserve driver. "Giancarlo will be our third driver, but Marc and Luca complete our driver lineup," said team boss Stefano Domenicali. Ferrari said a record three million viewers watched the launch event live on its official website, which caused it to "freeze for a couple of seconds in several moments". Meanwhile, the marque's president Luca di Montezemolo said it was he who convinced Michael Schumacher to return to the F1 grid. The Italian said that if three car entries were allowed, the German would now "be promoting not red Mercedes but red Ferraris". Montezemolo also raised the possibility of Valentino Rossi racing a Ferrari in 2011

  17. They want High Court to order ICA to issue work and study passes By K. C. Vijayan, Law Correspondent TWO China nationals want the High Court to order the immigration authorities to issue them with passes to work and study here. The moves by the two women, MsZhang Yan, 27, and Ms Xue Jin Zhou, 22, are believed to be the first time foreigners wanting to get such passes to stay in Singapore have gone to the High Court seeking a judicial review. The two women are essentially asking the courts to see if the decision-making process by the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) to refuse to support their applications was flawed. The crux of their cases is whether adverse records, if any, which could have influenced the ICA's decisions against them, were valid reasons. Shanghai-based Ms Zhang came here on a student pass last May to do business studies at a private school, but was arrested by the police about three months later at a KTV lounge. She was suspected of working illegally as a lounge hostess but after the police investigation ended, no further action was taken against her. Instead, her student pass was cancelled by the ICA. She claims it was a case of mistaken identity and said she was at the lounge with a friend. She is now fighting to remain here and for her student pass to be be reinstated. Separately, Ms Xue, who is from Heilongjiang province in northern China, secured a job here as a sales executive with a construction firm on a two-year contract. Last November, she obtained in-principle approval to take up the job here but the work pass was not issued apparently following ICA checks. It is understood that she had previously studied English here at a private school on a student pass, but on one of her return trips from China, she had entered Singapore on an expired social visit pass. But she was granted an extension to stay and Ms Xue believes there is nothing adverse against her to date to block her work permit application. Both women are represented by lawyer Leonard Loo. A closed-door session was held last week in the High Court before Justice Judith Prakash, who adjourned the case to next month for further arguments to be heard. Both Ms Zhang and Ms Xue are seeking to have anything adverse in their records removed and their pass status restored, according to court papers filed. Lawyer Amolat Singh noted that it is more common for those in such disputes to appeal to the authorities directly, and the matter rests there whatever the outcome. He recalled two cases where he appealed to the ICA on behalf of two China nationals who stood to have their passes revoked for breaching the conditions. One was unsuccessful and her student pass was revoked when she was found to be working as a lounge hostess. But the other, whose child studied here, was allowed to remain after her explanations were verified, Mr Singh said. She had been arrested in a raid at a hotel but it was later determined that she was there with a local man whom she was in a long-standing relationship with. Mr Singh said the courts do not have powers to intervene with the administrative decision itself but the courts can review the procedure to see if the applicant has been given a fair hearing. CASE 1 Who: Ms Zhang Yan, 27 Past record: Had a student pass to study at a private school here but was arrested some months later by the police at a KTV lounge. She was suspected of working illegally as a lounge hostess. What she claims: That it was a case of mistaken identity and that she was at the lounge with a friend. The police did not take further action against her although her student pass was revoked. # CASE 2 Who: Ms Xue Jin Zhou, 22 Past record: Had obtained in-principle approval to take up a job here as a sales executive with a construction firm. But the work pass was apparently not issued after ICA checks. She had been a private student here before, but on one of her return trips here from China, she had entered Singapore on an expired social visit pass. What she claims: That there is nothing adverse against her to block her application to get a pass to work here.

  19. SINGAPORE, June 17, 2008 (AFP) - Finnish telecom giant Nokia has launched two new email-capable handsets for business users and vowed to defend its position as the world's leading mobile phone maker. Nokia said the E71 and E66 were pre-loaded with Microsoft's popular email programme and would cater to business professionals who wanted easy and instant access to their messages. "With the E series, we want to serve people who are passionate about their work," said Chris Carr, Nokia's vice president for regional sales, at a launch in Singapore late Monday. The two phones would be available in July and support email accounts from key Internet service providers such Yahoo! and Google's Gmail, the firm said. It said there were an estimated 1.5 billion email users globally and that there were set to be four billion mobile users by the end of 2009. "We have grown our share with the broadest portfolio of devices in the industry... Nokia remains the undisputed leader and it is a leadership mantle we will not relinquish," Carr said. The business mobile sector is currently dominated by Canada's Research in Motion, maker of the BlackBerry smart phone combining a mobile phone and personal digital assistant (PDA). The BlackBerry allows users to browse the Internet, use e-mail and make calls and has proven a big hit with business executives worldwide. Apple is also taking aim at the corporate market with the launch of its touch-screen-activated 3G iPhone, which will come with faster Internet access and more features for business users than its initial iPhone. South Korea's Samsung on Monday unveiled its latest smart phone, a touch-screen model to be commercially launched in Southeast Asia this week. The Samsung and Nokia launches came on the eve of CommunicAsia. The event is billed as the region's leading information and communications technology conference and exhibition and began Tuesday in Singapore. R U Interested ? [rolleyes]

  22. Home > Breaking News > Singapore > Story Durai out of jail By Judith Tan T.T. DURAI was released from jail on Monday morning after serving two-thirds of his three-month sentence for using a fake invoice to cheat the charity into paying $20,000 to an interior designer friend. He walked out of the Queenstown Remand Prison at 10.43 am, dressed in a white shirt and greyish dark pants. He seemed to have lost quite a bit of weight and his hair has turned a greyish white. He was greeted by his son and was quickly whisked away by a burly man into a waiting Hyundai Tucson car. Durai, 59, started his jail term on June 10, and was released after he was given a one-third remission of his sentence, most probably for 'good behaviour'. His journey to jail dated to July 2005 when a defamation suit he lost led to inquiries into the affairs of Singapore's biggest charity. Durai and the NKF board resigned en masse, and various government agencies went over the charity's books with a fine tooth comb. He lost a civil suit filed by the NKF's new leadership in February last year, and was ordered to pay $4 million back in damages. He has paid $1.4 million so far. Criminal charges were brought against him in 2006. His appeal against his conviction and sentence was turned down. http://www.straitstimes.com/Breaking%2BNew...ory_266840.html fwah.... Queenstown really transform a person. He looks like 70+ then 59.

  24. Finance Ministry says 3/4 tank rule for cars going into M'sia to stay By Imelda Saad, Channel NewsAsia | Posted: 09 June 2008 1947 hrs Photos 1 of 1 Cars wait in line to refill their fuel tanks at a gas station in Kuala Lumpur before the price hike SINGAPORE: Malaysia has long been a popular destination for Singaporean motorists seeking to take advantage of the lower ringgit and heavily subsidised petrol. So the recent fuel price hike in Malaysia has prompted some Singaporean motorists to call for the lifting of the three-quarter tank rule imposed on Singapore vehicles crossing into Malaysia. The ruling, which has been in place since 1991, requires all north-bound motorists to leave Singapore with petrol tanks at least three-quarters full. Responding to queries from Channel NewsAsia, Singapore's Finance Ministry said authorities are monitoring the situation. But at this point, the ministry said there are no plans to review the three-quarter tank rule. It added the rule is part of Singapore's policy to moderate vehicle usage and reduce traffic congestion. Still motorists Channel NewsAsia spoke with said there's not much to be saved given that petrol prices in Malaysia have gone up by more than 40 per cent. Many want the Singapore government to do away with the three-quarter tank rule completely, citing escalating local fuel prices. One motorist said: "At the end of the day motorists should have a choice. As it is we are paying very high car prices, very high road tax, COE and ERP so why not? Give us an option to save money." - CNA/vm
