  1. In between Honda CRV, toyota RAV4 , Mit Airtrek turbo and subaru forester which would you pick. So far, I only test drive Forester 2.0XT turbo only, generally quite like the car on performance, handling and comfort level, but lack of information on reliability, maintenance cost. In term of look, CRV more modern look . thanks
  2. From a distance, I thought I saw a Subaru Outback with Civil Defence painted on it. Quite happening, ya!
  3. Dear Subaru owners, I met my SE yesterday to complain about my Subaru's gear problem - unable to smoothly engage my reverse all the time despite of stopping totally, waiting 3-5 sec, engaging 3rd/5th gear (is 3 & 5 the magic numbers?) before engaging reverse gear despite of highlighting the matter to MI. MI supposedly to have solved the problem by replacing the disc plates but when I brought my car to my own mechanic, the gear box is brand new/untouched. I wonder how MI managed to change the disc plates without opening the whole gearbox? SE kept saying this few sentences: 1) I have other customers who do not have this gear problem. I wonder how many? That is why I started this poll. 2) The gear mechanism cannot synchronize properly & Subaru is unable to solve the problem (So now SE acknowledges there is a problem!) I hope you will kindly respond to this poll because I would like to know how many of you suffer from this problem.
  4. Noticed this nice Subaru at my car park, so took some pics... Sorry if the car is yours tho...

  7. I'm new here. Heard about AMSOIL and MCF from SubaruClusbSg. Interested in trying AMSOIL for my new TS, but dunno which to get, *w30 or *w40? Which should I get? Would *w30, lead to a noisy engine? Would it protect the engine sufficiently? Do normal city driving and weekly trips to KL but nothing above 120kmh. Need your input fast as service is coming up soon. TIA
  8. Hi all... I planning to get a car soon.. Quite interested in subaru. Have been reading and searching thro the post for subaru TS but not much I can find. I looking for a 2nd hand Subaru TS.. say about 3-4 yrs old... So far the prices have been in the range of 48000 - 55000. Just wondering roughly wat is a acceptable price.. Dun want to kena chop by dealers.. Thanks!
  9. Hiya people... I am new to this forum and had spent the better part of the weekend in this forum reading up about cars, reason being I am going to buy my first car. Hoping to place my booking by this week... Anyway, was wondering in what ways can I soup-up the performance of the Subaru 1.6TS in terms of power output and driving feel? For example, fitting a after-market turbo-charger for power output and using low-profile rims/tyres + stiffening suspension for improved driveability? BTW...whats the max wheel-size that a Subaru 1.6TS can accept. Was hoping to fit a 17" rim thats lighter than stock to offset FC cos I would like to increase width to 205. What ratio would not drastically affect speedo reading? Thank you people... :) PS. Is it too "beng"-ish to add the STI high-mount spoiler onto a 1.6TS? Currently, I have already requested for a front scoop to be added as one of my friend also has the same car in the same colour (black) although his is an MY04 whilst mine is a MY05... I like the spoiler but will that make me too much of a "wannabe"? I know 95 horses will never beat 225 horses but I am just talking about aesthetics...
  10. How u guys feel abt the Subaru Impreza 1.6TS? There isn't much topics on it.
  11. Wanting to get a new car ... wanna sporty looks, good fc, looks cool and good buy. Thank u. Please advise! 1) Mit Lancer - Now manual going at $67K + ... cheap with sporty looks,L/S etc. Is the engine reliable? 2) Toyota Vios - DOHC, 16 valves, looks quite sporty, $63K + auto... 3) Subaru TS 1.6 - Like the sporty looks, include wrx 16" sport rims, body kit, $76K + manual, $78K + auto .. thought of getting but afraid of maintenance problems cos not many people driving subaru on road so spare parts are hard to get. 4) Honda Civic - Vtec engine $78K + auto, nice leather seats, interior looks cool. A bit not value for money. Down payment - $15K to $20K Monthly installment - $600 to $800 Which bank is better for financing. Mostly having 2.2% interest rate Only one giving 1.9% If 7 and 10 yeas payment are both 1.9% which to go for? What kind of freebies to ask for - L/S, Tint, body kits ??? Thank you
  12. me own a 98 subaru impreza!!! care to talk more abt it.
  13. Back to the future By Bob Jennings The Sydney Morning Herald Wednesday July 7 2004 The next generation Subaru WRX will return the car to its roots: small, agile and quick. The startled look of the "goggle-eyed" Subaru Impreza is unlikely to be seen again -- and the new model due in 2006 will revive the ingredients that made the original a cult car. Subaru has learnt its lesson from the design faux pas it made with the daring 2000 model (pictured), judging by the interest the designer of the next generation Impreza has in the opinion of Australian buyers. Hiroshi Mori, project general manager of Subaru's product planning division, made a discreet visit to Australia recently for the Rally of Canberra. He was there as a guest of Subaru, which sponsored the rally, but his main interest was catching up with local owners at the Subaru WRX Festival (which was on at the same time), who expressed their opinions in no uncertain terms. Australia is Subaru's third-biggest market outside Japan and the US, and Subaru is aware that with successive generations of the Impreza it has become larger, heavier and, in some respects, slower. Potential repeat buyers of the new model have suggested that this is not what they are seeking. Significantly, Mori says previous conservatism and adverse reaction to the controversial "bug-eyed" Impreza had forced a major design rethink and that styling is playing a more important role in the development of the next model Subaru Impreza. "In the past, performance was a priority. Safety and then design were next," Mori says. "But at the time of the introduction of the new Liberty, we realised that design is as important as performance." Subaru is well into the design process of the next generation Impreza, which is due to be introduced in late 2006, and the exterior styling should be signed off before the end of the year. In Canberra, Mori wanted to get a feel for what WRX fans desired from the next Impreza in terms of styling, packaging and performance, although the hard points of these aspects of the vehicle are well on to the way to being locked in. Mori says the next generation Impreza -- and the flagship turbo WRX -- will be "an aggressive" car. Drive's correspondent in Japan, Peter Lyon, reports there are some design staff at Subaru's headquarters who feel the four-door boxy shape is the path Subaru should be going down but they have been overruled by those who believe the next Impreza should be smaller, lighter and more stylish, along the lines of the World Rally Championship contenders such as the Citroen Xsara and Peugeot 307 CC. There are also suggestions in Japan that there will be a smaller, lighter, more compact three-door hatch-like Impreza in the range when it surfaces and the new model will boast performance equal to, if not better, than the current model. Joining the Impreza line-up further into its model life, in five to six years, is expected to be a hybrid-powered version which will link the conventional horizontally opposed four-cylinder engine with an electric motor. When the "goggled-eyed" WRX was released in 2000, the then designer, Mamoru Ishii, rebutted criticism of the car's bold styling and dismissed the original Impreza as boring. When spy photos of the 2000 model appeared, enthusiasts likened the look of the car to everything from a Toyota Corolla to a frightened deer. Many owners on internet chat sites said they would not buy the new model because it had lost its macho image. "I knew there would be negative feeling," Ishii told Drive in September 2000. "The Japanese reports are 50 percent positive and 50 percent negative. "We wanted to give the car some presence. We wanted strong styling and strong character. I will concede that it is dangerous to go too strong and have everybody hate it but I don't think we have crossed that line." Ishii said Europe was the biggest design influence. "We've tried to capture [the essence of] Mercedes, Porsche and Jaguar," he said.

  17. Subaru RSK B4 Hi All. Any comments about the above car? * Market-going depreciation * Value for $$ * Go consider another car instead..? * Power specs / Fuel consumption / AWD / Handling * Fastest Automatic u can find with that kindda moola * Reviews indicate a 'black hole' gap between engaging the small and big turbines * Does it come with rear wiper, xenon lamps, sunroof?
  18. Any comments on the WRX (non STi-version)? At slightly less than 110K, seems like a pretty good buy..... 0-100km/h should be below 6s rite? It's 2l turbo-charged somemore...... dun have to mod.... already powerful enough to beat most cars on the road..... what do you all think? a bit gian gian.... but must calculate affordability...another car is Ignis Sports..... but no turbo.
  19. anyone here? drives a subaru
  20. Hi all, Thought I'll share this short review with all for a couple of days of driving a rental Mazda 6 2.3L vs prev-model Subaru Legacy Wagon (OUTBACK) 2.5L (Note: Not in Singapore). Mazda6 As a passenger: - The car is pretty quiet and spacious. - Engine noise is pretty low. - However, being a passenger, I start to notice the plastic used on the dash was of pretty low quality - The centre console (gear box area) was heavily scratched during to placing items there (poor quality). As a driver: - Though 2.3L, the low end pickup wasn't actually very good. Power comes in at 2500rpm and the surge then was pretty good. (Low end worst than my 2.0L, should start appreciating it) - Can't imagine the 2.0L will be worst. - Road noise and engine noise was very obvious. - Like the dash and design but not the quality - Compliment must be given to the brake. Very solid feel ! - Car feel light - Still didn't experience the exceptionally good handling due to poor weather. Subaru Legacy 2.5L Outback/Wagon AWD As a driver: - With 2.5L AWD, the car is even more powerless than the 2.3L Mazda 6 ! Power on come in after 3000rpm. Gotta really rev hard - Feel sturdy ... guess the weight and AWD. - Feature packed, low end model, but include nice fog lights, heated seats and lots of many other features. - Noisy .. but well .. didn't expect it to be quiet anyway (as compared to the Mazda6) Not as a passenger yet. Given a choice, I would keep the Mazda 6 as rental car for it's sleek look. But the Subaru Legacy Outback gave a very safe feeling instead. Snowing/Hailing ... so better stick to the Legacy Outback P.S: Sorry, it might not been a fair comparison, but just thought of sharing these after experiencing them :-)
  21. Anybody have any idea where can I get spoiler like those for Subaru cos I can find one for my Spectra. Which website to go and see the one I have in mind? Anyone have any idea how much it cost?
  22. Last Tuesday, I just sent my car to the spray painting workshop for touch up so i flipped through the papers to look for a budget car which can lasts me for 3 days. Finally I found a 2001 Subaru Impreza 1.6 (bugeye model) at only $80 per day n only requires me to put a deposit of $100. They can even send the vehicle to you wherever you are n collect from you at your doorsteps with no extra charge. Sounds tempting isn't it? So I called and reserved one within one hour, the navy blue Subaru Impreza was at my doorsteps. The car was cool with fog lights and even a sunshade with the word Subaru sticked on it. It even comes with a spoiler and nobody can tell it was a rented car. Afta signing the agreement, I drove out for a spin. The pick up was good and the cornering was steady. The next night, I drove out with my friends and since at that time, it was already 3 plus, i decided to test the top speed. So i rammed hard on the accelerator and the car went charging. However when the speed was closed to 150km/h, the acceleration began to slow down n the moment, it hit 150km/h, it stay put there. What a let down! I was still thinking to get a Subaru Impreza after my car was scraped but I guessed I have to change my mind. Is there a speed cut done to the car? I don't know. What about you guys?
