  1. Dear all I'm having a terrible week in terms of vehicle related fines and I hope to seek some advice. The 1st apparently occurred in march, and I only received the fine notice from lta this week. Its stated that "no cash card in IU while driving past bencoolen gantry". The thing is, I have never removed my cashcard, not even when I'm not in the car, against the advices from friends or relatives for fear or theft. I believe its the IU that's faulty as lately, even multi storey carparks have issues reading my cash card. Its not the cash card problem as I have tested another cash card, and I can only get it to read after inserting, removing, and then inserting again after a few times. I have drafted a letter of appeal, stating that the IU is faulty, and hoping for a waiver, and an inspection of the IU. Will this work? The 2nd one just happened 3 hours ago. I parked at my friend's hdb block, the type where there are parking lots just next to the flats. Furthermore, its a white lot. I know I would stay for a while, so I carefully tore the coupon, 2345, at 5/5/2010, and the next one, 0015, at 6/5/2010. The simply "observant" warden gave me a ticket, saying the offence occurred at 0018. Apparently, just 3 minutes after the next coupon is supposed to start, not expire. I have two people to back me up, my girlfriend and my friend who stays there, in case they say that I tore the coupon only after receiving the fine, which is not the case. Do you think I will have success against these 2 cases? The first being the IU being terrible and faulty, and the 2nd, pure negligence by the warden as my ticket clearly stated 0015 starting time, and the summon itself saying the offence occurred at 0018?

  4. http://www.todayonline.com/Voices/EDC09082...ers-accountable? Letter from Michelle Ho 05:10 AM Aug 20, 2009 TODAYonline A traffic summon I recently received has left me questioning the power with which police officers are able to issue such charges. On July 11 at 4 pm, I was pulled over by two traffic police (TP) officers on the AYE who told me I had caused the vehicle behind me to slow down while I switched lanes. The officers did not issue anything in writing but said I would be penalized with three demerit points-my first ones in almost four years of driving-- and a fine of $120. I was told to wait for the summon in mail. I received the notice a week later and was shocked to read that the officer had -- in my opinion-- grossly overstated my offences. Contrary to what was earlier said, the officers also doubled the demerit points penalty and increased the fine to $150. The charge itself was already questionable. On that occasion, I was driving within the speed limit of the expressway, had signalled prior to changing lanes and had ascertained that vehicles were at a safe distance behind before I switched lanes. In no event did I cause any driver to "apply sudden brakes in order to avoid a collision", as the summon had so dramatically described. Admittedly, the validity of the charge boils down to a case of "my word against his". But the officers certainly did their credibility no favours by issuing in written form a much more severe penalty than they had indicated verbally. How can the officers tell me one thing but write up a completely different one? I sent in an appeal and was told a month later that the matter had been reviewed and the charge still stands. No explanation was given. I find this apparent lack of accountability disturbing. In the first place, a proper summons form, instead of hand-written notes, should have been used to record the offences. The summons should state the offence committed and accompanying penalties, and be signed by both the officer and driver at the time of the incident. Notice of offences should also include names of issuing officers, since there is little reason for them to operate behind an anonymous veil. Lastly, the authorities should at least explain their reasons for rejecting an appeal instead of just leaving the accused feeling a sense of injustice. Such measures could impede the TP's efficiency that has for the large part served our nation so well. But surely, it is the lesser evil compared to the apparent free rein with which an officer could otherwise wield in issuing summons. Are police officers infallible, incapable of human error or always beyond reproach? Why is there no transparency or system of checks of balances that can hold the officers in question responsible and accountable for their actions or subject their potential wrongdoings to scrutiny? Such a system opens doors for inconsistencies by which the law is enforced upon, and as such, can cause government agencies to lose credibility.
  5. Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia - Malaysian motorists who have been slapped with traffic summonses will get a partial reprieve from Tuesday: the compound fines for these offences will be halved, said the police. But those facing serious offences will not be spared, said Federal traffic chief Senior Asst Comm II Datuk Hamza Taib. He said the move was to ease the burden on the lower income group after the recent price hike in petroleum and food items. The 50 per cent discount applies only to those who get on-the-spot summons and they must pay up within 30 days. 'Offenders who have yet to pay their summons and have not received letters summoning them to court are eligible for a 30 per discount,' he told reporters on Monday at the Traffic Police Headquarters, Bukit Aman. 'Those who have received the court summons are not eligible for any discount.' Traffic offenders receiving their summons via the post are eligible for a 30 per cent discount regardless of when it was issued. He said the discount offer was ongoing and no deadline had been set. Asked if the discounts would encourage motorists to flout traffic laws, he said police were confident the gesture would spur them to learn from their mistakes and not repeat them. 'Even before this, the rich might not think much of paying a RM300 (S$124.71) fine. Our focus is to try and ease the burden on the lower- and middle-class group,' he said. He said those issued summonses during Ops Sikap, for jumping the red light, for accidents as well as those issued arrest warrants were not eligible for a discount. SAC Hamza said he was confident that the new incentive could help improve the summons payment rate, recorded at 70 per cent at the end of last year. He added that about 12,000 traffic summonses for various offences were issued every day nationwide. My Garmen Sg Garmen
  6. June 27, 2008 Illegal rally: 18 getting summons By Jeremy Au Yong EIGHTEEN people are being summoned to court for their involvement in an illegal assembly outside Parliament House earlier this year and for taking part in a subsequent march. Several among the group ? who include activists, Singapore Democratic Party (SDP) members and supporters ? have already received letters stating the charges they face and asking them to turn up in court on July 11. They each face two charges: For being part of an illegal assembly; and for participating in an illegal procession. Both are offences under the Miscellaneous Offences (Public Order and Nuisance) Act and carry fines of up to $1,000 upon conviction. The offences allegedly took place on March 15, when the group held an assembly outside Parliament House to express their anger over inflation and rising consumer prices. The gathering was organised by the SDP to mark World Consumer Rights Day. As part of their assembly, the group placed items of food items such as rice, sugar and biscuits on the ground. The organisers went ahead with the assembly despite having their application rejected by the police, who cited security concerns. http://www.straitstimes.com/Latest%2BNews/...32.html?vgnmr=1 --------- sure, jail them. i wonder how many more pple can the prison hold when price continue to spiral ? debunked

  8. http://singaporeseen.stomp.com.sg/photo/getFullSizePhoto.do?id=23090 STOMPer Sharlene wonders why this jacked-up Land Rover, that has been parking at an HDB carpark in Commonwealth for months, has not been issued with summons. "There are no parking tickets or an RFID disc on the car. Not sure if this is a foreign licence plate also," she says. The STOMPer adds: "Maybe because it has been jacked up, so the parking attendant can't reach to put any summon tickets? "Or is it because the tyres do not touch the ground, it is not considered as 'parked'?" The STOMPer says the Land Rover is depriving other vehicles of parking space. http://singaporeseen.stomp.com.sg/singapor...nt.jsp?id=24429
