  1. Here in Singapore, we have plenty of automotive services such as valet parking and mobile car cleaning/detailing, among others. However, being convenient services as they may be, it seems that you really have to be very careful when using this kind of local services. Don't let yourself be caught off-guard because of the convenience. Well, you can't guarantee that your car will always be taken care of by someone experienced for example, when you feel like leaving the nuisance of finding a parking space to the valet guys or when you want your car to be cleaned/detailed. In fact, even if the guy at your service is experienced, there's still no guarantee that things won't go wrong. Recently, in Portsmouth, U.K., a customer's car was wrecked by a mobile car cleaner and, mind you, it was a Ferrari 458 Italia! Ironically, it wasn't the first time the customer used the cleaner's service. Well, the wet road on that day might be partially responsible for the crash. However, I wonder if the cleaner was trying to 'air dry' the car by going for a joyride around the corner and subsequently crashing it. Well, just so you know, it isn't a hard thing at all to lose traction of your car, especially if it's a supercar, coupled with the wet surface which is slippery. Perhaps the traction control of the red Ferrari was somehow switched off, too, at that time. Well, having had to suffer from such a super expensive incident, I'm not too sure if the customer will use the service of the mobile car cleaner in question ever again. And it seems that there are times when we need to use our own hands if we want something done right.
  2. Race Driver: Grid is a video game by Codemasters - the same developers of the recent slew of F1 games and Dirt rally car racing series. The sequel, Grid 2, is an upcoming video game by the same developers to be released in a couple of days on PS3, Xbox 360 and Windows OS. Most video games like God of War, Halo and Call of Duty, among others, usually retail a limited, exclusive or collectors packaging. They often contain a few value add items like DLC, in game character skins, maps, weapons or in the case of Call of Duty - you get night vision goggles or remote controlled 'surveillance vehicle'. As part of the new game, the marketing team for Codemasters have unveiled a new Grid 2: Mono Edition and with it you get the game (obviously), a PlayStation 3 and an actual 273km/h capable BAC Mono car - in full Grid 2 livery and full driver race wear for the ultimate racing experience. By the way, did I mention it costs roughly 125,000 of the queens money (S$238,727) ?
  3. 2013 marks the 50th anniversary since McLaren was founded by New Zealander - Bruce McLaren. As part of the celebration, the British carmaker has announced the limited edition '50' 12C in both coupe and spider (convertible) body styles. Only 100 examples will be produced. Developed by McLaren Special Operations, the limited edition 12Cs are available in 3 exclusive colours - Carbon Black, Supernova Silver or McLaren Orange. For the exterior, updates include a re-designed front bumper, black McLaren badge on the hood and carbon fibre trim for the lower section. Unique 19/20-inch ultra-lightweight alloys in Satin Black finish and carbon ceramic brakes round up the exterior revisions. For the cabin, we can find subtle branding for the carbon fibre sill panel and floor mats, and a '50' anniversary plate on the driver's door. The 50 12C will come with a monogrammed car cover and a limited edition car key that resides in a carbon fibre presentation box.
  4. The current generation Lamborghini Aventador already has what it takes to catch the eyes of people from young to old. It is beautiful, aggressive, and ultimately, there's no doubt that it can tempt people to say "I want one!". However, it seems that the Italian automaker won't stop there. A new generation of the supercar, namely the Lamborghini Aventador SV, is likely well underway. With remarkably large brake calipers, lower front fascia for increased aerodynamics, and also a gurney flap for its rear spoiler, this next generation Aventador transforms into an even more aggressive monster than its elder brother already ruling the driveway of the wealthy. It is believed that this Aventador SV will carry an upgraded 6.5-litre V12 engine. That will get the driver going at 100km/h from a standstill in less than 3 seconds
  5. Aston Martin has built a one-off car called the CC100 Speedster Concept, whose styling pays homage to the legendary DBR1 race car that debuted in 1956 and won the 24 Hours of Nurburgring three years in a row. "We wanted to create something that, while celebrating our first 100 years, is also forward looking and gives a glimpse as to our future," said Aston Martin Design Director Marek Reichman. The CC100 Speedster Concept is powered by the company's 6.0-litre V12 engine, mated a six-speed automated manual transmission. The century sprint takes a little over four seconds before hitting an electronically limited top speed of 290km/h. The concept's body and interior is built using carbon fibre. The concept measures about 4,500mm long by 2,000mm wide and weighs less than 1.2tonnes. It has apparently found an owner who forked out between USD770,000 (S$965,965) to USD1,540,000 (S$1,931,930).
  6. Bugatti Veyron It seems that Dubai is one of the richest cities that exist on Planet Earth. Not only is the city pretty, but it's potentially the safest one in this world as well. Well, if you don't really want to buy what I'm saying, you may want to have a look at the fleet of police cars the city has in store instead. Lamborghini Aventador Not so long ago, the Dubai Police Department already secured quite a few supercars such as the Bentley Continental GT, Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG, Lamborghini Aventador, Aston Martin One-77, and the Ferrari FF. Additionally, they also have the Chevrolet Camaro SS. Still, it seems that the local police now think that they shouldn
  7. McLaren P1 The British automaker McLaren has already confirmed that it will soon start development for the successor to the P1 hypercar. However, don't get too excited now, as the company has also mentioned that we aren't likely to see what the successor looks like within the next decade (yes, that's ten years altogether). McLaren P1 The news came along with the news that McLaren's F1 staffs had started carrying out some necessary works in the UK-based automaker's joint effort with the Japanese automaker Honda, seemingly for the sake of the 2015 F1 racing season. It was Greg Levine, the Sales and Marketing Head at McLaren, who shared the news regarding the successor to the P1. McLaren MP4-12C "The only way a car like the P1 works is by being exclusive and having a short product cycle. After that, you have to step back from the market for a few years. These sort of launches can only happen every ten years or so," commented Levine. McLaren MP4-12C Until now, the automaker is about to produce its 375th P1 and - miraculously enough, I would say, considering the very high price tag of US$1.3 million (that is around S$1.6 million) - it has received customers for three quarters of the total units of the P1 to be produced. McLaren MP4-12C Spider Now, judging that Levine mentioned that it will take ten whole years for McLaren to introduce a new hypercar, I'm guessing some of you may be wondering if the company will have nothing to offer in the meantime. Well, in this regard, the British automaker is preparing an entry level model it's probably going to slot under the MP4-12C. The entry level model is dubbed the P13. Unfortunately, there has yet to be any image leaked on the styling cues of the model. Sources inside McLaren are also keeping their lips sealed tightly for the time being. However, it is known that the P13 will more likely lean on the styling cues of the P1 than those of the MP4-12C. According to sources at McLaren, the company's MP4-12C is 'too much about technology and less about beauty' and that the P13 isn't going to suffer from the same fate. Regarding the price of the P13, it seems wise to believe that it will range somewhere around US$200,000 (approximately S$251,000) or less. I think it's safe to assume that the price won't reach US$250,000 (approximately S$314,000), otherwise it may distract the sale of the MP4-12C.
  8. Most of us probably think - at least I do - that luxury cars are perfect. Their brands alone have often reflected how top notch they are. Brands like Ferrari, Porsche, and Maserati (among others) are few good examples. However, believe it or not, that will be so true if, and only if, we are living in a perfect world. Speaking of which, unfortunately, this world is not perfect. This recent event in China just proved it even more so. A pretty rich Chinese man decided to destroy his Maserati Quattroporte on 14th May 2013. Mind you, the car costs 2.6 million Chinese Yuan which is equivalent to approximately S$526,000. The Chinese guy hammered his car in front of the crowd witnessing the Qingdao International Auto Show which started on the aforementioned date. According to the man, he destroyed his car to protest against the Maserati dealer he bought the car from. However, I would say that the event was actually the peak of a problem which started back in 2011, as reported by Car News China. At that time, the owner encountered a problem with his Maserati and so he contacted Maserati China. There was a fault with one of the car parts and, considering the car was still under warranty, the owner should have received a replacement for free. Surprisingly, though, Maserati China decided to charge him for a refurbished used part. Well, I guess the dealer must have thought that it was worth it for the 'repair' although I can say it's actually not worth it. Now, seeing that the owner decided to finally destroy his really expensive car, I believe that the guy is really fed up with the dealer. I, for one, can understand the guy. You see, even for a car priced far below the price of the Maserati Quattroporte, we can get engine swaps free of charge as long as the car is still under warranty. Now that I've witnessed a luxury car with quite a few faults, I guess I'll have to think over several times before deciding to buy one of my own in the future (that's assuming I can afford one, though, haha
  9. Lamborghini has round up its 50th anniversary celebration by unveiling the Egoista concept at a private birthday party that the automaker has thrown for itself. The uniqueness of the Egoista Concept lies in the fact that it is a single seater. The styling of the concept is said to be inspired by an Apache helicopter. This car will be suitable for the well-off who intends to reserve the privilege of supercar ridership to himself. Power comes from a 5.2-litre V10 engine with undisclosed output. However, looking at the output of a similar unit in the Gallardo, it would be safe to assume that the engine would generate over 500bhp. The supercar benefits from an extremely lightweight construction due to heavy use of carbon fibre. To reduce weight further, the cockpit canopy is removable. Hopefully, more details of the car will start coming in with additional photos from different angles. Apache helicopter
  10. When you have what it takes (and by that, I mean the money), there's no need to worry whether or not you will get what you want, even from such a world class automaker as Koenigsegg. At least, this is what happens in China. The Swedish automaker has built a stunning gold-plated Koenigsegg Agera R, and gives it the name Zijin, most likely specifically by request. The car seems to suit its name really well. It's painted with brilliant purple on the outside - a one-off finish which will really catch your eyes - and features gold on the inside. Just for your information, 'Zijin' is a Chinese word meaning 'purple gold'. However, don't be mistaken as not the entire interior is made of gold. The interior components that are gold plated include the centre console, air vent surrounds, steering wheel trim, and also a wide array of knobs and buttons. Well, to be honest with you, even if I had the money, there's no way I would have decorated my hypercar with the precious metal, although the metal did make the car look nice somehow. One problem I would be worried about is the added weight of the vehicle. Nevertheless, this doesn't seem to be a problem whatsoever in this case. To overcome the weight problem of this particularly made-for-Chinese car, Koenigsegg has decided to make use of its 5.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine which is capable of delivering 1040bhp. Check out the images to witness the Koenigsegg Agera R Zijin.
  11. The 2013 Playboy's Playmate of The Year, Raquel Pomplun, has won herself a one year lease of the Jaguar F-Type roadster in addition to a US$100,000 in prize money. The sexy 25-year old siren first appeared on the cover of Playboy's April 2012 Sex & Music issue where she was named the Playmate of the Month.
  12. It's a commonly known fact that London often becomes the destination of choice for millionaires all over the world, especially during summer time. It seems that the millionaires just love the ambient summer temperature in the city. Well, that's besides the fact that most of them seem to love showing off their expensive collection of cars. This seems even more true for millionaires coming from countries with a climate hotter than that in London, just like this fellow millionaire from Dubai. Just like any other person in London, this fellow seemed to be enjoying his time in the capital city of England. However, it was only so true until he tried to get his Ferrari F12 Berlinetta out of a parking lot. Unfortunately for him, he bumped the right rear quarter of his quarter-of-a-million pound vehicle into the wall. But perhaps he didn't think of it as unfortunate, heck, he probably didn't even care - he's a millionaire after all. The Italian prancing horse didn't seem to be visibly damaged in the video (below), though. Watching the video till the end, the guy finally seemed to care about the scratch he might have caused on his car. Near a red light, he decided to get out to check the right rear quarter, the part he bumped into the wall. Honestly, I can say he seemed pissed afterwards. Well, I wonder what was actually on this guy's mind. Not enough with bumping his car - which some of us (including me) may never be able to buy, he went further to run a red light. Did he think he could do just as he wished whenever he got pissed? Alas, he got trapped in the yellow box marked around the junction as a result. Well, watching the video makes me wonder that it may not be suitable to drive a Ferrari F12 Berlinetta around the twisty narrow London streets. The car seems to better suit the rolling landscape and twisting hills in the country where it comes from. For those who still don't know, the Ferrari F12 Berlinetta carries a 6.3-litre V12 engine under its hood. It can produce a total output of 730bhp. That said, this particular model is also one of the most powerful monsters the Maranello-based automaker currently has in store.
  13. Had he been alive, he would have celebrated his 53rd birthday last March. Yet yesterday motorsports enthusiasts and the people of Brazil - or those who remember anyway - rekindled the memories of the best racing driver in the world - Ayrton Senna. 19 years after his death, Ayrton Senna is still remembered for many things including his charity work to his people, but it's his driving attitude and god-like performance on the track that many - including Mika Haikkainen, Lewis Hamilton, Fernando Alonso, David Coultard place him among the best. Including the most successful driver of all time - Michael Schumacher - who won the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix and equaled Senna's 41 victory record in 2000. The three time world championship winner was also responsible in part in the development of the Honda NSX. Ayrton Senna's three championship winning cars were powered by Honda engines and after testing at the Suzuka GP circuit - Senna requested Honda to stiffen the chassis. Senna was given two cars by Honda. The newer one, a black 1993 model, license plate BSS-8888 (the letters meaning Beco - a childhood nickname - Senna Silva and the number 8 is a reference to his first F1 championship in 1988) is still in his family's possession. A team from Hungary's TotalCar Magazine has prepared a special video to honour the late Senna featuring professional touring car driver and WTCC Rookie of the Year 2011, Norbert Michelisz, in a car that the Brazilian helped fine tune - the NSX.
  14. 26-year old Maria Sharapova has signed a three year contract with Porsche whereby she will be involved in the firm's global communications campaign. At last year's Porsche Tennis Grand Prix, she won herself a white 911 Carrera S Cabriolet in addition to the prize money. Maria Sharapova is already the face of Nike, Tag Heuer and now she can add sports cars to her list. Porsche CEO Matthias Mueller called Maria Sharapova an exceptional athlete who combines top performance in her sports with elegance and power. He added that these were precisely the qualities that were embroiled in the brand's sports cars. Maria Sharapova declared that she had the privilege to be associated with some of the best brands in the world, but to be partners with Porsche was an amazing honour. Maria Sharapova is a Russian professional tennis player who, as of 22nd April 2013, is ranked World No. 2 by the Women's Tennis Association.
  15. Recently, Evo magazine pitted the brand new Jaguar F-Type against its arch rival, the Porsche 911 Cabriolet at the Bedford Aerodrome circuit. The review is done by Tiff Needell, who is a British racing driver and television presenter. The F-type in the group test is powered by a 375bhp 3.0-litre supercharged V6. The engine is mated to an eight-speed 'Quickshift' automatic transmission. At the other corner, the Porsche 911 Cabriolet is propelled by a naturally aspirated 3.4-litre flat-six that produces 345bhp. The seven-speed manual transmission sends the power to the real wheels. Although the British car has a horsepower advantage over its German rival, it is significantly heavier by 160kg. So, who is going to come out on top ?
  16. Switzerland motorsport specialists Carrosserie Saurer are no strangers to customised vehicles and have created exceptional examples of automotive styling and engineering. One such example is this 1975 Maserati Merak by Saurer that will be on auction on the 17th May at the Silverstone Auctions hosted International Trophy Sale. Life for this trident badged Italian began like any other Merak, though greater things were destined for this particular model in 1984 at the hands of Swiss-based Saurer. The redesigned bodywork was formed to create what Paul Saurer considered to be his ideal 'Hot Merak' and no doubt the end result exceeded expectations. The bespoke 1975 Maserati has all its original running gear retained and is estimated to be offered at between
  17. Today, media at Sundance London was the first to see the global premiere of 'Desire', the short dramatic film by Jaguar in collaboration with Ridley Scott Associates (RSA). The film stars British actor Damian Lewis, an Emmy and Golden Globe winner, together with Spanish actor Jordi Molla and American actress Shannyn Sossamon were there to grace the event. The short film was shown for the first time at The O2, after the festival's opening press conference, which attracted media from all over the world. The film director Adam Smith, introduced the film and described the project as a real adventure - a story of betrayal, retribution, passion and greed. "Working with Damian, Shannyn and Jordi has genuinely been a privilege. To see actors of that calibre at work and to watch them contribute massively to the development of their own characters really brought them to life, which has all together made this an incredible film to be a part of," added Adam Smith. Caspar Delaney, the Producer of Desire, described the shoot location, Chile's Atacama Desert, as being perfect for the film and claimed it to be one of the most spectacular landscapes and locations in the world. Award-winning singer-songwriter Lana Del Rey penned the title song to the film, entitled
  18. Acura formally debuted its SUV-X design concept at the Shanghai Motor Show - a global concept vehicle for a small SUV that is targeted mainly for the Chinese market. This is the first in Acura's 27-year long history, it has globally introduced a new concept outside of North America. Emotional and sharp styling and driving performance, together with the environmental performance of a small vehicle and excellent utility of an SUV are all fused together at a high level in this vehicle. Acura is planning to begin local production and sales in China of a mass-production model based on this concept vehicle for its market in about the next three years. Sadly no technical details were unveiled. "We are planning to produce the mass-production model of the Acura Concept SUV-X locally in China. With the hope that our Chinese customers will more closely feel the values offered from Acura, we will begin preparing for the start of the local production. In China, where dynamic growth continues, both Acura and Honda will keep up our efforts to enhance products and technologies that will offer new joys of mobility to our customers," said Takanobu Ito, President & CEO of Honda Motor Co., Ltd. On top of the SUV-X design concept, the Chinese market Acura RLX was also announced. The RLX is a luxury flagship sedan which will go on sale in China in June 2013. Excellent manoeuvrability and comfort are pursued through the adoption of a number of advanced technologies including a newly developed 3.5-litre SOHC i-VTEC V6 engine and Precision All-Wheel Steer - the world's first technology to achieve both outstanding turning performance and vehicle stability. The well received next generation NSX concept was also on display which made its debut at the 2013 North American International Auto Show in January.
  19. Italdesign Giugiaro - more commonly known as Italdesign - is a design and engineering company based in Italy and since August 9th (National Day) 2010, Lamborghini acquired 90.1 percent of the shares to the firm - which by extension means it belongs to Volkswagen. Volkswagen and Italdesign go a long way and the design firm has been responsible for the design of several notable Volkswagen vehicles including the first generation Volkswagen Golf (1974), Volkswagen Scirocco (1974) and Volkswagen Passat (1973). Quite recently Italdesign revealed the Parcour crossover that is powered by Lamborghini. It was named after the modern sport of - pioneered by the French group Yamakasi. Parkour focuses on moving around urban obstacles with speed and agility - though basically to me they are modern day, very flexible ninjas. Either way, the Parcour car has a coupe and roadster variant which fuses elements of crossovers, sports cars and the sharp styling expected of a modern Lamborghini. In fact, paint it orange, slap a raging bull logo and christen it with the name of a famous bull - and we have a striking Lamborghini CUV. The coupe and roadster have enough room for two and are powered by a 542bhp 5.2-litre V10 engine lifted from the parent company's Gallardo. The engine is mated to a seven-speed double-clutch automatic transmission that drives all four tyres on 22-inch rims. The concepts measure 4,530mm long, sit 2,070mm wide and stand 1,335mm tall and weigh just 1.5 tonnes. Italdesign believes the Parcour could hit 100km/h in a rather brisk 3.6 seconds before hitting a top speed of 320km/h.
  20. If you're looking for an ideal car for a drag race, we suggest that you take the 2013 Nissan GT-R into consideration. We wouldn't recommend it for nothing, it's even faster than a fighter jet - the Hawker Hunter, in this case! Well, that's true provided the jet doesn't take its wheels off the ground. When you take a look at the specification sheet of the new GT-R from the Japanese automaker, it
  21. Just four days ago, I wrote of the Dubai Police Department adding the Chevrolet Camaro and the million dollar Lamborghini Aventador as a cop 'cruiser' car. Now another set of wheels from another Italian marque joins the Aventador, in its quest to cruise around the affluent city streets to promote the area's image as a mecca for money - The Ferrari FF. The FF is a two-door, four-wheel drive shooting brake which sits four in some of the finest leather offered by the Maranello factory. If memory serves, the FF was an attempt by Ferrari to answer customers' calls for a family cruiser that is suitable for most weather, rain or snow with comfort with adequate boot space for your ski equipment. It measures 4,907mm long, sits 1,953mm wide and stands 1,379mm tall and is powered by a 6.3-litre NA V12 - akin to the F12berlinetta - which produces 651 prancing Italian horses and 683Nm of torque good for a 335km/h top speed.
  22. This guy might own a Ferrari F430, but he clearly does not know how to record a video. Nonetheless, this rather interesting video of a young kid piloting a F430 around a (thankfully) empty neighbourhood in India with an even younger passenger who is probably his brother - has surfaced on the webosphere. As mentioned earlier, the video is really shaky - much worse than the movie Cloverfield, but after watching, I have a couple of questions - Is the father a bad parent for letting his young son drive a Ferrari? Whatever reasons the father has for his actions, I don't reckon it was a wise move to record the video. And even if he decide to, perhaps keeping it personal instead of publicising it would have been better. And aren't you guys surprised the kid actually managed to drive quite well? I mean he can barely see out of the windscreen yet he could control, brake and move over speed humps well. For me, I'm quite on the fence. I am rather surprised the kid didn't crash the car, and controlled the 483bhp car rather well. I mean when I was his age, I could barely drive proper on my PlayStation. Despite this, if the father really wanted to let his son experience the power of Italian exotics he shouldn't have recorded a video to publicise it to the entire world. You know what they say - do what you want, just don't get caught. I wonder what happens when a Ferrari employee watches the video. Maybe they should consider the kid as a young race driver. On a side note, couldn't the kid wear something nicer than that Ben 10 sleeveless tee? He is an Internet star after all.
  23. In a recent episode of Autocar, Steve Sutcliffe pitted the German supercar, the 2013 Audi R8 V10 against the Ducati Diavel. For readers' information, the Diavel is the second cruiser motorcycle from Ducati, an Italian company that designs and manufactures motorcycles. Ducati is owned by Audi. Weighing 234kg with a 162bhp, 1198cc two-cylinder engine, the Diavel has a power-to-weight ratio of 692bhp per tonne. At the other corner, the 5.2-litre, 542bhp R8 has a power-to-weight figure of 340bhp per tonne. Looking at the power-to-weight ratio, it looks like the Audi is at a disadvantage. However, this test takes into consideration both acceleration and deceleration of the two vehicles. Who is going to come out on top?
